- It contains nonsense in the caption section. It literally says poopy poop butt. Not a candidate for educational use media. Plenty of images like this out there, not a strong contender. Rainnrainn61 (talk) 17:48, 31 January 2023 (UTC)
The image contains copyrighted material property of Ables Intimate Couples Photography and was shared without permission. Derrikisa (talk) 17:30, 31 January 2023 (UTC)
- It should be deleted. If this is a copyright infringement claim there is no reason to keep it up. There are already plenty of images of nude couples similar to this on the commons and not including the faces of the pictured couple does not increase the educational value of the image whatsoever. It looks as though the image has perhaps been altered in some way from the original. Ashleybruner (talk) 17:37, 31 January 2023 (UTC)
Echoing above nomination for copyright infringement, and you can see at the top near the woman's face there seems to be some blurring of the face. Looks like an altered image. Rainnrainn61 (talk) 18:05, 31 January 2023 (UTC)

[edit]These photos show the official mascot as well as assorted artworks (many seem to be temporal) of 2016 Taiwan Lantern Festival (w:en:2016年臺灣燈會). Per this discussion, Taiwan no longer allows commercial uses of public art without the need of artists' copyright permissions; the 2018 reply from the relevant agency was just a misunderstanding and only suggests de minimis photos of copyrighted public art can only be exploited commercially ("not the main subjects").

This image is of some dragon sculpture, which is subject to COM:FOP#Taiwan. Without knowing the author or the year of the artwork, let's take the sculpture as presumably copyrighted especially per COM:PRP. George Ho (talk) 05:41, 22 May 2018 (UTC)
- I think it is a public art. And the photo is taken by me myself. By the way, it is not a dragon, it is a snake.克勞棣 (talk) 06:18, 22 May 2018 (UTC)
- Being a "public art" is not a sufficient reason for keeping this image. Public art or not, the sculpture was or is located in Taiwan. Regardless of a photographer, the copyright of the sculpture exclusively belongs to the (unknown or unnamed) sculptor, who may have the authority to decide how photographs of the sculpture is commercially used and distributed. --George Ho (talk) 06:56, 22 May 2018 (UTC)
- Since this, should you request deletion to File:Taiwan Kaohsiung Lantern Festival.jpg, File:臺灣燈會吉羊康泰.jpg, File:2014 Taiwan Lantern Festival main lantern 20161209.jpg, File:2016年臺灣燈會主燈齊天創鴻運.jpg, File:2017 TLF main lantern 03.jpg in the same time, which are also the photographs of Taiwan Lantern Festival main lanterns? I see no differences between my photograph and them.克勞棣 (talk) 05:32, 6 June 2018 (UTC)
- I should have (re-)read COM:FOP#Taiwan (Republic of China) and CT:FOP#FOP in Taiwan. Seems that they are attempting changes to the rule for clarity. --George Ho (talk) 19:14, 10 June 2018 (UTC)

Taiwan Intellectual Property Office (TIPO) finally reverted to the original standpoint by Wikimedia Commons before 2018: that public artistic works cannot be freely used commercially if main subjects or themes of the photos (see Commons:Village pump/Copyright/Archive/2023/01#FOP Taiwan). The sculpture appears recent, its sculptor likely not yet dead for more than 50 years. JWilz12345 (Talk|Contrib's.) 01:43, 31 January 2023 (UTC)

The sculptural lantern here was incepted in 2002, for the 2002 Taiwanese Lantern Festival. A commercial license clearance from its artist or their heirs is required. JWilz12345 (Talk|Contrib's.) 01:51, 31 January 2023 (UTC)

Photo of existing photo, DW missing all essential info for the original. P 1 9 9 ✉ 18:08, 3 March 2023 (UTC)
KeepIt has the date (1985 obviously isn't the date when the digital photo was taken), the name of the photographer, and the statement "own work." What do you think it's missing, or do you somehow find it hard to believe people are still alive who took photos in 1985? I mean, sure, the uploader could have been lying, but why would you assume that? It seems to me like due diligence has been done. -- Ikan Kekek (talk) 21:22, 3 March 2023 (UTC)- No, no, no! "Own work" refers to this digital photo, not the original. As you can tell from the sheen and reflection, this is clearly a photo of a display, not a scan of a personal photo. Just compare this photo with other photos of the same tower by this uploader (all taken with the same camera at the same time).
- I have been an admin long enough to know that when someone claims "own work" for a derivative work, it almost always means own work of the derivative, not own work of the original. We are constantly deleting DW, exactly because they are claimed as own work. --P 1 9 9 ✉ 03:49, 6 March 2023 (UTC)
- The photographer stated in the first deletion request for this image that it is their own photo. You are convinced it's not, but in cases in which people are calling it "own work" only because they photographed a photograph, don't you find that they very rarely give a date for the photo other than the date they snapped the digital photo-of-a-photo? But maybe the third deletion request is the charm. We shall see. I will say this, though: looking at their other photos, I do find it strange that they were taken with different cameras and in some cases have no EXIF. So you could be right. I will reluctantly cross out my vote. -- Ikan Kekek (talk) 18:39, 6 March 2023 (UTC)

[edit]No EXIF data or other information provided that allow verification of the uploader's "own work" claim or the en:provenance of these photos. Possibly "own work", though not sure that can just be automatically assumed given all the notifications found on the uploader's user talk page. Since the uploader hasn't edited Commons since March 2021 or English Wikipedia since September 2022, tagging the file's with {{Npd}} probably would be equivalent to deleting them by default; so, after asking about them at User talk:King of Hearts#Query about some photos, I figured it's better to bring them up for discussion at DR.

@Andy Dingley: Can we expedite the process of deletion? It has been more than a month. --Ahmed (talk) 08:02, 11 February 2023 (UTC)
- Sorry, but one (of many) problems on Commons these days is a shortage of "active editors" (not just admins). There is little I, or most of us, can do to "expedite" stuff, there's just not a good route by which to do it. You would need to give a strong reason why this needs to be deleted.
- It's possible that much of Category:Al-Kheder mosque ought to be deleted, because it's a problem for copyright to photograph new and distinctive buildings in Saudi Arabia. This is because of there being no Freedom of Panorama in Saudi Arabia. This image might come under that too, and you could help by telling us when it was rebuilt and (if possible) who the architect was.
- A clear DR statement, based on Commons:Deletion policy will carry more weight and will be resolved more quickly
- I would warn you that "I am the uploader" will not carry much weight, not past 6 years anyway. See Commons:Courtesy deletions. The reasons why are complicated, but take a look at Powelliphantapatrickensis2 / AN/U VoidseekerNZ and the horrible mess that can turn into. Andy Dingley (talk) 10:57, 11 February 2023 (UTC)
- This can most likely be Deleted per COM:FOP Saudi Arabia. Historical Google Earth images of the area around 26.5634°N, 50.0791°E show that the mosque was under construction in 2009 and a completely different building occupied the site in 2005. That is too recent for PD-Old (50 years post-mortem) even if the architect would have died the same year. --HyperGaruda (talk) 15:36, 11 February 2023 (UTC)
Given no FoP in Saudi Arabia, and that this image seems to have been taken almost immediately after the constructing of the new 2016 façade, this seems to be a pretty clear-cut delete. - Jmabel ! talk 16:30, 11 February 2023 (UTC)

Uploader is claiming this as their "own work" and that it was created on 13 July 2013, but the file name implies that the photo is from 1974. The uploading of this file seems to be the only edit the uploader made to Commons, and they haven't edited on English Wikipedia since July 2013; so, I don't think asking them for clarification will lead anywhere. The uploader could've just mistaken the upload date for the creation date, but the lack of EXIF data or any other information to support the "own work" claim is a problem. The file actually looks light the primary image was cut-out from somewhere and then copied-pasted or photoshopped on to this background. Unless the there's a strong consensus to really assume good faith, I don't see how this can be kept per COM:PCP. -- Marchjuly (talk) 00:47, 31 January 2023 (UTC)

- Delete This is certainly not porn, but it's very small and I haven't found evidence that the subject is notable. If she is, we could keep the photo, but otherwise, it's a really small personal image that's not in use on Commons and therefore out of scope, as you suggest. -- Ikan Kekek (talk) 11:42, 31 January 2023 (UTC)
- Delete as the original nominator. The initial uploader/Flickr user has also uploaded File:CathMontgomery.jpg. You can find the original image at the same porn/erotica site as the above photo, which the URL indicates dates back to 2004, years before the edited image was uploaded to Flickr: https://www.metartnetwork.com/model/vera/gallery/20040101/VERA_1/ (NSFW, obviously). The Flickr account contains two other photos of the same model with a dress pasted on to make them SFW.
- I don’t think there’s any indication that the Wikipedian/Flickr user and the model are the same person, and even if they are, the photographs belong to the adult website, not the model. Adeletron 3030 (talk) 12:54, 31 January 2023 (UTC)

- Delete I found it very hard to edit on wikipedia without people deleting my work and being very rude about it. I wanted to remain anonymous as the atmosphere from wikipedians appeared toxic to me. After I added two profile pictures and a soft profile, then wikipedians WERE kinder. I created the derivative work. It didn't occur to me that copyright from the original was needed too. Sorry. It seems to me that with the tea house and other politeness initiatives, things have got a bit better on Wikipedia than 10 years ago. Plus deletions and discussions take longer, and are not as abusive. My advice to dedicated Wikipedians is to be VERY kind to the newcomers. After a while I came to the conclusion that trying to make my positive improvements to Wikipedia was not a good investment of my time. Good luck in your endeavours. I apologise for uploading the two pictures. Please go ahead and delete them, in the easiest way possible. CathMontgomery (talk) 12:18, 13 February 2023 (UTC)

So I picked the wrong license? Which license template was I supposed to use for a pseudonymous photo relating to Iraq copyright laws? Bobisland (talk) 17:10, 31 January 2023 (UTC)
- @Bobisland It's not so much about the license template. I'm questioning whether the image is in the public domain. The basic assumption is that all photographs are copyrighted unless the copyright owner specifically abandons their rights and releases the photograph into the public domain. In Iraq, copyright doesn't expire for 50 years, so we'd have to see some evidence of the owner either giving up their rights altogether or publishing the photograph under a free license. I doubt that these images are the uploader's own work. Particularly File:Leikhúsið í Mariupol eftir innrás rússa.jpg: This looks like a crop from a photo that's in use widely on news websites attributed to Reuters agency, for example here (dated 23 June 2022, so well before the Commons upload): If you look closely at the image, you see exactly the same debris in front of the building, the same car to the right etc., I would say it is the same image (cropped). The other images are of higher resolution and I couldn't find them all on other websites, but I think this makes "own work" doubtful (Exif data is missing as well); also, the uploader's name and the Icelandic "Leikhúsið ..." file name suggests an Icelander; while this is not impossible, I would find it a bit surprising that an Icelander would be in Mariupol to take drone photos at this time of war...?

COM:SCOPE question. Assuming that this uploader actually created this image and there are no issues with the various DW of the various nations/images, what educational purpose does this image provide? The image itself is not important: there are no articles or discussions about it itself. Would it be appropriate to illustrate 1968? To illustrate any of the events pictured? This seems like basically personal artwork that is humorous and fun and that can be enough of a reason to keep it but I don't see the educational purpose of it. Ricky81682 (talk) 23:00, 31 January 2023 (UTC)

- I don't have any issues with Polandball but I don't think personal artwork that illustrates things is what Commons is for. We have en:Protests of 1968 which is at Category:Demonstrations and protests in 1968 but art (even a photorealistic image) that isn't itself significant would seem out of place there. - @Jeff G. Rule # 1 of the Project scope is that content must not protected by copyright. I don't get to upload copyrighted images because I want to use them for my personal use or because I want to use them on a project. Some projects allow it but Commons does not. You are seriously asking for the Dutchball image to be kept because a derivative image that you are using could be deleted. Why not stick to the actual image in question? You didn't even create these images. You two are the ones screaming about INUSE which is irrelevant. This is the consequence of displaying on your userpage a copy of a copy of an originally copyrighted image that someone else uploaded to this project. I haven't even nominated the one that bothers you so much. I don't know why it's so bloody difficult for people to go to Microsoft Paint and create their personal ball in the style of a Ukrainian flag rather than demand that we keep a derivative work of a derivative work of a copyrighted image. - if these things got deleted, im gonna try to recreate and reupload. my work will still be so similiar with these images(for example: File:Greeceball.png, File:Turkeyball.png) . so, there should be no copyright issues?

- If you think that, then argue for that. You are arguing keep because it was in use and pinging users who's only argument seems to be "I have a derivative one on my user page so I should get to use it regardless of copyright issues." It doesn't make sense that the base source was deleted as copyrighted but the derivative ones are simple shapes so it should be public domain. Be consistent. I know that there are a lot of Polandball images derived from these sources so we should resolve this discrepancy because I don't see an endgame that isn't just a giant mess. My point is that anyone could literally make their own image in Paint today and upload that do that. Why must we keep Russavia's version? You keep shifting why without explaining the inherent discrepancy. If you think they should all be allowed, then go request undeletion of the first image and the entire issue is moot but a lot of these look literally like "I found these on the Internet" source-wise as I doubt most of the users here actually created them. Create your own balls and your own stories but it looks to me like most of the balls and stories uploaded here are here because they are popular on the internet and this is a great webhost for our amusement. I don't know why you consider all these affected images to be included in this discussion and fine if you want to. If you want to inform everyone who created them, fine as well, but let's keep this a fair discussion and I hope that there is more here than simply "I like these images so they should be kept." As I said, I don't see any issues with your own similar images but perhaps others will say the first deletion by Yann was incorrect but that seems incorrect. :-/ Ricky81682 (talk) 23:31, 28 February 2023 (UTC)

The map was copied from The Timucua, Jerald T. Milanich (1996), Blackwells, page 49, see in Google Books. The uploader claimed the map is their own work. I have found no indication that the map has been released under any license that is compatible with keeping it in Commons. - Donald Albury (talk) 15:13, 31 January 2023 (UTC)

File:Russian Wikinews page «Алексей Навальный задержан сразу после выхода из-под ареста» Screenshot 2018-09-25.png
[edit]This file was initially tagged by A.Savin as Dw no source since (dw no source since), with the edit summary "This is a derivative work and no source or permission of the original work is provided." It is indeed a derived work, but for Wikipedia screenshots we generally don't require specifying sources or permissions of the authors on the file description page. LPfi (talk) 18:39, 31 January 2023 (UTC)
- In this case finding the sources is more complicated, as the image principally depicts the Wiki Loves Monuments banner, which does not appear in the file history (I assume the proper link to the page would be n:ru:Special:Permalink/665522, based on the date given). Still, the banner should be findable, and its content suitably licensed. I prefer leaving the digging to somebody who knows Russian well or have been engaged in WMF banners or the campaign. –LPfi (talk) 18:46, 31 January 2023 (UTC)
- Delete Violation of Free License terms. --A.Savin 20:49, 31 January 2023 (UTC)
- What terms were violated? What underlying copyright is it that you find problematic? If that is identified, it should be possible to just add the correct attribution and licence. Or is there something more that is problematic? –LPfi (talk) 22:30, 2 February 2023 (UTC)
- I see at least three pictures on this screenshot, their source is for sure not Russian Wikinews and their author is for sure not "Russian Wikinews users". Improper source & attribution = violation of Free License terms, in case you're not aware. --A.Savin 22:35, 2 February 2023 (UTC)
- Yes, of course. But you are usually not required to site authors of works in a Wikipedia screenshot, and the same should apply for Wikinews. The problem here is that the banner does not appear in the article history, and the permanent link to the page doesn't show those images, so they cannot be clicked for licence information. On the other hand, I expect banners on Wikimedia sites to be freely licensed. We just need to find the banner and its history. As Russian speaker you are much better equipped to do that than what I am. No user is obliged to do that work, but it seems silly to need to delete a free image because a WMF project doesn't keep a transparent attribution trail. –LPfi (talk) 13:26, 9 February 2023 (UTC)

- Delete Per A.Savin, and the uploader has been WMF-banned. --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 09:48, 14 April 2023 (UTC)
