- Many of my contributions have involved (and will involve) moving files from English Wikibooks, which has changed its settings to allow local uploads only for fair use files, to Commons. I don't always remember to rename poorly named files at Wikibooks before moving them here and am only about halfway done. See all the "this bot move has been checked" edit summaries in my contributions, which account for many of my 5800+ edits. I have read over Commons:File renaming as well. Thank you. - Not done Our file renaming policy does not permit renames just to change language (we are a multilingual project). Anyone applying for filemover rights should at least be already familiar with file renaming policy. Instead please concentrate on making sure there are as many translations as possible in the information template of each of your uploads. - Thanks for the update. But a lot of images in my regional langugage are spelt incorrectly and I would like to correct them. A few of them needs renaming to English so that other Indian language wikipedias can use them as well. I am well versed in Malayalam, Hindi and Tamil language and I believe there is a lot for me to do in commons in terms of correcting spelling mistakes of files in these languages. - That situation can be quite rare but I just popped it up here in anticipation. Generally most Indian people only understand one Indian language. So for easy identification, like images of people that are only known locally and images of waterfalls which often look similar, it can be convenient if the name is in English. I am not planning to change the entire Indian language files to English names, but as I said, although rare there could be situations when it is required. --Sreejith K (talk) 06:31, 10 December 2010 (UTC)

Since I've been working on categorizations I've found many files, usually those from moved by bot from Japanese Wikipedia, with meaningless or misspelled names. - Requesting Filemover rights, I am an admin on the English Wikipedia and a Reviewer on Commons, I have recently become more active on here and Wikisource, uploading a number of files (though using automated tools, so they don't show under my contributions) and I'm also in the process moving images from English Wikipedia. I'm working on a project of cleaning up files associated with w:Heinrich Cornelius Agrippa, and a lot of files are very poorly named (e.g. File:ANL001.gif is a set of 29 GIFs with similar names - in this case I've nominated them for deletion but if it fails, I would rename them). In addition, the benefit of hindsight has recently shown me that some of my uploads or moves from other projects should have been renamed before the move. Thank you. - I am requesting filemover rights. I sometimes goof the naming when uploading files. Occasionally, I realize the name I've chosen isn't the most appropriate descriptor -- after learning more (e.g. my images labeled "digestion chambers" don't show 'em... but do show a chronic nerve injury). Also, I've seen numerous typos in my little niche (micrographs/human disease). Getting filemover rights would allow me to fix the above things quickly without having to bother someone else. - Requesting filemover and autopatrol permissions. I am an admin on English Wikipedia, and am familiar with naming conventions and how bothersome ambiguous names like DSCNxxxx or IMG_xxxx can be. I look forward to being able to directly fix these if given the permission. - I periodically upload files or move them from local Wikipedias, and do not always remember to correctly rename them, so I would like to save others the trouble of fixing them.
- I have read the policy and understand it (no minor fixes, no translating to English, etc.), and am an experienced editor and image contributor (gallery) at Commons, English Wikipedia, and English Wiktionary, and believe that I would use this responsibly.

- Hello, I would like to request the filemover flag. I've been uploaded tons of files for a couple of years and some of them with names that are not very descriptive and it would be much easier and quicker for me (and for you) to move them on my own instead of marking them for deletion and uploading them again. Sometimes I also upload pictures (flowers, buildings,...) but I am not sure how to categorize them. After a while I learn more about them and could rename them no a more proper name. - Filemover: Requesting this strictly for convenience. I've uploaded a considerable number of images, and misname the files at the rate of about one per upload session, due to typos or photo data accidentally left in. My intention is to use the right to correct these errors, thus not requiring another editor to do it. I did not think it was unclear, but here you go: "Only Commons administrators, file movers and Wikimedia stewards can rename files for now. If you belong to any of the user groups above, and therefore have the 'movefile' right, just use the "move" tab as you would normally do to a regular page." I was recently granted this right on Wikipedia and I found it quite useful to move a lot of my early uploads that had bad titles. - Request for file mover rights. Much of my work on Commons and en:wiki is to do with images. I have uploaded hundreds of images to Commmons and have close to 2,000 edits, primarily in the image filespace. Without actually requesting it, recently I was granted Autopatrol rights as a "trustworthy and experienced" contributor. I have also had around 17,000 edits on en:wiki, with a lot of image work, I have had a long time association with en:WP:FP, and have just been granted File mover rights on English Wikipedia. I am therefore very conversant with image policy. I honestly don't expect I'd be using File mover rights a lot, but I think it's worth having if I need it, as occasionally I come across files that are in obvious need of a rename, and every now and then upload with an error in the filename, which could do with an immediate fix. - I requested a rename a short time ago of File:Congo - Diocesi di Impfondo.png and noticed these requests take some time. I would like to help. I have studied the guidelines, am aware of what is expected and am able to put this into practice (File:958.JPG). Concerning trustworthiness, I'm crat on nl.wikipedia and an OTRS volunteer for commons, en.wikipedia and nl.wikipedia. Concerning my number of edits, I am aware I have only 200-300 edits on Commons. This is mainly because I like writing articles better then working on images, and have written 4000+ articles on nl.wikipedia. I am however awar of guidelines and am seriously interested in helping with requests to move images. I became active on commons mostly because I wanted to answer OTRS requests and most of my admin activity on nl.wikipedia is in answering requests. Answering requests takes knowledge of guidelines and a short effort. This means I can still write my articles while watching the request categories. Thank you. I often upload pictures in bulk and there it's not uncommon that some are named wrong (mostly tippos or Copy-Paste-faults) and it's annoying having to request moving and waiting for the moving to be completed to continue or having to work around so far. - I have been on de and commons since 2006. In some cases my own files wer nemad wrong, in other cases I noticed wrong names in other users' files, e.g. a file containing a mountain is named as a nearby mountain.
At the moment I work at WLM where I will have to work on hundreds of files coming soon by Steschke and Ralf Roletschek whose navigator I was. As a filemover it would be easy for me to correct wrongly written names as this one ("Schloss") as well as wrongly describing names as this one. I have been experienced in renaming on de for years. - I unintentionally made a mess at Category:CLEF 2011 while using a bot. It is a lot easier to name an image once you have it on commons with all the processed meta data at my disposal. I will be making more bot uploads from flickr and other sources in the upcoming days for Earth observation and Microbiology related images and do not want to inconvenience people with the task of renaming images. Also I am planning on helping with Commons:Flickr batch uploading so this tool would be most useful. - Since I contribute on Commons or other Wikis, I allways did a conscientious Wikignome work. On commons, I sorted many files, uploaded some improved ones and some of my own work.
- I've no problem to contribute with English language, a bit more with German and my French is nearly perfect.
- I think no one will say I'm ill-minded but at the opposite rather serious. So if you want me to help renaming files, I'll be your man. I read the Renaming guideline, agree with them and shall apply them in my work-to-be.

- I am hoping that Commons will trust me with the FileMover right. I am currently working through Category:Narrowboats and subcategories, and using my knowledge in that area to recategorise images accordingly (for example, recognising a particular class of narrowboat). Some files, such as File:DSCF1010bosleylock4.JPG need to be renamed to make the title understandable. Some files, such as File:Hard to port - geograph.org.uk - 640552.jpg or File:Watch_this_space-08_-_geograph.org.uk_-_830284.jpg, need to be renamed to a clearer title. In addition, I have stumbled across a few images where a 'butty' is misidentified as a 'motor', or where the Steam narrowboat President is mislabelled as a 'diesel boat'. For those who might not know, I hold CU, OS and admin rights on en-wp, and I work for the UK chapter - although I realise that none of this 'entitles' me to Commons rights, I hope it shows that I am someone that can be trusted. - I'd like to request file move/rename rights as I frequently create military shoulder sleeve insignias and distinctive unit insignia and in doing so I come across images to convert to svg that have non-standard naming structures and/or erroneous or non-obvious names. Currently there are very few users actively trying to make (and keep up) standard naming practices for SSI and DUIs so there's a rather large backlog. It would help considerably if I had this right. At the moment I don't really make full use of the rename tag because I find it cumbersome to remember which files I've tagged and which files have been renamed and which ones haven't. On the odd occasion I have used the tag it's always been actioned, and as far as I recall my request has never been turned down. I have to admit though it's not a right I'll be making frequent use of, but just enough that it's more expedient than using tags for someone else to do. Thank you. - Hi, I need the file mover rights as we in Tamil Wiki community is now conducting a Media contest. By the contest, nearly 3500 files are uploaded so far. As many people new to Wiki are not caring the file name guidelines. So, there are many files wrongly named. It's a big challenge for a user to search a correct file. Since the contest has started, I have requested many file renamings. You people are doing good. But, it took time and before that many files are used in articles too. So, we got requests from users on missing their files. (As they are new) So, the contest needs a file mover. According to my community's suggestion I am requesting the rights. I am an OTRS member and sysop in Tamil Wikipedia. Please set me the file mover rights. - As the lead organiser for the contest, i endorse/support Surya's request. He is an admin in Ta Wiki and a trusted community member. We have been bugging file movers with many move requests in the past few weeks. If one of us had file mover rights, we can take care of the renamings ourselves. - Check the copyright status. Do not move files with questionable copyright status or from questionable sources.
- Follow COM:RENAME. Double check the new name before committing.
- If the file was in use, use move & replace.

Firstly, tropical cyclone tracks sometimes have to be renamed when the cyclone strengthens from a numbered depression to a named storm, as File:ARB02 2011 track.png to File:Keila 2011 track.png. - I would like to request the file mover flag. I am a file mover on enwiki and I am currently going through this list of files requiring a rename. As I am going through the list, I have noticed that there are quite a few files on commons with the same generic camera defined name. I am tagging these images for rename as I find them (example). Quite often I stumble over meaningless filenames (IMG_* and the like) and it would be nice to be able to move them without bothering other users, at least when I know the subject, able to understand the language or read the alphabet. (When in doubt I either leave as is or put a rename suggestion for more experienced user to consider.) - I try to keep Category:Iran and its subcategories as small and neat as possible. Sometimes I encounter some files that have completely meaningless names. I used to place the {{Rename}} template on the image description page but now I think that I'm familiar enough with renaming guidelines and can do it myself. I'm also a license reviewer and contributed about 3,000 edits to commons. I would like to help the community through fulfilling rename requests too. Thank you.
