Women in Defense (1941)

[edit]

Hi there, Racconish. While trying to find a decent copy of Tanks, a 1942 documentary narrated by Orson Welles, I happened across a better version of a 1941 documentary narrated by Katharine Hepburn, Women in Defense. Could this be uploaded in place of the NARA file, or in addition to it?

And if you ever come across a copy of Tanks, I don't recall ever seeing it mentioned in any of the Welles books I have. Details here. Thanks. — WFinch (talk) 03:28, 3 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

WFinch, File:Women in Defense (1941).webm & File:Tanks (1942).webm. Cheers, — Racconish💬 07:20, 4 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Wow, you are too good! Thanks and thanks again. — WFinch (talk) 04:09, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Before i could upload the George Eastman Museum reconstruction sourced from a YouTube upload, @Yann uploaded the full video file, featuring the opening Criterion/NFPF logos and introduction but without the music score (similar case with File:The Mystic (1925) by Tod Browning.webm).

As we previously discussed, you mentioned me that you believe "the introduction is copyrighted and should be cut out, regardless of any credits in the file description." --Mayimbú (talk) 05:31, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

V2C

[edit]

Hi, Did you see my messages on Commons talk:Video2commons#General failure (and my big report phab:T365154)? Have you had any issue with V2C during the last 2 weeks? Thanks, Yann (talk) 13:00, 25 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Cordialement, — Racconish💬 13:55, 25 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
OK, merci. Je veux bien que tu importes La Cigarette (1919), Foolish Wives (1922), The Three Musketeers (1921). Yann (talk) 14:24, 25 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ça dépend des formats disponibles sur YT. — Racconish💬 16:26, 25 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Et pour MPEG4 ? Tu peux aussi importer What Happened to Jones (1926), et Love and Duty (1931) de Bu Wancang, un film chinois dans le domaine public en Chine et aux Etats-Unis. Yann (talk) 18:22, 25 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yann (talk) 14:38, 30 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Cordialement, — Racconish💬 14:57, 30 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
OK merci. Pour info : COM:VP#Enabling MP4. Yann (talk) 21:18, 30 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion sur le Bistro

Bonjour,

Bonne journée Diabolicum (talk) 09:35, 3 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Film restoration, new copyright?

https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Deletion_requests/File:Marie-Trintignant-Italie-1979.png

https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Deletion_requests/File:Berger-Gall-Italie-1984.png

Cordialement, — Racconish💬 09:45, 20 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

1080p versions of old films

[edit]

Hi, I don't know if you follow that page, so FYI: Commons:Graphic Lab/Video and sound workshop#Import 1080p versions. Thanks, Yann (talk) 11:25, 30 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

On the same subject, regarding the discussion archived to User talk:Jeff G./Archives/2024/July#1080p versions of old films, please don't think that I have forgotten about attempting to fix the issue for you and Yann. The latest research is documented off-wiki at https://github.com/toolforge/video2commons/issues/210 (I am still getting 153 errors for Dixiana and two silent versions).   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 13:00, 16 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

On June 2020, @Koavf overwrote your file with an HD version sourced from the Library of Congress page. Despite it's superior quality, that version has missing several seconds of footage from the original upload for which the incomplete english subtitles are out of sync (no the case with the, still unfinished, French and Croatian subtitles which correspond to the current upload).

I suggest to revert the current upload to the original file (or an Higher Quality version of the same file if possible), upload the LOC version as a separate file, request a completion for the English subtitles and move the unfinished French and Croatian subtitles to the new file.--Mayimbú (talk) 19:25, 2 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I think this is the correct solution as well. Do you need me to do it? —Justin (koavf)TCM 21:33, 2 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I will upload the IA version on top of the current one. Justin please revert yours (and the related subtitles) and upload it separately. Thanks, — Racconish💬 06:47, 3 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Could you please delete the first version of the file that had the soundtrack? Back then I forgot to unmute the audio then (which unfortunately happened to me a few times). And I would like someone to remove the audio, which I know you are doing. OGPawlis (talk) 12:21, 17 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Bonjour Racconish,
Tisourcier (talk) 10:48, 21 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello again, Racconish. I just happened across a superlative version of this Army Pictorial Service film that you uploaded at the National Archives: here. The National Archives has also uploaded this version at YouTube per this blog entry.

The blog also refers to a related 1944 War Department documentary about World War I veterans rehabilitation, titled Meet McGonegal. An outstanding copy of that film is also at the National Archives, here. Thanks again for your work here. — WFinch (talk) 03:06, 7 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
