[edit]

Hello, I'd like to know what I can do to make my image acceptable. There are two pages that use it and I don't want to disappoint them. From what you said in the notice, I need to add the author of the medal, but that can only be translated as quoting the organization of the competition. I would therefore appreciate it if you could clarify the matter so that everything is in order. Thank you in advance. Infinityoned15 (talk) 16:07, 20 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The problem with the photos you took is that they're photos of someone else's potentially copyright work. There's more details about this in Commons:Derivative works. If the medals' designs you photographed are eligible for copyright protection, then the person or persons who designed them would be the copyright holders of those design. Commons requires all of the content it hosts either be clearly released under an acceptable free license by its copyright holder or be within the public domain. Your photos, however, consist of two elements (the photo you took and the object you photographed) and you're only the copyright holder of the photos you took unless you're also the person who designed the photographed medals. If you're not the person who designed the medals, the license you used when uploading the photos to Commons only covers your photos themselves; it doesn't apply to the medals you photographed. In cases like this, Commons needs to be sure (or as sure as reasonably possible) about the copyright status of the photographed medals in order to keep these files; if the medals' designs are eligible for copyright protection, Commons can't keep the photos you uploaded without the COM:CONSENT of copyright holders of the medals' designs. What you probably should do is ask about the copyright status of these two medals at COM:VPC if you're unable to find that information yourself. Someone at VPC might be able to help determine whether the medals' designs are eligible for copyright protection. Once that is known, the rest can be sorted out fairly easy. -- Marchjuly (talk) 08:23, 21 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Infinityoned15: One of the files you uploaded is attributed to someone named Júlia Karolyne. If that's the person who took the photo and you're not that person, then you would need to get their COM:CONSENT in addition to the consent of the copyright holder of the medal's design itself. -- Marchjuly (talk) 11:27, 21 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, thank you very much for the information. I'll try to resolve these deadlocks. Infinityoned15

Just an idea...

[edit]

I remember having had discussions with @AFBorchert some time ago about tagging some files with {{No permission since}} and wanted to leave some idea here. Files such as File:Anjanaji.png and File:Sachin Pilot TA.jpg shouldn't be tagged as such. The only reason is that they are blatantly uploaded as "own work" but are not. Regards, Aafi (talk) 12:48, 31 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I have deleted many of their images as clear copyright violations. Regards, Aafi (talk) 12:58, 31 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for checking on these. FWIW, I was just trying to give the uploader a chance to obtain copyright holder permission because many of the photos seem to have come from Facebook, and the uploader seems to be connected to the subject in some way. However, if they files are really copyvios, feel free to re-tag/delete them accordingly. -- Marchjuly (talk) 01:31, 1 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Marchjuly, the fact is that an honest uploader would not claim someone else's work as their own. Perhaps, mistakenly they might attribute it to the subject (in case they have a COI) but claiming own work is blatant copyright violation. Unfortunately, this user has now resorted to en-wiki and is abusing local upload facility. Most of the stuff here has been deleted and some stuff is subject to a DR. Regards, Aafi (talk) 09:26, 1 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Particularly, someone's selfie can't be someone else's own work. See en:File:Arfakhanumm.jpg, a re-upload of what was earlier deleted here. Regards, Aafi (talk) 09:28, 1 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Aafi: Perhaps you could take a look at File:Wacowac0.jpg because it might be a similar file to the ones discussed above. -- Marchjuly (talk) 13:14, 3 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
✓ Done This is gone, both here and on en-wiki. Regards, Aafi (talk) 15:34, 3 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for checking on this. -- Marchjuly (talk) 20:35, 3 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
