Round 2 of Picture of the Year 2018 is open!
[edit]Dear Ganímedes,
You are receiving this message because we noticed that you voted in R1 of the 2018 Picture of the Year contest, but not yet in the second round. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2018) to produce a single Picture of the Year.
Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.
There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked.
In the final (and current) round, you may vote for a maximum of three images. The image with the most votes will become the Picture of the Year 2018.
Round 2 will end 17 March 2019, 23:59:59.
Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee 18:04, 16 March 2019 (UTC)
¡Saludos! --Ruthven (msg) 10:44, 21 April 2019 (UTC)

- I think we need to keep this one (File:Benjamin Gordon, entrepreneur.jpg) for the time being since it is in use. So unless there are copyright issues still left untreated in the OTRS process, I wont' mind giving this file an approval. If notability turns out to be questionable later on, i.e. the draft and/or article gets deleted, anyone may still file a formal deletion request at that time. Ticket 2019082610002471
[edit]Hi, I noticed you added OTRS-permission to File:LUCILLE FEREMANS.jpg. The photo is supposed to be a Selfie of art-photographer Feremans, but it comes with a copyright sign of photographer Eddy Stockmans. If Stockmans is indeed the photographer and the one who gave permission, this should be stated more clearly I think. Could you please check? Ronn (talk) 14:30, 29 August 2019 (UTC)
Hi, you confimred OTRS release for this image, but forgot to add a license template. Can you have another look please. --JuTa 16:01, 13 September 2019 (UTC)
Please remember of adding/checking also the license info while adding a permission ticket number to a file. Ankry (talk) 13:05, 15 September 2019 (UTC)
I don't think we even need OTRS for this. The image has a watermark stating that was created with a certain online map software. That page published any maps created with their tool under CC-by-4.0. I have added a link to this licence statement. De728631 (talk) 15:32, 29 September 2019 (UTC)
- Hi, can you please explain me what are issues for accepting File:CLIMATE CHANGE PERFORMANCE INDEX OF VARIOUS COUNTRIES.png, and since the map is created under CC4.0, do we need to submit them for OTRS?--IM3847 (talk) 16:01, 29 September 2019 (UTC)
- @IM3847: Apparently it was you who submitted it to OTRS, so why did you do that? Is Maps Affinity an alternate account of yours? De728631 (talk) 16:11, 29 September 2019 (UTC)
- @De728631: Why would I do that man? I’ve been coordinating with various Instagrammers to release their images on commons, this was one of those cases, may be this Instagrammer forgot to change his mail account while sending it to OTRS request.—IM3847 (talk) 16:25, 29 September 2019 (UTC)
- Well, I just noticed you added the "OTRS pending" tag while somebody else uploaded the file. Anyhow, as I wrote above, imho we don't need OTRS in this particular case. De728631 (talk) 16:37, 29 September 2019 (UTC)
- Per Ganímedes' notice at my talk page I have now asked the Commons:OTRS/Noticeboard for suggestions how to move on. De728631 (talk) 16:59, 29 September 2019 (UTC)

Important message for file movers
[edit]A community discussion has been closed where the consensus was to grant all file movers the suppressredirect
user right. This will allow file movers to not leave behind a redirect when moving files and instead automatically have the original file name deleted. Policy never requires you to suppress the redirect, suppression of redirects is entirely optional.
Possible acceptable uses of this ability:
- To move recently uploaded files with an obvious error in the file name where that error would not be a reasonable redirect. For example: moving "Sheep in a tree.jpg" to "Squirrel in a tree.jpg" when the image does in fact depict a squirrel.
- To perform file name swaps.
- When the original file name contains vandalism. (File renaming criterion #5)
Please note, this ability should be used only in certain circumstances and only if you are absolutely sure that it is not going to break the display of the file on any project. Redirects should never be suppressed if the file is in use on any project. When in doubt, leave a redirect. If you forget to suppress the redirect in case of file name vandalism or you are not fully certain if the original file name is actually vandalism, leave a redirect and tag the redirect for speedy deletion per G2.
The malicious or reckless breaking of file links via the suppressredirect
user right is considered an abuse of the file mover right and is grounds for immediate revocation of that right. This message serves as both a notice that you have this right and as an official warning. Questions regarding this right should be directed to administrators. --Majora (talk) 21:35, 7 November 2019 (UTC)

Hi. I see you have kept the file which "can be found on Jan Howard's official website" surely because Jan Howard send you a permission via OTRS, as she does for another most recent picture of her. But this image is not her own, first because she is unlikely to be the photographer and second because it has been issued by Decca Records, now a subsidiary of Universal Music Group and it's unlikely that this company replied to OTRS so fast. Then may you double-check the permission? Thanks, --Patrick Rogel (talk) 13:29, 26 March 2020 (UTC)

Note
[edit]Hi,
I see you mentioning notes made by agents within the OTRS system several times, and as you can see this is not received well. If notes are being made, they most of the time are simple notes on where to find, or what a line of thought was when replying to the contact. It is not beneficial to mention these online, because you are creating an unnecessary air of secrecy around the OTRS procedure. And this makes others distrust us, so please try not to refer to the notes made.
Best, Ciell (talk) 08:23, 10 August 2020 (UTC)
Thanks for the advice, but please note that it wasn't me who mention the comment, and it was me who says that wasn't right. --Ganímedes (talk) 10:01, 10 August 2020 (UTC)
- Hi, yes I saw that, but I concisely did not address his comment about this, and it was not the only topic in which you seem to make things more secretive then they have to be. I'm just warning you about the impact of your words could have on users. I can see you're not a native speaker (same as me), and sometimes it seems a bit of a cultural difference more that a pure language thing.
- No angry words here, just a friendly hint. Ciell (talk) 18:23, 10 August 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks, but I think it's completely unnecessary. I've got some time here and I'm quite active in OTRS, and you can see how many times I speak about this and in which circumstances. In the other threat, the user (who's not the customer and not the CR holder) requested more and more information about the talk between the customer and the agent (who wasn't me). I don't know in your country, but in Wikipedia in Spanish some users have been blocked because of made public talks in IRC or email. It's like to read other people's mail. Another agent's suggested him to join the conversation by email. End of story. Now, I think one of these problems (the first at least) should not exist without this comment, that really confused the customer. Regards. --Ganímedes (talk) 21:27, 10 August 2020 (UTC)
- Hi Ganímedes, I actually notice you're spending quite the amount of time in OTRS, and on the OTRS Noticeboard, and I appreciate your efforts and your quick replies to questions. I know you're not the only one in the threads there to mention the agents-notes function of OTRS, but because you are highly active, I thought it correct to warn you about the example you are setting and the idea of secrecy that it reinforces. Ciell (talk) 20:22, 12 August 2020 (UTC)

Saludos. [edit]@Ganímedes: I wanted to thank you for your help with the OTRS permission procedure. It was the first time for me to upload pictures this way and I was really worried to make mistakes. I also had a bit of a bad conscience to ask for permission with so many pictures, but they were needed so badly on Wikipedia and I hope, they will be of good use.
I'd like to forward a question from the Help desk to you:
I used 9 of the 60 pictures in this WP article, which is nominated for featured list, and I'd like to upload those pictures in better quality with color corrections and AI upscale. If I got it right, I have to upload them with the {{subst:OP}} template and send a mail to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org with my request and the new file names. Is that doable? Borrado Telar_antiguo_para_confeccionar_espolines.jpg
Round 1 of Picture of the Year 2022 voting is open!
[edit]Read this message in your language
Dear Wikimedian,
Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2022 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the seventeenth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2022) to produce a single Picture of the Year.
Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.
For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topical categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you may vote for as many images as you like. The top 30 overall and the two most popular images in each category will continue to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just three images to become the Picture of the Year.
Round 1 will end on UTC.
Thanks,

Thank you for the VRT permissions ticket applied despite the uploader's 'ocean of excuses'. What are your feelings about whether the quality of the (now free to use) image meets our needs and standards? I'm hesitant to offer it for deletion myself since the uploader finds my offering their uploads for deletion unpalatable. 🇺🇦 Timtrent 🇺🇦 talk to me 🇺🇦 11:01, 23 April 2023 (UTC)

Fabrizio Romano
[edit]Hello. I'm just curious, what did you mean here?
Sorry if this is repetitive, but let me explain: I quite litterally told Fabrizio Romano what to copy and paste in the initial email. Here is what I told him to send:
"Hello,
I hereby affirm that I, Fabrizio Romano, am the creator and/or sole owner of the exclusive copyright of the following media work:
* https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Fabrizio_Romano_2021.jpg
I agree to publish the above-mentioned work under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International.
I acknowledge that by doing so I grant anyone the right to use the work, even in a commercial product or otherwise, and to modify it according to their needs, provided that they abide by the terms of the license and any other applicable laws.
I am aware that the copyright holder always retains ownership of the copyright as well as the right to be attributed in accordance with the license chosen. Modifications others make to the work will not be claimed to have been made by the copyright holder.
I acknowledge that I cannot withdraw this agreement, and that the content may or may not be kept permanently on a Wikimedia project.
Please note that the work mentioned above was deleted per discussion here, and will need to be restored:
* https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Deletion_requests/File:Fabrizio_Romano_2021_(cropped).jpg
Fabrizio Romano
2024-01-25"
That is precisely what I told him to send to permissions-commons at wikimedia.org. I'm just trying to understand. Why was this not a valid permission? How can you prove that he didn't take an image of himself by himself? Unless he sent something different, I feel like this should be enough to get the image back up. Please ping. Paul Vaurie (talk) 18:30, 29 January 2024 (UTC)
- Also, I take it that you either know who Valeria Domínguez is, or you are that person? Paul Vaurie (talk) 18:32, 29 January 2024 (UTC)
- @Paul Vaurie: "creator and/or sole owner of the exclusive copyright" - that's the photographer, not the subject, as I said over and over. Really, it's not so complicated. I can't answer the last question. There is a reason why we've got a confidentiality contract as VRT agents. --Ganímedes (talk) 19:07, 29 January 2024 (UTC)
- @Ganímedes: I understand. But how exactly are you going to prove that Fabrizio Romano didn't take that picture himself? Have you never heard of technology that delays photos? In that case, he would be both the photographer and the subject. How are you going to be able to deny this, as it is entirely plausible? Paul Vaurie (talk) 19:20, 29 January 2024 (UTC)
- @Paul Vaurie: Please continue in the ticket instead of spreading the conversation over multiple pages, with a lot of people. It's very hard to follow the thread in this way. --Ganímedes (talk) 19:22, 29 January 2024 (UTC)
- Sorry. When you say ticket, do you mean in the VRT noticeboard, or through email? Paul Vaurie (talk) 19:38, 29 January 2024 (UTC)
- Obviously in the email.

- No tengo instagram tampoco. Lo siento. Saludos.
Mussklprozz (talk) 16:34, 4 March 2024 (UTC)
File:Haumea brilla con hielo cristalino.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.
If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues. |

This enquiry is solely about the file named above, and not about the photo of the family fish shop. (Previous discussions seemed to muddle the two files, making things very confusing.)
At Commons:Deletion requests/File:Portrait of John Craske.jpg, you wrote:
- … we've received Ticket:2024050110003253 regarding File:Portrait of John Craske.jpg and File:The Craske family fish shop.jpg. … IMHO, only the first one it's acceptable, with or without frame ….
It seems that there was no reason for this file to be deleted. Can you clarify this? Brianjd (talk) 12:15, 3 June 2024 (UTC)
- I agree with you Brianjd. It is illogical. If the file is in the public domain then it should be allowed to stay her on Wikimedia. CarolynCo (talk) 17:52, 9 June 2024 (UTC)
Help
[edit]I saw you mentioned me on notice board. Sorry for my behavior, My Wikipedia global username has been changed yesterday so I am changing my uploads authorship manually. All files is uploaded by me and author is myself. Those pictures were also captured by myself. I have also sent severals emails for my uploads copyright permission. So, please pardon my behavior. Lahsim Niasoh (talk) 13:44, 28 June 2024 (UTC)
- Also I have sent those permission mail before my username has been changed (https://commons.m.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=User:Lahsim_Niasoh&diff=prev&oldid=889314587). So I just manually renamed username to my files authorship that is actually me. Lahsim Niasoh (talk) 13:53, 28 June 2024 (UTC)
- I'll answer in your TP. --Ganímedes (talk) 14:29, 30 June 2024 (UTC)
