Round 1 of Picture of the Year 2023 voting is open!
[edit]Dear Wikimedian,
Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2023 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the eighteenth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2023) to produce a single Picture of the Year.
Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.
For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topical categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you may vote for as many images as you like. The top 30 overall and top 5% of most popular images in each category will continue to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just three images to become the Picture of the Year.
Round 1 will end on UTC.
Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee

File:Tems in 2023.jpg
[edit]Hi King of Hearts. Would you mind taking a look at File:Tems in 2023.jpg? A slightly cropped version of the same photo can be found here on Instagram and it seems it was uploaded in July 2023; so, the dates given in the file's description don't mesh with Instagram. There have been several images uploaded for use in en:Tems and pretty much all of them have had questionable licensing or claims of "own work", and this could be another case of that; however, I just want another opinion before proceeding further. Do you think this latest one needs VRT verification? -- Marchjuly (talk) 10:14, 13 October 2024 (UTC)
- I think it makes sense to start a batch DR on all the uploader's uploads, citing the Instagram evidence for documentation purposes. -- King of ♥ ♦ ♣ ♠ 02:41, 14 October 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for taking a look at this. I started Commons:Deletion requests/Uploads by Seano2235. -- Marchjuly (talk) 07:56, 14 October 2024 (UTC)

Bangkok BTS icons and map
[edit]Hi King of Hearts. What you do you think about the licensing of File:Bangkok BRT B12.svg and File:Sukhumvit Line and Silom Line Map.svg? The station icon seems too simple to be eligible for copyright protection even it is the own work of the uploader, but I'm not sure about the map. A number of station icons have been uploaded by this user and their licensing can be tweaked; the map, however, could come from an en:BTS Skytrain official website or be closely based on an official map. Do you think the map should be VRT verified? -- Marchjuly (talk) 02:23, 29 October 2024 (UTC)
NASA FIRMS Deletion Request
[edit]Hello King of Hearts,
Two days ago you closed this NASA FIRMS speedy deletion request, allowing the Deletion Request to continue. I believe I have collected information to conclusively show that this Deletion Request is a misunderstanding. Since you already looked once at these data, I thought I would suggest you to look at them again, here: Commons:Deletion requests/NASA FIRMS. Thanks either way. Review
[edit]I would like to loosen some of my editing restriction which you additionally added, like allows me using some tools like Video2Commons (wish to upload some videos, and I have never misuse this tool) and Flickypedia (a new tool that adopted by the WMF in 2023, which can effectively detected duplicate). Also, I wish to increase the number of images that can upload per day. A1Cafel (talk) 09:20, 15 November 2024 (UTC)
- You said I can use other automated tools, but I still have no access to F2C--A1Cafel (talk) 03:26, 16 November 2024 (UTC)
Update
[edit]Another month passed by, and I think I have no serious problematic uploads over the past two months, so I I wish to increase the number of images that can upload per day. --A1Cafel (talk) 03:01, 16 December 2024 (UTC)
Undeletion request
[edit]Could you please reopen the following deletion request:
The closing administrator deleted the file without responding to any of my arguments, and did not give any justifications for the deletion. That request was open for a grand total of twelve days, which is not enough time for thorough discussion in my opinion. FunnyMath (talk) 20:49, 6 December 2024 (UTC)
- You can appeal at the closing admin's talk page. -- King of ♥ ♦ ♣ ♠ 21:06, 6 December 2024 (UTC)

Question
[edit]Hi. I'd still like an answer to the question that I asked you about. Is there another way to resolve issues other then ANU? The last time I checked a topic ban doesn't mean I forgo the same right be treated with civility and good faith that everyone else on here is entitled to. There's also still the Universal Code of Conduct which from what I understand isn't project specific. So again, what other options do I have to resolve conflicts or deal with other issues now besides ANU? Adamant1 (talk) 23:21, 18 December 2024 (UTC)
