Abuse filter 153 (crosswiki upload filter)

Resolved

See Commons talk:Abuse filter#Filter 153. Seems like the crosswiki upload filter broke for some reason. We are back to the same problem 3 years ago. pandakekok9 02:13, 18 May 2020 (UTC)

@Pandakekok9: its because all users now have upload_by_url rights and are thus excluded from the filter. --DannyS712 (talk) 03:30, 18 May 2020 (UTC)
Damn, this is why it's very important to test your changes first before applying a change to production. pandakekok9 03:34, 18 May 2020 (UTC)

Request for deletion of .js in my userspace

Hi. Could an admin please delete User:Mdaniels5757/LicenseReviewTest.js per COM:CSD U1 and G7? I would tag it normally, of course, but you can't for JavaScript files. Thanks, --Mdaniels5757 (talk) 18:44, 17 May 2020 (UTC)

Mdaniels5757, like Didym said: You can tag JS pages, too. You just have to comment out this on the page itself (and place it before any commented<nowiki> tag). It will not be visible on the page itself, but in the category for speedy deletions. — Speravir – 00:55, 18 May 2020 (UTC)

Hello,I am writing this thread to apologize for violating the copyright rules while posting three movies posters of god told me to,wizard of oz and Highlander on Wikipedia .Because they prove to complicated to be uploaded because of copyright stuff and I understand that doing this would block me from editing which I understand the consequences and for that I am sorry for what I have done.if you give me another chance I promise I won't upload the pictures on Wikipedia ever again because they are too complicated because the next time if I feel like uploading the posters on Wikipedia I will ask you through email and let you upload them by yourselves. So forgive me for what I have done and I promise I won't repeat the same mistake ever again. --Belrien12 (talk) 16:01, 19 May 2020 (UTC)

Not that difficult. You must stop uploading movie posters as they are almost always non-free and cannot be hosted on Wikimedia Commons. You should also refrain from re-creating previously-deleted files. 4nn1l2 (talk) 05:31, 20 May 2020 (UTC)

I understand and thank you for giving me another chance I will not repeat the same mistake again.--Belrien12 (talk) 05:35, 20 May 2020 (UTC)

File:Cricketer Ricky Ponting and Rianna Pontin (24079181379).jpg

Resolved

I have cropped this image and want to upload it to the following Wikipedia article:

2006 ICC Awards

However, the image itself has been deleted on Commons and is still being used on Wikipedia. Why is that exactly? I would greatly appreciate some help or accurate information that I could use to upload my cropped version of this image. Please don't just ignore this request. — 29cwcst (talk) 00:00, 18 May 2020 (UTC)

29cwcst, I'm confused by your question, since File:Cricketer Ricky Ponting and Rianna Pontin (24079181379).jpg isn't deleted. Could you clarify what you mean? Nyttend (talk) 01:31, 19 May 2020 (UTC)
Comment From what I can gather, the user cropped an existing photo or uploaded a photo of Ponting but then request deletion of said photo. All he needs to do is crop this version and upload it to the article Gbawden (talk) 12:49, 19 May 2020 (UTC)
@Nyttend: Outside of the fact that Commons initially told me this file no longer exists, there seems to be some apprehension regarding the uploads of files that have previously been deleted here. I myself am very confused about the status of this file, but I would still like to upload my cropped version nevertheless. Even though it's not actually my own work, can I upload it regardless? — 2001:8003:4141:CE00:4508:77F1:EDED:4937 02:00, 20 May 2020 (UTC)
@Gbawden: True, but sadly it's just not that simple here. What information can I use to upload the file appropriately and in the right manner, considering it's not actually my own work? If you can't tell me, then I'll simply forgo trying to upload it again. — 2001:8003:4141:CE00:4508:77F1:EDED:4937 02:00, 20 May 2020 (UTC)

Upload big file

Hi I need help to upload a png file of 271 MB. Please contact me for this, thanks. --Goran tek-en (talk) 13:58, 16 May 2020 (UTC)

@Goran tek-en: Per Commons:Maximum file size, this shouldn't be a problem if you use the Upload Wizard which is the standard for uploading files to Commons (just use the "Upload file" link). Have you tried it? Gestumblindi (talk) 14:17, 16 May 2020 (UTC)
Gestumblindi Normally I use this upload place because I can paste all the info from my own "template". I have tried both this and the Upload Wizard and both crash my whole browser as soon as I choose the file. I thought this had to do with the size but maybe I'm wrong. It's just a plain png and I can open it with Gimp so the file is working normally here with me. Don't understand this. --Goran tek-en (talk) 14:52, 16 May 2020 (UTC)
@Goran tek-en: The basic upload form that you use allows a maximum file size of 100 MB, so your file is too big for that. But you should be able to upload it with the Upload Wizard, in theory (up to a file size of 4 GB). You could try it with a different browser? Apparently, it's also possible to request a server-side upload, but this can only be done by system administrators (not to be confused with us "regular" administrators), and per Help:Server-side upload should be requested via a Phabricator ticket. Gestumblindi (talk) 17:52, 16 May 2020 (UTC)
Gestumblindi Thanks for reminding me to try another browser, it help. Sorry for not trying my self, thanks. --Goran tek-en (talk) 19:28, 16 May 2020 (UTC)

Gestumblindi I'm back, now I need to upload a new version of that big file and I'm not allowed to do that and I'm not on the white pages so I can't do that, can you help me, thanks. --Goran tek-en (talk) 18:09, 18 May 2020 (UTC)

@Goran tek-en: It's File:Map of De Vliet by Coenraet Oelensz 1556 SA Delft stitched-BG.png, I suppose? I wouldn't be able to upload a new version of this size over that file the regular way either, as "Upload a new version of this file" is using regular Special:Upload with the 100 MB file size limit. Unless another admin knows a better way, I think that in this case, the easiest way for you would be to upload the new version under a new file name using Upload Wizard, then you can notify me again, and I can delete the old file, resp. move the new upload to the same file name. But I would first wait a bit to see whether someone here knows a better approach. Gestumblindi (talk) 18:33, 18 May 2020 (UTC)
Gestumblindi It's this file Map of De Vliet by Coenraet Oelensz 1556 SA Delft stitched I need to upload a new version of. OK I will wait otherwise I will do as you proposed, thanks. --Goran tek-en (talk) 18:50, 18 May 2020 (UTC)
@Goran tek-en: Have you tried User talk:Rillke/bigChunkedUpload.js? 4nn1l2 (talk) 07:12, 20 May 2020 (UTC)
4nn1l2 Thanks, I tried but I didn't have the permissions to create page your global.js --Goran tek-en (talk) 15:29, 20 May 2020 (UTC)
Goran tek-en, User:Goran tek-en/common.js is enough. Please skip #Global or foreign wiki installation as that is for uploading files to wikis other than Commons (such as svwiki). Please visit File:Map of De Vliet by Coenraet Oelensz 1556 SA Delft stitched.png again. Name of duplicate for large file version

Usually File:Mountain Muhavura(left) and Mountain Gahinga(right).jpg should be tagged as duplicate of File:Mountain Muhavura.jpg, but in this case I think the first name is more appriopriate than the second, cf. file descriptions. An idea create a Video challenge

Hello.

There is a "Photo challenge" ([1]). You could create a "Video challenge".

In few years, on FMA website (archived page here and actually page visible here), there was a video contest aimed, in particular, at promoting the public domain and works under free license.

Question : couldn't we do a similar thing on Wikimedia Commons ? A Video challenge ? It would be great I think in terms of the attractiveness of the site.

Regards.

Bonjour à tous.

Third-party review of a revision deletion

Hi guys, there appears to be a little disagreement between myself and @1989 in relation to a revision deletion he carried out on 16 May, and given there is no recourse other than to ask 1989 to reconsider this action — which I have done privately over a week ago to no success — I would like to ask an uninvolved third-party administrator for a review. nudity on front page

We have currently this file nominated for media of the day Template:Motd/2020-06-02. It will go on the front page in 3 days. In the past I have just replaced random nudity without dicussion. This is a relevant file used in articles. This merits a discussion. What is the policy? @JHenry00: , @Nederlandse Leeuw: . Greetings --Jahobr (talk) 08:36, 30 May 2020 (UTC)

There's no anti-nudity policy on Commons. The video is in scope as it has obvious educational value, being a credible interview with political protestors. In this way it is representative of Wikimedia Commons' content.
If you don't want this on MOTD, it would be more valid to complain that the video is distractingly out of focus, so not the high quality that is normal for MOTD, rather than lobby on anti-nudity or NSFW grounds. -- (talk) 12:25, 30 May 2020 (UTC)
This is a very low quality video, and you are horrified by nipple?
-- Rodrigo Tetsuo Argenton m 12:35, 30 May 2020 (UTC)
  •  Support prohibiting NSFW content on the Main Page per WP:ASTONISH. While Wikimedia projects are not censored, people visit the site at work and children use the site as well, so NSFW content should be confined to places where it is expected to appear. English Wikipedia POTD seems to have a de facto prohibition in place. We have also implemented an optional NSFW filter at COM:FPC, under the grounds that most images nominated are SFW and hence participants want to be able to view the page at work with confidence that they won't be accidentally exposed to inappropriate content. But regardless, this should be removed for its terrible quality. I suggest swapping in an MOTD from a later date. -- King of ♥ 05:43, 31 May 2020 (UTC)
Please avoid turning this discussion in to a vote. AN is not the right place to create a community consensus for MOTD decisions. -- (talk) 07:06, 31 May 2020 (UTC)
en:WP:ASTONISH is an English Wikipedia policy and not directly applicable for Commons. In addition, the mentioned link does not prohibit such content even in English Wikipedia main page. Taivo (talk) 08:18, 31 May 2020 (UTC)
Also, the idea that English Wikipedia has some kind of nudity ban on the main page is just straightforward factually incorrect (although we do try to avoid pornographic images that would trigger filters and get the site blocked in schools, and images that would cause serious potential distress to readers for little benefit such as graphic images of crime scenes); we run things like w:Wikipedia:Today's featured article/February 9, 2016 all the time. I think you're misunderstanding w:Wikipedia:Picture of the day/Unused; it's not a blacklist, but a list of images which don't have an adequate enough article to provide appropriate context—if you look at the history you'll see that when an image does get an appropriate article, it gets taken off that list. To the best of my recollection the only image that would under normal circumstances be expected to appear on the English Wikipedia main page but is blacklisted from doing so is September Morn, and that's owing to a complex set of circumstances which is unlikely to arise very often.iridescent 13:56, 31 May 2020 (UTC)
I fixed your WPFA link. DMacks (talk) 04:48, 1 June 2020 (UTC)
* Should we move this discussion to someplace like Template talk:Motd/2020-06-02 or Commons talk:Media of the day? I don't see the purpose of it here. It doesn't actually require administrators to do anything. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 09:26, 31 May 2020 (UTC)
  •  Comment Every normal child has seen bare breasts of own mother, so solely bare breasts is not a reason to exclude content from Commons main page. Taivo (talk) 08:18, 31 May 2020 (UTC)
  • Can someone point to the actual discussion for nominating it or anything else for MOTD? Are there discussions at all? Commons talk:Media of the day has a single discussion from almost a month ago and the archives are from March. Do we do discussions via the Admin board now? POTD at least requires that it be a featured picture first and that is discussed. Commons:Featured video candidates seems unrelated so maybe we can go to the Village Pump and suggest that be a requirement (for a featured video of the week since there's not that many?) rather than arguing a specific nudity policy instead. We also have 18 featured sounds I think so maybe a monthly one for that as well? -- Ricky81682 (talk) 07:54, 31 May 2020 (UTC)
  •  Comment The only 6 edits by JHenry00 were to blank their user page (so it's not a redlink) and set up four controversial MOTD pages - also see Template:Motd/2020-08-02, Template:Motd/2020-09-02 and Template:Motd/2020-12-02. That is suspicious behaviour. I suggest boldly changing them to better media files. Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 09:10, 31 May 2020 (UTC)
    • I agree. While none of the four are objectionable by themselves (for nudity or content), they share a common anti-Islam theme. Given that bluelinking one's user page and editing MOTD templates are not common newbie edits - and they make up the entirety of JHenry00's global contributions - this is almost certainly a POV-pushing sockpuppet. The videos are certainly in scope, but none have out-of-the-ordinary merit that justifies allowing a sock to place them on the front page. Pi.1415926535 (talk) 05:29, 1 June 2020 (UTC)
  •  Comment Given the context of the video, I don't think there is anything objectionable about it. Yes, in some cultures it may seem inappropriate, but that does not mean it is educational and in scope just like most if not all files on Commons. --Cuatro Remos (nütramyen) 04:44, 1 June 2020 (UTC)

There are different red flags in this discussion:

  1. as the originating account has already gone, there is no action to take forward
  2. the general policy based view is that the naked protest interview video is in scope, but is not of a normal quality expected for MOTD. No specific action to take forward, but nobody is actively defending having it on the MOTD page and there is no policy based rationale to stop any individual from using their initiative to remove it from the MOTD template
  3. it is concerning that the MOTD selection process is very unstructured

I propose that this thread is closed with the outcome to not recommend this video for MOTD on quality grounds and a further recommendation that MOTD would benefit from a community discussion/review of how MOTD selects media as it seems very open to misuse if there is no consensus/selection system, such as an accountable selection panel or a relationship with a "featured video" process similar to featured pictures. -- (talk) 05:44, 1 June 2020 (UTC)

I have been reading those documents, thanks! Regarding the picture above, I do not think it is "realistically useful for an educational purpose" but we can agree to disagree. --Benjen (talk) 13:27, 30 May 2020 (UTC)
So you should spend more time around, before request files to a deletion. -- Rodrigo Tetsuo Argenton m 16:51, 30 May 2020 (UTC)
Hi again, I simply put forward some files that I thought had limited educational value. The worst thing that can happen is that they are kept after a short discussion or improved (like the file you uploaded on London) so no harm done. Having said this, please "assume good faith for the intentions of others"! --Benjen (talk) 19:34, 30 May 2020 (UTC)
Benjen there is a harm, when a volunteer had to spend their time to stop a non valid DR, there is a harm.
Nothing more to add.

File:WATU_Raspberry_diagram.svg

I created this diagram File:WATU_Raspberry_diagram.svg to illustrate an article. I made lots of modifications for it and there are now eight revisions. Could somebody please delete the earlier revisions? Kurzon (talk) 04:53, 2 June 2020 (UTC)

Kurzon, unless there's a legal reason for hiding the revisions, there's no real need to do so. Revs happen, and it could potentially be educational to others to see the steps you took to refine the end product. Thank you for creating that image, btw, the article at en.wiki was an interesting read. Huntster (t @ c) 05:46, 2 June 2020 (UTC)
They're vector images so they take little space, but I just see it as messy. Whatever. Kurzon (talk) 06:18, 2 June 2020 (UTC)

Account merging After a Rename in 2013

Hi, my Former Account Pittigrilli was renamed Years ago to the one With which I am writing here. I would like the contribs of the old one in the current one - at the Moment, I do Not See them. Any help possible? (Excuse typos please). Pittigrilli~commonswiki (talk) 11:32, 2 June 2020 (UTC)

Simple Mass Rename in Category?

I just uploaded a lot of pics to the new Category: „BMW M8 GTE - Close-up Photos“ My Uploader swallowed the placeholding „_“ I added after the year 2019 at the end of each Filename, hence it Now looks like ...2019560089, which is bad. Is it possible to add a blank or an underscore at this Position to each file? Can I do this myself? Pittigrilli~commonswiki (talk) 13:54, 3 June 2020 (UTC)

Thank you, I'm wondering why I couldn't even tag it for deletion. It's not the first time I stumbled upon that behavior. --Achim (talk) 07:26, 4 June 2020 (UTC)
I don't think deletion tagging works in js/css subpages. Did you try deleting it yourself? I don't have any permissions outside the standard sysop set. Pi.1415926535 (talk) 07:37, 4 June 2020 (UTC)
Pi, it's weird. Can you see the history of the deleted User:Gustavo 351/modern.js? Two images deleted from Wikipedia that should be deleted here

These pictures are a magnet for POV pushers and had been already deleted from En.Wikipedia back in 2017.[6]

In order to evade the scrutiny, this time the user has used Commons to upload the copyright violations.

If any admin is reading this request, then kindly delete the both pictures. Aman.kumar.goel (talk) 14:59, 4 June 2020 (UTC)

✓ Images deleted and deletion discussions closed. @Aman.kumar.goel: NPOV and actions on other projects are not really relevant on Commons. Our main concerns here are the following: (1) Are the media file under an acceptable free licence or in public domain? and (2) Are the media files in scope? I've closed the discussions and deleted the images because they were neither under an acceptable free licence or in public domain. However, would the images be in scope. Most likely. Please note, for future reference, that there is currently a huge backlog of several months worth of open DRs that need to be closed, and as such, it is unnecessary to notify admins that DRs that need to be closed. That being said, thank you for the notice, and for your understanding. --Ìch heiss Nat. Redd mìt mìr. 05:31, 5 June 2020 (UTC)

Moving request for an admin

Categorization

I am aware that this is not an issue that requires administrative action (at this stage). However, I simply wish not to reach that stage through edit wars. Category:Church Slavonic language is categorized in a "spam" manner. My simple request is that an admin who is already experienced on categorization clean up this cat and therefore keep an eye on it not to permit an unnecessary overpopulation of parent cats again. I could probably take the cat to discussion but it is not the cat itself which is the issue at hand. Please understand my concerns and one of you treat this categorization, it is really a "simple" request. Nothing to discuss. Thanks. --E4024 (talk) 17:23, 4 June 2020 (UTC)

2001:56A:F9B1:AE00:C98A:6B54:E848:239B changing licences to PD-chart and PD-text

Hello admins,

A user on IP address 2001:56A:F9B1:AE00:C98A:6B54:E848:239B has changed the licences of several files on Commons, despite several showing creative authorship in design and layout. I've left a message to start a discussion on their talk pages before assuming their licences can be speedily changed to public domain. Is that an appropriate action?

Thanks,
cmɢʟee ⋅τaʟκ 01:06, 4 June 2020 (UTC)

@Cmglee: Non-admin here, but I think that is a good approach. If I were you I would also just revert the change (for some of the more complex files that are clearly above the threshold of originality), or add back the CC license in addition to the PD license. 2001:56A:F9B1:AE00:C98A:6B54:E848:239B should never remove a license added by the file's creator, the license may help re-users if the PD rationale is challenged or doesn't apply in their country and it expresses the author's desire to be credited, even if it's not legally necessary. – BMacZero (🗩) 17:03, 5 June 2020 (UTC)
Thanks, @BMacZero: . That's good reasoning. I'll proceed accordingly. Cheers, cmɢʟee ⋅τaʟκ 11:18, 6 June 2020 (UTC)

Deletion request for own doubled file

I uploaded a pic as "Snowboarder during narrow turn while freeriding in deep powder .png" and two hours afterwards a better version, but as a different file with different name. I know overwriting would have been correct, but did not work with my iphone setup.

Can you thus please simply delete/erase the above file? thx, Pittigrilli~commonswiki (talk) 19:57, 4 June 2020 (UTC)

@Pittigrilli~commonswiki: I have actually deleted both files. This photo can be found online without a free licence and without a reference to your Wikimedia account. The blog has a Creative Commons non-commercial non-derivative licence, but such content is not allowed here at Commons. So, if this is your blog, please consider changing the licence for the image at your website, or send a permission by email using the process described at COM:OTRS. De728631 (talk) 20:16, 4 June 2020 (UTC)
Hi, I can understand your decision on the basis of the information you had. However, the whole story is completely different and I provide some proof for this in the following. a) the blog above is not mine, I do not know the guy, and he actually uses MY pic without asking me. It is quite old, about 2001 to 2004, and I had it online for a while years ago, which is probably how he got it. b) Proof for that: Please see my last two uploads showing the same snowboarder in the same ski area. My third-last upload shows the mountains in the background of the deleted pic with the exact same light situation (same occasion/day, the other two pics where ealier but same day). Lastly, these are all scans from paper prints of the analog pics, and they show the same fine structure (e.g. in the sky) as the deleted pic. I can also provide, if the above should not be enough, a pic of the snowboard gloves the guy wears, but this would need some time. And: This is proofably (the cable car on one upload) Axamer Lizum ski area in Austria, 2 h drive from Munich, Germany, where I live and lived then (see my various contribs related thereto). Is it thus likely that I took the pic? yes ;-) . Hope all this is enough to have the deleted file (the jpg, not the png) to be undeleted. Thx, Pittigrilli~commonswiki (talk) 08:28, 6 June 2020 (UTC)
Addition: Could not resist to manage to get hold of a pic of the glove and uploaded this too, it is obviously the same as the boarder in the deleted pic was wearing - see red letters on back of hand and strap zone around wrist area. Further, uploaded one more riding pic of the same snowboarder. Hence, my counting of the "proof uploads" above has to be adapted by these two uploads. In my humble opinion, my plea for undeletion is now bullet-proof ;-) Pittigrilli~commonswiki (talk) 09:31, 6 June 2020 (UTC)
Ok, you have convinced me. this is evidently the same guy as shown in the deleted images, and the metadata are also of the same type. I have therefore restored File:Snowboarder during turn while in deep powder.jpeg. De728631 (talk) 20:48, 6 June 2020 (UTC)
Great to hear. Thanks for that, it is good to see that my argumentation was convincing. Pittigrilli~commonswiki (talk) 21:45, 6 June 2020 (UTC)

Category:Bağlama

A couple of years ago I moved Category:Bağlama to Category:Bağlamas. This, firstly is not consistent with WP items in English, Turkish and several other languages; which are all "Bağlama". OTOH we also have a "Category:Baglamas" and the defaultsort of Category:Bağlamas is exactly "Category:Baglamas"! Therefore I kindly request an admin to revert my stupid move. Thanks in advance. --E4024 (talk) 02:11, 8 June 2020 (UTC)

On English Wikipedia, I blocked user Susenaes indefinitely for evading this block, which was for chronic addition of unsourced material and general disruption/harassment. Now Susenaes has created an account here and is pestering Commons users to upload a likely copyright-violating image to be used in that the Wikipedia page. Pinging User:AlanM1, who notified me about this on en. Ohnoitsjamie (talk) 15:15, 7 June 2020 (UTC)

This is highly disruptive and it has to stop. @Susenaes: Please stop asking other editors to upload images on your behalf. Commons is a cooperative project but the way you are prodding other users to upload non-free images is simply a form of harrassment. If you continue like this, your account will be blocked. You are free to upload images yourself, if – and only if – they come with a free licence on the source page. Otherwise you'll have to accept that you cannot use the desired images. De728631 (talk) 15:31, 7 June 2020 (UTC)
I have now blocked Susenaes for a week because they continued to spam other user's talk pages with their requests. De728631 (talk) 16:09, 8 June 2020 (UTC)

Admin with JS knowledge: massrename script

Could an admin with Javascript knowledge look at this, please? I just used the script User:Perhelion/massrename.js after a longer period. Unfortunately Perhelion is inactive for more than 6 months, now. In the meantime file movers can decide whether to leave redirects or not, but in the script this was disabled. Moreover, in the past the default was to leave a redirect, now it is the opposite. I searched in the script and found this:

// Option to not leave a redirect behind, MediaWiki default does leave one behind
// Just like movetalk, an empty parameter sets it to true (true to not leave a redirect behind)
if (!AQD.wpLeaveRedirect)
	moveArgs.noredirect = true;

So, I thought by adding AQD.wpLeaveRedirect = true; into my common.js before the script loading I would ensure that redirects wouldn’t be deleted, but his seems to be rated as error, because the script stopped working with this entry. I double checked by removing the line, again, that the failure was caused by its addition. One thing I noticed: At the script beginning there is an empty variable defined, var AQD;; in other scripts of Perhelion with AQD usages there is at the start something like var AQD = window.AjaxQuickDelete;. On the other hand: Now, on writing this I noticed this

// 8
	message: this.i18n.leaveRedirect,
	// prefill: true,
	returnvalue: 'wpLeaveRedirect',
	type: 'checkbox'
if (this.inUse || this.userRights === 'filemover')
	$('#AjaxQuestion8').prop('disabled', true);

I’d be happy if someone could fix this for filemovers. — Speravir – 23:42, 8 June 2020 (UTC)

Moreover, in the past the default was to leave a redirect, now it is the opposite. That's not the case at all. Redirects should be left after filemoves unless there is a compelling reason not to (i.e, the old filename included a slur, the old filename is needed for another file, etc). Pi.1415926535 (talk) 00:31, 9 June 2020 (UTC)
Oh, it is! For me. And I cannot reenable it! That’s why I started to ask here. — Speravir – 01:49, 9 June 2020 (UTC)
Commons:File renaming states that Please note, this ability should be used only in certain circumstances and only if you are absolutely sure that it is not going to break the display of the file on any project... When in doubt, leave a redirect... The malicious or reckless breaking of file links via the suppressredirect user right is considered an abuse of the file mover right and is grounds for immediate revocation of that right. Pi.1415926535 (talk) 02:05, 9 June 2020 (UTC)
(Trying hard not to get unfriendly:) THAT’S THE REASON WHY I ASK! I want that leaving redirects is the default, but it must be possible to move without redirects. — Speravir – 17:56, 9 June 2020 (UTC)

Watermark deletion and own file history deletion

I'd like to bring your attention to these two files: File:HAVE HEARTFinalTour,TheOnlyFloridaDate.jpg and File:HAVEHEART,ENDOFTHEWORLDTOURJACKSONVILLEFL.jpg As you can see from the image history, both files were originally uploaded with a watermark. I have since cropped this out (though the first time with both I accidentally reduced the overall dimensions as well, so had to do it a second time). I thought you might like to delete the version with the watermark, and possibly the first cropped out version as well since it serves no purpose.

Also would you be able to delete all but the most recent versions of both these images I uploaded? File:Portrait by Damien Linnane 4.png and File:Portrait by Damien Linnane 5.png. At the time I was unaware you were not supposed to essentially 'replace' an old image with a completely different one; rest assured I will not do this again. However the fact remains I want the original images to be removed; the subjects of my art told me they preferred the images of their likeness to not be online. I have since made the habit of asking for permission first. So if for any reason you cannot delete just the older versions, can you delete the entire file so I can upload the most recent one from scratch under the same file name? Thanks. Damien Linnane (talk) 13:11, 10 June 2020 (UTC)

Though we dislike visible watermarks (for usability), when considering removal of watermarks, one should always take into account this: Commons:Watermarks#Legal_issues_with_the_removal_of_watermarks. --Túrelio (talk) 13:46, 10 June 2020 (UTC)
@Túrelio: Oh, well, that's something new I learnt today. Now I'm a little worried. Do you think deleting my new versions would be a god idea then? You are most welcome to do so. Damien Linnane (talk) 14:57, 10 June 2020 (UTC)
I have deleted the old versions as requested. No reason to delete the watermarked version of the images. -mattbuck (Talk) 14:04, 10 June 2020 (UTC)

My edit also reverted the useful bot contribution. Please take the file back to its original form (number plate beginning with 34). Thanks in advance. --E4024 (talk) 17:58, 10 June 2020 (UTC)

  • ✓ Done I have reverted the upload. You can do that yourself, too. However, you don't use the edit history but have to go to the "File history" (Dosya geçmişi) section where the uploads are shown. There is a link that lets you "revert" to a previous version of the image. De728631 (talk) 21:52, 10 June 2020 (UTC)

Mass Replacement of a Picture across multiple Language Wikipedias

"Colourful" and weird original pic, used in at least 10 Wikipedias
ny derivative version, from 2010 but only used in 2 Wikipedias

I would like to have the original version replaced by mine (white background) in all the Wikipedia articles with other languages. By hand, this is close to impossible resp. would take an enormous time (e.g. Farsi is one of the languages which has a different alphabet). One option would be to load the new version over the original file - however, I was told here very recently that this method is no longer seen as best pratice here, if I got it right.

--> Please advise what to do or solve directly without any action from my side.

Thx, Pittigrilli~commonswiki (talk) 10:00, 9 June 2020 (UTC)

Question, but why was this done? It's not our place to editorialise other wikis - if they want the colourful version they should have it. -mattbuck (Talk) 14:06, 10 June 2020 (UTC)
Mattbuck, see it service for the user who asked. So, instead going to every wiki and changing the file by hand it was done by a script. — Speravir – 17:16, 11 June 2020 (UTC)
I see that, but it feels like editorialising to me - if those projects made the initial decision to put the colourful image in, they should be the ones to change it. -mattbuck (Talk) 18:13, 11 June 2020 (UTC)

Why were the photos on Puppets Against AIDS deleted?

I'd appreciate it if an administrator would repost the photos previously posted to Puppets Against AIDS. They were inappropriately deleted, as a living relative of the photographer's heir had submitted approval to use the photos under the Creative Commons license and the approval had been accepted by Wikimedia Commons. The photos, under copyright by Gary Friedman (who also approved their use and submitted written documentation) added a lot to the entry--and it took over a month of back and forth between different parties to make sure the correct paper work was submitted. User:Qiushufang's files in DR

Today I stumbled upon this user User:Qiushufang. Many files were DR-ed by User:Gun Powder Ma for vague rationales even though the problems are not serious enough for DR. The worse thing is, Gun Powder Ma opened separate DRs for each file, making closure painstaking.

I'll go through the currently open ones and write down the ones to close. Could admins please help?

First off, all files in Category:Binglu should be kept because they are illustrations from 1606 book zh:兵錄. The book title Binglu is in the file titles, the wikitext (the cat) and visible in the images! There's absolutely no reason to DR this batch in the first place.

special:search/deepcat:"Binglu" delete published before 1700. 6 files.--Roy17 (talk) 14:17, 27 May 2020 (UTC)

  1. All the illustrations from Category:Soldiers of Ming such as File:Breakoutc.jpg are from 守圉全書, published before 1700. special:search/deepcat:"Soldiers of Ming" delete ~30 files.
  2. special:search/deepcat:"Wujing Zongyao" delete in 1044. 12 files.
  3. special:search/deepcat:"Wubei Yaolue" delete before 1700. 6 files.
  4. special:search/deepcat:"Wubei Zhi" delete in 1621. 15 files.

I just finished going thru all the DRs. You have a gadget that can close one request by a few clicks. I would have to edit two pages by hand. :/ Could you please keep all of the aforementioned ones?--Roy17 (talk) 22:52, 28 May 2020 (UTC)

I used the "Nominate for deletion" button to the left that is there; I only later realized that there are, apparently, extra tools that could mark images batchwise. But the structure is straightforward, I gave three different rationales for deletion:
In all those cases where User:Qiushufang named himself as "the author", he makes a claim on the authorship. This means that if he had, say, uploaded File:Mona Lisa.jpg, Commons would credit Qiushufang with the world's most famous painting, not Leonardo da Vinci....! If this is not considered a very serious problem by Commons, then perhaps Commons is not serious enough at all about licensing, but as it is it is very clear about the specifications needed: "This field should not be used to specify the name of the person who is the scanner, finder, or uploader of the image – these things do not make that person the author." Gun Powder Ma (talk) 08:08, 28 May 2020 (UTC)
That may be the case, but it is a problem that can be solved by simply editing the file description. There is no need to nominate images of an obviously out-of-copyright book for deletion if there are deficiencies in its file description. -- King of ♥ 13:23, 28 May 2020 (UTC)
Editing the file description to what? "Obviously out-of-copyright" is no sorting category in Commons. Either it is or it isn't it, and in the latter case we need to give the name of the author even if it is an anonymous. As of now User:Qiushufang claims to be the author of hundreds of historic images of which he isn't. Gun Powder Ma (talk) 18:26, 3 June 2020 (UTC)
As long as the work is verifiably from before 1900, {{PD-old-assumed}} applies even if no other information about it can be found. -- King of ♥ 15:59, 12 June 2020 (UTC)

Can sysops please close the listed DRs? Each search key is the title of the book in pinyin. They were evidently published before 1700.--Roy17 (talk) 22:58, 1 June 2020 (UTC)

Oppose. This file you list, for example, still lists Qiushufang incorrectly as author. Additionally, pinyin can be pretty ambiguous, particularly without the tones. Why not, like in those cases, adding the title in Chinese characters plus the web link from where the images where taken from, or at least a link to the WP.EN article? This would give some orientation to the vast number of users who have no command of Chinese. Commons:Essential information even seems to require the date on top of that. Gun Powder Ma (talk) 18:26, 3 June 2020 (UTC)
  • Right now, I’m replacing "|author=[[User:Qiushufang|Qiushufang]]" with "|author={{author|unknown}}" and "{{self|cc-by-sa-4.0}}" with "{{PD-old}}" where appropriate in files uploaded by Qiushufang. This can be done by any user and the input of those knowledgeable about the depicted subjects is especially sought. However something else needs to be done by admins:
  1. Scrutinize with great care all previous DRs affecting Qiushufang’s uploads.
  2. Block Gun Powder Ma to avoid further disruptive DR sprees.

For some unfathomable reason, my simple picture File:Waehlscheibe-kurzwahlnummern.jpg seems to be unusually prone to caption vandalism (unexplained removal of captions and/or adding English captions to other languages etc.), see the version history. Courtesy notification and a request for admin expertise to prevent issues...

@: (Some issues came up in respect of the IA mirroring I felt I needed admin expertise on.)

The background to this is a proposal that certain "public domain works hosted on IA" are mirrored on Commons:- Commons:Village pump/Proposals#Mass "Evacuation" copy of Public domain resources from Internet Archive to Commons.

User:Fæ very helpfully started to run an upload script, and is currently batch uploading a lot of material from IA to Commons. This effort is appreciated, and should be encouraged. However, as stated in the Proposal, I am opposed to Commons having a 'hidden' archive of potential copyvios.

Hence two threads elsewhere on the Comons Village Pump, concernign certain aspects of the effort:- Commons:Village pump/Copyright#US Naval Postgraduate School - Thesis Submissions., & by extension other FEDLINK works.. Commons:Village pump/Copyright#Clarifcation: re Category:FEDLINK - United States Federal Collection and subcategories..

Having re-read some response's to related DR's I've struck out a portion of one of these as being too strongly worded. However I still have concerns that the effort may be inadvertently be uploading a small minority of items that might potentially be incompatible with Commons, because certain highly specific nuances of copyright rules may not be fully determinable, based on available meta-data, or my own understanding. The uploader of the items to the relevant categories is a highly respected expert contributor here on Commons, and I am feeling out of my depth. I'd like some admins to assist this effort, before a "burn-out" on my part occurs. ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 17:45, 26 June 2020 (UTC) - Original Amended 17:56, 26 June 2020 (UTC)

It would be good to have exemplar DRs that we can then decide what to do with other cases; such exemplars can be noted on the project page (User talk:Fæ/CCE volumes). E.g. if a document marked as a thesis from the Naval Academy is agreed as a copyright problem, we can roll the rest up into one DR or put them in a sub-cat to discuss further. Generally the PD "hit rate" is very high, and these cases seem debatable rather than copyvios, so nothing here that cannot be handled as housekeeping post-upload rather than a stop on the project.
Happy to tweak some command line instructions for Faebot to slowly churn through, if the numbers are large enough to warrant the effort, especially for very large bucket categories. Thanks -- (talk) 18:16, 26 June 2020 (UTC)

Hi. Please check Category:Audiovisual Communicators, Inc. as well. This category contains most of the hoax radio station logos Bertrand101 have uploaded. Found these socks as well:
A bunch of hoax material is also uploaded via the User:DZII Tarlac account. -WayKurat (talk) 09:00, 28 June 2020 (UTC)
OK, now 31 sockpuppets are identified and blocked, more hoaxes detected and deleted. But some of these radio stations are probably real, at least they have articles in Wikipedias. Taivo (talk) 09:20, 28 June 2020 (UTC)
Actually they are also fake. Audiovisual Communicators is only operating on the FM band in the Philippines. They do not have a single AM radio station here. (see reference here) What's listed in Category:Audiovisual Communicators, Inc. are fake AM radio stations. This is included in Bertrand101's LTA report in en.wiki. All of the logos he uploaded here are based on fake radio stations. Plus, they are crudely created. -WayKurat (talk) 09:27, 28 June 2020 (UTC)

Sockpuppets on the Somali project.

Bringing the attention of Commons admins to disruption caused by single-issue throwaway socking accounts involved in drive-by editing of all Somalia-related maps on Commons to add out of scope POV content. I probably missed a few, but so far we have:

Category:Línea Barca d’Alva-La Fuente de San Esteban\Linha Internacional de Barca d’Alva a La Fregeneda e a Salamanca

The user Tm is changing a lot the name of this category, creating a lot of redirecting categories because he wants to include the Portuguese name, which he don't even know exactly. I think it'd be better off to select a neutral name in English, given that it affects two countries, like "International railway line between Barca d'Alva-La Fregeneda and La Fuente de San Esteban" because having both names in Spanish and Portuguese gives us a too large name. He did the same with Category:Ponte Internacional do Rio Águeda\Puente Internacional del Río Águeda, but I think it could be acceptable because the name is not that large. The user was already advised against conducting the changes he intented in the Wikipedia in Portuguese.

The list of all the names he wants to maintain. I think it'd be good deleting them:

Category:Línea internacional La Fuente de San Esteban-La Fregeneda-Barca d'Alva\Linha internacional de Barca d'Alva-La Fregeneda a La Fuente de San Esteban

Category:Línea Pocinho-La Fuente de San Esteban\Linha Internacional de Barca d’Alva a La Fregeneda e a Salamanca

Category:Linha Internacional de Pocinho a La Fuente de San Esteban

Category:Pocinho-La Fuente de San Esteban Line

Category:Railway line between Barca d'Alva and La Fuente de San Esteban

Category:Linha Internacional de Barca d’Alva a La Fregeneda e a Salamanca

Category:International railway line between Barca d'Alva-La Fregeneda and La Fuente de San Esteban

--Lojwe (talk) 11:44, 4 July 2020 (UTC)

You were also "already advised against conducting the changes he intented in the Wikipedia in Portuguese" and you were the one that started this all mess with your moves not only changing the language of the category but also the nomenclature of this line (like you did on ES Wikipedia) without any discussion and was is constantly moving this category and the article in PT Wikipedia and ES Wikipedia, albeit what sources state and what others have said that the line was constructed with portuguese money and initiative, that it can be considered as valid this line starting in Pocinho as in Barca de Alvana , yet you refuse to knowledge that this facts are as valid as others like others said in , you not satisfied in making any concession you . You are the one that continuously refuses to arrive at any solution of comprimisse, making moves even after i opened pages of discussion, making constant moves that create a lot of redirects. Your last actions in Wikidata erasing alternative names shows that you do not accept any kind of comprimisse and agreement, only trying to impose your version. Tm (talk) 11:56, 4 July 2020 (UTC)

He's lying. You all can read the discussion in https://pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Discuss%C3%A3o:Linha_internacional_de_Barca_d%27Alva-La_Fregeneda_a_La_Fuente_de_San_Esteban. I don't understand why certain people act like this in Wikipedia. They make everything so hard... it's exhausting. --Lojwe (talk) 12:12, 4 July 2020 (UTC)

Yes, link again that discussion that i linked above and please anyone read the discussion and anyone can see i was the one that opened that discussion, that the warnings were made to both, that you almost never discussed what was in question, that i was the one that called the other users that made a previous statement that they know more than you or me and that i would defer to their knowledge, that they said that both names were valid. And also read to see what are the methods of this user by changing text without presenting any references, like he did in this case. Tm (talk) 12:24, 4 July 2020 (UTC)

PD-self might not be true, see also the reference to "Colecția Spiridon Manoliu", i.e. personal photo collection. Owning a photo does not make you own its copyright. Ioana Oltes was born in 1927 and she appears to be in her twenties in this portrait, so it's unlikely that the original uploader is the photographer. The names don't match either: Spiridon Manoliu vs. Spiridon Ion Cepleanu. De728631 (talk) 17:08, 5 July 2020 (UTC)
Spiridon Manoliu and Ion Spiridon Cepleanu are one and same person. I requested that a written permission should be sent to OTRS because there is no proof that the author or copyright holder of the said image agreed to license the file under the given license. The information in the corresponding field of the file description (Permission: PD-self, licență liberă) is rather confusing for the following reasons:
  1. The photo was allegedly taken in 1957, when its subject (Ioana Olteș) was 30 years old. The original uploader (User:Spiridon Ion Cepleanu) is the subject’s son from her second marriage and it is difficult to believe that he was the author of this artistic photo (at what age?).
  2. Whoever might have been the author of this image, it cannot belong to the public domain, since the copyright is in force for 70 years from the author’s death, and our photo has been taken 63 years ago by a (then) living person.
My intention was only to notify the original uploader, who could clarify the situation. However, a written notification was also sent automatically to User:Coagulans, who transferred the file from ro.wikipedia to commons. Even if I didn’t intend it, this may be useful if Coagulans verified the data before transferring the file and found that there was no problem with it.
Thank you all for your kind interventions, but do you think this is the right place to discuss the issue? Is there any need for administrative action here? --Pafsanias (talk) 18:00, 5 July 2020 (UTC)

May this be considered as wheel warring?

NB: The second admin has not only restored those files, but has kept them speedily, without further discussion - [12]. COI? --VLu (talk) 12:48, 5 July 2020 (UTC)
@Ixocactus and Sturm: cause you were also involved. --VLu (talk) 12:51, 5 July 2020 (UTC)
No, I don't think it's wheel warring. Wheel warring is when an administrator uses administrative rights, another administrator reverses the first one's action, and then the first or the third admin reverses the second one's action and restores the first action. Here, however, DarwIn has reversed Érico's action by restoring files deleted by Érico, so it's not wheel warring. Personally speaking, I think taking the matter to COM:UDR in the first place was a better approach. At any rate, I think the wheel war would be to reverse DarwIn's action without discussing it first, so if the restored files are still considered to be OoS, I suggest reopening the DR or, if that proves to be rather difficult, creating another one. Ahmadtalk 12:54, 5 July 2020 (UTC)
Ahmad252, and why don't you suggest DarwIn to revert his keeping decisions, which he did not even mention in his comment, and let this DR stand open for another week or smth? --VLu (talk) 12:59, 5 July 2020 (UTC)
Because then he would be addressing the merits of deletion rather than the mechanics. That's taking sides, which should be deprecated. Rodhullandemu (talk) 13:08, 5 July 2020 (UTC)
I did suggest reopening this DR; I said "I suggest reopening the DR or, if that proves to be rather difficult, creating another one". Ahmadtalk 17:22, 5 July 2020 (UTC)

Though that DR should never have been speedied, as it's very far from an obvious situation, and reversing some sysop actions is current practice and very far from being a wheel war, I did consulted Érico before, and he understood the point, and agreed with the undeletions. So, there's no need for any drama here. To follow technicalities, all the files should be restored, and the DR entirely reopened. I didn't found that necessary, but if you think it's better, then all files should be restored back, and the DR reopened. Some of the files, such as the ones legitimally in use in Wikidata, should never have been deleted, just because some Wikipedia users declared them as "spam", to start with. Each project has its own set of rules and policies, and they shouldn't be used as a tool to interfere with other sister projects.-- Darwin Ahoy! 22:00, 5 July 2020 (UTC)

As an administrator, can you add the border of South Sudan in the protected (because of the previous edit wars due to Crimea) File:Russian Federation (orthographic projection).svg? Change Filename

Hi, I have made a stupid spelling error with one of my uploaded photos.

Instead of "Friedrich-Ebert-Str" it reads "Fridrich-Ebert-Str". It is only linked in two entries and I could change it easily . . .

Simply uploading the photo again does not help, Commons just denies the process for uploading "the same photo".

is there an easy way or do you admins can/must help?

Unusual cat rename/move

Often I deal with cases of newly created categories being made to inherit the contents of an older, synonymous one, which is then marked for deletion: This is usually done by users with little regard for the project’s history and/or no knowledge of how to use the move/rename function. However, I just come across in my watchlist a situation that is the polar opposite of that problem, and while surely more benign, might be problematic on its own: If you look at the history of Category:Unidentified Asterales in Switzerland, you’ll see that it was originally created as Category:Unidentified churches in Marseille, then apparently become an empty cat, and was then renamed by @Arnaud Palastowicz: I fail to see how is this better than ceating a new cat anew and leaving the old cat alone (maybe just turn it into a redirect to whatever is the proper name for that notion?). Is this formally against policy? If not, should policy be amended to cover such cases? -- Tuválkin 02:36, 16 July 2020 (UTC)

Very strange ... Of course, this cannot be encouraged and Arnaud acted wrongly, but in my opinion this is not formally against policies. You can remove the category from your watchlist and recreate a new empty category and add it into your watchlist. As far as it remains the only strange category rename, I do not see reason for sanctions. Everybody is allowed to create policy projects to change situation and prohibit such category renames in the future. Taivo (talk) 11:07, 16 July 2020 (UTC)

FYI

A dumbass got his ass blocked over at en.wiki for making legal threats, but as usual know one though to look closely at his other work and now I see at least one suspect image put here: File:The Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design©.tif (the copyright sign in the name title kind of gives it a away). Can someone take a look at the rest of the users uploads here (if any just to be sure they're copyleft and NOT copyright? It would be appreciated. TomStar81 (Talk) 03:38, 14 July 2020 (UTC)

@TomStar81: A © means copyright and any file licensed with a GFDL or a CC license for example is copyrighted. So there is nothing wrong with a copyright notice like that. Most of the files on Commons are copyrighted. But that does of course not mean its a bad idea to check the uploads :-) --MGA73 (talk) 11:20, 16 July 2020 (UTC)
@TomStar81: Thank you for highlighting this. Their uploads have been deleted. On both files the uploader claimed authorship but on the Chicago Athenaeum article there is a clear attempt to intimidate other users by claiming to be the lawyer for the museum. That means the uploader is definitely not the author of the logos. Green Giant (talk) 00:09, 18 July 2020 (UTC)

https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=File:An_empirical_evaluation_of_a_factor_effects_screening_procedure_for_exploring_complex_simulation_models_(IA_anempiricalevalu109452788).pdf&oldid=433462831

back to my edit here -

https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=File:A_management_proposal_for_determining_the_effects_of_combat_stress_on_the_man-machine_interface_of_complex_information_display_systems_(IA_amanagementpropo1094543737).pdf&oldid=433461160

It would be nice if the edits in that range where I am the current 'top' revision could be rolled back, due to botched attempt at a search and replace to remove a Category, which left rubbish behind.

Thanks.

I could do it manually, but someone with rollback could do it VERY quickly. 22:50, 16 July 2020 (UTC)

Thanks. Next task (and one that should probably be a bot is looking for blank [[Category: ]] entries in wikitext across commons, that's not a priority though.ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 07:55, 17 July 2020 (UTC)
My bot is doing this, but primarily for new uploads. Do you have a list of all affected files? --Schlurcher (talk) 12:34, 17 July 2020 (UTC)
Sadly not. They are likely to be in Category:Academic theses and dissertations of the Naval Postgraduate School though. (which is about 9000 files to check. ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 15:25, 17 July 2020 (UTC)
Is there a way to generate a list of files for cleanup of blank category line using some kind of dump? ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 15:26, 17 July 2020 (UTC)

Deletion of one of my own Pictures of a Leopard Gecko, which i erroneously uploaded as a HUGE (>144 MB) TIF-File.

Hello Dear Administrator,

If it is possible, I would like to have the following Picture/File deleted from my Contributions:

https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:201705276003_Leopardgecko_Snatschi_@_AX.tif

as i erroneously uploaded this huge TIF-Files (>140 MB) of the same Picture which i uploaded as a JPEG-File of same Resolution but under the different filename EUBLEPHARIS-MACULARIUS Leopard-Gecko Leopardgecko 201705276003.jpg

This is neither urgent nor important to me, but the TIF-File just eats up a large chunk of memory space which might be used to a better purpose...

File:Annamie Paul in Toronto Regent Park.jpg

Hi. Yesterday I've requested the undeletion of File:Annamie Paul in Toronto Regent Park.jpg because I've verified ticket:2020071510011007. It was an odd situation because even when the file was deleted, someone put a message on the TP, so there was no file but looks like it was there. Now I'm trying to add the permission and the right license tag (CCBYSA 4.0) but the software don't allow me and only show me the "OTRS pending" template. Can someone take another look? Here MGA73 point to some problem. Is it possible to delete the file and reupload it or upload a new version of it? Could this fix the problem? --Ganímedes (talk) 22:05, 17 July 2020 (UTC)

@Ganímedes: It may have been a glitch in the Matrix. I did a null edit and then cleared the cache. It has allowed me to add an OTRS-Received. Please try to add the PermissionOTRS now and see if it is still giving the same problem. Green Giant (talk) 23:32, 17 July 2020 (UTC)

Please could an administrator reverse the unilateral move of this category to Category:Underboob. There is currently a discussion going on about this style of naming at Commons:Categories for discussion/2020/07/Category:Sideboob, which the mover seems to have ignored despite the consensus being against them so far. FredWalsh (talk) 01:24, 20 July 2020 (UTC)

  • I'll reverse it, but I'm not thrilled the category exists at all. We have way too many objectifying categories about women's bodies. - Jmabel ! talk 02:27, 20 July 2020 (UTC)
Slightly amused to find this discussion. The complainer seems to be oblivious of the fact that the category discussion started "after" the move, as is quite common. Since it did not exist "before" the move, it might have been difficult to "ignore". Also, the amount of good faith shown in complaining without notifying the discussion participants or the mover is staggering. The knee jerk reaction has been quite amusing too. BTW, the discussion is still on. You guys may consider participating and work towards a consensus. Cheers. Aditya (talk) 03:55, 20 July 2020 (UTC)
Semantics will not hide the fact you ignored the discussion when it was against your preference. If you read the first paragraph of the discussion, you will see the nomination refers to similar categories ("I ask the removal of any and every such word in our categorization and personally apologize for this behaviour.") Additionally, the kind of action you took at Special:Diff/434021413 (trying to undo an admin action) is indicative of your unwillingness to consider other opinions. FredWalsh (talk) 08:24, 20 July 2020 (UTC)
Nice. You lied about another editor, used very uncivil language in a discussion, bypassed process, edit warred... and did everything to get what you wanted. While I discussed at every point, followed every advise, didn't revert a single edit of a single editor. Now that you got what you wanted, is it possible for you to be happy now? Or would you keep being like this? The English Wikipedia has a lot of behavioural guidelines to deal with your kind, but unfortunately Commons do not have any of that. Very sad. Remove revisions containing non-free contents

I am requesting removal of the earliest revisions of the following files for containing non-free album cover images, after they were blurred in the newer revisions:

--Wcam (talk) 15:39, 21 July 2020 (UTC)

  • ✓ Done. But please adjust the descriptions...the images are not "of OTRS permission" and the author/source is not WMF. What actually is the image about? It may have come by way of OTRS, but they did not create the content from scratch. DMacks (talk) 16:15, 21 July 2020 (UTC)
Thanks. Per your comment I have removed the author and permission information. I assume that the person who submitted the OTRS ticket did not create the cover arts, and the ticket is not about licensing these cover arts. Pinging the uploader @Temp3600 for clarification. --Wcam (talk) 16:49, 21 July 2020 (UTC)

Can you add the border of South Sudan in the protected (because of the previous edit wars due to Crimea) File:Russian Federation (orthographic projection).svg? This map is widely used, and that is why the current de-jure border with South Sudan needs to be shown. Can you update the map, but still keep the protection? Maphobbyist (talk) 10:17, 22 July 2020 (UTC)

Maphobbyist, you asked this same question here on 16 July. Take this to Commons:Graphic Lab/Map workshop as you have with other map issues, this is not an issue for Administrators. Huntster (t @ c) 10:33, 22 July 2020 (UTC)
Thank you for your recommendation. One question: Could the protected status prove a hinderance to any updates? I do not wish it to be removed because of the edit wars, just updated. Maphobbyist (talk) 15:04, 22 July 2020 (UTC)
If the artist who works on it need permissions changed, they will ask for it. They are experienced in such things there. Huntster (t @ c) 15:48, 22 July 2020 (UTC)

Coat of arms of the Wettin House /Saxony begins with black not with yellow from above

Data of matter

File:Lesser Coat of Arms of the Belgian Congo.svg File:Greater Coat of Arms of the Belgian Congo.svg File:Prince-belgium-1880-label-(notflat).svg File:Arms of the prince Charles of Belgium count of Flanders (before 1921).svg File:Alliance Coat of Arms of King Leopold II and Queen Marie Henriette.svg

Problem by User:Kathisma. He has neither sources nor rules that the coat of arms of Saxony / Wettin House begins with yellow from above. He ist nonstop removing my corrections of those listed file above the text here. My example has been uploaded by the many sources of the Wettin House and province of Saxony (within of Germany; formerly part of the GDR). Even if the Belgians are say that is the true coat of arms the coat of arms of Saxony is a part of it and is definied. He makes a yellow black and a black yellow.

The right version here in heraldic true form without borders around the colors: File:Wappen Freistaat Sachsen von Wettinern & Askanier ohne Kontur.svg

SamsonBVB (talk) 16:26, 24 July 2020 (UTC)

As I have mentionned on u:samsonbvb's talkpage, the Belgian legislation is very explicit :

Article premier.

Royal decree of the 13th july 1880.

(Not fully available online, but you can see snipplets on https://books.google.com/books?id=5XhMAQAAMAAJ&q="les+armes+de+notre+royale+maison")

This definition was kept by the new decree of the 17th june 1910.

The saxonian inescutcheon was dropped in 1921 after ww1 and reintroduced in 2019 :

Nos armes sont de sable, au lion d'or, armé et lampassé de gueules, chargé sur l'épaule d'un écusson burelé d'or et de sable de dix pièces, au crancelin de sinople, brochant en bande sur le tout.

Royal decree of the 12th july 2019.

As for Congo, the law says :

Les armoiries de l’État Indépendant sont blasonnées comme suit: D'azur à la fasce ondée d'argent, accompagnée en chef à dextre d'une étoile à cinq rais d'or, et chargée d'un écu de sable au lion d'or, armé et lampassé de gueules portant sur l'épaule un écusson burelé d'or et de sable de dix pièces au crancelin de sinople posé en bande.

Bulletin Officiel de L’État Indépendant du Congo, October 1886.

So yes, in Belgium and Belgian colonies, the saxonian arms are legally Or and sable. Kathisma (talk) 16:43, 24 July 2020 (UTC)

Here a Belgian newspaper with the "Saxonian" coat of arms and means that you have only one version of that coat of arms! https://archive.ph/NBKBn

SamsonBVB (talk) 16:54, 24 July 2020 (UTC)

Do you actually believe an image from a private newspaper has any relevance compared to a legal text ? Even when images are annexed to a legal text, the text prevails over the images. That's how law works. (the case of the erreoneous annexes of the Luxembourg heraldic law of 1972 is a well-known precedent). Kathisma (talk) 17:26, 24 July 2020 (UTC)

Renaming request for File:Map-Hispanophone World.png to File:Map-Hispanophone World 2000.png

Can you rename the protected File:Map-Hispanophone World.png to File:Map-Hispanophone World 2000.png? This map shows the percentage of Spanish speakers in the United States from the census of the year 2000. the percentages have changed since then. That is why the name needs to reflect the year. Maphobbyist (talk) 07:15, 18 July 2020 (UTC)

  • @Maphobbyist: I'm not against this but: I don't see a consensus for that move established on the talk page, and it seems to draw from various sources in various years. Or is it only the U.S. part that is liable to be time-dependent? Jmabel ! talk 02:37, 20 July 2020 (UTC)
It is only due to the last U.S. census of 2000, that I want the name change, because that was the last update of this file, and has not been updated since. The percentages and numbers in the U.S. have changed significantly in twenty years. That is why this map should become a historic reference. The problem with protcted maps, is that they cannot be updated, and without a name change, they are still unknowingly used as current reference in Wikipedia, even when the data has become obsolete. At least the date in the name should be reflected, when it is no longer updated and is permanently protected. Maphobbyist (talk) 05:07, 22 July 2020 (UTC)
Yes. This data is from the 2000 census, which is also shown in the file. Maphobbyist (talk) 15:00, 22 July 2020 (UTC)

Two files that should switch names with each other

(The following was originally posted to the Help desk, but is being reposted here as I was told that this is a situation that only admins can deal with.)
I found two files which seem to have been incorrectly named. Furthermore, they are misnamed in such a way that they would have been correctly named if they switched names with each other. The files are:

  • File:Bednáreček Flag.jpg
  • File:Bednáreček CoA.jpg

One shows a coat of arms, but has "Flag" in its file name, while the other one actually shows a flag, but instead includes "CoA" (short for coat of arms) as part of the file name. Would someone please take a look at it? —VulpesVulpes42 (talk) 14:06, 27 July 2020 (UTC)

  •  Comment Perhaps there should be a technical limitation in the MediaWiki software to prevent the deletion of files used more than X number of times, just like the deletion of pages with more than 5,000 revisions. This file remained deleted for 31 minutes causing massive amounts of disruption. -- King of ♥ 16:20, 31 July 2020 (UTC)
Asking for confirmation would be nice. In my opinion, deletion might still be needed (for history splitting, for instance), but asking for confirmation prevents accidental deletions. Also, I think CommonsDelinker shouldn't delink such files (if it currently does, that is). Ahmadtalk 04:48, 1 August 2020 (UTC)

CCCC10 uploading copyrighted images

Hi, I'm fairly new to commons so not sure if this is the right venue. CCCC10 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · edit filter log · block user · block log) has been uploading copyrighted images, mainly logos. I've speedy'd a few but am not sure what to do with the user as they don't seem to take a hint that their uploads are being deleted. What's the appropriate course of action in dealing with the user and with their uploads (some of which could be PD-textlogo)? Thanks, M.nelson (talk) 18:56, 31 July 2020 (UTC)

Sorry I wasn’t aware these images were copyrighted. Please delete them if needed. Thanks CCCC10 — Preceding unsigned comment added by CCCC10 (talk • contribs) 21:37, 31 July 2020 (UTC)
Thanks @CCCC10, I guess I should have reached out to you directly first. Could someone advise what the best course is for these files - speedy them all? M.nelson (talk) 22:38, 31 July 2020 (UTC)
I've sifted through the files myself, retagged those which IMO fall under {{PD-textlogo}}, and speedy'd the rest. I think we can call this ✓ Done. M.nelson (talk) 11:25, 1 August 2020 (UTC)

@Bojana Wiki PG and 4nn1l2: I looked at what generates the headers for an UploadWizard campaign and that campaign is located in Campaign:tos-rs (edit source to see the JSON). It uses some logic from {{Trace of Soul is running}} to determine whether it trancludes one of the three templates from Category:Trace of Soul campaign header templates -- before, running, and finished. I tried to clean up a few recent categories that include phrase "First Estonian Republic" in title, e.g. like this, but Tm reverted all related edits without explanation[13]. After having explained my edits further on their talk page, and after having no respose I tried to do the cleanup again, but got reverted by Tm again without any explanation. Now they also reveted my comment, where I explained the issue and where I made further suggestion about these categories. In other words Tm refuses to communicate their edits and ignores explanations by other editors when reverting. How to proceed? 2001:7D0:81F7:B580:885A:3D1D:6ADA:AABA 13:55, 29 July 2020 (UTC)

Perhaps Tm doesn't respect editors who jump IPv6 addresses and have no visible edit histories. Perhaps you forgot to login. Logging in is required before uploading here, please do that. There are also many other reasons to create an account and log in. Also, if you already have an account what is your account name?   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 14:17, 29 July 2020 (UTC)
I understand that uploads require logging. The issue here is with regular edits that don't require logging. Regardless of my IP address changing you can easily check how this issue evolved in related file histories. To me this seems like a conduct issue purely on Tm's side.
Or, if anonymous editing in itself really is enough reason to revert edits, then I believe you should disable anonymous editing altogether. So that it wasn't misleadingly implied that anonymous editing is also welcome ;) 2001:7D0:81F7:B580:885A:3D1D:6ADA:AABA 14:43, 29 July 2020 (UTC)
@Tm: do not use "first Estonian Republic". Such does not exist. You see, there's no wikilinks to other projects. Taivo (talk) 10:25, 30 July 2020 (UTC)
"First Estonian Republic" does exist like in shown in the Estonian Museum of Architecture, the EU website, Union of Free Evangelical and Baptist Churches of Estonia and the Eesti Rahvusringhääling (ERR) – Estonian Public Broadcasting twice. Tm (talk) 10:36, 30 July 2020 (UTC)
Also, to answer Jeff G., i refuse to answer to an user that is hoping almost daily from IP to other IP since at least 2017, always refusing to log in. Tm (talk) 10:43, 30 July 2020 (UTC)
It's a dynamic IP address that changes regardless what my intention is ("hoping" and whatnot). So? I'm quite sure you can't refer to cases where I actually did anything contraversial (like reverting in your manner). In this way what you say is a mere argumentum ad hominem and it doesn't excuse your arrogance.
Phrase "First Estonian Republic" is seldom used, but what it denotes (one of successive republics) is generally considered not to exist. As already commented in your user talk in the first place: use of this phrase is discouraged and if needed then there are more appropriate ways to name this historical period. 2001:7D0:81F7:B580:4558:B3DB:D0FA:71A3 08:43, 31 July 2020 (UTC)
So, after no respose for a couple of days, I tried a different solution, i.e. rename a category (also suggested to Tm in their user talk in the first place). Regretfully Tm reverts again[14], without explanation as usually, and eventhough one more user above disagrees with their categorization. If user is incapable to discuss their edits and bluntly reverts without explanation, then I believe it would be appropriate to restrict their editing access, at least in relation to this topic. 2001:7D0:81F7:B580:8CC5:3C1:1BAE:3FA1 10:05, 3 August 2020 (UTC)

Files for testing

We have some files dedicated for testing. Some I know have simply the name “Test”: Test.gif, Test.pdf, Test.svg. But for JPEG and PNG these are JPG Test.jpg and PNG Test.png. Test.jpg is a redirect I just now have changed to the actual test file. Could someone protect this against accidental overwriting? For Test.png it gets even more complicated: This is in the moment just an example file with a, in my opinion, misleading name. I’d love to rename this to something like Simple shapes example.png and then change the redirect, too. Alas, it is already protected, so could someone of you, please, do this including protecting of the new redirect? — Speravir – 21:40, 6 August 2020 (UTC)

@Speravir: Why do you think that Test.png has a misleading name? If it is supposed to be used for testing then it sounds like a good name. If we are going to rename the test files to what can be seen on the files then would we not get some really ugly names like Test.gif would be Blocks in different sizes and colors with some horizontally and some vertically and the text TEST written across the blocks on the top test image.gif?
And the purpose of a test file is that not that you can upload new versions? There is a big orange notice saying "Be prepared that any image uploaded here might be deleted or overwritten without prior notice." --MGA73 (talk) 22:05, 6 August 2020 (UTC)
So, you have been misleaded already, MGA73. Read the description – Test.png is just an example file, not thought for testing purposes, now. But if PNG Test.png and especially JPG Test.jpg hadn’t been used that much I had actually asked for reverting them into redirects. — Speravir – 22:20, 6 August 2020 (UTC)
Speravir it could also be the description that is misleading ;-) But anyway if the image is supposed only to be used as an example and not for testing (other than the tests you can make by adding the file to some page) then sure lets rename it and perhaps make a Test.png is someone need that. --MGA73 (talk) 22:28, 6 August 2020 (UTC)
MGA73: “then sure lets rename it”, but I cannot not execute this because of the protection level. — Speravir – 22:50, 6 August 2020 (UTC)
Speravir I renamed the file. Once all usage is replaced the redirect can be changed into a file. We might need an admin to fix en.wiki. --MGA73 (talk) 08:20, 7 August 2020 (UTC)
Thank you, MGA73. Enwiki is actually not an issue. The most strange is in the moment slwiki, cf. Special:GlobalUsage/Test.png. I purged some empty pages, though, so maybe the issue is gone in a minute. I changed the redirect, so that Test.png is linking to PNG test.png. — Speravir – 00:29, 8 August 2020 (UTC)
Great Speravir! It was widely used last time I checked but I assumed it just needed a bit time or a purge. --MGA73 (talk) 07:26, 8 August 2020 (UTC)
@Klemen Kocjancic and TadejM: Could one of you either check yourself or ask someone, how to remove the 5 pages in slwiki from the global usage list? These are dummy results, the pages actually do not exist (they seem to be from Commons, instead). I myself already tried to purge and also made zero edits to them, but nothing changes. — Speravir – 19:00, 8 August 2020 (UTC)

Overrule rename

Hi, I renamed a file of which an article is made on the NL-Wikipedia. I also got an e-mail request, but doubted that. After I saw someone else make that article, I was convinced (I thought). Now the original uploader of the file says the name was correct (and proves it with a link), the title of the article can also be used, but is not the original name of the artwork, so I tried to revert it, but I need help from an administrator. The file name now is: File:Gevouwen bootje Suzanne Willems IJburg.jpg and must be (the original name) File:Papieren bootje Suzanne Willems IJburg.jpg, which is a redirect now. Can an admin change that? Thnx in advance! Sincerely, - Richardkiwi (talk) (talk) 13:25, 7 August 2020 (UTC)

I think you could set the official website to deprecated in Wikidata, add the template, then set the official website to normal priority. Although that would mean that no one in the future would be able to edit the Category without removing the template. William Graham (talk) 14:43, 11 August 2020 (UTC)
Never mind, that won't work either because you can't edit the official website property on wikidata because of the spam blocklist. William Graham (talk) 14:46, 11 August 2020 (UTC)

We need some native English speakers who are admins to join a discussion about diagrams versus infographics

Please see:

--Timeshifter (talk) 10:09, 30 July 2020 (UTC)

IMHO native English is not the decisive ability to assess the core of the dispute. Rather, knowledge of the principles of categorization, general knowledge and the ability to think logically. --ŠJů (talk) 10:27, 30 July 2020 (UTC)

(Unindent). You still haven't addressed my main point about file types here or there. Why are you reverting my edits, and putting thousands of COVID-19 maps, tables, and graphs into diagram categories. None of those file types are diagrams.

I can see why non-native English speakers are confused by all the incorrect information on the web. Native English speakers hear the word diagram on the news, at school, in conversation, etc.. Tables, graphs, and maps are not referred to as diagrams in normal conversation, news, classes, etc..

The Wikipedia article on diagrams has references. The version I am looking at today was last edited on July 10, 2020. None of the current references are dictionary references. Most of the references are inaccessible online. The 2 references that are currently accessible online are not used to show that tables, graphs, and maps are diagrams. So the Wikipedia article is incorrect in saying that tables, graphs, and maps are diagrams.

This is an example of this: en:Wikipedia:Wikipedia is not a reliable source.

The major English dictionaries with long histories do not describe tables, graphs, and maps as diagrams:

There seem to be plenty of people involved in that discussion, probably me commenting that I'd call them 'figures' wouldn't help. Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 15:15, 11 August 2020 (UTC)
@Mike Peel: I don't think "figure" would work. See:
https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/figure
I can't see calling a map, table, or graph a figure.
But maps, tables, and graphs are definitely "infographics".
--Timeshifter (talk) 18:12, 11 August 2020 (UTC)
It's the terminology used for images in journal articles - as a scientist, maps and graphs are figures, while tables are separate. Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 18:32, 11 August 2020 (UTC)
@Mike Peel: I think for scientists it is one of those meta terms like illustration and graphic:
https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/illustration
https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/graphic
Whereas information graphic (infographic) has a narrower meaning than graphic. It requires a layer of abstract info. It includes all the following specific items:
Diagram is very specific in its traditional meaning.
Map is very specific.
Table is very specific.
Graph is very specific.
The definition of figure used by scientists is not in common use by laymen. Infographic is more commonly understood.

--Timeshifter (talk) 12:11, 14 August 2020 (UTC)

Responding to the ping request - looks a complex and tricky one! It isn't helped by 'infographics' itself not being an English word, but a recent portmanteau of ill-defined meaning :-) MPF (talk) 13:39, 14 August 2020 (UTC)
@MPF: I am happy with "information graphics" or infographic. Infographic has become an English word. It is now in all the main English dictionaries. I remember when it wasn't. "Information graphics" has been accepted for a longer period of time.
What do you think of {{Diagrams}} being added to diagram categories. I am less concerned with infographics being accepted than I am with the meaning of the word diagram being expanded beyond what the main English dictionaries define it as. Because some editors have been substituting Category:Diagram as an upper category in place of Category:Information graphics, and other similar upper-level categories like Category:Graphics and Category:Illustrations. --Timeshifter (talk) 15:59, 14 August 2020 (UTC)

Nazi barnstar with swastika

I'm not sure this serves additional substantive purpose. Offense was taken. Apology was given. For those unaware, Jerm is probably among the most prolific barnstar producers on the project. They've made at least a few barnstars that I'm not even entirely sure what they're a reference to at all. The images have apparently all been cleaned up, and it does not appear that further administrative action is required or requested at this time. GMGtalk 16:28, 14 August 2020 (UTC)

This file File:NSDAP Barnstar.png contains highly offensive Nazi imagery. I understand the utility of having Nazi imagery on the site to be used in articles. But this is NOT for the use in articles. The author states it is used to give a barnstar to an editor who improves an article related to Nazi Germany. It's intended as an award for editors and the creator states this here [15]. I have no doubt that most editors who might receive this barnstar would be highly offended and in the case of Jewish editors, it could be viewed as a personal attack/harassment. Its use would also always be considered disruptive. Whatever supposed "benefit" might come from this image, its potential for abuse far outweighs. There is no way this is appropriate for use anywhere on Wikipedia and should be deleted before it is used. TimothyBlue (talk) 02:10, 12 August 2020 (UTC)

This imagery, it should be noted, would also be banned in numerous countries. See Template:Nazi symbol. BD2412 T 03:51, 12 August 2020 (UTC)
To their credit, the original author, Jerm (talk · contribs), has made this speedy deletion request. It should be speedily deleted. Mathglot (talk) 10:51, 12 August 2020 (UTC)
@TimothyBlue: I went ahead and just had it speedy deleted along with other potenianlly offensive barnstars. Jerm (talk) 21:21, 12 August 2020 (UTC)
Jerm, thank you, I'm sure your intent was good, but good intentions here could have led to bad results. Thank you again. TimothyBlue (talk) 22:32, 12 August 2020 (UTC)
We usually say that Commons is not censored. If someone greatly improve articles about the nazis and the horrors they are responsible for then I think that is great! I think we should remember the history and not forget or try to hide it just because we don't like it. If someone want to award the user for a great job then barnstars is a good way! If the user do not like the award then they can just say "Thank you but no thank you." Personally I'm not sure I would like it but I think most users are capable of having an opinion on their own. So lets try to keep "someone might get offended"-deletions at a minimum. --MGA73 (talk) 21:32, 13 August 2020 (UTC)
  • I sort of see their intent however if someone for instance improved the EN article penis you wouldn't give them a barnstar in the form of a dick would you ? (unless you knew them and you knew they would take it as a light-hearted joke)... Very silly idea and Jerm should've known this was going to provoke fury!. IMHO Jerm should be warned that future recreations like this will result in a block. –Davey2010Talk 22:10, 13 August 2020 (UTC)
Apparently it's been deleted so I should get over it[16], No Jerm - Having them deleted does not make everything okay!, You had created a Nazi barnstar and a KKK barnstar on the basis of "Oh people working on Nazi-related articles or KKK articles might like them" .... I'm pretty damn sure no one on this planet never mind Commons would want either of these barnstars!.
You ought to be blocked not only for your idiotic idea but also for your reply too. Go and read The Holocaust - You might learn something!. –Davey2010Talk 11:09, 14 August 2020 (UTC)
At this point, you’re unnecessarily dragging an issue that’s already been resolved. For what reason, I don’t know. You’re comment was posted after the file was deleted which means you just want to join in for a good bashing whether the issue was resolved or not. So yeah, get over it, issue resolved, it’s over, I understand, it won’t happen again. Anyways, drop the stick and back slowly away from the horse carcass, happy editing & cheers. Jerm (talk) 12:11, 14 August 2020 (UTC)
Btw, there’s been Nazi barnstars on here for a few years. Jerm (talk) 12:20, 14 August 2020 (UTC)
Don't you think you deserve a good bashing ? I do. I suppose that's what you'd tell a Holocaust survivor ... "get over it".
I've made my point. No point beating you further.
I'm rather amazed as well as sad at the fact those even exist but hey ho. If it weren't for the fact they were widely used everywhere each and every single file would be DR'd right now. Anyway happy editing. –Davey2010Talk 12:35, 14 August 2020 (UTC)
You’re right though, I do deserve a bashing. It was the worst decision I made on Wikipedia. My apologies to everyone. I never wanted to offend anyone. Jerm (talk) 13:30, 14 August 2020 (UTC)
Thank you Jerm, At the time of writing my comment I was completely unaware you'd already had these speedy deleted so credit to you for doing that, You could've quite easily defended these but you didn't so credit to you for that,
Anyway we all make mistakes and we all learn from them.
Thank you for your actions as well as your apology - These go a long way in my books!,
No hard feelings here, Happy editing Jerm, –Davey2010Talk 16:33, 14 August 2020 (UTC)
The 'uncensored' argument above is nonsense and potentially misleading. User talk pages and discussion pages are not Wikipedia articles or hosted historical images.
Should anyone, on any Wikimedia project, add derived forms of Nazi swastikas, KKK symbols, or any other very obvious racist, homophobic or transphobic images to other user talk pages under the guise of it being a "joke" rather than during the legitimate discussion of article or image improvement, then the poster may expect targeted parties to confidentially request an office action for a global ban. Such an action does not have to wait for Commons administrators to publicly review and discuss potential arguments about motivation or logic-chopping project guidelines on-wiki.
"It's your fault for not getting the joke" is a type of obvious excuse for hate speech related harassment that should not be tolerated on our projects.
Thanks -- (talk) 11:59, 14 August 2020 (UTC)
I made these barnstars as a reward for significantly improving that certain subject (Nazi party, kkk). I never said these were jokes. I had them all deleted. It won’t happen again. Jerm (talk) 12:36, 14 August 2020 (UTC)
The comment was with regard to the poor application of 'uncensored' which may be presumed by some onlookers/readers as setting a general precedent, rather than actions of any party. You are a long term Wikimedian in good standing and have clearly done a U-turn and made efforts to put things right. Thanks -- (talk) 16:04, 14 August 2020 (UTC)
