- @Krd: I am the VRTS agent who processed the ticket. I hereby confirm @MaGa: asked me about the best way to move all these files to Commons, and I instructed him to add the VRT permission template himself. The source for all these images is the Croatian Ministry of Culture, which has given its explicit permission to use all these files under CC-by-sa 3.0 or GNU licences, as stated in ticket:2021043010005276. There's also File:Lithuanian postal envelope with the coat of arms. 1990.jpg, which has the coat of arms in red (well, more like orange but whatever) and appears to have been put out by the Postal Administration of Lithuania. It would be hard to argue the Postal Administration of Lithuania is trolling, distorting their own national symbols, or otherwise created the coat of arms in red for malicious purposes. In general though, if the Postal Administration of Lithuania is fine with the coat of arms of Lithuania being in red/orange then I don't see why it would be a problem for Commons to host images of it in similar colors. The only reason Pofka might disagree is because they are clearly on a harassment campaign against the uploader and trying to push a Lithuanian nationalistic POV by having their images deleted. One that is clearly leading to spurious DRs. At least the DR in this case is clearly bogus. - @Great Brightstar: According to the official website of Seimas (parliament of Lithuania): "The coloured standard coat of arms, adopted by the Presidium of the Supreme Council of the Republic of Lithuania on 17 May 1990, had a Purpure (purple) background and a purple shield of the knight. This coat of arms became a symbol of the transitional period and highlighted Lithuania's continuation of the pre-war traditions. At the same time, the Lithuanian Heraldry Commission was tasked to draw up a revised version of the coat of arms based on historical and iconographic sources. On 4 September 1991, the Supreme Council– the Reconstituent Seimas adopted the second version of the coat of arms created by artist Arvydas Každailis and approved by the Lithuanian Heraldry Commission. It is used to date." (see: HERE). I don't know exactly what kind of tone purple was used and Seimas website do not provide an example. I'm not capable to discuss with administrators from different countries projects in languages I don't know (and creating hundreds of reports to various wiki projects administrators noticeboards would not be an effective way to combat a troll). The most effective way would be to delete such files so that he could not abuse these files any longer as he would not be able to upload them again due to blocking in Commons. Just imagine if somebody created distorted coats of arms of your country and inserted them into hundreds of different languages projects (I proved with a quote above that the colors are incorrect). - Errors are not a reason to delete. At least, not if we can fix them so easily. You could indeed do this for yourself.
- This is not a violation of WP:OR or WP:HOAX, because those are policies on Wikipedia and this isn't Wikipedia, it's Commons.
- This is not a violation of COM:NOTHOST. At least, not unless you're arguing that "Coat of arms of Lithuania (1990–1991)" is itself outside COM:SCOPE (The fact that Category:National coats of arms of Lithuania in 1990–1991 contains several near-identical representations of this, and this image is already COM:INUSE suggests not).
- Category:National coats of arms of Lithuania in 1990–1991 contains 4 copies of this, all with the red shield. Are they also in error? Why didn't you list them for deletion too? This is our only coloured SVG copy.
- File:Coat of arms of Lithuania.svg (blue shield) is also available. Do you have any comment on that? Is it applicable to the '90–'91 period? Would it be a reasonable fix to replace one with the other?
- If you have issues with trolling, then report those as necessary and try to have them dealt with. But DRs are not the place for that sort of problem, and if DRs are needed, do that after any trolling has been ceased.

- Keep I think we can use PD-old-assumed in this case because the original publication was already in 1893 (over 120 years ago). Moreover, the 1921 edition credits Leggatt as the "late manager" of the Manhattan works. This may be read in the sense of "retired" or "former" instead of "deceased" rather, but there is also a William Laggett of Dundee who died in 1897.[6] So {{PD-old-assumed-expired}} should work. I'm probably being a little nitpicky here but the artwork on these postcards clearly wasn't created by employees of the National Park Service and children can claim copyright. So these images should be deleted as COPYVIO unless someone can provide evidence to the contrary.

- The first is a board, see this picture shown it from distance. The last picture is a typically info-picture on outstanding boards in Germany, as this is a photo (see EXIF) and the picture is flat and not curved+shadowed (as it would be if taken from a book) this is more likely a photo from a infoboard than from a book. It is understood that New Zealander FOP does not apply to 2D graphic works as well as textual works. Nominated photos show a variety of texts, 2D graphic works, and photographs of various kinds.
It is unsure if the texts in several images can be considered as simple enough to deny writers their rights for copyrights. Some may be in public domain, but the FOP tag generates uncertainty over their copyright statuses.

[edit]Austrian photographer Josefine „Pepa“ Feldscharek, born in 1899 and also known as Josefine Schreier (her married name), did not go missing in 1939 as claimed. She emigrated to the US, was naturalized and died there in 1962. So these files are not in the PD in Austria yet and should be deleted. AFAIK she was not active as a photographer in the US; these photos are all from her time in Austria and can be restored in 2033; their US copyright terms should have expired by then as well.

[edit]These photos all show works of art by German artist de:Joseph Fassbender, who died in 1974. They are from 1955 (Vihaminazhera), 1958 (Coincidentia), 1959 (the rest of the Beethovenhalle images) and 1963 (Gobelin). Since they are all inside buildings in Germany, there is no freedom of panorama. The works are still protected until the end of 2044 in Germany and even longer in the US (95 years from publication, which should be the same as creation here). So the files should be deleted. They can be restored 95 years after publication, so in 2051, 2054, 2055 and 2059.

Cypriot freedom of panorama does not cover literary works. These are information boards that contain detailed text, unlikely to be simple texts only.
The latest Cypriot copyright law states: "της αναπαραγωγής και διανομής αντιτύπων οιουδήποτε καλλιτεχνικού έργου μονίμως εγκατεστημένου σε μέρος όπου αυτό δύναται να βλέπεται από το κοινό·" — "the reproduction and distribution of copies of any artistic work permanently installed in a place where it can be viewed by the public." No indication that literary works can be freely used.

This image is absolutely fake and is not based on any historical depictions and was created and uploaded by a user who was indefinitely blocked for trolling/long-term abuse and such creations with aim to distort symbols of other countries was one of his malicious activities. Keep As I assume the nominator is aware, there's no rule against people uploading their own creations to commons. In this specific case, the uploader makes it clear in the "source" field that it is their own work. So there's zero claim on the uploaders part that it is a 1/1, authentic reproduction of the original seal. Maybe the claim that they uploaded it to distort national symbols or confuse people would hold some water if they did, but there's nothing malicious or miss-leading about a drawing that is clearly labeled as the uploaders own work. Even WP:HOAX says "A hoax is an attempt to trick an audience into believing that something false is real." How exactly is the uploader attempting to trick the audience into believing it's the real seal if they are being upfront about the fact that it's their own work and not an original image?
In the meantime something isn't automatically a hoax just because it's not an original. As the guideline says, the image has to clearly be meant to trick people. Even if the uploader hadn't of said it's their own work, no one is going to be tricked into thinking the image is a 1/1 exact recreation of the original seal anyway. It's obviously an amateurish reproduction, no one is claiming otherwise, and Commons hosts plenty of inexact reproductions of originals. Since this image is a completely own work without any historical (educational) value it violates COM:NOTHOST. Such file can only be used for trolling purposes (the reason creator of this file was blocked in Commons) and that is not compatible with the Commons:Assume good faith. - IMO it's sufficiently close enough to the originals to serve an educational purpose. That's just me though, but I've looked through various coins and other objects with seal and they are pretty similar. No drawing of physical object is a 1/1 recreation, obviously. I don't find the "it's not educational" justification to be compelling either since I didn't know the seal of duke Skirgaila had a knight riding a horse on it before I saw the image and now I do. So it's educational in that regard, which should be enough to make it in scope for educational purposes.

- Just like a lot of postcards of historical locations are still in scope and serve an educational purpose even though they aren't 100% accurate of the time periods or locations, obviously. No one being half good faithed about this is going to argue that say the images in Category:Postcards published by Curt Teich & Company should be deleted as WP:OR, WP:HOAX just because Curt Teich & Company often embellished the colors, used fake skies, or inserted objects into the images that didn't exist in real life. All of which they did BTW. There is no mandate that something be a 1/1 recreation of the original historical object for it to be hosted on Commons, obviously.
- The question should be, what's unique about this case, and I don't see anything unique about it that warrants making a possibly precedent setting exception. What I do see though is a lot of claims being made by Pofka about the uploaders behavior on other projects, which has nothing to do with the educational merits of the image. Obviously Лобачев Владимир can troll on other projects and the image can serve an educational purpose. They aren't mutually exclusive. BTW, here's a link to the original that Лобачев Владимир based his image on. Like I said in my last message, it's perfectly fine for Commons to host artistic recreations of physical objects and that's literally all the image is. Also, it's pretty weak sauce that you both copied and pasted the same comments into both nominations. The only possible source of the picture can be actual seal of Skirgaila, which is this: File:Seal of duke Skirgaila with Vytis (Waykimas), 1382.jpg, there is no double-barred cross on it. So the picture we talk about should be removed, because it's misleading. No one trespassed on any homeowner's private property to take the photograph. The building was also completed prior to 1990. According to copyright rules as outlined in COM: FOP US, there is complete FoP for such buildings, without regard to whether the building is visible from a public place. Anyone can drive past this residence on a public road and take a photograph. As long as no one is entering private property without permission from the homeowner, there is no reasonable expectation of privacy according to the rules.

The other is the connection between the building and the family. That was also addressed above: any other projects that are using this file need to deal with that themselves. But that is a bit of a problem, because I am not sure that anyone at the English Wikipedia, besides the uploader Paulthelawyer, has taken a look at this issue.

According to the photo, the rank of the person named Fevzi Çakmak in the photo is marshal and the Chief of General Staff of the Turkish Army. After receiving the rank of marshal on 31 August 1922, he carried out these two duties until 12 January 1944. Probably the photo was taken between these dates. In Turkey, if the owner of the photograph is a real person, it becomes public domain 70 years after his death. If it is a legal person, the work becomes public domain 70 years after it is published. - AFAIK, crops are meant to scale an image down to show a specific portion of it. In this instance, this is a crop to remove the black shadow at the lower right corner. - Keep Publication_date+50_years doesn't appear to an actual WikiLaw or copyright law, and the previous batch that were nominated for deletion under the publication_date+50_years rule, all had authors who died prior to 1953 when research was performed and their obituaries were found. I don't believe this type of speculation meets Commons: Precautionary principle, based on how wrong it has been in the past. Rather than nominate for deletion based on theoretical speculation based on a formula not found in law, maybe it would be better to ask for research on the author at Village pump or a genealogical message board, or look for an obituary like I did. - Delete. Established? I guess they have been around a few years. Looking through this user's uploads, however, is concerning. First of all, there is definitely some history of blatant copyright violations claimed as own work. It is true that these images don't return hits on reverse image searches, but they could be from any number of social media sites whose images don't show up in reverse image searches. These particular images very much have a Facebook vibe to them. Most are also of relatively low resolution. It's also odd that the file names from this user switch between multiple languages (and more than just the English and Japanese shown here). - Hello Doug, I nominated the Caroline Reboux file for deleting, but in the meantime I found out what's wrong with it. This is not Caroline Reboux, because the picture is from about 1920, and Reboux would have been 80 by then. It however is Lucienne Rabaté, who continued Reboux' hat workshop from 1927 - 1956. Maybe it is possible to upload the picture again with new data. Unsure if this is still in compliance with COM:FOP Germany. Most types of major altercations are not allowed according to COM:FOP Germany#Prohibition of alteration, except some types. It is not sure if the removal of surroundings already violates limitations of German FOP. - @Ellywa: Hm. The only thing (perhaps) copyrightable here IMO is the gryphin head in the logo of the SC Freiburg, Freiburg's football club. That logo was apparently created in 1924 (so no URAA problem) by a drawing teacher of the Freiburg university named Hans Dettelbacher, who was born in 1885 and apparently still alive in 1955. So it's not quite in the PD in Germany yet, at least not because the author died over 70 years ago. Now is that drawing below the threshold of originality? Probably yes in Germany, probably not in the US, but the 1924 date should solve the US copyright problem. So I think we can justify to Keep the file. --Rosenzweig τ 20:48, 18 June 2023 (UTC)
