[edit]Image Tagging Image:Affine-vs-cartesian.png
[edit]
Thanks for uploading Image:Affine-vs-cartesian.png. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{Cc-by-sa-2.5}} to release it under the Creative Commons or {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Thank you. - Hello. I am definite that on the moment of uploading the file (actually i had to upload it several times, because of minor corrections), I stated that it is "own work", provided under "GFDL content created by the uploader" and I chose this same license from the drop-down menu. The file was created by me for the needs of the article on Coordinates in the Bulgarian wikipedia here, as were several other images: Spherical-coordinates.png, Spherical-coordinates-1.png. I believe that with the correction just made and the present explanations, the image will not be removed from the commons database. --Spiritia 20:25, 3 September 2006 (UTC)
- Just click edit on image description and replace no license tag with license of your choice. --EugeneZelenko 20:35, 3 September 2006 (UTC)
- Done, thank you :) Regards, Spiritia 11:11, 4 September 2006 (UTC)
Please note that SVG is better format for such images.
Tip: Categorizing images
[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.
[[Category:Category name]]
For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:
[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]
This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.EugeneZelenko 19:52, 3 September 2006 (UTC)
- As far as the change of the file format, okay, I will have it in mind. But, can you please explain me what makes this beneficial difference? Thank you. --Spiritia 20:25, 3 September 2006 (UTC)
- SVG could be easily scaled (it's vector format). It's more to translate vector images then bitmaps on other languages too. --EugeneZelenko 20:37, 3 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit]Image deletion warning | Image:Cebocap.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry. If you created this image, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. If the file is up for deletion because it has been superseded by a superior derivative of your work, consider the notion that although the file may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new file. |

Re User:Laino
[edit]It seems this user is either confused or or deliberately giving wrong information on his uploads. Several images has been identified (and deleted) as images from commons reuploaded with Bulgarian names and tagged as the users own work. I'm not sure if this user understands English, so your help in communicating to him/her with translating the messages left by Herby on user talk:Laino would be appreciated. There's also Image:Паметници в Древен Египет.jpg which seems an obvious copyvio, if you could do a google search with the relevant Bulgarian keywords it would probably be possible to identify the source. Finn Rindahl 11:23, 5 October 2007 (UTC)
- Hello Finn, sorry for not having answered earlier, I was outside of Bulgaria for a week.
- I saw a new suspicious "contribution" of User:Laino : Image:Египетски ръкопис.jpg (filename reading "Egyptian script"). My closest finding so far is this - not exactly the same image but very similar. I think that the uploaded picture can hardly be an "own work", maybe PD-old at its best, but the source is still missing.
- I also tried to discover the origin of Image:Паметници в Древен Египет.jpg (meaning "Monuments of the Ancient Egypt"). I made searches in Bulgarian, when i realized that... although the user is apparently Bulgarian, and the filename is in Bulgarian, the inscriptions on the picture themselves are in Russian! True, "Egypt" is written in the same way "Египет" in both languages, but in Bulgarian the depicted Red Sea is written "Червено море", while in Russian it is exactly "Красное море" and the Eastern Desert only in Russian is named "Аравийская пустыня" (in Bulgarian: "Арабска пустиня"). And it is generally illogical to create your own picture for local use and filenamed in your native language while using inscriptions in another language... If I were you, I wouldn't need more proofs that the image is blatant copyvio :-)
- I've been a copyright watchdog on BG WP for about an year, and even written down my personal experience to help other users deal with copyvio issues. Feel free to contact me whenever there are problems with BG users or their uploads, in some of the cases it is only a matter of novice inexperience. Since our community is not so big and I often know the users from their local behaviour, I often manage to fix the innocent problems before they come to a Commons administrator. :-) Another highly reliable user (copyright watchdog and administrator) from Bulgaria, whom you can contact in case of copyvio issues, is User:Daggerstab. He was who discovered that Laino's new upload Image:Белград.jpg is copyvio and found the source. --Spiritia 16:20, 9 October 2007 (UTC)

Hello, and thank your for sharing your files with Commons. There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. Please remember that all uploads require source, author and license information. Could you please resolve these problems, which are described on the page linked in above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which information may be missing. Thank you.

Hi Spriritia, long time....
I've been more or less inactive on this and other wikimediaprojects since october last year, and I didn't notice your response and comment about user:Laino until I just now saw it in your talk archive. I've tagged the image you mentioned there {{No source}}. Regards, Finn Rindahl 12:06, 3 April 2008 (UTC)

Congratulations, Dear Administrator!
[edit]Spiritia, congratulations! You now have the rights of administrator on Commons. Please take a moment to read the Commons:Administrators page and watchlist related pages (in particular Commons:Administrators' noticeboard and Commons:Deletion requests), before launching yourself into page deletions, page protections, account blockings or modifications of protected pages. The majority of the actions of administrators can be reversed by the other admins, except for history merges which must thus be treated with particular care.
Please feel free to join us on IRC: #wikimedia-commons @ irc.freenode.net. You may find Commons:Guide to adminship to be useful reading.
Please also check or add your entry to the List of administrators and the related lists by language and date it references....

I still have some technical concerns related to archiving these, so any advise from a more experienced admin is more than welcome. :-) Spiritia 10:30, 14 May 2008 (UTC)
- Well, the only thing I can think of right now is... please add yourself to Category:Commons administrators, either manually or by adding {{User admin}} somewhere :). I don't know if anyone uses that category, but hey, it's there to be used ;). If you do any mistake, you'll be punished... Just kidding, don't worry, we usually go around being mellow and give friendly advices and fix stuff that is broken, without much whining, hehe. Cheers, Patrícia msg 18:10, 14 May 2008 (UTC)

CC-BY-SA-2.0 vs CC-BY-SA-2.5
[edit]Hi,
What's the difference between CC-BY-SA-2.0 and CC-BY-SA-2.5? Aren't those cumulative? Thanks! --Chech Explorer 12:22, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
- Oh, I just changed with respect to what the source (original author) say. I dont really know all the differences between the version, but Sharing alike means sharing under the very same license as the original. I think that such an upgrade might be permissible for CC-BY (only BY, no SA) but even then I'd prefer to play safe and license with respect to the author's will. Have in mind that Прон does not understand licenses so transfering his uploads requires extra care. :-) →Spiritia 12:36, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
Deleted photo
[edit]Hi, Spiritia! You deleted the photo of Erich Arendt (Erich_Arendt.jpg) from the Bulgarian article http://bg.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D0%95%D1%80%D0%B8%D1%85_%D0%90%D1%80%D0%B5%D0%BD%D0%B4. Erich Arendt died in 1984 but the photo was made ca. 1938 - i.e. 70 years ago. Copyright owner is not the photographed object but the photographer, who is unknown. What was the reason for you to delete the photo? Please answer here. Thanks!--Darldarl 19:31, 20 May 2008 (UTC)
- Hello, thanks for your question, here is my argumentation. The deleted image is copy of this one: http://www.rimbaud.de/ericharendt.jpg (linked from here). Arendt was born in 1903. Do you imply that he looked in this way on the age of 35? Excuse me, but I doubt, he looks a way older. Second, in the description you only provided date 15 May 2007, which obviously is not the date of creation. The source itself does not provide information of neither this date, nor the photographer, so if we don't know who the photographer was, how can we imply he's already dead for at least 70 years? Because, you know, 70 years start to count down since the date of author's death, and not the date of creation of an image.
- In a word, uploading images of alive or recently deceased people from sources that do not provide information about copyright status and authorship, is a risky business and I would not advise you to do this on Commons. However, on Bulgarian Wikipedia fair use is not tolerated any more. Cheers! →Spiritia 20:34, 20 May 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks! You're right!--Darldarl 08:40, 22 May 2008 (UTC)
Advice needed
[edit]Hi, what do you think about these? Most should have their borders cropped off and I've already processed quite a lot, but I am not sure whether they are appropriate for Commons at all, especially with that "For Reference Use Only" water mark right in the center. What do you think? Should I go on cropping or some special measures should be undertaken? Checked for usage - these images are being used only on a subpage of the uploader. --Chech Explorer 07:36, 21 May 2008 (UTC)
- I think that such images - although discouraged - are not due to deletion because of the watermark running over them. Yeah, their usage is hindered in one way or another but they are freely licensed, hence improveable. If you wish you may continue cropping them or leave it to the next editor who may take care of the watermarks, as well. :-) →Spiritia 12:01, 21 May 2008 (UTC)
Bulgarian politics
[edit]Hi! Why did you delete photos of Bulgarian politics? They were uploaded in accordance with bulgarian law. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Davi (talk • contribs) 12:24, 21 May 2008 (UTC)
- Sorry, but they weren't. Please, take your time to first have a look at my copyvio investigation of this case: User:Spiritia/Investigations#Pictures from www.parliament.bg. →Spiritia 12:27, 21 May 2008 (UTC)
New BG interface
[edit]Very nice, but what about images with description generated by the Move-to-commons assistant? I paste the info in the additional info box and then I have a problem - I must have filled the boxes about the author, source and description. It is not very nice when you move images from Wikipedia to Commons. Is there any work-around?
PS You can delete Image:Exoplanets.jpg, Image:STS2.jpg and Image:STS полети.jpg. They are outdated and not needed anymore. Thanks. --Chech Explorer 10:17, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
PS2 And check this bot upload issue. --Chech Explorer 10:25, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
- Image:Lom-central-square.jpg can be edited with correct cyrillic texts. As far as I know the Bot's programmer is aware of the bug. We have to reconcile with the situation, until it get fixed.
- The way out is in your local Commons settings. Click Special:Preferences >> Gadgets >> Improved navigation >> Use the old-style upload form layout. This will help you use Move-to-commons assistant for cyrillic texts, without the need to pass through the File Uploader Bot that bugs them.
- I will delete these images mentioned. For future candidates for speedy deletion, you may choose to use template:Speedydelete. →Spiritia 10:45, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
- PS. Yeah, I will have to find several spare hours to translate the system messages... in the last week SUL consultations consumed a big part of my wikimedian time. :) →Spiritia 10:50, 2 June 2008 (UTC)

There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. It has been found that you've added in the image's description only a Template that's not a license and although it provides useful informations about the image, it's not a valid license. Could you please resolve this problem, adding the license in the image linked above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Paris images
[edit]Thank you for uploading these images! I think they're great. I'm not living in Paris though, so I'll only be able to identify photos from better known locations. But even so it's a great set. Perhaps once a certain number has been pinpointed, the remaining ones can be found too. With the geolocations, it would be possible to kind of retrace your parents' steps! Imagine that! I think it's fascinating. You wouldn't have the dates the images were taken, so that they could be arranged in a chronological sequence? Lupo 07:31, 25 June 2008 (UTC)

- Thank you very much, Octave, for the nice words and your work. Sadly, only several of the almost 200 photos have descriptions on the back. I only know that these pictures Image:Paris-in-1981-096.jpg, Image:Paris-in-1981-024.jpg and the alikes, were taken from the balcony/window of the room they lived in, but I have absolutely no clues if they have ever taken picture of the building itself and, if yes, which one is it. Are you able to figure it out? →Spiritia 13:06, 25 June 2008 (UTC)
- Octave.H has identified the building shown, and thus with two images we can pinpoint the location where these photos were taken: about here. It's quite possible that the building already existed in 1981 (after all, the underground parking entrance or whatever it is also existed back then), but I have no idea what that building is or was. - I am not less amazed :-) True, he was a graphic artist and based on his impressions of Paris he drew a series of aquarelles. My grandma told me that he was so keen on taking these photos of buildings and places, not only to have the memories with him once they return to Bulgaria, but also to show some fine architecture to Bulgarian architects (who in the times of communism didnt really bother of the aesthetic appeal of the buildings... actually they didnt bother about the functional side of it all, but this is another story :-) ). What interesting discoveries really... →Spiritia 14:03, 25 June 2008 (UTC)

- Wait a sec. I have to break some bad news to you. Some of these images should not be published (yet). The problem is that the Totem pole building, the Corn cob buildings, and Chronos 10 are copyrighted. The photos are derivative works of these copyrighted buildings and sculptures, and the "freedom of panorama" exception does not exist at all in France, in the U.S. only for buildings, and in Bulgaria only for "informational or other non-commercial purposes" (article 23(5) of the Bulgarian copyright law). - Well, as you know, I uploaded images of places which I didnt recognize by myself. I am not going to play drama queen on any of these. Feel free to delete anything illegal but please do not forget to avoid the copyright paranoia whenever you can (most of those "possibly affected" images are just normal buildings, nothing really artistic about them). :-) My personal opinion is that imposing restrictions on the basis of so-called "freedom" of panorama is a huge legislative misunderstanding, but this is an off-wiki problem, nothing I can about it. →Spiritia 10:35, 26 June 2008 (UTC)

- Wait a sec. I have to break some bad news to you. Some of these images should not be published (yet). The problem is that the Totem pole building, the Corn cob buildings, and Chronos 10 are copyrighted. Category redirects
[edit]Hey Spiri, it's me again, this time on Commons! :P Is it ok that I did this and created Category:Economy of the Republic of Macedonia? Or is it better to delete the first one?
Another thing, I uploaded Image:Macedonian yufki.JPG (my first self made) and I intend to start contributing to Commons with original photography (I'm buying a camera tomorrow). BTW, why the heck is the .JPG in uppercase? Arghh.. You must know, you know everything. :P --INkubusse (talk) 00:46, 27 June 2008 (UTC)
- Hehe, I wish you were right and I really knew everything... :-) Well, yeah, the category redirect is just fine, the rule on Commons is to keep the (sensible) category duplicates as redirects, the practice on other wikis (like BG WP) is to delete them; just a matter of adopted convention and capacity to handle these properly.
- Good news that you've come to contribute in the Commons. Btw, we also have yufka in BG and it doesnt look much different than yours, I hope you wouldnt object if I add the Category:Food of Bulgaria, it's relevant.
- About the upper/lower case: uppercase extensions may come in result of using some Microsoft product like MS Paint or MS Office Picture Manager, in case that you save an image typing only its filename, i.e. leaving the application to automatically add the extension. But if you bother to manually type the extension in small case, it will keep it as you wish. Furthermore, when uploading a file on Commons or any other wiki, you are able to discern between Source filename (as appears on your computer) and Destination filename (as will appear on the wiki) and change the latest if necessary. The general advise is to use lowercase for filename extentions (and the software is case sensitive) but it's allowable to upload your files using uppercase as well. Good news is that if you attempt uploading the file Abc.def in the presence of an already existing file Abc.DEF (or vice versa...), you'll get a warning.
- Congrats for the camera, wish you to make a good choice of cam and make brilliant shots for Wikipedia :-)))) →Spiritia 05:59, 27 June 2008 (UTC)
- Ye, I know about Destination filename, the original filename was DSC000xxx (I'm not that dumb haha.. I am, but not that :D). I always edit the extension, but there were times (on mk.wiki) when it just said the filename was changed to xxx.JPG even though there was no image with a similar filename, whatsoever. Bleh, I guess I'm just missing something... Anyway, thanks for the wishes. :-) --INkubusse (talk) 14:08, 27 June 2008 (UTC)
Please take a look. I believe this image needs to be mirrored. I've also asked Octave.H about it; if he or she agrees, may I upload the mirrored version over the original? Lupo 09:38, 27 June 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for bringing my attention to this talk page. And yes, if you guys are definite that the image has been incorrectly mirrored, feel free to upload over the original, storing misleading photos is a nonsense. :-) →Spiritia 10:28, 27 June 2008 (UTC)
No. No mirroring. This is not Saint-Germain-l'Auxerrois church but Saint-Germain-l'Auxerrois church tower and the Mairie du 1er arrondissement. The church and the mairie look very much like each other. The church is on the right hand side and can hardly be seen. Have a look there Église Saint-Germain-l'Auxerrois de Paris. Octave.H (talk) 08:53, 28 June 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, me and Lupo reached same conclusion after we took a look over several other pictures from different angles. Thank you! →Spiritia 08:57, 28 June 2008 (UTC)

Upload problem
[edit]Hello,
I made this map on my computer and it worked well : Image:Latrun area 1948.svg.
But when I visualize this here in commons, all the names are in black boxes (???)
Could you please delete this ? Thank you ! Ceedjee (talk) 19:09, 7 July 2008 (UTC)
- Hi, Ceedjee, I also had the same problem with the file. It is deleted now. Cheers, →Spiritia 19:17, 7 July 2008 (UTC)
- Thank you for your help !
- I have uploaded 6 new images and again, once is not good...
- Image:Opération Ben Nun.svg
- Could you take care of this one (again).
- Not to disturb you at each time, could you tell me where can I ask such request on commons ?
- Thank you !
- Ceedjee (talk) 15:20, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
- Hello, don't worry, you're welcome. Fastest way in such cases is to tag the image with template {{speedydelete|Reason}} (press edit button of the image description page and then place the template, adding the reason). Other deletion procedures and templates are listed on Commons:Deletion guidelines. For questions and further assistance with image editing problems you may use Commons:Village pump or Commons:Help desk. Hope this helps. :-) →Spiritia 15:49, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
Own subpage outside user space
[edit]A retort to your last quolibets has been given on my talk. But a different topic has emerged while I was observing your edits on Commons: why have you created on the one hand Потребител:Spiritia/Бързи връзки, and on the other User:Spiritia/monobook.js? On the second page there is link on the left superior corner with link to User:Spiritia and on the first there is none and I am afraid that the mainspace has been tresspassed. Regardless of the language /applies empirically for bg, en, de, fr, ja/ in my preferences, a link to your user page emerges only in the second case, thereby is every reader of Потребител:Spiritia/Бързи връзки with no knowledge of the Bulgarian language deprived of the possibility to conclude that it pertains to User:Spiritia. Would you thence consider moving Потребител:Spiritia/Бързи връзки to User:Spiritia/Бързи връзки? Bogorm (talk) 12:33, 24 July 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for notifying me, I really forgot about the namespace differences... but no, I am not going to make any moves right now. Some javascripts need to be rewritten first. But hey, keep watching my edits, I like it :-) →Spiritia 13:11, 24 July 2008 (UTC)
- Done Okay, bug is fixed, old page is moved and deleted. Thanks again. →Spiritia 13:29, 24 July 2008 (UTC)
Chee Soo image deletion
[edit]Dear Spiritia You have deleted an image of which I am the copyright holder. Yes this image appears on my website [3] because I also hold the copyright to my website. It is taken from a book by my T'ai Chi teacher, I am the exclusive worldwide copyright holder for all of his works including written text and photographs. I have now published this photograph on Wikimedia commons so it is now copyright free and available for anyone to use in any circumstances. In future please ask first before arbitrarily deleting people's images without properly researching the reason.
If you do not believe me then feel free to email me at chuangzu@seahorsearts.co.uk which you will notice is the name of my domain, I will happily reply to you to confirm that I am this domain, in the meanwhile I will remove the copyright symbol which by the way does not specifically apply to this image only to the rest of the page content.
Might I humbly remind you: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:Assume_good_faith_lolcat.jpg Chuangzu (talk) 23:50, 28 September 2008 (UTC)

About PD-old
[edit]Hey there Spiritia, haven't talked to you in a while. I was quite inactive for the last few weeks, due to vacations and usual procrastinations, but I'm working on my comeback. You sent me a rather unpleasant message on my mk talk page and I was really upset to understand the way you interpreted my actions; I replied instantly, but on my mk talk page as well. In case you haven't read it, please do so whenever you have spare time. I humbly apologize for sounding like a harasser, but I explained my reasons. Now, if you're not mad at me (are you?), I'm asking for a short advice about this image: mk:Слика:KameniMost1.jpg. I've scarcely ever uploaded pd-old images to Commons (I usually upload my own works), so I'm asking if pd-old applies for this one and if it is uploadable to Commons. I hope for a warm and friendly response. :/ Peace! :) --iNkubusse? 03:54, 9 September 2008 (UTC)
- The image in question lacks a verifiable source (URL from where the image was originally taken, or paper source from where it was scanned), that should contain information about the author and date of creation, in support of the PD-old claim. If author is known, his/her images fall in the public domain 70 yeas after his/her death. If author is unknown, these 70 years start counting from the date of first publication. That's it - warm and friendly. →Spiritia 14:11, 10 September 2008 (UTC)
- Not exactly, but thanks anyway. I see it's no good for Commons unless I have a proof of its first publication. --iNkubusse? 15:08, 10 September 2008 (UTC)
There was a {{:bg:PD-анонимно}} on a picture I upload from bg on commons. I put a {{:anonymous-EU}}. Is it ok ? - Zil (d) 19:09, 12 September 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, it is okay, I'll ask the original uploader to specify the source of the image. By the way, fix your signature, the link underlining your username is now fr:Useur:Zil going nowhere (should be either User or Utilisateur). Regards, →Spiritia 05:42, 14 September 2008 (UTC)
Protected edit requests
[edit]Spiri, what's going on with the admins on Commons? I requested an edit on a protected page and no one attends to it for three days now. Do you watch Category:Commons protected edit requests? Either way, could you please add the Macedonian translation on the GFDL template? Thanks in advance. --iNkubusse? 12:27, 16 September 2008 (UTC)
- Hi, Inkubusse, sadly, watching categories means watching the editable part only, impossible to get direct notification of addition/removal of items to the category. It's explained on en:Wikipedia:Watchlist#What_you_cannot_watch and en:Help:Category#Detection_of_additions_to_a_category. However, there are some indirect ways with the related changes functionality, but imho this approach is impractical for this very case, because once completed an editprotected-request, the template usually get deleted, commented, &ly;nowiki>-ed or otherwise masked so that it no longer appears in the category itself (i.e. the page containing the template is by itself not enrolled in the category, hence the related changes are helpless). But now I remember, there was a bot doing to some extent this dirty job, User:BryanBot/CategoryWatch, I will study it and maybe make use of it. →Spiritia 14:16, 16 September 2008 (UTC)
- I already know this stuff, but I don't mind the explanation; it's your duty. :P I meant watch as in sometimes open it and see if there are new pages added. I know I do it in my administrative domain. ;) I just bookmark the links to those categories that I intend to "watch" and click on them occasionally. It is quite peculiar that so many admins on Commons fail to notice, or worse, neglect such requests. Anyway, there may be new ones, as I'm starting with Category:Language link templates right away. --iNkubusse? 16:16, 16 September 2008 (UTC)
- Well, I am not able to speak on the behalf of other admins or comment their actions or inaction. I myself didn't really know of the existence of this very template/category before the moment you drew my attention to it. :-) I didn't even know about this Category:Language link templates before I saw your request and worked out that for a person willing to translate Commons templates this might be the a better starting point than queries to Google or the wiki search engine. I'd suggest that you just make a longer list of the templates which you plan to translate and I'll add the respective mk-links at once, or vice versa: first make the translations and then give me the list, as you prefer. And of course, thanks for helping! →Spiritia 03:19, 17 September 2008 (UTC)
- Sure, that's a great plan. I'm having some serious problems with my hard disk now and I will have to use my laptop, which I don't love very much, but I think I'll translate about 10 today, maybe 20, and then I'll give you a list of the protected templates. And don't thank me; I'm as much a member of the community as you are, right? :P I'm helping what I consider worth helping! :) --iNkubusse? 14:44, 17 September 2008 (UTC)

About the translations
[edit]I'm terribly confused and puzzled over a certain matter with the translated tags. Well, to be perfectly honest, I think I actually do know the answer to my question, but I feel I have to ask you first. Namely, how the heck do we make use of translated tags whose original tags employ parameters?! For example, I spent some reasonable time translating the whole Template:PermissionOTRS, and in the end, I realized that when a user sees the tag in English and clicks on Македонски, all he sees is poorly intelligible text with raw code showing unused parameters and wikilinking. In case you don't get the picture, pretend you're German and don't understand what the tag says on this image. Especially the part with "it is available as ticket 2008060510016958". Actually, I think this particular translation has to be revised, as well as many others that include parameters. Forgive me for expressing such strong feelings about such a foolish thing, but I was rather devastated to realize that there is no use in translated tags that employ parameters. :( Especially after finishing the OTRS translation with all the code. Or maybe I'm just missing something... Am I? Please say I do. I usually do. --iNkubusse? 04:57, 18 September 2008 (UTC)
- I got your concerns but I think you're bothering a way too much :-) The purpose of these subpages is auxiliary - to provide handy translation to English non-speakers, not to fully replace the tag. You're right that parameters used in particular pages are not inheritable among the generic template and its subpages, but I think that readers are smart enough to make the necessary mapping and compile the information pieces from both pages into a single consistent message. However, if you keep seeing a problem or need to further discuss, best I can advise you is to use the template talk or Commons:Help desk. Regards, →Spiritia 12:35, 18 September 2008 (UTC)
- I think I can get over it. :) And don't rely on readers' intellect that much. :P So, since they are unusable, do I have permission to remove parameters from translated tags on sight? --iNkubusse? 15:59, 18 September 2008 (UTC)
- Oh, no. I didnt mean this. I said that if page A calls template B with parameter C, then it's impossible that C gets inherited if you click from A to B/D.
- But, it doesnt prevent that page A directly calls B/D with parameter C. In such a case, B/D should have parameters inside. You just translate what's translatable, don't change the logic. :-) →Spiritia 17:47, 18 September 2008 (UTC)
- Hmm... You'll have to explain the last part better. Are you saying that a certain page (A) can call a translated template (B/D) which uses parameter C? I thought readers only click on the translations, which in fact open as new pages; they can NOT inherit the parameters from the previous page (the image description page). Right? Hence, parameters in translated template are useless! Isn't that so? Oh, please just tell me if I got that right. :( --iNkubusse? 01:41, 19 September 2008 (UTC)
- > a certain page (A) can call a translated template (B/D) which uses parameter C
- In theory - yes. How is it implemented in practice, is another story. I have to admit that only now did I check the code of Template:PermissionOTRS/de. Well, it's normal that it gives error, the template definition is absolutely retrenched. :-) Compare source codes of generic and /de. Now see how it must be done and compare the outputs. :-) I will try to fix the rest of Template:PermissionOTRS/lang until this evening. Tell me if you come across other templates with parameters, whose translations are done half-only. :-) →Spiritia 10:17, 19 September 2008 (UTC)
- I think you didn't get my point well. What I was trying to say was that there is no way to implement a parameter in a translated tag, like this:
{{PermissionOTRS/bg|id=2006101710008538}}
. The translations serve only as guides which explain the user what kind of licence applies for that image, right? I mean, parameters are not inheritable for translated tags. Agh, I'm having a hard time explaining my concern. :( Ok, I'll try harder. :) Here: - When I open an image (e.g. Image:Waterval Ova Fedoz.jpg), I see an OTRS tag in English, which implements one parameter (ticket). If I'm a native speaker of Bulgarian, I'll probably click on 'Български' just to make sure I understand properly.
- When I click on 'Български', it takes me to a wholly different page, named Template:PermissionOTRS/bg. Now that page... Well, it doesn't use any parameters, does it? It doesn't have any connection to that particular image I was seeing, and thus cannot inherit any parameters, whatsoever.
- The point: {{{parameters}}} in source codes of translated tags are utterly unnecessary and redundant. Hence, they need to be removed! (mwahaha) Right? :S --iNkubusse? 03:56, 21 September 2008 (UTC)
- I agree with the reasoning but I disagree with the conclusion. I do think that parameter calls are necessary to stay in their respective places, at least to mark presence, because they are important semantic milestones in the template rendering and facilitate the correct mapping between the message in the unknown language and the translation in the known one.
- I further insist that if parameter definitions are skipped in the translated subpage then it can only function as a translation and nothing beyond this (language layer). However, if they are left intact, then the translation itself may as well function as a template (functional layer + language layer >= language layer). I think that translating in both cases costs same efforts, but in the second case, there is an added value, which as small and rare as it may be, is decisive to me.
- As I said, if you have other concerns which I am unable to face, please use the respective talk and community pages. Thank you, →Spiritia 07:37, 21 September 2008 (UTC)

ASF-Logo.svg
[edit]I just noticed you deleted the image Image:ASF-logo.svg some time ago... but, I think not for a valid reason. You cite a clause which was previously discussed at Commons_talk:Licensing/Archive_8#Apache_Logo.2FApache_License. If you think the entire license is invalid, then the template should probably be brought up for deletion rather than deleting the images (apologies if there was a separate reason why you deleted the image; I'm going by the deletion comment). Note that the FSF has explicitly declared the Apache 2.0 license as compatible with the GPLv3 (section 6 is not a fair use clause; see this PDF document, page 9), so it should be free by definition. If you agree, could you undelete the image? I'd be happy to open an undeletion request if you think that is a better route. Thanks :-) Carl Lindberg (talk) 04:00, 24 October 2008 (UTC)
- Thank you for your kind note and pointing this previous discussion of which I didn't really know. I left a note on the talk page for further reference, yet it is still unpleasant that the Apache website is so explicit in their wording ("for reasonable and customary use" =/= "any use" :-) ) Regards, →Spiritia 05:47, 25 October 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, it is a bit confusing -- that section is referring specifically to trademark rights (and therefore is talking about en:trademark fair use), which is unrelated to copyright restrictions (and thus fine per Commons:Non-copyright restrictions), but recognizing the distinction can be hard unless reading closely. Pretty easy mistake to make. The only thing would have been to notice that the {{Apache}} license is listed as a free license on the Commons:Copyright tags#Other_free_tags page, so any images licensed that way should be presumed free unless the license itself turns out to have a problem (i.e. nominate the license for deletion first, then the images would follow). Anyways, no harm done, and thanks for getting to it :-) Carl Lindberg (talk) 17:45, 25 October 2008 (UTC)

[edit]I have a question about the Jewish Monument in Vidin. Do you know for the honor of which event it was constructed? Thanks in advance --Klearchoskapoutsis (talk) 18:48, 28 November 2008 (UTC)
- Hello, Klearchoskapoutsis. I discovered another picture of this monument where the plaque inscription is legible: Image:Vidin-jews-monument-plaque.jpg. So, it reads:
- We will never forget.
- Since 2 century A.D. in Vidin there have lived a Jewish community, exiled from their motherland, which in 1949 returned in the newly established state of Israel.
- The attitude of Vidin citizenship to the Jews has been markedly hospitable, tolerant and humane. With the Liberation of Bulgaria Jews were given the same citizen rights.
- In 1943 49 000 Bulgarian Jews were threatened with physical annihilation, against which Bulgarian nation opposed in the most categorical way, and their protest led to our rescue.
- With eternal gratitude and fondness to our fellow citizens from Vidin and to the whole Bulgarian nation for their humane feat.
- From the Vidin's Jews community living in Israel

[edit]If I haven't become a big problem can I ask you to see the photo here [5] and say to me which church it is. If we take for granted the date (1909), the Cathedral at that time at Veliko Tarnovo was the "Свето Рождество Богородично"
. If it is the same church then the present church has nothing to do with Koliu Ficheto design... Thanks in advance... --Klearchoskapoutsis (talk) 16:52, 3 December 2008 (UTC)
- Hello. I didnt know much about these churches, but I spent a bit time reading. This source lists 7 churches built by Kolyo Ficheto in Veliko Tarnovo and explains that the old cathedral church (presumably the one, you linked to) was devastated during an earthquake on 1 April 1913. On its place the present cathedral was built by the self-taught master Grozyu (Grandpa Grozyu) in 1933-34, and was decorated in 1954 by some of the leading Bulgarian painters and art professors of the time, Nikola Kozhuharov, Dimitar Gyudjenov and Panteley Seferov. Hope this helps. :-) →Spiritia 17:16, 3 December 2008 (UTC)
Yes, very much!!! Много благодаря!!--Klearchoskapoutsis (talk) 00:48, 4 December 2008 (UTC) One question more (I am all questions): the two churches were built in the same place or the new one is built in a different place; The old church was built in Bolyarska mahala...
- On the same place, they say. In another paragraph it is written that the old church's façade was kept in Leon Filipov's sketches and a miniature model of the building, made before the quake. Nowadays this model is preserved in a special exposition [inside the house-museum of architect Filipov]. →Spiritia 12:05, 4 December 2008 (UTC)

FOP-based deletion requests
[edit]Please believe that I have nothing against Bulgaria, it's only coincidence here (and I'm not systematic at all in my "FOP interventions"). I'm French and before I read stuff on Commons about FOP, I didn't know that my national laws did not allow me to shoot recent buildings and sculptures (and I deeply regret it, but I agreed to respect Commons regulations and guidelines...). The first FOP cases I nominated for deletion were my own pictures, and this absence of FOP prevents me from uploading a lot of pictures. For the moment I don't do mass deletion requests though, because FOP-based DRs are quite aggressive on people who don't know/care about these absurd subtleties. I spotted one or two while looking at the new files and didn't want to avoid them, that's it... (I also request deletion when the pictures are nominated for Quality or Valued Images). --Eusebius (talk) 11:27, 29 December 2008 (UTC)
- Hello, Eusebius. I fully understand the rationale of your actions, in all of their subtleties... as well as I understand the wording of our law, in all of its crudity. I still have my very good reasons to oppose "freedom" of panorama, but I'll save you the effort of reading them. This is a battle that has to be fought with the half-wit lawmakers in my country, not with you. :-) Instead, I'll tell you a nice little story that happened to me several months ago...
- ...Several months ago I discovered a family archive with 160 photos by my grandfather of Paris in 1981, when he was there for an artist specialization. In feverish excitement, I scanned all of them and uploaded them for less than two days. As I have never been in Paris, I didn't recognize almost any of the buildings. And it was fantastic to see how almost 3/4 of these pictures got recognized by the Commons community, mainly but not limited to French people, and obtained their descriptions, categories, geolocations, etc in less than a week. Some of the people were so sweet to leave on my talk notes and share with me their joy of being able to take this romantic look in the past. It was a real thrill, I hope anyone on Commons be able to feel it, at least once in a wikitime. I was so happy to see the network effect, that even the FOP-based deletion request for some of these images did not cast a gloomy shade over my true delight of what has happened. True, I didn't know what's there on the pics, so I admitted my fault and it was me to delete these of the images, which were unanimously pointed out as violations. Natives say that FOP policy was strictly followed in France, and I didn't have any god reason to disbelieve them. So, about half of the nominated images really got deleted, yet another half was saved, maybe based on the healthy common sense of people who did not mistake the letter of the law with its spirit. Which was not less important and not less thrilling, is it? :-)
- Back to reality. Today I wrote an email to the sculptor of John Atanasoff's monument with a request of explicit permission for having the photos of his works under free license with allowance of eventual commercial usage. I do hope that sooner or later (you know, holidays...) I will get a positive reply. Hope that there are Bulgarian-speaking members of the OTRS team, in case we have an occasion to bother them :-D →Spiritia 21:44, 29 December 2008 (UTC)
- I guess I understand what your feelings may be about all this. As an additional anecdote, I just want to tell you that architects (and sometimes sculptors as well, but above all architects) in France can be really, really annoying with the rights they have, and they do not hesitate to sue you. In the building where I work, we're not allowed to use curtains at the windows, because it affects the building's image, and the architect threatened to sue us. It's not exactly what the FOP issue is, but our courts are crowded with stupid cases like that, almost always won by rights holders (the Eiffel tower illuminations story is pretty absurd as well, if you don't know it yet it should be somewhere around COM:L).
- Apart from that, I'd be glad if we get an authorization to keep Atanasoff's monument. I was watching Atanasoff's article on fr:WP when it was included to illustrate it. --Eusebius (talk) 11:01, 30 December 2008 (UTC)

Same story with File:BStefanov.jpg. The third upload File:Vasila 1.JPG, is again tagged with PD-self but now the source is Rositsa Stefanova, newspaper "Reporter", Silistra. OTRS
File:The Rhodopes on The Paths Of Orpheus And Eurydice Project Map.svg и File:The Rhodopes on The Paths Of Orpheus And Eurydice Project Brochure.svg, Поздрави --Chech Explorer (talk) 16:39, 9 April 2009 (UTC)
→Spiritia 13:42, 11 April 2009 (UTC)

[edit]Hi. I have one question to you. Do you remember, which tram type is in this photo File:Tram-inside.JPG? I think, that this is Tatra T6A2, but I'm not completely confident. And I suppose that photos File:Tram-front-control-board.JPG, File:Tram-rear-control-board.JPG and File:Tram-perforator.JPG are from the same tram (according to exif). --Harold (talk) 09:31, 31 May 2009 (UTC)
- Yeah, all photos are from one and the same tram, and i also think that it is of the precise model you point out. It might be harder for recognition because of these green advertising labels... →Spiritia 16:08, 31 May 2009 (UTC)

Balchik Palace 30.jpg.
More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.BotMultichillT 02:17, 8 September 2009 (UTC)

Upload a new version of this file. --Izvora (talk) 06:27, 23 October 2009 (UTC)
→Spiritia 09:53, 25 October 2009 (UTC)

Category:Students Town
Picture:Bulgaria-Sofia-Students-town.jpg.
Mishobg12 (talk) 00:19, 6 December 2009 (UTC)

[edit]File tagging File:Iskra-Angelova.jpg
[edit]This media may be deleted.
|
Thanks for uploading File:Iskra-Angelova.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.
Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own). Warning: unless the permission information is given, the file may be deleted after seven days. Thank you. |

Apcbg (talk) 11:31, 10 February 2010 (UTC)
При качването само трябва да се попълнят и шаблоните en:Template:Non-free fair use in и en:Template:Non-free use rationale. →Spiritia 12:51, 11 February 2010 (UTC)
--5ko (talk) 20:05, 14 February 2010 (UTC)

Copyright status: File:Strong--weak--no-correlation.png
[edit]This media may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading File:Strong--weak--no-correlation.png. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.
If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.) If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there. Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you. |

Spiritia 11:19, 6 May 2010 (UTC)

Hello, I am somewhat worried about photos from this source. As you stated in the template text, and as it is written at lostbulgaria.com term of use all photos are available only for non commercial usage. Such restrictions are in clear violation of main licensing policy where all content must be usable for any purpose including commercial one. Also I couldn't find any references to Creative Commons Attribution 2.0. Is there any other permissions (OTRS?) to justify the template and remove "non commercial" restrictions from it? --Justass (talk) 18:03, 27 May 2010 (UTC)
- I think that the template itself does not impend non-commercial restrictions, but explains that on the original location the content is licensed as non-commercial while there is explicit permission for usage in Wikimedia with sole condition for attribution. (As far as I know, it is legally possible for the copyright holder to license one content in different ways.) In the email discussion which I had with the copyright holder and owner of the website, he asked me about the ways to send this explicit permission and I provided him with the properly completed template from Commons:OTRS per our talk. He agreed with the rules of Wikimedia and I am somehow surprised that the permission has not been sent yet (I am not OTRS member). I will write him again now to understand if there is any problem. In the meanwhile, shall I forward our correspondence? →Spiritia 17:55, 29 May 2010 (UTC)
- Thank you for the clarification. I am not OTRS member too so cant assist in this and just come across this template following recently uploaded images. Maybe Commons:OTRS/Noticeboard could help or at least say do they got any email --Justass (talk) 18:25, 29 May 2010 (UTC)
- Unfortunately, after additional correspondence with the copyright holder, he claimed that he had only wanted to give exclusive rights to Wikipedia, without further downstream usage... which of course is no more "our case". I'll delete the template and the photos. →Spiritia 21:11, 7 June 2010 (UTC)

[edit]Hello Spiri, long time no "see". I don't know if you remember me, but you're the only admin on commons I "know". I kind of need a quick administrator action, namely, the renaming of a file I uploaded today. Just take a look at the request at File:Female1.svg and you'll get what I mean. I was in quite a hurry so I didn't double check everything before uploading it and so I ended up with the wrong file name.
Edal (talk) 15:03, 11 October 2010 (UTC)
→Spiritia 11:23, 13 October 2010 (UTC)
:) →Spiritia 16:41, 20 December 2010 (UTC)

Lelmerion (talk) 14:29, 13 March 2011 (UTC)
-- Lelmerion (talk) 15:37, 13 March 2011 (UTC)

→Spiritia 15:42, 15 March 2011 (UTC)

Need help
[edit]Hi Spiritia. I have a problem with one admin and his behaviour. There is one file uploaded by a Greek nationalist and as you can see from the discussions here all involved users were against keeping this image, but the admin left it. It would be acceptable if he let me correct it, but I could not since he blocked it and I cannot upload correct image. Because you are familiar with these Balkan things, can you take some actions, please? The author of the map is blocked for personal attacks and the admin does not want to talk. The maps is imaginative, POV, represents false data and it is offensice (name). I hope you understand, best, --MacedonianBoy (talk) 15:28, 10 May 2011 (UTC)
- Hello. No, I am not really familiar with "these Balkan things", neither with the historical, nor the political, nor the linguistic issues. I would advise you to contact the administrator and explain the problem again, calmly and patiently, considering in advance any aforementioned reasons of his behaviour: they probably are purely legitimate. Sorry for answering so late, I was on a short vacation away from computer. Regards, →Spiritia 06:41, 14 May 2011 (UTC)

--Izvora (talk) 17:28, 25 May 2011 (UTC)
→Spiritia 09:48, 26 May 2011 (UTC)
Молбата ми е да направиш една подкатегория към категорията Ethnic groups in Tanzania със заглавие Datoga People.

→Spiritia 10:29, 24 November 2011 (UTC)
File:Burgas Zar Asen1.jpg? --Vammpi (talk) 10:49, 24 November 2011 (UTC)
→Spiritia 10:57, 24 November 2011 (UTC)

Mikhail Petkov (talk) 10:38, 28 February 2012 (UTC)
→Spiritia 19:27, 29 February 2012 (UTC)
Mikhail Petkov (talk) 14:06, 5 March 2012 (UTC)
→Spiritia 15:26, 5 March 2012 (UTC)
--Mikhail Petkov (talk) 15:39, 5 March 2012 (UTC)
--Mikhail Petkov (talk) 03:23, 10 March 2012 (UTC)
→Spiritia 17:16, 10 March 2012 (UTC)

→Spiritia 06:18, 10 June 2012 (UTC)

- Thank you for your interest in resolving the case. Forwarded correspondence between me and Mr. Zankov will do, right? - I'm not an OTRS member, so I left a message at Commons:OTRS/Noticeboard#Alexander_Zankov_images. If Evgeni or you can write a message in English to OTRS, that would be better. Since it takes a while for OTRS tickets to get processed, it doesn't matter if it takes a while - but I expect a Bulgarian message might cause problems, we don't have too many Bulgarian speakers AFAIK...
Sofia
[edit]Hi Spiritia,
I wanted to create a category Banishora (a district of Sofia; квартал = Neighbourhood). But Sofia has strange (at least for germans) administrative units: Municipalities, Neighbourhoods and Districts. In Category:Sofia there are three different subcategories. Only insiders may realise, that they are related with each other. I would prefer to put these three categories together, for instance in Category:Administrative units of Sofia or Category:Districts, Municipalities and Neighbourhoods of Sofia or even better Category:Districts of Sofia . An outsider will hardly know whether Ovtcha Kupel, Banishora or Krasno selo are Municipalities or Neighbourhoods of Sofia. Therefore I would prefer only one common category for all this administrative units, where I (and all others) can easily find them all in alphabetic order. And I would like to give the subcategories names with appended exact administrativ name: for instance Mladost(Municipality), Category:Lozenets (Neighbourhood). What do you think? You can answer me in bulgarian (I have no bulgarian keyboard). --Bin im Garten (talk) 16:27, 7 December 2012 (UTC)
- The problem is more difficult than what you think :) Given that English in not official in BG, the administrative divisions on all levels are a complete terminological mess. District here in BG context I have only used in the sense of 28 administrative divisions of the whole country (област, having a district centre, a big town, and usually several smaller towns and numerous villages). I haven't met "district" as a subdivision in the frames of a single town. On the contrary, some области have chosen to name themselves districts, and others -- regions. In the meanwhile, English Wikipedia names all these as "provinces". See the diversity:

On the level of towns only,I believe that only the several biggest cities like Sofia and Plovdiv have sophisticated administrative subdivisions. I see for Sofia Municipality 24 districts -- http://sofia.bg/en/display.asp?ime=council and these actually comprise 38 "settlements" (населени места), 4 of which are separate towns: Sofia, Bankya, Bujovo and Novi Iskar, and 34 villages. On the contrary, of these 24 districts those which cover Sofia are subdivided in what you say neighbourhoods (or quarter, or living estate?)... квартали in Bulgarian. For instance, Izgrev District where I live comprises 3 квартала: Izgrev, Iztok and Dianabad... Lozenets District comprises квартали Lozenets, Vitosha (not to be mistaken with Vitosha District) and Hladilnika. So, it's a real mess. And has to be sorted out sooner or later, but better have it sorted simultanously here and in English WP. And we have to consider both official websites/documents. For what you suggest, it's probably best to have the explanatory noun together with the name. Unfortunately, I don't have as much time as I'd like to make a thorough research right now. So if you would like to discuss it, probaby the BG WP Village Pump is a good starting point: bg:У:Р. →Spiritia 10:00, 8 December 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks, I raised the question for Sofia there: bg:У:Р#София. With the names for the provinces I dont see the problem (at least for de:WP): in german Wikipedia we call them all Oblast (very easy); община is "Gemeinde". --Bin im Garten (talk) 16:49, 8 December 2012 (UTC)
Archeology in the Center of Sofia
[edit]Since 2 years there are archological findings in the very center of Sofia on exposition. We should have a special Category for this - File:Sofia Center walk with free sofia tour 2012 PD 028.jpg. Or do we have allready? How could we name this Category?
- Category: Archeological findings at Independence square ? (but in front of ZUM is not Independence square)
- Category: Archeological findings in the center of Sofia ?
- Category: Archeological findings in roman Serdica ?
--Bin im Garten (talk) 17:35, 23 December 2012 (UTC)
- Hello. Your options 2 and 3 are rather general, and not enough informative. Option 1 somehow misses to mention that the place is it's Sofia / Sedica. There might be "Independence" squares elsewhere. The project's official name (see here) is "Ancient Cultural and Communication Complex Serdica". If this seems to you too long, how about Category:Archaeological Complex Serdica or Category:Serdica Archaeological Complex? →Spiritia 17:50, 23 December 2012 (UTC)
Old Sofia
[edit]I would like to copy all pictures from www.stara-sofia.com/ and upload them on Commons (only the pictures that are older than 70 years). Would this be a copyright violation? The guys from stara-sofia.com didn't take the pictures themselves, they just scanned them. For me it is the same like with the pictures in Category:Samokov History Museum. These pictures are taken from the museum-staff. Nobody asked them, wether they agree "there photographies" of the old paintings to be used in Commons. They are even not very happy with this (I spoke personaly with them). Maybe the guys from stara-sofia.com are ready to sell there pictures (in higher resolution) for Commons. Though I doubt that they will sell most of there pictures for a reasonable price, would you try to contact them and to ask for there price? I personally would participate with two thousand Lewa. --Bin im Garten (talk) 10:25, 25 December 2012 (UTC)
Freedom of panorama in Bulgaria
[edit]Hi again Spiritia, how about freedom of panorama in Bulgaria? Not at all!? Commons:Freedom of panorama/table. Can you give me a link to the bulgarian law? Untill now I found only regular deletion activities in Category:SS. Cyril and Methodius National Library. What is your advice? To take no pictures of "modern" buildings? To include the neighbouring buildings also in the picture? To ask the architect for the CC3-copyright? The longer I think, the more I realize that this has terrible consequences for my photos on Commons. I have seen this with pictures from Moscow: some "activists" start slowly and after their first "victories" they start with mass deletion requests. I would appreciate when you inform me (preferrably on my german discussion page) when you see deletion discussion about bulgarian pictures (because of No-FOP). Then I could copy them to the german Wikipedia. There they don't care about bulgarian No-FOP (en:Lex loci protectionis). --Bin im Garten (talk) 12:35, 28 December 2012 (UTC)

[edit]This media may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading File:Plovdiv-Konstantin-Stoilov-house-plaque1.jpg.
Thank you. |

Thanks for uploading File:Plovdiv-Konstantin-Stoilov-house.jpg.
- Thanks for the notifications, obviously they were due to an incidental omission of mine, repeated three times in a row. That's because I'm still quite used to the oldest file upload form that allows use of the Back browser button, keeping the input data in the text box from the previous upload. →Spiritia 11:07, 10 April 2013 (UTC)

Picture of the Year 2013 R2 Announcement
[edit]Round 2 of Picture of the Year 2013 is open!
[edit]- ⧼Wikibase-terms/Archive⧽: Deutsch, Ελληνικά, English, français, magyar, italiano, македонски, 日本語, русский, svenska
Dear Wikimedians,
Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2013 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the eighth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2013) to produce a single Picture of the Year.
Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.
There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. The top 30 overall and the most popular image in each category have continued to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just one image to become the Picture of the Year.
Round 2 will end on 7 March 2014. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Commons:Picture_of_the_Year/2013/Introduction/en Click here to learn more and vote »]
Thanks,

[edit]Hello. Could you please have a conversation with this user about verifying permission through OTRS? This user has a lot of uploads that might actually be his/hers, if s/he is associated with a publicity firm. However, they might just be images scraped from the internet.
Could you ping me when you have a response?
Thanks. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 19:52, 4 January 2015 (UTC)
- @Magog the Ogre:
- Thank you very much for this notification. I deleted several images, which were obvious violations and I wrote this evening a long email explaining the situation and asking for honesty and cooperation. From the contributions and short presentation of the user in her/his (I think "her", but not 100% sure) talkpage in BGWP, it is a good faith editor, with encyclopedic scope of contributions, but completely confused and ignorant about copyrights and image sourcing. It is possible however that part of the images are truly self produced, despite the large share of violations. I believe that the offwiki communication in this case will really prove to be more successful and beneficial for all. Bests, →Spiritia 21:45, 5 January 2015 (UTC)
- This morning (I'm UTC+2), I just got a reply from Giada Marini, who was very eager to fix all the problems with her deleted uploads. She is the PR manager of some of the photoed subjects, personal friend of others. So far she has sent to me 4 photos in high resolution, which she has taken, and which in low resolution have been or are to be deleted. In a second email later today I will explain to her in details the free licenses and will ask her to provide permission in the OTRS email template.
- Since the last time I have collaborated with the OTRS team was some years ago, and things may have changed, Would you like to have all the email correspondence forwarded, or just the official permission (when that comes). →Spiritia 06:37, 6 January 2015 (UTC)
- @Magog the Ogre:
- You might have seen the page User:Spiritia/Giada_Marini with a thorough research of all available and deleted uploads of Giada Marini. After the communications with Giada during this week, I uploaded today the original files, which she sent me, under the CC-BY-SA-4.0, as we discussed that will be more appropriate than CC-Zero (inapplicable in Bulgaria). I prepared for Giada the permission, following the email template, and she is expected to send it to the permission-commons email by herself. Just in case, I have sent a blind copy to the OTRS team, too. I hope that she'll manage sending the permission, as I felt that she's not quite technically minded. In addition, shall I translate to English all our correspondence from the week? →Spiritia 18:43, 11 January 2015 (UTC)

--Izvora (talk) 17:55, 2 June 2015 (UTC)
--Izvora (talk) 18:14, 2 June 2015 (UTC)
;) Уви следващите няколко дни почти няма да съм онлайн, обаче Водно конче, Лорда и Влади Неделев ще са на разположение и ще реагират. these pictures I uploaded on Wikimedia Commons, because I not can upload in Armenian Wikibooks, because there when I click "Upload file" then redirected here. Now these pictures need a delete?, and how I can to keep these pictures --Vadgt (talk) 11:51, 9 August 2015 (UTC)
- Screenshots of proprietary software? I am afraid there is no way to keep them here.
- But I checked the situation with the upload in the Armenian Wikiquote. It reads "Permission error: You do not have permission to upload this file, for the following reason: The action you have requested is limited to users in the group: Administrators." Ask a local administrator to upload these images instead of you. That should work, and then the images will be deleted from here.
- Please, keep me informed. →Spiritia 21:37, 10 August 2015 (UTC)
- Sorry in Armenian Wikibooks. Please say something for keep these pictures. --Vadgt (talk) 17:40, 11 August 2015 (UTC)
- Oh yes, I must have been sleeping. Please check if the nature of the mistake is the same. For some strange reason, I am not able to login to armenian wikibooks. If this is again the case, contact a local administrator to make the upload instead of you. As I said, images of proprietry software cannot be freely licensed, i.e. used here. →Spiritia 22:57, 12 August 2015 (UTC)

- Thank you for notifying me, @Dsprc: . I wrote an explanation to the user on his talk page. It was so nice that you found me being one of the organizers of the Wiki Loves Monuments. I have to admint that being first-timers in "Wiki Loves X" this year, we have probably made some mistakes and some users may have has certain difficulties contributing. On the other hand, we have already obtained more than 1000 images so far, which makes me think that the problem is in the generally more sophisticated way of uploading content to Commons, in comparison to other platforms. :) →Spiritia 17:05, 24 September 2015 (UTC)

- File:Garegin-nzhdeh-portrait.jpg,
- File:G.Njdeh.jpg [17]
- File:Garegin Njdeh house Sofia.jpg [18]
- File:Garegin Njdeh founding of Tseghakron Boston 1933.jpg [19]
- File:Garegin Njdeh Balkan Wars 1913.png [20]
6AND5 (talk) 10:49, 10 October 2015 (UTC)
:) →Spiritia 12:15, 10 October 2015 (UTC)
Thank you.--6AND5 (talk) 12:30, 10 October 2015 (UTC)
Thank you.--6AND5 (talk) 12:30, 10 October 2015 (UTC)

:) →Spiritia 14:09, 4 January 2016 (UTC)
English versions of Wikipedia mindmaps
[edit]Dear Vassia,
My compliments on your Wikipedia mindmaps in Bulgarian. They're wonderful. :)
Are there English versions of them? And, if not, could we please commission a translation?
These illustrations are a great resource for the global education community on Outreach wiki.
I'd love to do this exercise with my own students, as you did here. And it would help a lot to have a better idea of what your students collectively created as a model/example/guide.
Msannakoval (talk) 11:40, 16 February 2016 (UTC)
- Not impossible. I'l think how it will be easiest to proceed with the translation and the respective new visualization. Oh and many thanks for the uploaded notes from September... :))))) →Spiritia 20:21, 21 February 2016 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading File:20160406 BAS PhD forum Wikipedia in Science - Whether, When and How no-fairuse.pdf. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics)
[edit]In other languages (translate this)
|
---|
|
Thank you for uploading some images!
Did you know that Wikimedia Commons recommends the SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) format for certain types of images? Scalable Vector Graphics are designed to look appropriate at any scale, and SVG images are easier to modify and translate, helping Wikimedia to distribute knowledge to all of the world. A lot of modern programs support SVG export. If you encountered problems or have questions, don't hesitate to ask me, a member of the Graphic Lab, or the Graphics village pump. Uploading images in SVG format isn't mandatory, but it would help. (To avoid any misunderstandings, please don't just put raster images into an SVG container as embedded raster.) Thanks, and happy editing!

Gorna Bela Rechka
[edit]Dear Spiritia!
I am native-speaking German, so sorry for my poor English. It seems to my that you are interested in this little village in Bulgaria as you put two photos to commons. Thank you for that. If you have more: please load them up as I am sitting on an article about Bela Rechka. When ready I will translate for the enWP. The reason I write you is a question I have. Could it be possible that you know somebody who could be interested in translating an article to the Bulgarian language? I wrote an article about en:Diana Ivanova, an interesting person I think. And she does a lot for Gorna Bela Rechka. You will find more about in the article. I translated the article and put it here to the enWP. I think it would be wonderful if this article could also exist in the bgWP. But I do neither speak Bulgarian nor can read it. I asked some Bulgarian friends to translate but they all are too busy with other things and are not so much interested in working for WP.
All the best --Andrea014 (talk) 06:53, 23 May 2016 (UTC)
- Hello, Andrea! I happen to know Diana personally, and the reason you see these images from Gorna Bela Rechka uploaded is one of the early editions of her GoatMilk Festival. While I am currently not very free myself to write an article she deserves (I am concurrently in the organization of a aarticle writing contest m:Wikimedia_CEE_Spring_2016 and the photocontest Commons:Wiki_Loves_Earth_2016_in_Bulgaria), I'd love to help for writing the article later this year. :) Thanks for writing it in English! →Spiritia 06:59, 23 May 2016 (UTC)
- Thank you for the quick answer. It is wonderful. I also know Diana personally. If you see her, give some hugs from me! She will be in Bela Rechka, Goatmilk starts. I think there is no hurry. I just wanted to let you know that an article (in German & English) already exists and that everybody can translate by copy & paste. The links: perfect. So I contacted the best person. :-) If you want to contact me, please use my German account as I am not so often here. Have a nice time. --Andrea014 (talk) 09:05, 23 May 2016 (UTC)
- Dear Spiritia! The english version of the article Gorna Bela Rechka is done! The translation was made by a new colleague. She arrived 3 weeks ago in WP and helps me so wonderful with translation (I know her: IrmaCan). So if you ever have time and energy to bring the article to the bgWP: feel free! Best wishes --Andrea014 (talk) 15:59, 3 October 2016 (UTC)
Thanks for Spiritia
