Hi. Notmally the reference gor authenticity of Monet's paintings iw the Wildenstein's catalog, but the tatest edistion of the catalog is 1996 , and the forgery was found in 2008. But from museum's dite it seems obvious that this is a forgery (a few articles on the french press also on the subject). So probably we can (we should) change the name of the file and change the categories. --Zen 38 (talk) 17:42, 4 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you Zen 38 for your quick response. Do you have any suggestions? A possible option is to add the file (for a start) to the Category:Art forgery Cheers. Lotje (talk) 05:50, 5 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Glass eel

[edit]

Actually the eel was in a horizontal container :). If you want feel free to edit the file. Etrusko25 (talk) 12:20, 16 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

The file has been cropped in the meantime and I asked for a rotation. cheers. Lotje (talk) 14:04, 16 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, great job. Unfortunately, the image is not perfectly in focus because I took the photo with a phone. I am doing a survey on glass eels, I hope to be able to take better pictures.--Etrusko25 (talk) 06:38, 17 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Etrusko25. Looking forward to your new photographs on this subject. Give me a buzz when you found the "perfect" on, I could replace it on Wiktionary Lotje (talk) 08:24, 17 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
File:Anguilla anguilla glass eel France.jpg Hi Lotje! Take a look at this image which looks really good to me (and I'm afraid I won't be able to take a better picture...).--Etrusko25 (talk) 18:12, 30 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Etrusko25, that is a very good image imo. Thank you so much! I added it to the Wiktionary page Lotje (talk) 06:21, 31 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

King Constantine I (battleship) vs Tenedos

[edit]

In this file

you have added category King Constantine I (battleship), but in the image there is a life preserver with the name TENEDOS in Greek ΤΕΝΕΔΟΣ. Something has gone wrong. Could you, please, check which is correct and make the necessary ammendments.

Greetings

Actia Nicopolis (talk) 10:29, 20 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Actia Nicopolis: thank you for your comment. On the SS Byron is seems ... she was launched as Vasilefs Constantinos, named after Constantine I of Greece. this description states: Former Prime Minister of Greece Dimitrios Gounaris boarding Vasilefs Constantinos in 1917, en route to exile on Corsica. But if in your opinion this information is incorrect, please feel free to adapt it. Cheers. Lotje (talk) 12:09, 20 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Lotje: Thank you Lotje. I tried to find out why it is mentioned that it is King Constantine but with no luck and result. So, I removed the category Vasilefs Konstantinos and added a new one Tenedos (ship) without knowing any more details... Actia Nicopolis (talk) 13:29, 20 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Actia Nicopolis: No problem, City of Victory By the way, since I have you on the oher side of the line, is Nikos D. Karabelas postcard collection, Preveza, Greece. and Nikos Karabelas collection, Preveza, Greece the same person? If the colection belongs to Nikos Karabelas (Q21288160), that seems to be a very nice collection imo. Lotje (talk) 13:35, 20 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Actia Nicopolis: can you take care of this one too? Thanks. Lotje (talk) 13:51, 20 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Correct. All these is the same person.
Are you collecting, too??
Which one Should I take care of?
Kind regards
Nikos Actia Nicopolis (talk) 16:24, 20 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Not really... ah, I like egg cups , but mainly good memories Lotje (talk) 17:20, 20 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Actia Nicopolis: forgot the mention: I meant finding the links/names of the other persons on that ship expulsés de Grèce: Metaxas, Karadja, Mercouris, Gounaris Lotje (talk) 17:28, 20 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Ouaouhhh! This is a nice collection....
So, you have the collector's gene, too !!!
OK, I will add the other categories and links, too, even though I do not think that the legend of the image is correct. It is a usual situation with international magazines of that period. There was no fact-checking at the time!!!! It was impressive that they had the picture, and they did not care too much if it was 100% correct !!!
Have a nice weekend!
From sunny, but cold Preveza
Actia Nicopolis (talk) 07:14, 21 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Actia Nicopolis: you too, have a nice weekend. Hopefully this one and this one are correctly categorized. Lotje (talk) 16:20, 21 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Lotje: You have done a super dooper work with all these scans/photographs! WELL DONE !!!
I have added some more categories in the first one, but the second one is irrelevant to Greece. Am I wrong?
Would love to help further, if you think so.
Best wishes Actia Nicopolis (talk) 09:33, 22 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Actia Nicopolis: thank you so much for adding more categories. The second image is, indeed irrelevant to Greece.. And yes, always glad to get some help Thank you for your kind offer. Very much appreciated. Lotje (talk) 12:03, 22 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Lotje: Please, do not hesitate to ask. Do you live in Holland permanantly? Actia Nicopolis (talk) 15:16, 22 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Shhhhhh

Spliting or merging files

[edit]

@Lotje: Hello grom Greece! I would like your help, as I see that you are very experienced with commons. Do you know how the split template {{Split}} works? Is it the correct template to use if in a commons-file there are two versions but the older one needs to be removed? Thanks in advance Nikos Actia Nicopolis (talk) 09:03, 26 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Actia Nicopolis Never use that template before, but imo you could ask for some help from Sreejithk2000 who seems to have a lot of experience on this subject. Wish I could be of help to you. Cheers. Lotje (talk) 13:44, 26 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
This is the correct template for simple split requests. If there are multiple overwrites or if the request is complicated, you can drop a note here. --Sreejith K (talk) 14:01, 26 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Checkmark This section is resolved and can be archived. If you disagree, replace this template with your comment. --Sreejith K (talk) 14:01, 26 February 2025 (UTC)

Rotmanka

[edit]

That's right, I know the area around the city of Gdansk very well and the Pomeranian Voivodeship quite well. The author of this photo is a commons known faker, he repeatedly uploads fake images and deliberately gives false captions and information. One thing is certain: this town is not on the A1 motorway, has no expressway joint connection and no service area on the expressway. All photos relating to this are fake. All labels on the motorways in Poland have a blue background, those on the expressways have a green background. If there are details in his photos that point to Rotmanka (street names, signposts) then you can delete everything (especially forest photos, highway photos and rest stops, which can be literally anywhere in Poland). On the Polish wiki he even posted a gallery with an alleged jungle in Rotmanka (a jungle that never existed there). Actually it should be closed forever... you can't see the geo coordinates (in the forest or on the street) anyway. 2A02:3100:816C:FA00:4D5B:3BFF:AE89:C13D
