I'm curious why this file was deleted, as it was under Canada Crown copyright starting in 1957, and the term for Crown copyright in Canada is 50 years (see Commons:Copyright rules by territory#Canada). Was the file lacking licence information? (It's not particularly important, as File:Coat of Arms of Canada (1957).png can be used in its place. I just wanted clarification about it.) Regarding 1966 FIFA World Cup Photograph

Hello INeverCry,A Very Good Day to You :)
First and Foremost I am very Glad to see you back in Wiki Commons :) Someone has applied a Deletion tag onto a Photograph Uploaded by me,He claims that I have not provided sufficient information on its copyright status,But that is utter Bullshit :( ,Please Clarify this :) .

Happy Holidays!
G'day, just a quick greeting wishing you and your family happy holidays and all the best for 2014. And of course, a big thank you for putting a leg up by doing what you do on Commons, and helping to make it the fantastic project that it is. Greetings from a warm west coast of Aussie. russavia (talk) 01:35, 24 December 2013 (UTC)

Gruss --Nightflyer (talk) 23:09, 25 December 2013 (UTC)

I am the owner of the file Koh Kteah and i am also the owner of kohrong-samloem.com, where i have the image published in a different form, size etc. I hope that we are through with it, this time. I submitted the file at wiki-commons in the regular way, but a variety of users does have a problem with that. The image has been deleted once - without any feasible justification. There is an obvious dilemma gtoing on and i have the impression, the wiki community would be greatly advised to redefine certain regulations especially in respect to people, who provide knowledge. On top of that, i live in a country, where due to a number of reasons, information and knowledge from reliable primary sources is very hard towards impossible to obtain. In quite many cases, me and the people of my social surroundings - are the primary source, though. I have - as most of the other users - a regular job and sacrifice my spare time here. Although i am a developer, i am rather untrained with these wiki tags. Hence my bad style Wikirictor Thank you for your attention

IP removing cleanup templates

Special:Contributions/91.66.153.214. --Rschen7754 19:20, 28 December 2013 (UTC)

He's adding specific categories and removing the DrTrigonBot stuff. INeverCry 19:29, 28 December 2013 (UTC)
That may be true, but it also appears that additional material is being deleted: [2] Is this appropriate? --Rschen7754 19:40, 28 December 2013 (UTC)
I think adding a specific category like Category:Erik Sommer is a lot more useful than the DrTrigonbot stuff. You're reverting the IP and removing Category:Erik Sommer, leaving the image uncatted. I'd rather have the bot spam removed than a good category. Also, this IP is creating good categories and adding them to images like this, which seems like constructive editing to me. You might be better off asking him to just add the cats and leave the bot stuff alone. INeverCry 19:51, 28 December 2013 (UTC)

Why was this file deleted? All the images in the collage were in the public domain as per the Wikimedia policy, and no reason was given. Amitabho (talk) 08:30, 2 January 2014 (UTC)

I've restored the final revision and switched to keep. INeverCry 16:07, 2 January 2014 (UTC)
I would request to delete it again, the collage still contains many non-free images (like this one) which are under deletion request, few have already been deleted (like this one but is still there in the source}. The user is uploading files falsely claiming that they are in public domain (like this one) and changing the non-free use rationales of many existing images into public domain licenses (like this one) to use those images in the collage.--Kmzayeem (talk) 10:23, 3 January 2014 (UTC)
The collage also lacks a source for an image, as there are 36 images but sources for only 35.--Kmzayeem (talk) 15:06, 3 January 2014 (UTC)
Since he already seems to have put some effort into fixing issues, I would suggest you file another deletion request on this image to give him time to fix the other problems. INeverCry 19:01, 3 January 2014 (UTC)

Hi, thanks for the echo notification: The file was temporically restored by me in July 2012 to get a permission by the copyright holder (it is easier for them to check when they can have a look at the picture). This permission never arrived and the file was subsequently deleted. Unfortunately it was now uploaded again without handling this first with the OTRS team. I second the deletion and Jim's closure of the corresponding request at COM:UDEL. --AFBorchert (talk) 08:56, 4 January 2014 (UTC)

Request

Hi INeverCry,

I have not been on Commons much except for clearing out file rename requests. Could you please remove my autopatroller tool because I haven't been really using it (I had been using it for my image uploads and category creations, something I am not currently doing). Thanks. Sportsguy17 (TC) 22:54, 29 December 2013 (UTC)

Do you mean you want the filemover right removed? Autopatrol is for indicating trusted users, which you certainly still are, and I've only seen it removed in cases where the editor was blocked for disruption. It's ok to have the filemover right and not use it for a while, but if you really want it removed I can do that. I would prefer not to remove autopatroller though. INeverCry 23:05, 29 December 2013 (UTC)
No, I meant remove my autopatroller tool, but if you do not want to, that's fine, I'm willing to keep the tool in case I ever do use it. Thanks. Sportsguy17 (TC) 02:45, 30 December 2013 (UTC)
All that the autopatroller right does is automatically mark your edits as patrolled any time you edit. This helps patrollers sift through recent changes, new pages, etc. It's not actually a tool that you "use" per se: it's more of a filter. INeverCry 02:56, 30 December 2013 (UTC)
I really see the lack of patrollers now. 301 patrollers (including me) + 264 admins versus > 20000 edits. JianhuiMobile (talk) 06:16, 3 January 2014 (UTC)
Some admins/patrollers needs {{Patrol}} to remind them (they don't even patrol their talk pages). --Zhuyifei1999 (talk) 08:01, 4 January 2014 (UTC)

Dubious renaming requests

Hello INeverCry,

Please check user:HHubi's activity in making renaming requsts on Russian Imperial Army insignia. I'm not sure that File:Russian Imperial Army OF3 Major.png is to be renamed to File:IRA F3Maj 1917 h.png. It rather looks like changing accurate names into misleading ones. I can't find this abbreviation ([4], en:IRA) and I'm positive that Major is better than Maj. Thank you, Sealle (talk) 10:46, 8 January 2014 (UTC)

I've seen uniform/mechanical naming systems like this used with insignias, COAs, flags, etc. I rarely handle renaming though, so you may want to either talk to the user doing the requests or post at AN or VP. INeverCry 18:40, 8 January 2014 (UTC)

Clarion cover deletion?

You removed https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File_talk:Clarion_Number_16.jpg, which I own the copyright on and released under CC license. What's the situation? Was there some discussion or review of this decision? --Civilizeme (talk) 13:57, 10 January 2014 (UTC)

With cover images, we require OTRS confirmation of the license from the copyright holder. In this case, you indicated that Clarion Magazine is published by Pen & Anvil Press with Boston University. We would need an email giving permission for hosting this cover on Commons from Pen & Anvil Press to be sent to OTRS. INeverCry 18:35, 10 January 2014 (UTC)
Well enough. Who is we? If this is an official policy, why did it not appear during the uploading process?--Civilizeme (talk) 13:28, 11 January 2014 (UTC)
"We" is Commons. As for copyright info, COM:CB would be hard to integrate into the uploading process, as would COM:L. These are naturally complex and extensive. In regard to your image, our interest is in protecting the copyright of Pen & Anvil Press. We can't just assume you represent them with no evidence. INeverCry 19:41, 11 January 2014 (UTC)

Deleted image info request & image request

Re your probably proper deletion per Commons:Deletion_requests/File:Anne-Francis-1.jpg. Since the image has been deleted (and the deletion process always (grr) deletes the wikipage containing the image file, rather than simply adding a placeholder and revdeling the offending image), I can't now see any of the information alleged to be false in the deletion request. I'd like to see that deleted wikitext - can that be userfied or copied to my Talk page? I'd also like the image to be emailed to me, so I can research it, and if needed, re-upload to Wikipedia as non-free with proper attribution. The subject is deceased, and so the image is permitted in biographical articles as fair use. Thank you. {{YGM}} --Lexein (talk) 01:49, 13 January 2014 (UTC)

The disruptive IP editor at User talk:Shizhao

Regarding the hidden revisions on User talk:Shizhao, would it be possible that I know what the contents of those comments were? This person is doing the same thing on the Chinese Wikipedia (IP hopping from the same Hong Kong ISP and making attacks against editors), and I'm thinking of starting a Sockpuppet Investigation there, however I'd like to consolidate what available evidence I have at the moment. The revisions were hidden too quickly before I could read them (which is a good thing), so I can't really make a behaviourial argument without actually seeing what was actually written. -- 李博杰  Talk contribs 00:50, 15 January 2014 (UTC)

Hi, regarding the deletion request for Round_Island(Scillonia)2.jpg, it was deleted and restored with new source information however I was under the impression because the photograph is not being published for the first time here we needed something more then just a licence template claiming the author releases the work to the public domain given the uploader doesn't appear to be the photographer? Thank you. Cube00 (talk) 11:49, 15 January 2014 (UTC)

Query with regard to bot block

Hi, on IRC at 17:30 today, someone using the same name as GuilesDitzel (talk · contribs) was complaining that they set up the account intending to upload 300 photos of birds and places. Just waiving a flag here for you to think about it. If there was room for error on this one, it may be worth approaching this account for more details. -- (talk) 19:07, 15 January 2014 (UTC)

Imho this could've been a mistake. Spambots usually don't get an account on loginwiki, and this one get one. And the CU info is inconclusive. Trijnsteltalk 19:10, 15 January 2014 (UTC)
I unblocked that account. --Dschwen (talk) 19:15, 15 January 2014 (UTC)
The spambot name, home country, and Project Honeypot IP result were a bit iffy, so I erred on the side of caution, erred being the operative word. Thanks for catching this Ashley, and DS for the unblock. I've fixed the talkpage, etc. INeverCry 19:22, 15 January 2014 (UTC)

Hi, INeverCry. Would you do me a small favour, please. I just uploaded File:WWII-memorial-Krakow-Plaszo.jpg unaware that there were unintended errors in the name of the new file, generated by a dialogue box. Hello there, with much apologies for this annoyance, could you please delete this ? I mistakenly created it before remembering how to work out the phrasing of categs titles so that they fit right int he categs that they go in, AND before remembering that I could not delete it myself. (really sorry, it's getting so 'late' that it's just about getting past 'unreasonably early', here. I can't even remember how to write that categ so that you just have to click on it to access it :/ or maybe it's gone now? or is it?? I'd have sworn it was created, and even had 2 pics in it for about 15 mns. Or was it??? donnow. too many tabs open. it's a mess. So, please do check if it's clean or not, and please would you clean it if it's not... No emergency but for that. Thank you in advance, and good year wishes at that :) Basicdesign (talk) 04:51, 18 January 2014 (UTC)

Hi, and happy new year to you too. As for the above, that cat has never existed. When you look things over again, (preferably not in so many tabs ), let me know if you find anything that needs deleting. INeverCry 06:02, 18 January 2014 (UTC)

hello, i would like to block and delete my accounts on wikipedia and wikicommons

Hi INeverCry. This logo only consists of simple geometric shapes and/or text. It does not meet the threshold of originality needed for copyright protection, and is therefore in the public domain. You can see it from here. Have a nice day.--Rapsar (talk) 22:36, 18 January 2014 (UTC)

The logo creatively incorporates a filmstrip design, which I think is enough to put it over TOO. You can post this at COM:UDEL for more opinions though. INeverCry 23:09, 18 January 2014 (UTC)

Need some help/advice, please.

Was working on an en.WP file for en:Sam 'n' Henry and noticed this file File:Sam n henry.gif. Was able to fix things with it because I had the copyright info for the book. But can't "fix" the rest of this user's uploads because there's no information about where the photos/images really came from. I don't believe the user uploaded in bad faith/intent to upload copyrighted material, but that he/she just doesn't understand that while you may take a scan of a book cover or photo, it doesn't make you the owner of any copyright that may exist for it. Where do we go from here? Thanks! We hope (talk) 18:08, 19 January 2014 (UTC)

This image

Do you have any ideas on this image--whether it is OK or not? It a hard call, I think--the uploader's claims although it is used on wikipedia. Best Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 22:20, 19 January 2014 (UTC)

I've put in a delete vote. INeverCry 22:36, 19 January 2014 (UTC)
Copyright concerns have to be addressed. As long as this is done in a respectful manner, we're doing the right thing. INeverCry 22:59, 19 January 2014 (UTC)
  • Thank you. As an aside, is it safe to pass this image since I don't know who own the image rights--Getty Images or the Photographer here who has 27,000 images on his flickr account:
  • File:Trey Burke defends Vince Carter.jpg

If you're tired, please feel free to say so and perhaps someone else will tag or pass/fail this image. Or I'll ask someone else. I think the photographer's statement "NOTE TO USER: User expressly acknowledges and agrees that, by downloading and or using this photograph, User is consenting to the terms and conditions of the Getty Images License Agreement. Mandatory Copyright Notice: Copyright 2013 NBAE (Photo by Danny Bollinger/NBAE via Getty Images)" might cover Commons...but what do I know. If its OK, it should be placed in the image talkpage. Kind Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 01:07, 20 January 2014 (UTC)

That image may be a problem if he took it as part of work for the NBA. The NBA/Getty might own the copyright. I noticed that in this image from the same flickr user, it looks like an image taken on his own for himself. A DR may be a good idea for the above image, or allowing someone who knows more about these than me to review it, or posting a question at COM:VP/C. INeverCry 02:06, 20 January 2014 (UTC)

Can you please examine the deleted page histories of the following enwiki pages?

Did Tablizer ever claim to be the creator of that diagram? Presently, File:Archimedes_Heat_Ray_conceptual_diagram.png lists "PNG crusade bot" as the diagram's sole author, and that's obviously incorrect. Deletion question

Hi INeverCry I dont know why you deleted file:noqol.jpg. or in Persian پرونده:Noqol.jpg We used this Photo from my friend weblog in which he clearly has written using this photos are free if the its resource (his weblog) be mentioned. I have mentioned the resource (his weblog ) as resource. this photo is an Amatory photo of a village in Iran. may you undelete this photo with special Thanks sarzamin80

There doesn't seem to be a direct statement at http://peyamnama.blogfa.com/post/362 regarding copyright of the images, including this one. He would have to indicate a free license, either under that particular image, saying it's released under a free license, or at the bottom of the page, saying all the images are released under a free license. INeverCry 22:43, 5 February 2014 (UTC)

Hi INeverCry I requested my friend to put the statement in his weblog and he did. Please check http://peyamnama.blogfa.com/1392/02 again. He has written in Persian استفاده از تصاویر این وبلاگ با ذکر منبع بلا مانع است. that means " using photos of this weblog with mention of its resource is allowed." Please undelete file:noqol.jpg Sarzamin80 with special thanks

He needs to put up an actual license such as CC-BY-SA-3.0. He has to make it clear that he understands commercial and derivative use of his image/s will be allowed if the images are hosted on Commons. INeverCry 18:14, 6 February 2014 (UTC)

Hi INeverCry how we can do it in our weblog. may to describe it for me simply. I really have been confused. more than 10 hours i searched this in Google but couldn't find how. may you practically say what should we do. I mean how we can put CC-BY-SA-3.0 in practice. which website? how? should we write just something in the weblog, if so, what? or should we register somewhere? sorry for such unrelated questions. with special thanks thanks.Sarzamin 80 thanking you

You can place text under a single image stating that it's released under {{Cc-by-sa-3.0}} or another free license, or you can place a statement at the top or bottom of the site stating that all images on the site are released under a free license such as CC-BY-SA-3.0. INeverCry 00:50, 7 February 2014 (UTC)

Hi, INeverCry, we applied CC-BY-SA-3.0. on the http://peyamnama.blogfa.com/post/362/. as you said. So please undelete file:noqol.jpg. thanks Sarzamin 80

Looks like it's been restored by another admin. INeverCry 18:43, 7 February 2014 (UTC)

Bollywood Hungama

Firstly there are a huge number of unreviewed Bollywood Hungama files. I have asked another Indian editor to work there. Second, I am seeing an increased number of "wrong source" mention there. I feel this is happening there: an editor is selecting an image, Bollywood Hungama provides few other images thumbnail in image reel above the opened image. An editor clicks on another image. But unfortunately the image URL does not change there. You may check it here. They need to open the image from the main page. I think there should be a note for it. Fixing so many sources are problematic. Also, can you add an option "License review on hold" with an option of "custom message", where I can easily write "please give exact URL" (it is because I sometimes can't find the images) TitoDutta 17:48, 7 February 2014 (UTC)

Can you explain logic please?

You have deleted a large number of images I have uploaded. I had used the "published in US before 1923" logic for their being out of copyright. The person who asked for them to be deleted has said that this is irrelevant on the grounds that if they had been published in Afghanistan they would be copyright free. But the Wikimedia copyright explanation clearly says that "because the servers are in the US, then US copyright law applies". Thanks for any guidance on how you came to your decision. I looked for this on the talk page but there is nothing there. The notes above say "Please link the files I am asking about" but they have been deleted by you so this is impossible.Afterbrunel (talk) 10:59, 10 February 2014 (UTC)

The concern was that these images are still copyrighted in the UK. Images have to be free both in the US and in the source country to be hosted on Commons. INeverCry 02:03, 13 February 2014 (UTC)
Thank you. As you will appreciate, assembling these images to improve the readability of a Wikipedia article took me some time, and a little money. I realise that you will not have arbitrarily undone that effort, and it is clearly essential that I understand the Wikimedia rules to avoid abortive work in the future. Can you direct me please to wherever I may read the rules that you have applied them here, so that I may adhere to them in the future. As a tangible example, please indicate the application to, say, the file "First_sod_Clutton.jpg" which was a reproduction of a page from the Illustrated London News of October 17 1863. Afterbrunel (talk) 14:49, 21 February 2014 (UTC)
See COM:CRT, COM:CB, and COM:L. INeverCry 17:33, 21 February 2014 (UTC)
I am sure you do not intend to be abusive or impolite, but I am asking you a respectful question, and I would appreciate corresponding courtesy. I have spent a small amount of money and a considerable amount of time, assembling, amongst others, the image I refer to which was published in the UK and the US on 17 October 1863. You have deleted the image and it is not unreasonable for me to ask to understand your reasoning for that. You have responded that I must "see" three extremely lengthy articles. The latter two seem to me to be inapplicable and the first does not seem to justify your action. Please be courteous and and explain the specific reason for your decision. I am sure you understand that many contributors to the Wikimedia project are not irresponsible adolescents and I request that you interact appropriately with us. A polite and proper response would be appreciated. Afterbrunel (talk) 19:41, 22 February 2014 (UTC)
If you have direct evidence that the image/s is/are free in both the UK and US, you can post an undeletion request at COM:UDEL and present that evidence. INeverCry 19:58, 22 February 2014 (UTC)

Nah, just a couple days to relax. BTW, the mass rollback is a one-click tool, with no prompt. It rolls back about 30 edits per minute. Be careful if you're rolling back more than 100 edits, though, because the tool opens a new window for each page it does a rollback on, so might crash a slower/older computer. INeverCry 02:03, 13 February 2014 (UTC)

I believe that Ohnoitsjamie and I were mistaken about Dercumsdiseaseandresearch. I don't believe that Dercumsdiseaseandresearch is Kelieane / Dercumsawareness / MikeCarlos. They're promoting different ribbons. Dercumsdiseaseandresearch probably should be unblocked (along with, if I'm guessing correctly, the 67.198.74.197 address you've blocked). You should ask Ohnoitsjamie to undo the block at enwiki. Deleted file Giant_Hula_Half.jpg

Hi. I wonder if you will be able to help me understand the reason this image was deleted from Wikimedia Commons. The reason I am writing is that I try to maintain the Wikipedia page for Ashrita Furman, who holds the most Guinness records. The photo illustrates one of Mr. Furman's records.

The photographer, Bipin Larkin, donated this photo and expressly agreed to its submission to Wikimedia Commons.

When you revised the page for Ashrita Furman and deleted this photo from his article, you mentioned that the image also appears on a website called thelongestlistofthelongeststuffatthelongestdomainnameatlonglast.com. This leaves me in a somewhat difficult position, as they were never given or asked for permission to use this photo. So it is a bit of a Catch-22 that their use is being cited as a reason to remove the image.

I would be grateful if you could help me understand the reasoning behind the deletion and perhaps suggest what steps I could take to reinstate it.

Sorry to hear you're having health problems. I've been confined to a wheelchair due to paralysis since 2001, so perhaps I share some of your pain.

Thanks a lot,

The issue is that the image appeared on that site before being uploaded here. See Commons:Deletion requests/File:Giant Hula half.jpg. In order to host it here, we would need COM:OTRS permission from the copyright holder. Another alternative might be uploading an original copy of the image in high resolution and with COM:EXIF.

As for health problems, I've suffered quite a lot over the years, but I keep going as best I can. I guess it's a bit better than the alternative. I wish you the best with your own challenges. INeverCry 02:05, 19 February 2014 (UTC)

Picture of the Year 2013 R2 Announcement

Round 2 of Picture of the Year 2013 is open!

2012 Picture of the Year: A pair of European Bee-eaters in Ariège, France.

Dear Wikimedians,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2013 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the eighth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2013) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. The top 30 overall and the most popular image in each category have continued to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just one image to become the Picture of the Year.

Round 2 will end on 7 March 2014. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Commons:Picture_of_the_Year/2013/Introduction/en Click here to learn more and vote »]

Thanks,

Need some advice/help, please--again...

This user continues to upload files which are questionable re: their copyright status. About a month ago, you brought the person's uploads up for mass DR. This file was one of them File:Sam 'n' henry.gif but it had a slightly different name: File:Sam n henry.gif. The book was printed in 1926 en:File:Samhenry.gif. I did a "fix" of the file last time but I have no idea where the image was taken from. What I'm seeing in the uploads look to be images taken from websites and licensed as PD-Pre-1923, which isn't the case with the Sam 'n' Henry book, not the case with File:Texaco Star Theatre Allens Alley.jpg this one (circa 1930s to 1940s) and may not be the case with others. I think the person is just trying to get images online for whatever he/she might be editing at en:WP, but somehow needs to understand that you can't just pick a license out of the air and go with it. I'd like to see the person master the copyright tags because he/she does have some interesting items to share. Thanks in advance for help, We hope (talk) 22:47, 23 February 2014 (UTC)

I've DR'd about 30 of them: Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by Enter1your1information1below. I've also warned the user. It seems to me that if you're uploading something under a pre-1923 license, anybody would know the image has to have been published before 1923. I'm not sure how else to tell someone about such a simple, straight-forward requirement, especially after all the deletions of their previous uploads. You'd think if they cared they'd've fixed the problem by now. INeverCry 02:05, 24 February 2014 (UTC)
Thanks! Too bad we don't have a template that says "Stop uploading for a minute and listen!" I don't mind fixing things if I can, but it seems to be never ending because the user just keeps on uploading and slapping the Pre-1923 license on all of it. We hope (talk) 02:14, 24 February 2014 (UTC)

IP range unblock

Hi INeverCry; I took the liberty to unblock an IP range that you blocked back in December.

Your block for 12.197.0.0/16 was supposed to expire on February 26, but I unblocked it today to allow an English Wikipedia user to create a local account (they were prevented from doing so by your block, and I couldn't create an account for them because they already had the SUL account). If you're ever have to block that range again, I think it would be nice to give IP block exempt rights to Mathscienced. Thanks, and have a great day. odder (talk) 16:46, 24 February 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for letting me know. That's the range of a cross-wiki LTA sockmaster who was trolling one of our fellow admins, among other activities. I'll keep an eye on it. INeverCry 17:06, 24 February 2014 (UTC)

Hi.

English Wikipedia needs a copy of the recently deleted File:Windows Store logo and wordmark (green).png. (Hopefully, I can slap a fair-use rationale on it.) Could you please arrange that? (It's a shame these files are uploaded here by mistake and there is no way to tell that straightaway.)

Best regards,
Codename Lisa (talk) 00:30, 25 February 2014 (UTC)

@Codename Lisa: I've temporarily restored it so you can grab a copy. Let me know when you're done, or I'll just delete it tomorrow. INeverCry 00:48, 25 February 2014 (UTC)

Non-US old photos

Not long ago, I helped out with Category:Tower House, Kensington photos. Did a bit of reading and think I need to add PD-1923 to all of them in addition to the PD-old licenses. Right or wrong? Thanks, We hope (talk) 02:13, 26 February 2014 (UTC)

Pullen has been dead for more than 100 years. Is there any reason {{PD-old-100}}, which covers the US as well, can't be used? INeverCry 03:41, 26 February 2014 (UTC)
Not that I can think of and I'll change to PD-old-100 as of now. Thanks! We hope (talk) 03:58, 26 February 2014 (UTC)

Hi, this user has uploaded several files (some of which you deleted yesterday). I'm not sure, so I didn't tag them, but I suspect that several of them (perhaps even all) are copyvios. Thank you. I know I make mistakes and have made a few in the past months working on deletions. I thank you for your confidence that I can grow into my paws, tail and tasks of being a good mouser in the stacks of deletions and of course catagorization. Ellin Beltz (talk) 05:35, 28 February 2014 (UTC)

Mistakes are unavoidable when you do a large volume of work. I've made my share. Don't worry too much about it or be too careful, especially with deletions. I've done 150000+ deletions, working relatively quickly, and as carefully as I could without stifling myself, and I've had very few complaints and mistakes considering the huge numbers. Most complaints come from difficult DRs, rather than simple ones of course.

As for mistakes, when I was an admin on en.wiki, I once batch deleted 200+ live article talkpages with Twinkle, some from very visible articles, thinking I was deleting orphaned talkpages from a bot-created list. Luckily I realized it had been the wrong list right away, and was able to do a batch restore. Mistakes happen: you fix them and...repeat them! No wait, learn from them...I meant learn from them. INeverCry 17:26, 28 February 2014 (UTC)

Thank you for deletion Romanian CoA file redirects and one more request.

Thank you for deleting the file redirects of some historical Romanian towns and regions coat of arms. There is one more file in the same category: File:Interbelic Durustor County CoA.png. This file was some time ago moved at because the name Durustor is wrong. The corect name of the interbelic county is Durostor. I had a small conflict with one of the administrators about the deletion of the redirect with the wrong name. I'd like to ask you to also delete this redirect: File:Interbelic Durustor County CoA.png. Thank you again. Musichistory2009.

Or a small edit-war. ;) I'm not going to override a fellow admin in this case. Better to let sleeping dogs lie. INeverCry 20:07, 28 February 2014 (UTC)

I regret not speaking Arabic, but these images [7] appear rather professional, but of smaller size than one would expect a photographer to upload. The repeating names suggest this may be a set of fan pics, or a personal gallery, again, my apologies for not speaking the language, but something's making me go "mrowl." Ellin Beltz (talk) 04:42, 1 March 2014 (UTC)

Thanks Ellin. I actually did a lot of work spreading MyCanon's images to dozens of articles cross-wiki last year. Most of those are still here, but some ended up deleted. I was sad to see that particular account turn out to be a sock. I even gave him a barnstar. I think the uploads that're left have been gone over pretty good and found to be ok. The other account you mention is an unrelated serial copyvio uploader. INeverCry 05:38, 3 March 2014 (UTC)

Hello,

I think there is some misunderstanding, I have not uploaded any copyrighted material here. In image description I have provided source as well as license of particular file — Preceding unsigned comment added by ‎Vishal1811 (talk • contribs)

You can't upload images from copyrighted sources unless you have COM:OTRS permission from the copyright holder. For instance, your file File:Master headshot 2013.jpg and others came from http://sandraluesse.com/gallery/, which is clearly marked © 2013 Sandra Luesse All rights reserved. We would need Sandra Luesse to email permission to OTRS. INeverCry 15:40, 2 March 2014 (UTC)
(talk page stalker)The site actually has a notice for cc-by-4.0 (http://sandraluesse.com/imagelicense-txt/). Although User:Jespinos seems to think this was in error, I probably would accept it. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 02:17, 3 March 2014 (UTC)
I wish the uploader would have given that link upon uploading, rather than the ARR gallery link. The mix of the old 2013 ARR and the new 2014 CC might be taken to show some confusion, but I don't object to restorations if the licensing is considered to be acceptable. I won't fight too hard to keep images of an attractive woman off of Commons. ;) The original license the uploader gave would have to adjusted from 3.0 to 4.0. INeverCry 03:33, 3 March 2014 (UTC)
I think that Magog the Ogre has misinterpreted my words very likely due to my intermediate level of English. In any case, the important thing is that I still think the images may have copyright problems. Jespinos (talk) 18:21, 3 March 2014 (UTC)

Hello, need help with understanding why a photo was deleted, and maybe adding back in

Greetings,

Thank you for your work here on Commons...

I have a question about a photo that a friend recently added that I need to refer to in my wiki page under development.

Here is link: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:The_Mighty_Kevin_of_Future_Folk.jpg

The contributer of this photo is the own, his name is Nils. Can you help me understand what he needs to do to contribute this photo without it gettting deleted.

His other photos are in danger as well, including this one:

https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:General_Trius_of_Future_Folk.jpg

How can we ensure they dont get deleted?

Thank you

Remy — Preceding unsigned comment added by Remy.range (talk • contribs) 11:59, March 4, 2014‎ (UTC)

The first image you link was deleted because it had previously been published at http://www.pastemagazine.com/articles/2013/07/the-history-of-future-folk.html. The other concerns are the similar subject matter and multiple camera model use as per EXIF. Did the uploader actually hold the camera/s and take all of these images? Is he the copyright holder? If so, I would suggest he send an email to COM:OTRS giving details and evidence so that this can be sorted out. INeverCry 20:07, 4 March 2014 (UTC)

Remember?
