Welcome
[edit]Welcome to the Commons, Aditya Kabir!
Our first steps help file and our FAQ will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy. You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold contributing here and assume good faith for the intentions of others. This is a wiki - it is really easy. More information is available at the Community Portal. You may ask questions at the Help desk, Village Pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons. You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at Commons talk:Licensing. |

Image Tagging Image:Sri Anandamoyi Ma.jpg
[edit]
Thanks for uploading Image:Sri Anandamoyi Ma.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. If the content is a derivative of a copyrighted work, you need to supply the names and a licence of the original authors as well.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{self|cc-by-sa-3.0}} to release it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license or {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Thank you. Re: Image use permission
[edit]Hi Aditya,
You can get permission for a bunch of photos at once (eg. all photos on a particular page, or a particular site), via email, and then you forward that email to OTRS. That is what happened with the lukeisback permission. But you will see even in that email, thre had to be several exchanges to be sure that they understood what they were agreeing to. Unfortunately there is no way getting around that. You're welcome to blame "Wikipedia bureaucracy" if that makes it less awkward to ask again.
BTW, you should put Babel boxes on your userpage :)

We created a computer program to generate random pairings of sentences from public domain texts and public domain / creative commons images. Some of the pictures we've selected come from the Wikipedia Commons. All the pictures we select ourselves, but the pairings and the text are random. Of these pairings that are generated, we only post the most interesting combinations.
We welcome any feedback about our site.

Without a copyright notice
[edit]I've seen both tags you put on my talk page. Could you indicate where the copyright notice is included on the posters? I took another look at File:Promises promises poster 01.jpg and could not find Copr., Copyright, or (C) anywhere on the poster. That is "without a notice" per US law. Crisco 1492 (talk) 16:43, 27 February 2012 (UTC)
- Are you sure that film posters published in the United States between 1923 and 1977 without a license notice explicitly on the poster itself automatically belongs to public domain? Forgive my ignorance, but is there any Wikimedia policy or US legal doctrine indication available that can be furnished as an evidence show that? Alternatively we can take it to the community to have a consensus on the status of the images. Aditya (talk) 06:52, 28 February 2012 (UTC)
- Erm, aside from the template and this, there is this about a court case which would be nice to see in its entirety if I could find it. Crisco 1492 (talk) 13:31, 28 February 2012 (UTC)
- We can use the loophole fine (the one you explained at en.Wikipedia). Cheers. Aditya (talk) 05:51, 3 March 2012 (UTC)

- It's in indeed a case of license laundering: the image is a scan of a copyrighted photograph. Ralgis 17:26, 14 May 2012 (UTC)
- It would be nice if you could learn to recognize cases of dubious copyright status yourself, instead of other people having to clean up after you... AnonMoos (talk) 04:40, 18 May 2012 (UTC)

Film trailer images can't have personality rights warnings
[edit]Re: this I'm pretty sure that's not the case. Legally speaking the image is free of copyright (due to the era in which the image failure to file for copyright). However personality rights exist outside the sphere of copyright. For example if you tried to use that image to apply endorsement of a product, you'd be in the land of personality rights. Thanks for uploading File:Jayne Mansfield & Kee Joon, owner of Empress of China, 1966.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.
Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own). The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded ([[:File:Jayne Mansfield & Kee Joon, owner of Empress of China, 1966.jpg]] ) and the above demanded information in your request. |

Files uploaded from Flickr
[edit]Please read Commons:Flickr files. In particular, make sure you represent the licensing correctly with respect to terms and versions. Also make sure that you tag the files for license review using {{flickrreview}}. Using one of the recommended methods like Flickr2Commons will ensure you get things right automatically. Thanks, —LX (talk, contribs) 18:53, 21 October 2017 (UTC)
- Thanks. I tried using it. But, there is no instruction available. Is it possible to find out what it means by Flickr user ID or name OR Flickr photoset ID OR single Flickr photo ID? Even more importantly, what it means by Flickr tag (optional) and Max pictures? Aditya (talk) 03:18, 22 October 2017 (UTC)
- In addition to the popups shown when hovering over the input fields, more detailed instructions are available at Commons:Flickr2Commons.
- The user ID or name is the part after /people/ in a Flickr user's profile address (not including any slashes), so for https://www.flickr.com/people/66391503@N00, it's 66391503@N00, and for https://www.flickr.com/people/piers_brown, it's piers_brown.
- A photo set ID is the part after /albums/ in a Flickr gallery's address, so for https://www.flickr.com/photos/66391503@N00/albums/72157687434213420, it's 72157687434213420.
- The photo ID is the part immediately after the user ID or name in the address of a photo, so for https://www.flickr.com/photos/66391503@N00/8688428250/, it's 8688428250, and for https://www.flickr.com/photos/piers_brown/3365329765, it's 3365329765.
- The Flickr tag and Max pictures settings are actually not that important. They're for filtering and limiting the list of files that you could potentially transfer in the next step when uploading multiple files by user ID or name or photo set ID. I would suggest starting with uploading individual files by entering the photo ID, and then these settings aren't useful at all.

Cleavage versions
[edit]Hi, I just looked at your article about cleavage and saw you haven't used the illustrations I helped you with. I know at the time we discussed the thumbnails but when I saw how you used the images I more understood your needs, I'm sorry I didn't get that at the time.
Anyway, I have now mad new versions of the illustrations;
Smaller more distinct versions
-
Champagne glass cleavage classification
-
Cocktail glass cleavage classification
-
Hi-ball glass cleavage classification
-
Hourglass cleavage classification
-
Cocktail glass cleavage classification
-
Goblet glass cleavage classification
-
Margarite glass cleavage classification
-
Tumbler glass cleavage classification
They are smaller in size and thereby there is not such a a big difference between full size and thumbnail, also they are bit more distinct and I hope they will work better for you.
What I have learned from this is that I always has to ask more questions about which size the requester will use an illustration in, and more precisely how. If I don't have that kind of information I will make them 800-1000 px high for visibility and depending on the amount of information in them. Sometimes it is impossible to get a thumbnail to work well, like in maps.
I hope those versions work better for you and you can always contact me if you want any corrections, anything goes, thanks. --Goran tek-en (talk) 14:08, 6 September 2020 (UTC)
