Welcome, Dear Patroller !
[edit]Hi Lokomotiv !
You now have the Patroller right and may call yourself a patroller ! Please take a moment to read the updated Commons:Patrol to learn how Patrolling works and how we use it to fight vandalism.
As you know already, the patrolling functionality is enabled for all edits, not just for new-page creations. This enables us to keep track of, for example, edits made by anonymous users here on Commons.
We could use you help at the Counter Vandalism Unit. For example by patrolling an Anonymous-edits checklist and checking a day-part. There is a short video tutorial which addresses some things you may not know about.
If you have any questions please leave a message on the CVU talkpage or ask for help on IRC in #wikimedia-commons. --Màñü飆¹5 talk 02:12, 10 December 2010 (UTC)

Deleting redirects
[edit]Hi, I noticed that when renaming this file File:Piazza di nouro.jpg, you then proceeded to tag the redirect as a duplicate. This is not the right procedure. Redirects are not created by accident, they are created deliberately and should be retained unless there is a good reason not to. If the file is a newly uploaded and renamed file, then the redirect can be dispensed with. See Commons:File renaming and Commons:Deletion_policy#Duplicates. Thanks :-) --Tony Wills (talk) 04:21, 30 March 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks for the reply :-). Part of the reason we keep redirects is so that people outside of wikimedia (eg on the rest of the internet) who have been using the file can still easily find it. For example if they use it in their publication and want to link back to the source (to fulfill the license requirements for example), their link needs to find the file. Even if it is a very bad name like File:IMG_123.JPG or File:MizSpeltt file PNG.JPG we want a redirect so that their link works. Also consider links from archived pages or in page histories, it is good to be able to find the file being discussed, even if it was renamed. It costs us very little to keep the redirect, and it stops someone uploading another file by that bad name.
- I've placed the table view "here". Thanks. --Dэя-Бøяg 01:37, 22 April 2012 (UTC)

BRT Curitiba
[edit]DeBorg, first, thanks for your help fixing my mistake. Regarding your second correction, in the RIT system, all bus stops use Curitiba's landmark tubes, but technically, a simple bus stop is different from a transfer station. Therefore, I do not think it is appropriate to put them together. At a station local feeders transfer passenger to express buses and other trunk line buses. Isolated tubes are usually located in neighborhoods, stations at the main system axis.--Mariordo (talk) 01:14, 27 November 2012 (UTC)

Picture of the Year 2013 R2 Announcement
[edit]Round 2 of Picture of the Year 2013 is open!
[edit]- ⧼Wikibase-terms/DerBorg⧽: Deutsch, Ελληνικά, English, français, magyar, italiano, македонски, 日本語, русский, svenska
Dear Wikimedians,
Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2013 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the eighth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2013) to produce a single Picture of the Year.
Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.
There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. The top 30 overall and the most popular image in each category have continued to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just one image to become the Picture of the Year.
Round 2 will end on 7 March 2014. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Commons:Picture_of_the_Year/2013/Introduction/en Click here to learn more and vote »]
Thanks,

Proposed category move
[edit]Hi, I've proposed the category move of Category:Train station in Monaco that, for what I've seen on the history, was created by you. I've added some details and links to explain the reasons (the existance of two disused stations: Monte Carlo (rack rw., see file) and Monte Carlo (SNCF), existed along with Monaco-Monte Carlo). Anyway, pardon if the procedure was wrong. Regards. --Dэя-Бøяg 23:44, 26 May 2014 (UTC)
- No problem for me. I don't remember why I created this category for only one station… Regards. Pymouss Let’s talk - 22:37, 27 May 2014 (UTC)
Filemove
[edit]Hi, Please elaborate why you moved this file. --Steinsplitter (talk) 12:34, 14 November 2015 (UTC)
- Ok. Well: an user requested a move (criterion #2) and, IMHO, it matched the criterion: "Japanese 500-yen commemorative coin 1993 Imperial Wedding" is more descriptive and lesser ambiguous than "Japanese commemorative coin". Just to say, a Japanese commemorative coin could refer to any kind of coin (not only yen) for any special event in any time. As for the "St. Mary's Church, -insert location-" (just an example), is better to specify. Sorry if I was wrong but, I repeat, I think that the old title was too generic. Value was not specified and, also adding "yen" the ambiguity would have been great in the same way. Because the tile didn't specify "yen" (created in 1871), it could refer to any Japanese currency (Tokugawa, Bakumatsu, etc). I hope my explanation was clear and I hope not to have created technical problems. Regards. --Dэя-Бøяg 14:22, 14 November 2015 (UTC)

Identification of stag beetle
[edit]Hello DerBorg, i found this image of stag beetle image discussion and wrote about my doubts concerning right ID. It seems to be a male individual of the European stag beetle with rather small mandibles as often happening. Likewise individuals have been erroneously named L.c. "forma capreolus", leading easily to mixing up with east American Reddish-brown stag beetle. Could you please clear the tue ID?
Thanks in advance Erwin Stamnaria0568 (talk) 08:33, 21 August 2016 (UTC)
Thanks for your answer and addition to the photos! I am waiting for ID confirmation by a german entomologist, however am pretty sure about Lucanus cervus. You will possibly know Boris Büche, i do suppose he will be an active wikipedian as well? Will let you know his statement to your images. Freundliche Grüße aus der Steiermark Erwin Stamnaria0568 (talk) 09:02, 22 August 2016 (UTC)
Have found the right Category:Lucanus tetraodon for your 4 photos from Campania. They do match other images of this mediterranean beetle species, and i do assume it should be the nominative subspecies tetraodon. The subspecies seems not to be much important in this case, thus i do suggest to leave it apart. Now you could do the moving to right category and change the names. Bis zum nächsten Mal Erwin Stamnaria0568 (talk) 20:43, 22 August 2016 (UTC)

Contesting rename
[edit]I object to your rename of File:Tourism, development and peace - The story of Rwanda (41565511561).jpg, which is part of a sequence of related images, to File:Édouard Ngirente.jpg - it is the latter name which is ambiguous. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 22:22, 25 July 2018 (UTC)
- Uhm, you are right. Even if the other request was valid, your request encompasses 2 criteria: #1 (uploader request) and, mainly, #4 (harmonizing a large set of images). I've seen the categories and the sequences and... I requested a "counter-rename". Even if I'm a filemover, I can't move the file by myself because the original title exists and only an admin can delete it (temporarily) to allow the page move. Important message for file movers
[edit]A community discussion has been closed where the consensus was to grant all file movers the suppressredirect
user right. This will allow file movers to not leave behind a redirect when moving files and instead automatically have the original file name deleted. Policy never requires you to suppress the redirect, suppression of redirects is entirely optional.
Possible acceptable uses of this ability:
- To move recently uploaded files with an obvious error in the file name where that error would not be a reasonable redirect. For example: moving "Sheep in a tree.jpg" to "Squirrel in a tree.jpg" when the image does in fact depict a squirrel.
- To perform file name swaps.
- When the original file name contains vandalism. (File renaming criterion #5)
Please note, this ability should be used only in certain circumstances and only if you are absolutely sure that it is not going to break the display of the file on any project. Redirects should never be suppressed if the file is in use on any project. When in doubt, leave a redirect. If you forget to suppress the redirect in case of file name vandalism or you are not fully certain if the original file name is actually vandalism, leave a redirect and tag the redirect for speedy deletion per G2.
The malicious or reckless breaking of file links via the suppressredirect
user right is considered an abuse of the file mover right and is grounds for immediate revocation of that right. This message serves as both a notice that you have this right and as an official warning. Questions regarding this right should be directed to administrators. --Majora (talk) 21:35, 7 November 2019 (UTC)

If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. Source of derivative work is not properly indicated: File:Teggiano-Stemma.jpg
[edit]This file may be deleted. |
A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:Teggiano-Stemma.jpg, is a derivative work, containing an "image within an image". Examples of such works would include a photograph of a sculpture, a scan of a magazine cover, or a map that has been altered from the original. In each of these cases, the rights of the creator of the original must be considered, as well as those of the creator of the derivative work.
While the description page states who made this derivative work, it currently doesn't specify who created the original work, so the overall copyright status is unclear. If you did not create the original work depicted in this image, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. Please edit the file description and add the missing information, or the file may be deleted. If you created the original content yourself, enter this information as the source. If someone else created the content, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it, the name and ISBN of the book you scanned it from, or similar. You should also name the author, provide verifiable information to show that the content is in the public domain or has been published under a free license by its author, and add an appropriate template identifying the public domain or licensing status, if you have not already done so. Please add the required information for this and other files you have uploaded before adding more files. If you need assistance, please ask at the help desk. Thank you! |
