Adding users to Module:IgenCoa
[edit]Hi JarekT,
After having moved (via igenc id) thousands of files from the root directory to existing users' in here, I eventually looked the source code of Module:IgenCoa;
Do you think that adding a user could be as simple as addig a line in there ?
For an example, inserting:
cvb = { 'I', nil, 'c', 'gf', nil, ':CVB', 'CVB', 'CVB' };
(for user 'CVB' ) - just before the line (59) containing
cy = { 'I', nil, 'c', 'gf', nil, ':Cyygma', 'CY', 'Cyygma' };
…might be an interesting try…
What do you think?

- @Kontributor 2K: I added the line, please verify if it works or not. I personally think it is crazy that a LUA code has some per user logic in it, especially related to categories. In the past such categories were very hard to work with resulting in people just removing templates adding them, so I do not like Module:IgenCoa much, but that is what we have. Ideally , moving files to categories should be done by cat-a-lot. --Jarekt (talk) 13:02, 18 October 2024 (UTC)
- I have verified, it works, shows the user name and categorizes in right folders
- (I was writing a draft about a minor issue on 1 user)
- If you're ok, I'll work on a relevant user list,

@Jarekt: ok I'm done for now, the sandbox may be applied to the module,
If you please --Kontributor 2K (talk) 10:27, 19 October 2024 (UTC)

- Hi JarekT,
- I'm requiring a module update, only for there's a duplicate user id… now fixed
- Not especially speedy though, -Kontributor 2K (talk) 14:05, 29 October 2024 (UTC)

- Thank you,
- I noticed that the updates made in the sandbox on aug. 17 & 31 2023 had not been applied to the module; this may have happened on other ones. --Kontributor 2K (talk) 10:11, 8 November 2024 (UTC)
- Kontributor 2K, not all changes to sandbox pages are meant to become permanent. I do not know much about aug. 17 & 31 2023 changes, but if you want to look through them and see if any will improve the page and re-add them to the sandbox, I will be happy to update the page again. --Jarekt (talk) 13:23, 8 November 2024 (UTC)
- I've already restored them: id. 'mo' has many not-yet-categorized files, and their files were using the sandbox, as well as id. 'Ki' in the sk CoA Lab; this Lab seems to have been fixed (via some txttb+table.insert + other code), so has been the sl-Lab, whose directory has yet to be created (I'll have a look)
- Anyway, it strongly looks like these updates were meant to be applied to the module. Also, the japanese-Lab was planned but has not yet been coded. --Kontributor 2K (talk) 13:46, 8 November 2024 (UTC)

- Hi JarekT,
- I've added 2 users and done 2 minor updates; if you agree, the module can be safely updated,
- About the layout issue with {{Attribs}} - reminder here - yes it's set to float left, thus the {{Own}} layout is broken… Adding a {{clr}} after the </span> would solve the problem here, but this might be dangerous for it's heavily used. What do you think ?
- --Kontributor 2K (talk) 18:00, 14 November 2024 (UTC)
- I looked at the File:Blason Auzebosc.svg and adding
<br/>
between 2 templates solved the problem in that file. I do not think we should be touching {{Own}} template, but if we can fix {{Attribs}} so it does not interfere with other templates, that would be great. --Jarekt (talk) 15:03, 15 November 2024 (UTC)- ok; we already use a
<br>
on files, but there are too many… The issue is only aestethic, so not important. Maybe setting the {{Own}}<span>
tostyle="float:left"
would be a more regular fix, less hazardous than a<br>
, and in tune with other 2024-updated templates… --Kontributor 2K (talk) 15:21, 15 November 2024 (UTC)

[edit]This month's photo challenge pages should be november, not october? :) RoyZuo (talk) 11:03, 5 November 2024 (UTC)
- RoyZuo, thank you. I fixed it. --Jarekt (talk) 23:38, 5 November 2024 (UTC)
Hi Jarekt, I hope this finds you well. Please could you kindly help me with the above? That category has been changed by an editor from the singular to the plural, but there was only ever one such illuminated address to Collyer. As it stands, the category carries seven photographs of the same single address. Even if there had been multiple illuminated addresses presented to Collyer, it would be confusing to put multiple photographs of multiple addresses in the same category. They would still need to be separated out, and would be most easily differentiated by date. It needs to be reverted to its original category title: Category:Illuminated address to Robert Collyer, 1907.
If the editor concerned really believes that there are potentially other addresses which were presented to Collyer, then they should have created the above category as an overarching category, and retained the singular 1907 category instead of deleting it. I have tried to rectify the situation in different ways, but the system repeatedly confronts me with templates saying that it's impossible. We simply need to undo that edit. The original category was useful, clear, and did no harm whatsoever. Storye book (talk) 21:16, 8 November 2024 (UTC)
- Storye book I am happy to help, but I do not want to start an edit war. So lets discuss it first with the other users: User:OperationSakura6144 and User:Túrelio. It makes sense to me to have a category for 1907 address in Category:Illuminated address to Robert Collyer, 1907, and maybe have Category:Illuminated addresses to Robert Collyer if more addresses are found. OperationSakura6144 and Túrelio can you explain why the change was needed? --Jarekt (talk) 02:12, 9 November 2024 (UTC)
- I am sorry for the wrong edit. I have now moved the category Category:Illuminated addresses to Robert Collyer to Category:Illuminated address to Rev. Robert Collyer after realizing it is about the only one address rather than many addresses. OperationSakura6144 (talk) 03:44, 9 November 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you both for your assistance. It is much appreciated. Storye book (talk) 09:32, 9 November 2024 (UTC)

[edit]Latest tech news from the Wikimedia technical community. Please tell other users about these changes. Not all changes will affect you. Translations are available.
Updates for editors
- On wikis with the Translate extension enabled, users will notice that the FuzzyBot will now automatically create translated versions of categories used on translated pages. [1]
- View all 29 community-submitted tasks that were resolved last week. For example, the submitted task to use the SecurePoll extension for English Wikipedia's special administrator election was resolved on time. [2]
Updates for technical contributors
- In
1.44.0-wmf-2
, the logic of Wikibase functiongetAllStatements
changed to behave likegetBestStatements
. Invoking the function now returns a copy of values which are immutable. [3] - Wikimedia REST API users, such as bot operators and tool maintainers, may be affected by ongoing upgrades. The API will be rerouting some page content endpoints from RESTbase to the newer MediaWiki REST API endpoints. The impacted endpoints include getting page/revision metadata and rendered HTML content. These changes will be available on testwiki later this week, with other projects to follow. This change should not affect existing functionality, but active users of the impacted endpoints should verify behavior on testwiki, and raise any concerns on the related Phabricator ticket.
In depth
- Admins and users of the Wikimedia projects where Automoderator is enabled can now monitor and evaluate important metrics related to Automoderator's actions. This Superset dashboard calculates and aggregates metrics about Automoderator's behaviour on the projects in which it is deployed. Thanks to the Moderator Tools team for this Dashboard; you can visit the documentation page for more information about this work. [4]
Meetings and events
- 21 November 2024 (8:00 UTC & 16:00 UTC) - Community call with Wikimedia Commons volunteers and stakeholders to help prioritize support efforts for 2025-2026 Fiscal Year. The theme of this call is how content should be organised on Wikimedia Commons.
