Block User:Shamshamster1234
Shamshamster1234 (talk · contributions · Move log · block log · uploads · Abuse filter log) has repeatedly uploaded overtly copyrighted and derivative works. Has been warned multiple times. By six separate editors. Including warnings in early November 2019, escalation in early December 2019 and a more recent "final warning" after yet more copyrighted material was added subsequently. Today the uploader has added yet more copyvio or mis-labelled content. CIR and AgF are long since past. Guliolopez (talk) 19:19, 8 December 2019 (UTC)
- Comment. Here's just one very recent "for instance" for this user in which (in the space of a couple of hours):
- 16:16, 8 December 2019 - User uploads copyvio image to Commons
- 19:06, 8 December 2019 - User is advised of copyvio on Commons
- 19:22, 8 December 2019 - Image is deleted as copyvio from Commons (by Commons admin Túrelio)
- 19:35, 8 December 2019 - User uploads the same copyvio image to EN Wikipedia
- 19:46, 8 December 2019 - User is advised of copyvio on EN Wikipedia
- 20:33, 8 December 2019 - Images is deleted as copyvio from EN Wikipedia (by EN WP admin User:RHaworth)
- 20:42, 8 December 2019 - User REUPLOADS the same image, yet again, back to Commons
- This just isn't funny any more. Its just not. Guliolopez (talk) 20:56, 8 December 2019 (UTC)

- VKras, did they ask you? --Achim (talk) 17:27, 7 December 2019 (UTC)
@ Achim No, but 10 years is extremely long time. --VKras (talk) 17:32, 7 December 2019 (UTC)
- What makes you think that after ten years they would be interested in returning to Commons? At ENWIKI, the account has been renamed to en:User talk:Flappy~enwiki in 2015 and the user hasn't been active ever since. De728631 (talk) 17:45, 7 December 2019 (UTC)
- Not done: Offending & harrassing sockmaster, at least one sock locked globally. Please refrain from scanning for LT blocks with revoked tp access as it had no benefit neither to us nor to the heroes that have been shown the door many years ago. If there is a recent request by an IP or by any other way I'd be fine to do so. --Achim (talk) 17:46, 7 December 2019 (UTC)
@ Achim Just for my curiosity, when will this user get their tpa back? I am definitely not asking for tpa restoration again. This question is not because I am feel bad or other problems, its only because I am interested in finding out. What do you mean by LT? --VKras (talk) 17:58, 7 December 2019 (UTC)

Can anybody please restore their talk page access to give them another chance to make a satisfactory unblock request. If they abuse it, it can be revoked again. Maybe they will do good in their next unblock request. Lets see how they go. --VKras (talk) 15:01, 7 December 2019 (UTC)

User:JarektBot
Hi, this bot currently flags lots of my old files incorrectly as "original creation by uploader". Most of them were only uploaded by me, but not created. I had suggested on the bots talk page to restrict this task to files marked as own work by uploader; just now apparently a new batch load was started without reacting to this. Bot should be indefinitely blocked until this is addressed and old files are cleaned up. This bot generates a whole mess at the moment. Sorry. --Schlurcher (talk) 16:19, 25 December 2019 (UTC)
- Have blocked for a week and advised on talkpage. Rodhullandemu (talk) 16:46, 25 December 2019 (UTC)
- I paused this quickstatements batch, but I need some examples of the issues. The database query I use (https://quarry.wmflabs.org/query/40759 ) specifically only looks for files that transclude {{Own}} template and this property is 100% equivalent. --Jarekt (talk) 17:13, 25 December 2019 (UTC)
- Hi, I think this bot can be unblocked again with the understanding that the the task is not resumed. This noticeboard here is not the right place for a discussion regarding the bot task. As far as I see, JarektBot is also not approve for the performed task. Thus, my suggestion would be to get community input and discuss this properly as part of a new request on Commons:Bots/Requests. Part of this discussion should include, how the edits done so far can be corrected. --Schlurcher (talk) 19:20, 25 December 2019 (UTC)
- Unblocked now. However I still do not see what was the issue: source of file (P7482) = original creation by uploader (Q66458942) was designed to mean exactly the same as template {{Own}}, or that the file was created by the uploader. Today Schlurcher rewrote the documentation of the template to signify that image was created by the person mentioned in author field, which is the case (hopefully) for every file on Commons. Schlurcher if some of your uploads do not use Own work template correctly than by all means correct the wikitext and remove source of file (P7482) property. --Jarekt (talk) 20:38, 25 December 2019 (UTC)
- The wording on {{Own}} reflects only the majority of the use of the template. I have raised this on the discussion page. The template is also used for cases where the "own work" applies to the author not the uploader. I doubt this is only the case for my uploads (especially as the cases currently changed by your bot have been updated to use {{Own}} after my initial upload). As far as I see, JarektBot is not approved for the performed task. Thus, please get community input and approval prior to performing any further changes. I'm happy to discuss your request on Commons:Bots/Requests. Part of this discussion should include, how the edits done so far can be corrected. --Schlurcher (talk) 21:40, 25 December 2019 (UTC)

Sandesh9822 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · edit filter log · block user · block log)
- There has been a long history of copyvio's and uploads with wrong licenses, including socking on various projects. Even here they have been warned several times and they are still doing the same by uploading copyvios. Here they were blocked for a week and their sock was indef blocked. Recently their two socks got blocked on enwiki, out of one is active here on this project too. I request admins here to take whatever action is needed to stop them from abusively using multiple accounts. thanks QueerEcofeminist "cite! even if you fight"!!! [they/them/their] 16:41, 7 January 2020 (UTC)
- @QueerEcofeminist: Prashant1308 and Vijay bramhane both blocked as socks, which is actually pretty obvious even without the en.wiki SPI. I have also indefinitely blocked the master, as this is apparently not merely block evasion, but global lock evasion. See Sandesh Tupsundre, another sock. GMGtalk 17:38, 7 January 2020 (UTC)
- The uploads by the socks probably need to be evaluated, and if needed added to the DR for the master. It looks like the locked sock still has some live uploads. So they may not all be bad. GMGtalk 17:40, 7 January 2020 (UTC)

- Ah I see. My apologies. Well, I'm confused. It won't let do anything directly to the translated pages. I don't understand. COM:TA doesn't say anything about protection. GMGtalk 20:50, 6 February 2020 (UTC)
- I'm not that familiar with translations, but I think (and I think I've read it somewhere) protecting translations is not like the normal protection process. Translations are not in fact one single page, but a series of translation "unit"s. Any update on units will automatically be applied on the main translation page. So, the only protection method I can think of is cascading protection, but that's problematic as well, because it doesn't protect uncreated pages/units from being created. There is, of course, another way as well: adding the title to the title blacklist. That being said, I'm not sure if this is the right method to do it. In addition, I don't know if the translation extension is designed to work with such protection methods. I don't know if it will show a proper error when the user is not autoconfirmed, or if it just shows something like "an error occurred". Ahmadtalk 20:59, 6 February 2020 (UTC)
Well, my understanding is that cascading semi-protection is hard disabled. The button is there, but you can't click it. Given that per COM:TA, only admin+translation admin can delete translation pages, I'm betting that only they can protect them too, and we just haven't added that bit to the existing guidance. But I'm not sure who we could ping that currently holds both flags. GMGtalk 22:35, 6 February 2020 (UTC)- Nope. That's not it either. I'd very much like someone to come along and explain how this is supposed to work. It's probably something obvious and I'm not not tech savvy at all. GMGtalk 22:44, 6 February 2020 (UTC)
- Maybe @Ymblanter: knows. They're also a sysop on Wikidata, which also uses translation. GMGtalk 22:46, 6 February 2020 (UTC)

- Well, protecting translations in an easy way has always been pain in the ass. I couldn't find a word about it in the documentation, probably even creators of Translate extension don't know how to do it. Anyway, as a quick fix I just have created rule #229 for AbuseFilter. As you can see, for now it works for Indonesian, but can be easily extended to other languages or other Wiki Loves contests. Feel free to modify the rule (if you're an admin) or propose changes. I didn't bother myself with a proper message for anonymous users (default is used) because I think it's just waste of time. --jdx Re: 01:48, 7 February 2020 (UTC)
- Guys, It is possible to protect individual translation unit pages, though it is not advisable. Also, to prevent further edits to translations, we should add the source language as only priority language and disable translations to other languages. See mw:Help:Extension:Translate/Page translation administration. At this point, IMO we can only do is revert and block IP. Kind regards, — Tulsi Bhagat (contribs | talk) 05:49, 7 February 2020 (UTC)
- Yeah, it's possible to protect individual translations of each translation unit (TU), but it's painful, softly speaking. I don't think anyone finds protecting (for a given language) e.g. 30 translated units a nice job. And every TU may be translated to many languages and these translations may be and often are vandalized. Just pain… Anyway, in about 3 hours since it started the AF has rejected three attempts to vandalize Indonesian translation – see the log. --jdx Re: 07:37, 7 February 2020 (UTC)

- Done. Strange to see, that Commons has more than 15 000 invalid SVG files. Taivo (talk) 08:39, 12 February 2020 (UTC)
- @Taivo: The W3C-invalidity means only that an SVG file does not comply properly to W3C-estimated formal restrictions, as defining an ID starting with a number, or containing an illegal space. W3C-invalid SVG files are not always bad, it is more a categorization property than a classification; but Commons has also a lot of really bad files... -- sarang♥사랑 08:53, 12 February 2020 (UTC)

I'm reopening this thread as it is necessary. The problem increased to 200+ vandalistic edits per week. It looks like a botnet attack, some IPs (I did block) are confirmed by Spamhaus' CBL to be botnet IPs. Filtered recent changes show what's going on. Page creations are no problem as they are blocked anyway by filter 105. jdx' filter 229 is working very well, so I suggest to extend it for all languages (=subpages) until the game is over. --Achim (talk) 14:49, 17 February 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks for reopening the thread. I agree that we should extend it to other languages. In my opinion, the rate of vandalism is too high, and the rate of good edits is too low. Ahmadtalk 14:55, 17 February 2020 (UTC)
- Hehe, I was just about to do it myself, but it's nice that there is some support. Anyway, it's done. Although please note that only translations of the main page are protected. Let me know if the regexp should be modified to match other (sub)pages: Rules, FAQ, International Team, etc. I haven't watched their translations, but I bet that they are also heavily vandalized. --jdx Re: 16:05, 17 February 2020 (UTC)

User:World's Lamest Critic blocked for a month for outing (again); consider indefinite ban?
Unfortunately I found this user outing people, which they have a history of (and led to them being indefinitely banned from the English Wikipedia).
I've provisionally blocked them for a month to give themselves a chance to cool down and reflect on how their actions are disruptive and potentially harmful, but I think there is some merit in discussing a full, indefinite ban.
Thoughts?
James F. (talk) 00:42, 26 February 2020 (UTC)
- Comment I do not see evidence of outing. What happened on Gorilla Warfare's user talkpage, was not excellent, but I don't see reason for block. Taivo (talk) 08:20, 26 February 2020 (UTC)
- The 2018-11-16 condition of unblock on Wikimedia Commons User_talk:World's_Lamest_Critic#Blocked was extremely clear "For all intents and purposes, what you posted was not acceptable and you did it not once but twice. Public mailing list or not that is using information posted outside this site to out someone when they have not personally stated such information here, on this project. Doing so will not be tolerated. Period. This isn't a game of connect the dots. You cannot use outside information to post personally identifiable information. I am willing to give you one more chance provided you promise that you will never do that again but that is it. If you break this promise I will reblock you indefinitely but this time it will be with talk page access revoked. " This agreement has been broken, the block can be reinstated.
- Ever since the unblock they have been skirting the agreement, and they appear to have been unable to resist targeting other users. The Oversight block on the English Wikipedia was justified, and behaviour since then, along with a lack of recognition that taunting others with outing or skirting outing is not a game that they can have fun trolling others with. I would rather see a global ban being considered rather than continue to argue the pros and cons on Commons. The argument that they have "technically" not outed anyone today, is very different from creating a hostile environment by using the same tactics.
- Recent examples of deliberately skirting the unblock by using real-life identities as a weapon:
- Though the cases may not be outing, it is still using off-wiki material to hound others, create a hostile environment and close down discussion from their targets. --Fæ (talk) 09:59, 26 February 2020 (UTC)
- Even before the enwiki ban it was clear that WLC knows exactly where the line is, and knows exactly how to talk their way out of sanctions; implications and dropped hints as to the identities of other editors. While I don't condone people breaking the rules (as far as socking/vandalism goes), I don't condone connecting people to their IPs or their real-life identities revealed. If WLC wants to dig dirt on people, let it be on WPO. Primefac (talk) 10:53, 26 February 2020 (UTC)
Info: As an update, they've been globally locked by the stewards. Thank you, Green Giant James F. (talk) 20:38, 26 February 2020 (UTC)
As a note since I was the one that did the original block and set the unblock restrictions. Looking at the edit in question that resulted in this I support the reinstatement of the block. Previous incidents that were brought to my attention resulted in no action, as Primefac stated they know exactly where the line is most of the time. But that post crossed it. Per my unblock conditions the block could have been indefinite with TPA revoked but that seems a little moot now due to the lock. --Majora (talk) 21:54, 26 February 2020 (UTC)

Here have a fine example of one admin blocking another diff, and telling that admin that they will never support the person Gnangarra 12:29, 12 March 2020 (UTC)
- For the some background an image Bidgee uploaded here was used by a newspaper source from here, an IP nominated it as a CV its been restored. NOw because Bidgee is unhappy with the original action he gets blocked for it.If commons wasnt screwed before its definitely screwed up now. Gnangarra 12:32, 12 March 2020 (UTC)
- “For the some background”: a) User:Bidgee is not an admin. b) I am not in conflict with this user. I've supported his undeletion request, have invited the administrator involved, blocked the account created for unreasonable nomination of the file discussed , and answered Bidgee’s question whether his file was used in Wikimedia projects. After the discussion he started on my discussion page, I asked him to be calm. c) I don't mind this block to be lifted and hidden, but I still believe at that time the actions of both him and the anonymous user required an immediate response. - @Bill497: File:COVID-19 Outbreak World Map.svg is currently cascade protected by Commons:Auto-protected files/wikipedia/en, which means the admins at English Wikipedia fully protected a page (which is the Main Page, which has always been protected) that is cascading and includes the said image. Unfortunately, you have to wait until the image is no longer in the Main Page of English Wikipedia. pandakekok9 09:08, 15 March 2020 (UTC)
- @Pandakekok9: In that case is there any way to just get it off the main page? I understand that it’s there because of the relevancy of the topic, but this map also cannot afford to not be updated for a long period of time due to the extremely fast changing situation. It is already outdated significantly after only a few hours. --Ratherous (talk) 09:16, 15 March 2020 (UTC)

EatchaBot
Not sure where to discuss this, but User:EatchaBot is currently archiving Flickr-pages, which seems to me a total waste of energy and supplies. Sources of Flickr-images on Commons have been verified, so why should Commons archive it even elsewhere? The bot-owner, User:Eatcha, appears to be on a long holiday, that's why I came here to request the bot being stopped immediately. I want to add that while the bot is busy, it seems totally impossible to archive any other page on Archive.org, Eatchabot seems to usurp all capacity.
In a site note, I like to also mention that it is not the first time these days that archive.org is connected to some of my worries, especially connected to users who get paid by archive.org, but I have no idea whether Eatchabot is performing paid actions. Eissink (talk) 15:50, 15 March 2020 (UTC).
- You may find Commons:Help_desk#Sleepy_bot? useful. All your assumptions are false, I don't get paid by IA but there's a consensus to archive links (find that yourself) and "Eatchabot seems to usurp all capacity." Of what ? Your IP has a different quota than mine. //Eatcha (talk) 16:33, 15 March 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks for your answer, but why are you archiving sources of files like this, that was uploaded ánd reviewed in January? Eissink (talk) 17:24, 15 March 2020 (UTC).
- This might sound weird but I am trying to add the archive parameter to all files in Category:Flickr images reviewed by FlickreviewR 2, I can add links to latest files first but if older links are still alive, it makes sense to save them first. The files generator is returning files in alphabetical order. // Eatcha (talk) 18:08, 15 March 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks for your answer, but why are you archiving sources of files like this, that was uploaded ánd reviewed in January? Eissink (talk) 17:24, 15 March 2020 (UTC).
- If the only reason to add parameters is that FlickrReview is not completely up to date, then why don't you use your bot to make FlickrReviews? I guess it is all coincidence, but I don't really get it and to me it doesn't make a lot of sense, but I guess it now has the attention of others too, so I'll leave it here. Good luck. - Thanks for the link. Maybe Bots should mention this kind of proposals and/or other, relevant constituting surveys in the edit summary by default, to prevent discussions like these. And maybe you should also not state on your Talk page that you are away for the next few months, because I would have asked you on your Talk page and not find another way to express my concerns. - The message about wikibreak, I accept it's confusing I usually add such templates 1-2 weeks before leaving, but there's a reason : It's easy to take a brake if you don't get daily messages which are often bug/feature requests. I also added a big line on bot's user-page about the same, the summaries are already pretty big. Eatcha (talk) 14:16, 16 March 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks. And that's it, as far as I'm concerned. Thanks, Eissink (talk) 16:42, 16 March 2020 (UTC).

In this environment (online versus face-to-face), sometimes it is more difficult to work with others because we don’t have the additional cues that help us. Eissink is harassing me on my discussion page here and here. He is blaming my work and has a very rude language. Was aready blocked before. What I have to do? -Pechristener (talk) 19:01, 25 March 2020 (UTC)
- I was never blocked before on Commons, so there's your first wrong. I was merely trying to make this User understand that a map without legend is worthless. When I saw that others too had asked for legend to his maps ánd I found that his maps do not reflect reality, I started wondering if he was perhaps trolling everybody. I might have gone a bit strong on language, but I can only say that Pechristener's answers are far from satisfying: here's someone who thinks he can make maps on an important topic, yet he or she cannot even tell what we are looking at, that is: what are the numbers corresponding to the colors etc. If anything, I think the work of Pechristener, at least the current Covid-19-maps, should all be deleted, because in my opinion they are not only worthless, but as I have tried to make clear on User's Talk page also, they are not reliable. I apologize for words too strong or maybe for escalating too fast, but I think my track record on Commons reflects my contribution to reliability of the image base and I don't think I'm wrong here. Eissink (talk) 19:12, 25 March 2020 (UTC).

- Please stop acting so offended and indignant. It's the content of your maps that is the problem, not I. Apparently you are of the opinion that I don't have the right to defend myself from your proposterous accusations, but that is not how things work. You sound as if you have never ever heard a critical word before. Eissink (talk) 19:30, 25 March 2020 (UTC).
- Ok, now you start your harass me also here and start and continue with your insults and allegations.--Pechristener (talk) 19:21, 25 March 2020 (UTC)
- Pechristener makes nice two dimensional maps of railway tracks and the like, but handling large scale statistics might be beyond user's reach. Pechristener might not like that truth, but trying to get another convicted for handing the truth over, is symptomatic for the amount of denial that I met. I don't know how I should have brought the message in another way, and no one else did. If you make a map that reflects the same death rate in Spain and the Netherlands, while the former is over three times higher and you cannot tell what is the legend of the map, than you shouldn't create those kind of maps for Commons. Period. Please don't blame the messager. Eissink (talk) 19:27, 25 March 2020 (UTC).
- Blaming continues including the claim that I did not know the index. No improvement of the behavior of Eissink visible. I have deleted all insults from Eissink on my discussion page.--Pechristener (talk) 19:32, 25 March 2020 (UTC)
- I have asked you for the numbers and you could not give them. It's not the first time that people start chasing me when they don't like the content of my words, yet blame it on my style. It's so tiresome. If you can't tell what the scale of your troublesome looking map is, than please stop making maps for Commons, but don't blame me for telling you that. Eissink (talk) 19:37, 25 March 2020 (UTC).

- regarding the numbers: Can't remember that you ask me for the numbers. If you want to have them, then please read the description of my files, there you can find the source. btw: I checked the description file of one of your maps. It is very poor.
- Yes, I see, that your words and your behavior is not welcome on Wikipedia. This is also the reason you are blocked in wikipedia.nl
- Administrators: Please block Eissink for personal attack also on Commons. He is already permanently blocked on the wikipedia.nl for the same issue. More the twenty entries in the Blocking Log and now permanently blocked.--Pechristener (talk) 19:46, 25 March 2020 (UTC)
- If I didn't ask, then why did you answer: "The colors are automatically generated by QGIS base on a table with number of inhabitants and number of death. So nothing wrong with that. I only have to extract a reasonable legend out of this." If you fail to see that the coloring already is the reasonable legend, be it that you don't know what numbers they stand for, than I think my point is clear: you don't know what you are doing, you are coloring and you don't even know what numbers you are coloring, meanwhile have a scale that levels the death rate of the Netherlands to that of Spain and Italy. And your assumption that I cannot make maps while I have made many maps in recent days, as anyone can see and which is one of the reason for my interest in yours, is quite telling also. I want to ask you to let go of your claim, and I certainly want to ask you to stop pretending you know even the slightest of the reason for me being blocked on NLwiki, because you don't know anything about it and it doesn't play a roll in any of this. Why should I be trialed here by you again on a case of which you are totally ignorant? Is this how you think things should work? And btw, I am not even permanently blocked, but indefinite; I find it sad to see someone talk with all confidence in the world, while speaking untruth after untruth. Eissink (talk) 20:03, 25 March 2020 (UTC).
- It's good that you continue blaming me here, then the admins don't have to read further. For sure, I see for what you are blocked, everybody can see that. Seems, that you didn't change your behavior. I still not see where your many maps are in you upload page, there are only a few Netherlands maps beside of some pictures.--Pechristener (talk) 22:01, 25 March 2020 (UTC)
- I'm not blaming, I'm saying that your maps without legend, that you have been making for days, are of no use, and I perceive that you don't see what's wrong with them. I will not give you a pat on the shoulder for a map that is useless, I just tell you that your maps are useless, besides probably being incorrect, at least the last one (but who can check and verify if one doesn't know the distribution scale?). You may find telling the truth rude, but that should not be my problem. I apologized for too strong words, if they can be found, and one could argue that I should have taken a different approach, which might have been better, but it's always easy to say from a neutral position and given your response I doubt whether someone would have gotten you so far as to make a legend, I really doubt it, because you still don't seem to get it. I made eight maps the last couple of days, I'm sorry if you are not able to find them. Eissink (talk) 22:30, 25 March 2020 (UTC).

That my maps are of no use is your POV. People would not have integrated them in articles, if they had been useless. For sure, I would have made legends for the maps, maybe even some hours earlier, but I was for a long time distracted by your rude discussion style and blaming. Your eight maps is definitely not much work compared what I did for Wikipedia. --Pechristener (talk) 00:41, 26 March 2020 (UTC)
- The difference between the first and your last version of this map is huge. If I would not have reprimanded you, I think we would still have the first unreliable and really unreadable map. Thank you for the last one; I'm not going to check if the data is correct, but it looks good, quite contrary to the earlier one. I'm glad you were able to do this. Eissink (talk) 09:33, 26 March 2020 (UTC).
You still not got it. I do not offend, when you write about my map, but your language was absolutely inappropriate and was personal attack of the rudest kind. The first maps are not wrong as you always try to state, but the color scale was according to the rank of the infection, so each country had a different color scale according to it's rank and not a color according to the quantity of infected people. I changed now the concept, so it is easier to understand. I still have the feeling that your communication style is to be as rude as possible to have the people doing what you want, but this is not the concept of Wikipedia, even you try to explain me that the real world is like this.--Pechristener (talk) 11:28, 26 March 2020 (UTC)

- As I said a few days I want Alexis unblocked, Zhuyifei1999 and Majora both to un-resign and for everything to go back the way it was. –Davey2010Talk 11:52, 30 March 2020 (UTC)

This template is used on more than 2000 pages and is a relatively complex template. Recently an editor has tried to make major changes to all aspects of the template and been unwilling to stop despite it breaking the template implementation on several of the pages it is used on. I think the user has some good ideas, but they need to be individually discussed so they can be implemented in a way that does not adversely affect pages using the template. I have tried to encourage them towards discussion first, but their disruptive edits have not ceased. I am trying to assume good faith on their part so I don't want to make this about them, just want to put a protection on the template to give time for reasoned discussion on proposed changes to happen before making changes that affect 2000+ pages. Arrogant, abusive and violent behavior of some administrators in Russian Wikipedia and Wikimedia

Hi! I’d like to draw your attention to the problem with some administrators in Russian Wikipedia (ruwiki) and Wikimedia, which abusive and destructive behavior toward competent authors leads to significant damage to Wikipedia content.
I’m a woman who holds two PhD degrees in physics /mathematics and chemistry. I was born in Russia and lived for many years both in Russia and in the USA. For last 25 years I live and work in Finland, published tens of scientific works on physics and nanochemistry in the highest level American and European scientific journals, and I am proud of being a referee in these journals.
Over last 15 years I also performed research on Russian history; my main focus here is the history of the ancient Russian noble family of Nebolsines, whose descendants now live in the USA, France, Belgium, Russia and Finland (I am one of them). The Nebolsines family gave the world 4 admirals in the Russian Imperial Navy, as well as lawyers, scientists, artists, musicians, engineers, journalists, etc. in the above mentioned countries.
As a result of my historical research, in year 2019 I published a series of 6 big scientific articles in a peer-review historical journal with independent editorial board. One of these articles named “The ancient Nebolsine family in the service of Russia: “Console yourself by consciousness of the holy fulfilled duty…””, published in September 2019 on 11 journal pages, with 76 references and 12 illustrations (Кочарова Н. В. Древний род Небольсиных на службе России: «Да утешит вас всех сознание свято исполненного долга…» // Военно-Исторический Журнал. 2019. № 9. С. 82-92.) This publication is about the life and military service of Admiral in Russian Imperial Navy Arcadi Nebolsine (1865-1917) and based on the previously unpublished documents of Russian, European and American archives; 3 photos of Admiral A. Nebolsine in the article are from the Nebolsine family archive.
In October – December 2019, basing on my aforementioned publication, I made substantial and notable contribution to biographical Небольсин,_Аркадий_Константинович| article about Admiral A. Nebolsine. In particular, I added previously unknown biographical facts, data on his origin, citations from published memoirs about him, reliable (published) sources and also uploaded the file of his photo, also published in September 2019 in my scientific article. Recently, this file was deleted from the article Небольсин,_Аркадий_Константинович, as well as from Wikimedia.
On 3/17/ 2020 the ruwiki’s registered user Wikisaurus, reverting my edits, committed vandalism, which significantly damaged this Небольсин,_Аркадий_Константинович| article. On Wikisaurus talk page I asked him to explain his action, but he insulted me, accusing me of impudence.
On 3/20/ 2020, seeing an absence of any arguments from Wikisaurus and other users as well as inaction of ruwiki’s bureaucrats, I reverted Wikisaurus’ edits to the article as vandal changes, after which administrator Lesless removed my last edit and gave me a warning “for insults, threats and aggression”. I asked Lesless on his talk page when and what kind of violations of ethical behavior or aggression have been seen from my part, but didn’t get any explanation (because there were not any). I underline that I always discussed with users /administrators with utmost correctness and politeness. This can be checked on talk pages of users Wikisaurus, Sealle, Neolexx (my discussions with them on their pages are already archived), as well as on my talk page and on the article discussion page.
On the same day 3/20/2020 users Yellow Horror, Neolexx as well as administrators Sealle and Lesless on the above mentioned pages began to discuss my personality and to troll me aggressively with obvious intent of provoking me into displaying emotional response. My persecution (otherwise it cannot be called) was led by Lesless and Yellow Horror. In particular, from Yellow Horror I heard “there are no irreplaceable authors” and from Lesless his confession that he is a macho and also accusations of my self-promotion. Despite this trolling, I was always ethically correct, free from any threats or aggression. With hope to reach consensus, I proposed to shorten my contribution in the the article text if the deleted by Wikisaurus template with part of my contribution will be restored. However, no one wanted to hear me.
On 3/22/2020, trying to reach consensus on the article content, I applied to community of ruwiki on the article’s discussion page, asking for opinions whether my edits are useful for the article quality or not. Right after that on the same discussion page Neolexx continued to troll me declaring that as notable source my historical publication about service of Admiral A. Nebolsine is “twice insignificant”. Despite this trolling, with hope to reach consensus on the article content, I tried to explain that my edits are accurate, neutral and based on reliable sources, but no one wanted to hear me.
On the same day 3/22/2020, seeing the absence of arguments for committed vandalism to the article, which Wikisaurus and Lesless made, but only continuous and aggressive trolling me from the above mentioned company of Russian males, I returned the article to its best state on 15 December, 2019. Next day, on March 23, at 14:38 ruwiki’s steward El-Chupanebrej reverted this edit and also, at 16:31, blocked me for one day “for unethical behavior”.
On 3/25/2020 the user Neolexx continued direct attacks and trolling me aggressively. On the article discussion page he declared that I am not a historian and my scientific publication about Admiral Nebolsine is “twice insignificant”. On the same day 3/25/2020 Neolexx removed from the article the only reliable source - my scientific publication about A. Nebolsine, and instead included not reliable source (ref. # 4), where Nebolsine’s name is not even mentioned. In addition, in the article chapter “Memory” Neolexx, contrary to my wish, mentioned my name as a descendant of Admiral A. Nebolsine (which is not true).
On the same day 3/25/2020, I expressed my indignation at Neolexx actions and trolling, and also demanded to remove my name from the article text as well as to return the only reliable source – my historical publication. After that, my name from the article text was removed and my publication as reliable source was included again (ref. # 3). However, in order to push me out not only from Wikipedia, but also from Wikimedia, to my persecution connected administrator Sealle and from his submission - Wikimedia bureaucrat NoFrost.
I also made significant contribution to all sections of biographical Фену,_Александр_Николаевич| article about historical figure, Colonel in Russian Imperial Army Fenoult Alexander Nikolaevich (1873-1954). I also uploaded all images in this article, including the main photo of A. Fenoult from my family archive file. I personally scanned original photo, made its restoration, uploaded restored file to Wikimedia and to the article.
On 3/25/2020, administrator Sealle on the discussion page of this file issued his verdict: “Historical photo, unlikely to be own work as claimed” and set the template to delete it.
Meanwhile, on 3/26/2020, administrator Neolexx on Небольсин,_Аркадий_Константинович| discussion page went over to direct threats addressed to me: “I recommend you to completely refrain from editing this article. If the recommendation will not be heard, Wikipedia has mechanisms to limit access by technical means.” Neolexx also accused me in a conflict of interest, which was expected, since it was for this reason that he had previously tried to include my name to the article.
On 3/26/2020, I replied to Neolexx attacks: ”Over the past 10 days, all of you, with whom I've tried to reach consensus, have not discussed the article, but instead, trying to push me out of Wikipedia, discussed my personality”.
After that, on 3/26/2020 at 7:54 PM Finnish time administrator Sealle, who on 3/25/2020 set a template to delete my Фену_Александр_Николаевич_.jpg| file, blocked me “for unethical behavior” with expiration time of one week.
On 3/27/2020 I sent an email for OTRS (Ticket:2020032710007141) declaring that I am the full copyright holder of both the original image and File:Фену_Александр_Николаевич_.jpg. Despite this, until 3/29/2020 I needed to prove to Wikimedia bureaucrat NoFrost that since I inherited this original photo from my relatives, I am the copyright holder of this file. Despite this, on 03/28/2020 NoFrost deleted this file from the article (template for deletion from Wikimedia still exists), while someone unknown took my other uploaded in the article photo of Colonel Fenoult, cropped it and inserted to the article as a main image.
On 4/2/2020 at 7:33 PM Finnish time Wikipedia user Diselist sent me a friendly message on my talk page, to which I replied the same day 4/2/2020 at 8:05 PM Finnish time.
Surprisingly, on 4/2/2020 at 8:23 PM Finnish time, administrator El-Chupanebrej unreasonably blocked me with with an expiration time of indefinite (account creation disabled, cannot edit own talk page) “for unethical behaviour”. Ccitation from his message on my talk page: “because being blocked, you continued to violate the norms of behavior accepted in Wikipedia, you are blocked indefinitely”. However, on 4/2/2020 at 8:05 PM I wasn't already blocked, because the expiration time of one week was over (7 days passed), and I certainly did not violate any norms of behavior.
On 4/3/2020 at 11.50 AM Finnish time steward Well-Informed Optimist unreasonably and without any notification deleted file Файл:Небольсин_Аркадий_Константинович_1906.jpg from the article with the portrait of Admiral A. Nebolsine, which was published in my scientific work in September 2019 and which I uploaded to Wikimedia and to the article in October 2019. By this vandal act the article was significantly damaged: now it doesn't contain any photo, since at the present time not a single archive (except for the family archive of Nebolsines) has an identified image of Admiral A. Nebolsine.
Simultaneously, on 4/3/2020 at 11.50 AM Finnish time, steward La loi et la justice unreasonably additionally blocked me for indefinite time.
On the same day 4/3/2020 at 8:04 PM Finnish time, I wrote an email letter to Well-Informed Optimist with explanation that since I published the image Файл:Небольсин_Аркадий_Константинович_1906.jpg in a peer-review historical journal in September 2019 (I gave the reference), I am the author and a copyright holder of this file. I didn’t get any response to my statement, nor this file was restored in Wikimedia and in the article.
As a result of this incomprehensible war with me, which was conducted by bureaucrats of ruwiki and Wikimedia, two biographical articles are significantly damaged compared to their best condition in December 2019, and two files with unique images of historical figures deleted.
Earlier I wanted to create several articles in Wikipedia; however, now I am undeservedly and indefinitely blocked and, after terrible experience with ruwiki and Wikimedia, my wish to contribute to Wikimedia Commons almost vanished. I would not want the actions of the aforementioned males to go unpunished, since these persons caused me (I am sure that not only me) not only moral but reputation damage, as well as significant damage to Wikipedia content. --Natalia Kocharova (talk) 23:59, 9 April 2020 (UTC)
- You complain due to your indefinite block in ru.wiki. Commons has nothing to do with that and Commons cannot unblock you there. Was the block correct or incorrect – Commons does not take position in that matter.
- You uploaded some photos into Commons. Sealle nominated one of them for deletion, because you called it own work, although you are obviously not the photographer. The deletion request was correct. Real photographer and correct license are needed. We (including myself) wish to help you choosing correct license, but photographer and first publication data are needed for that. Was the photo ever published before upload into Commons? This must be discussed at Commons:Deletion requests/File:Фену Александр Николаевич .jpg, not here. OTRS-permission was received, but not accepted; apparently you did not give enough proof, that you are heir of the photographer. Taivo (talk) 09:57, 10 April 2020 (UTC)
- @Wikisaurus, Yellow Horror, Neolexx, Sealle, Lesless, and El-chupanebrej: just to let you know about continuous and aggressive trolling by company of Russian males. --VLu (talk) 16:08, 10 April 2020 (UTC)

Semi-protection
- {{G}} - 766 transclusions (could also be TE'd if necessary)
- {{Mention}} - 141 transclusions, redirect of {{Reply to}}

All done. ~riley (talk) 06:37, 15 April 2020 (UTC)

- Another admin is free to protect this if they see the need. An autopatroller can also bring down the main page, COM:VIC is low on the list and it is not public-facing. My criteria for TE is 5000 transclusions. ~riley (talk) 06:57, 15 April 2020 (UTC)

- It's not that I don't have faith with TEs, it's just that IMO TE-protection should be used if edit requests are to be expected, unless they are either very sensitive like copyright licenses or redirects like these ones. But if our admins trust the TEs, I guess I should as well. :) pandakekok9 07:03, 15 April 2020 (UTC)

Sort of vandalism/test edits
Alfian1990 (talk · contributions · Move log · block log · uploads · Abuse filter log)
Adding captions. Sometimes adding nonsense. Sometimes adding wrong language. Sometimes adding a website. Just messing about. No urgency, not sure if you'd block it or not. ~ R.T.G 14:34, 17 April 2020 (UTC)
- @RTG: I don't see that anyone ever tried to talk to Alfian1990 about this behaviour. Running straight to the admin board is not how to settle such issues. Also, you should at least have notified them about this discussion (see the template on top of this page).
- That said, their edits are in fact somewhat erratic and unrelated to the images. What strikes me though is that all these seem to have been made with a tool #suggestededit-add 1.0. So it is probably the tool that cannot properly identify the images, but Alfian1990 just keeps adding these "suggestions" without scrutiny. De728631 (talk) 17:25, 17 April 2020 (UTC)
- The tag "suggestededit" is from an Android app from Mediawiki[7] which doesn't suggest what text to add at all. ~ R.T.G 18:12, 17 April 2020 (UTC)
- I see, thank you for clarifying this. Well, then these edits are even more unconstructive. Let's wait and see what Alfian1990 has to say. De728631 (talk) 18:58, 17 April 2020 (UTC)

Protecting prevents translation and addition of captions from non-autonconfirmed members and should be avoided where possible. ~riley (talk) 21:35, 19 April 2020 (UTC)
- @~riley: Could you also consider full upload protection for File:Flag of Germany (1935–1945).svg (used 82815 times across Wikimedia projects) and File:Apple logo black.svg (5245 times)? One bad change for both of those files would break tons of pages. Thanks, pandakekok9 02:44, 20 April 2020 (UTC)

Undo protection of Category:Incomplete deletion requests - missing subpage
Hello!
For some reason Category:Incomplete deletion requests - missing subpage is protected. The protection was made by the globally locked user INeverCry. Category:Deletion requests isn't even protected so I see no reason why this category with some 10-20 entries in it should be. Please unprotect since I want to make some small edits to the category page.Jonteemil (talk) 11:01, 20 April 2020 (UTC)
- These I see no reason for protection either. All protected by INeverCry:
- -- Jonteemil (talk) 11:11, 20 April 2020 (UTC)
- I support unprotection as well. There's no reason why categories should be indefinitely full protected. Protection should always be as short or as low as possible. pandakekok9 02:41, 21 April 2020 (UTC)

- Maybe, but editing protection should be removed, as there could be someone who needs to update the description from time to time. pandakekok9 07:44, 27 April 2020 (UTC)
- @Taivo and Pandakekok9: How about semi-protection for edits, and TE-protection for move and upload? Ahmadtalk 03:18, 29 April 2020 (UTC)
- I still don't think there should be protection for editing since there was no recent persistent vandalism or edit war, but I'm okay with it. pandakekok9 03:28, 29 April 2020 (UTC)

Massive copyvio after warnings in 2018 and 2019. I have identified 17 copyright violations. In a number of violations User:Qiushufang has cropped the watermark of the copyright owner away (e.g. 1 2, 3, 4). In others he ignored the copyright holder even though his name was directly to be found below the photograph (e.g. 1, 2, 3, 4). This is deliberate intent and not anymore ignorance on Qiushufang's part. I only checked a sample. That he cared to comply to copyright with his many other uploads cannot be guaranteed. IMO the entire batch needs to be deleted. Gun Powder Ma (talk) 14:40, 11 April 2020 (UTC)
- Done. The user was not formally warned. I warned him/her. Copyvios are nominated for deletion, but this is not copyvio-only user. No edits after 4th of April. Taivo (talk) 08:02, 12 April 2020 (UTC)
- Is this seriously the procedure here? *lol* How many copyright violations does it need to be qualified as "copyvio-only user"? Obviously, it is impossible to prove a violation in every single case. The way you interpret the rules it can be easily gamed. Upload many pictures, get a few deleted, most get through. Repeat after block with new account. Sorry, but this is laughable. You are aware that there is now likely a large number of pictures that he has uploaded to Commmons that violate copyright? At what point does the burden of proof shift to him? Guys, get real. Law is broken here! Gun Powder Ma (talk) 11:20, 12 April 2020 (UTC)
- I would block Qiushufang, if I had evidence of sockpuppetry or if (s)he had edited during last week or if (s)he had been warned in the past. Taivo (talk) 07:45, 13 April 2020 (UTC)
- So his other, undetected copyright violating images stay on Commons and I am right that he has successfully gamed the system? Yours is a purely schematic procedure that does not take in account the dimension of the copyright violation. What if I had shown you 50 or 100 violations, would you have handed out only a warning too because he had not yet received one? Please specify at what point
- a. the user gets permanently blocked for copyvio and
- b. his entire batch of pictures gets deleted from Commons?
- In other words, please specify at what point the burden of proof shifts to the user that his uploads are conforming to copyright laws? Gun Powder Ma (talk) 10:58, 13 April 2020 (UTC)
- So far I have no evidence of sockpuppetry. If you cannot name his other accounts, then, yes, he has gamed the system successfully. And there are few clear lines, at which point the user gets indefinitely blocked, because any clear line adds possibilities of wikilawyering and gaming the system. The user gets blocked, if an administrator feels, that this is right. One clear line is uploading a copyvio after warning. Taivo (talk) 08:40, 14 April 2020 (UTC)
- He has already gamed the system successfully because most of his copyright violations remain on Commons and you are not doing anything against it. That is why I am asking at what point does the administrative body recognize that his copyright violations constitute a systematic abuse that needs to be addressed in its entirety? I could provide more examples of copyvio, but you will understand that I am not going to the trouble to invest my time if the end result is that images are still only deleted on a case by case basis, while the copyright violator still gets a clap on the hand only. In this case it makes definitely more sense to take the whole matter first to a higher level to have a basic community decision which could be then acted upon in this particular and all the other cases which seem to pass administrative attention. Gun Powder Ma (talk) 09:56, 14 April 2020 (UTC)
- @Gun Powder Ma: please give more examples of copyvio. If I will get evidence of abusing multiple accounts, then I will start to block sockpuppet accounts indefinitely. But I am not a checkuser. If you have strong feeling of editing under multiple accounts, then you can make a request for investigation. Taivo (talk) 07:23, 15 April 2020 (UTC)
- @Taivo: Sure. I have identified another twenty copyright violations today, raising the total to 40 cases. User:Qiushufang has been scraping together photographs from all over the internet, particularly blog posts. Again, in some cases I noticed he removed the existing watermark. The user has uploaded over 700 files. His uploads share suspicious characteristics:
- Files are uploaded uniformly as "own work"
- The descriptions are always very brief
- Metadata is not included
- The systematic nature of his copyright violation is absolutely evident. Gun Powder Ma (talk) 16:39, 15 April 2020 (UTC)

- FWIW Qiushufang hasn't been active since 4 April so won't have seen his warning Gbawden (talk) 16:43, 15 April 2020 (UTC)
- He has been active in the English WP as late as 12 April and will have received all the alerts over the global account he is using. There is a reason why he is not showing up. Gun Powder Ma (talk) 17:32, 15 April 2020 (UTC)
- @Taivo: GPM and I were both part of an incident on English WP in which we were both warned to stay away from each other. According to the administrators' wishes I have stayed away from GPM, but I suspect he is continuing his war on me here as well: [8]. Qiushufang (talk) 23:07, 15 April 2020 (UTC)
- There is no interaction ban. Nothing keeps you from defending yourself here, certainly not me. Gun Powder Ma (talk) 23:30, 16 April 2020 (UTC)
- Qiushufang has now been warned and is well aware of the issue. If they upload another copyvio, they will be summarily blocked. The user has over 700 uploads to Commons, many of which are plausible "own work", for example File:Ming mail.jpg, so I don't think a nuke would be appropriate. And regardless of the scale of the problem, blocks are preventative not punitive. There is a decent chance that Qiushufang will respond appropriately to the warning, so a block at this point would be inappropriate. Kaldari (talk) 00:04, 18 April 2020 (UTC)

- File:Ming mail.jpg is actually a copyright violation too. Qiushufang took it from this blog post from 2017-01-16 or this one from 2016-01-02 . It is telling that one cannot find even a single proven non-copyvio. It stands to reason that most if not all of his 700 uploads are copyvios (minus perhaps the maps). If this is not sufficiently addressed on this level, I am going to take this one step up at a time until it is. Given the dimension of the copyvio, the reputation of Commons is at stake. Gun Powder Ma (talk) 00:39, 18 April 2020 (UTC)
- Info: Qiushufang had already been found in August 2019 to violate the copyrights of 14 images by User:Cold Season (Commons:Deletion requests/File:Armoured Qin general.jpg). User:Taivo himself deleted another one in a separate case. Thus, I am not the first user who noticed Qiushufang's copyvio behaviour and he had been duly warned. Gun Powder Ma (talk) 22:54, 18 April 2020 (UTC)
- There should also be eyes on the account User:Yprpyqp whose edits stopped as soon as the account User:Qiushufang started. Both accounts are very similar to each other, with very similar behavior and problems (therefore I highly suspect that both accounts belong to the same person). The issues still persists (despite the user being made aware of it repeatedly) and both accounts need to be scrutinized. I agree with Gun Powder Ma's assessment that the copyright of the user's uploaded files cannot be guaranteed, as the user's uploaded files are done in a misleading manner on a large scale (for which evidence have been laid out over a long period). --Cold Season (talk) 01:22, 19 April 2020 (UTC)
- The repeated disruptions (1, 2) of this page by redlink socks also seem connected to our discussion here. Gun Powder Ma (talk) 06:40, 19 April 2020 (UTC)
- Update: I requested a check user. Gun Powder Ma (talk) 06:58, 19 April 2020 (UTC)
- I have reported another 32 copyright violations, bringing up the total to around 70 cases or 10 percent of all uploaded images by Qiushufang. Again, in a lot of cases the watermark of the original was cropped away. To this number have to be added 15 or so cases reported in the past by several other users. We are clearly dealing here with Commons:License laundering on a large scale. Gun Powder Ma (talk) 09:22, 19 April 2020 (UTC)
- Plus ten more copyvios. Now 80 altogether. Gun Powder Ma (talk) 14:21, 24 April 2020 (UTC)
OK User has been blocked. --Reinhard Kraasch (talk) 20:35, 26 April 2020 (UTC)
- Does his block extend to the other Wikis or is it limited to Commons? I am asking since he has a global account, and much of his editing on the English Wikipedia comprised adding the copyvios to its article space. Gun Powder Ma (talk) 22:23, 27 April 2020 (UTC)
- The block is limited to Commons, if there are questionable edits in the English Wikipedia, you should address the issue on en:Wikipedia:Administrators'_noticeboard/Incidents. --Reinhard Kraasch (talk) 09:08, 28 April 2020 (UTC)
- I would like to bring to your notice that most of his remaining uploads are still violating Commons policy. The user has invariably designated himself as the "author" of historic images (e.g.). However, the underlying template clearly informs us that " This field should not be used to specify the name of the person who is the scanner, finder, or uploader of the image – these things do not make that person the author!" The user, though, has given these images consistently a CC licensing that indicates himself as their original creator. Gun Powder Ma (talk) 14:26, 29 April 2020 (UTC)
