User:Jdx Please block upload and return.

Jdx (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · edit filter log · block user · block log) I don't know if this user is Korean or foreign, but WikiMedia Commons continues to act to reverse the files I uploaded. Take File:Flag of Elleore.svg for example. Here's the link. [1] The document is linked to Metawiki when you go in. From the fact that there is an English explanation, you can guess that it is a foreigner, but it could be Korean. Request to block this user. He's not a Wikipedia user, he's a Wikipedia public or English Wikipedia user. We haven't confirmed whether Wikipedia in Korean can block users in other places (English Wikipedia, Wikimedia, etc.). I'll leave a request for now. Thank you... 도성전 (talk) 14:17, 1 November 2020 (UTC)

  •  Oppose, User:Jdx is a trusted Administrator here, is also trusted on multiple Wikipedias, and has edited Korean Wikipedia for 4 years. He is trying to stop you and another user from overwriting a file in a controversial manner.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 15:25, 1 November 2020 (UTC)
  •  Oppose - If you're reverted the onus is then on you to seek consensus for your changes. That being said User:Jdx what's the harm with there being a larger file of the flag ? Just curious. –Davey2010Talk 15:28, 1 November 2020 (UTC)
@Davey2010: All these "new versions" are in fact bitmap images – just look into SVG sources and you will see only embedded PNG images. @Jeff G.: I didn't know that I have been editing Korean Wikipedia for four years. Well, I could have undone some changes there while chasing vandals, but I wouldn't call it "editing". --jdx Re: 15:55, 1 November 2020 (UTC)

Upload protection for Biden portraits

In anticipation of the U.S. election tomorrow, I recommend temporarily upload-protecting File:Joe Biden official portrait 2013.jpg and File:Joe Biden 2013.jpg. Neither file is likely to need to be changed, and both are used across multiple sites—but most notably on en:2020 United States presidential election and en:Joe Biden, which are both in the top-25 most viewed articles of en.wiki (and that is bound to go up drastically tomorrow). They'll be highly visible during and after the election, and these images may be a target for vandalism that will not reflect well if it's done. For reference, Trump's respective images (File:Donald Trump official portrait.jpg and File:Donald Trump official portrait (cropped).jpg) are also naturally already protected. ~Kevin Payravi (talk) 02:48, 3 November 2020 (UTC)

The file was protected amid a dispute between a user and an IP, both no longer active, and another user. This happened in 2011, 9 years have passed, I don't see the need to keep maintaining an as protected file. In fact, I don't even think it was correct to protect the file in the first place, it would have been better to have tried to fix the conflict between the users or sanction them. The person who protected the article is no longer an administrator, that is why I have come here. Super Dromaeosaurus (talk) 12:39, 7 November 2020 (UTC)

@Jeff G.: Please explain how File:Canadian Oil Sands in plain polarized light.jpg meets the criteria of either F10 or G10. --AntiCompositeNumber (talk) 05:17, 11 November 2020 (UTC)
 Info see also: COM:HD#Information being deleted -- Crep1711 (talk) 10:50, 11 November 2020 (UTC)
@AntiCompositeNumber and Billinghurst: It meets CSD F10 because it is a photo by a non-contributor (who has yet to have a project edit stick) and CSD G10 because it is a file created as an advertisement, both in the description and in the intended use in the uploader's userspace and draftspace autobiographies / curricula vitae here and on enwiki. It also appears to have been used before in the uploader's dissertation. The uploader appears not to be here for any encyclopedic or media repository purpose.  Not done User warned. I feel that it's more likely that they are confused or unaware of what material is acceptable on Commons than that they're here solely to advertise. If the behavior continues, of course, a block may be more appropriate. --AntiCompositeNumber (talk) 19:14, 11 November 2020 (UTC)

Comment @Jeff G.: It reputedly comes from a published paper so at a preliminary assessment it aligns with our scope. There was no linked available evidence that it was being used in a promotional sense so it does not meet the criteria for speedy deletion, so it should fall back to DR. F10/G10 do not overrule the concepts about scope, we have many photos in scope that get uploaded and later used. F10 are primarily for images that are less in scope, and primarily aligned with user photos as their primary focus. If you want G10, then probably needs the evidence available to the admin with the request.  — billinghurst sDrewth 20:23, 11 November 2020 (UTC)

Requesting protection of TimedText:Lupang Hinirang instrumental.ogg.tl.srt

A bunch of IP editors have been manually reverting the subtitle track of the Philippine national anthem back to the subtitles which use an archaic alphabet system that is no longer used by the Tagalog language. Virtually no one speaking Tagalog uses this system, as the Filipino alphabet is now used for writing and encoding documents in Tagalog. I'm also recommending this version for accessibility reasons, as the use of Baybayin symbols requires a special font which supports said symbols. On mobile phones and other devices, these symbols show up as boxes. Chlod (talk) 13:12, 14 November 2020 (UTC)

Users Yitbe and Kalekidan Girma

  • Kalekidan Girma (talk · contributions · Move log · block log · uploads · Abuse filter log
  • Yitbe (talk · contribs)
  • Reasons for reporting: Both accounts are repeatedly uploading copyvios in spite of numerous user talk page notices. I believe they are sock accounts; Yitbe uploaded File:Pilot Kalekidan Girma.png; around the time that was deleted a new account "Kalekidan Girma" appeared. After Yitbe received numerous warnings about uploading copyrighted material as their own work, Kalekidan Girma started uploading where the sources were correct (or, at least, not the uploader), but incorrectly claiming CC0 as the works' license. I believe there's a basic misunderstanding about what is or isn't allowed for uploading. Not sure whether this has any bearing at Commons, but Kalekidan Girma's first edit at English Wikipedia was to edit Yitbe's talk page there ("new WikiLove message"). -- Gyrofrog (talk) 12:00, 16 November 2020 (UTC)

User:Yungelita

Specifically, this user replaced File:Naked slim woman 2.jpg with a cropped version, which I reverted (with a specific reason), then redid the crop. These edits are problematic for the following reasons:

  • The file is in use on vi:Khỏa thân with the caption "Người phụ nữ khỏa thân chải tóc" ("Naked woman combing her hair"); the crop breaks this use. This information is in the edit summary from when I reverted the first crop.
  • The crop is substantial, in violation of Commons:Overwriting existing files.
  • The file is currently subject to a DR.

Brianjd (talk) 12:37, 26 November 2020 (UTC)

@Brianjd: The cropped view of the back of a naked woman can also serve that page. Overwriting one's own upload is not a violation of COM:OVERWRITE.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 13:45, 26 November 2020 (UTC)
@Jeff G.: The crop might still be able to serve that page, but not with that description, and in any case, shouldn't this be up to the viwiki community to decide? Commons does not editorialise on other projects. Or at least that's what people keep saying in DRs.
Overwriting one's own upload is not a violation of COM:OVERWRITE. I don't understand this statement. I can't find anything in the policy that supports it. It certainly contradicts the warning given to the uploader:
Hi, do not overwrite existing images, even not your own uploads.
Brianjd (talk) 13:59, 26 November 2020 (UTC)
@Brianjd: Please see the bolded parts of ✓[OK] Blurring, cropping or otherwise obscuring unfree elements and any other unacceptable parts (like sensitive personal information) that would otherwise result in deletion or a DR, provided that the file is still useful and in scope after the offending element has been obscured.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 14:12, 26 November 2020 (UTC)
@Jeff G.: The section you quoted has nothing to do with whether the overwrite is done by the uploader or some other user, so it doesn't answer my question. Nevertheless, we must check whether it applies to the overwrites in question here. Which part is "unacceptable"? I presume the face. What makes it unacceptable (which is a stronger condition than undesirable)? I don't know; presumably it was acceptable when it was uploaded and used in another project. Would it otherwise result in a deletion or DR? Is the file still in scope after the offending element has been removed? Neither of these is clear to me. I was under the impression that in cases of doubt, you should not overwrite, even where overwriting might otherwise be acceptable: When in doubt, or to resolve inter-user conflicts, upload as a new file.. This user has the hallmarks of at least one LTA but I haven't had the time to investigate properly: the numerous warnings in multiple areas (i.e., not just template space) and the lack of any meaningful response; the bizarre and inappropriate edits to template space (I fully agree with Achim that there should be a block here); misrepresenting themselves as an admin (and removed only by another user); the longing to be an admin; playing around with sock issues (e.g., related to long-gone socks [2][3] and creating a category on themselves (!!!)}; etc. The latter few especially look like VKras. Whatever the case, something is amiss with this user and the disruption needs to be addressed. Эlcobbola talk 12:45, 29 November 2020 (UTC)

Comment I have used Administrators' noticeboard only several times for example to report sockpuppets (examples: 1 and 2) or report of copyvios uploads after last warning (examples: 1 and 2). As you can see in my contributions i do lot of work in Commons maintenance i never abused this noticeboard or Commons in general. I was not aware that i have to use "Discussion-notice" for these cases, so for now on i will use them in these reports. Usually i am using "no permission", "no source" and "deletion request" templates, where notification on user talk page is done automatically. P.S. Except you, i think no one else warned me before about this, because i would definitely use this notification even before. --Smooth O (talk) 18:46, 29 November 2020 (UTC)

Protection request

User:Terlines, an SPA as seen per their contributions, is removing Category:Capitals in Europe from Category:Ankara, claiming that the city is not on the European continent. There is no way to make them understand (experienced users here know very well you cannot convince people when they come here to do "something specific", the reasoning behind being an "SPA") that Turkey is a transcontinental country and almost all categories relating to the country appear both in Europe and Asia, the exception being most sports cats, because Turkish sports federations are only members of European sports confederations. I have no doubt where the city that has been my home for many years is situated, however, this is not about geography. (In that case Nicosia is also not in Europe, as the Island of Cyprus is part of Anatolia or Asia Minor. For some reason the SPA has no problems with that "transcontinental" case. :) This is clearly a POV campaign. Therefore I kindly request their last edit at Category:Ankara be reverted and the page protected from this SPA. Thanks in advance. --E4024 (talk) 14:10, 2 December 2020 (UTC)

  • Of course Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and Santa Cruz de Tenerife may be in Africa, but no problem to consider them "in the European continent" when you are not really interested in geography but other things... Am I wrong? (Now I also understand better why the Iberian Jews converted for fear of death by Inquisition preferred to take surnames like "Santa Cruz"; intelligent people... In Turkey we do not know how to protect ourselves from being made "the other" all the time. What a pity...) --E4024 (talk) 14:28, 2 December 2020 (UTC)

Files in Category:SVG sovereign state flags

Can all those be semi-protected? Some already are. Different unregistered users remove multiple captions on one of the flag files once a day on average. Today it was File:Flag of Bangladesh.svg, File:Flag of Niger.svg and File:Flag of Uruguay.svg. None is especially badly targeted but it adds up. Due to the nature of structured data edits the file histories get increasingly messy, especially when users remove 5–10 captions at once.--TFerenczy (talk) 22:43, 8 December 2020 (UTC)

German sex worker

Could we semi-protect indef this please? It's potentially controversial and in wide global usage. There would have to be a very good reason to overwrite it and it looks like it's being targeted for mischief. -- (talk) 11:47, 9 December 2020 (UTC)

✓ Done. However, to prevent against overwriting, what has actually happened, I had to fully-protect the file. --Túrelio (talk) 11:56, 9 December 2020 (UTC)
@ and Túrelio: I dispute the "self-" portion of the naming of this file, as I can see no trigger mechanism or timer info in the metadata.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 14:02, 9 December 2020 (UTC)
The file is in wide use, was raised several times for deletion (not under the current name) and has been hosted long enough for COM:GOF to be a consideration.
If you want to raise copyright concerns, it would be sensible to put in some due diligence to see if these hypothetical issues have an existing consensus. This is not an especially important file, nor do I have any special interest in it, but Commons stability for the very long term is an issue that underpins GOF. -- (talk) 14:09, 9 December 2020 (UTC)
@: My dispute is not about permission, which is covered by GOF; the file is not even tagged as GOF. I don't want to delete the file. But I am concerned about the name, as I don't think the subject was the photographer.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 14:41, 9 December 2020 (UTC)
Sure, renaming would probably not harm anything. You may want to look at the usage, especially if you can read German, before choosing the new name. -- (talk) 14:59, 9 December 2020 (UTC)
In this special case the "self" is indeed credible, though I won't provide more information. If you want to make sure more authentically, ask the uploader of the 2nd or 4th file-version. --Túrelio (talk) 15:49, 9 December 2020 (UTC)

User repeatedly uploading copyvio image under different names

Parthpandey16 has repeatedly uploaded a copyrighted image of en:T. Natarajan, each time under a different file name. Most current one is File:T.Natarajan.jpg.webp (but there will be other names in deleted contrbiutions). Can this user be blocked for copyvio violation? Joseph2302 (talk) 15:42, 9 December 2020 (UTC)

✓ Done. Only 2 uploads, both deleted. I warned the user, that's enough. Taivo (talk) 12:03, 10 December 2020 (UTC)

The user Sarah 1985 was already warned two and a half years ago that it is not allowed to overwrite image files with completely different images. Two years ago, she was warned again. After another violation, her user account was blocked for a week. Now she has become active again and continues exactly the same misconduct. As the photos are on the subject of sexuality and the false images she uploads appear immediately in our articles, which can be very irritating, there is a particular urgency to this matter. Since she or he avoids giving credit to the true author of the photo in this way, it cannot be ruled out that some photographs were published against the will of the woman who was photographed and that personality rights are violated.

The fact that Sarah reverted the latest overwriting shows that she commits the violations deliberately, perhaps out of an inner compulsion, and then reverts it so that no action is taken against her user account. So intent is evident here. This is real vandalism. The effect was also very unpleasant for me personally, because after her renewed vandalism, which caused her wrong photo to appear in an article I had edited, I tried to get rid of it by resetting it. As a result, I now have photos in my list that I don't want in there at all. I don't want those pictures in my files. She didn't reset it immediately, she reset it after 52 minutes. That was a clear provocation. In doing so, she abuses the placating effect of visual sexual stimuli on male adminstrators. I think it is time for a permanent ban, because she is obviously either unwilling or unable to refrain such violations. Sciencia58 (talk) 08:27, 11 December 2020 (UTC)

All of those uploads have been deleted so far but he persists in uploading new ones as useless and as copyvio as before. He should be blocked indefinitely.

User PMRMaeyaert

PMRMaeyaert (talk · contribs) today I became aware of problems around uploads of PMRMaeyaert, problems others have adressed also, to no avail. He has uploaded tens of thousands of his own images, and it are good images, that's not the problem. But not only doesn't he categorize, he is also uploading duplicates, for years already. Besides that, reading his Talk page, I saw that he accused others of messing with at least 15.000 of his uploads, to which he gave an example: File:27439 Oudenaarde Eine Sint-Eligiuskerk 21.jpg. As anyone can see, but apparently nobody before me has, it was PMRMaeyaert himself who created the problem: he uploaded a file, the exterior of a church that is described in the filename, and minutes later he overwrote the file with an image of the interior of another church. The next in the sequence, nr. 22, has the same problem, so I fear this is a very mayor problem of thousands of files where the content does not match the description.

When I pointed this out to him, all he could do was brag about his collection etc. and he didn't take back any of the accusations. After that, he refused to further reply. At the same time, others made clear that also today he is uploading duplicates, in high speed.

So without bothering about what he called 'ravage' (havoc), he continues to give other people a lot of work to clean up the mess, ongoing while I write this. Would it be welcome to instant block this user, to take some time to consider how to correct this all? This can't go on. Eissink (talk) 16:17, 3 January 2021 (UTC).

This is an example of a duplicate he uploaded today: File:PM 092350 B Kluisbos.jpg (duplicate of File:Kluisbos PM 092350 B.jpg). I don't have the skills and means to mass identify duplicates, but it is to be feared that this is far from the only one. The Talk page learns that the uploader also tends to duplicate by later uploading low resolution duplicates. Another curious thing is that PMRMaeyaert, after all these years, still refuses to sign his comments, which makes communication even harder. Eissink (talk) 16:29, 3 January 2021 (UTC).
Final remark: after pointing user to this AN/U, he responded by maintaining that others have changed the file names (this concerns the first example I gave). It is hard to say if user is clueless or trolling, but to yet another request to sign his postings, by Jeff G., he responded right behind the date: "Thanks for advising", without signing. This all is not normal behaviour. Meanwhile he continues to high speed upload uncategorized pictures that might very well be duplicates. Eissink (talk) 16:42, 3 January 2021 (UTC).
A random pick from the last ten minutes indeed gives a duplicate: File:PM 091046 E Granada.jpg (today) / File:Granada PM 091046 E.jpg (2015). Block this user now. Eissink (talk) 16:50, 3 January 2021 (UTC).
Random pick from one minute ago: File:PM 039927 B Lissewege.jpg, a lower resolution duplicate of File:ID79787-Lissewege Onze Lieve Vrouw Bezoeking-PM 39927.jpg, of course not categorized.
I don't know how I can make more clear to admins that this guy is giving a lot of troubles, ongoing, in high speed. Eissink (talk) 17:17, 3 January 2021 (UTC).

Keep calm

Let's focus on the main points for now (doubles, naming and categorization), and keep our calm. User:PMRMaeyaert has uploaded close to 33,000 images over a period of 10 years. Even if all images would be doubles, that would mean the addition of 16,500 good and valuable images of Belgian religious heritage to Commons -and Belgium isn't exactly over-represented on Commons. An important task would be to make clear to Maeyaert that the community will listen to his arguments, but that the community will ultimately decide on the naming and deduplication of images. As a start: it's easy to make one category containing all images made and uploaded by Maeyaert, and work from there. We then could, perhaps in cooperation with Wikimedia Belgium @Geertivp: , try to work out a secure and smart way to both categorize and deduplicate. Vysotsky (talk) 00:25, 4 January 2021 (UTC)

@Vysotsky: You seem to have overlooked that he blames others of renaming his uploads, while it was he himself who overwrote his own files with unrelated new images. For me, there is no need to keep calm when someone accuses others of his own wrongdoing, someone who after over ten years still doesn't sign the comments that he attaches with no space to other people's comments and get's sarcastic when people ask him to sign, then starts bragging about all of his work, then refuses to further communicate and instead continues to upload hundreds and hundreds of lower res duplicates, just because he can do so probably because for years people have said "Keep calm". Good luck with cleaning up the mess, I hope you can catch up while he continues to deliver more havoc. Eissink (talk) 01:33, 4 January 2021 (UTC).
I don't underestimate the problem. I am just trying to find a solution. Vysotsky (talk) 01:41, 4 January 2021 (UTC)
Any solution, except blocking to prevent further damage, requires PMRMaeyaert to acknowledge or at least recognize the problem, but signs appear to show quite the opposite. Eissink (talk) 01:57, 4 January 2021 (UTC).
@PMRMaeyaert: What to do with the double images in (for example) Category:Chapelle Notre-Dame de la Paix (Ellezelles) Thank you for your time. Lotje (talk) 17:13, 4 January 2021 (UTC)
Resolved(doubles removed)

Proposal

I will deduplicate all photographs uploaded by User:PMRMaeyaert. I will try to bring all useful information to the file with the highest resolution (in most cases: the first uploaded version). This will take several months, as Maeyaert uploaded >30,000 photographs, of which >3,000 are doubles. Doing this manually ensures that useful descriptions won't get lost. At the same time this causes extra work, so it is vital that no new duplicates will be uploaded by User:PMRMaeyaert. I told him so at his talkpage. Vysotsky (talk) 10:25, 6 January 2021 (UTC)

Okay. Eissink (talk) 17:53, 10 January 2021 (UTC).

Yprpyqp/Qiushufang/Gunman Dan

In April 2020 serial copyright violator Qiushufang was blocked and many hundreds, though not all of his copyright infringements were finally deleted. In August he apparently returned unnoticed as Gunman Dan, on whom I requested now a check-user. Being a shape-shifter of some sorts he very likely started his career as Yprpyqp before he received a final warning for copyvio and thought it wise to change his ID to someone else (Qiushufang). To date, all three accounts are still unblocked on WP.EN with Qiushufang being as active as you can.

The whole episode hasn't been exactly a testimony to the ability of Commons to detect and root out mass copyright infringement. While it was already quite a struggle to get the administrative process going on Qiushufang, I just noticed that some deletion requests of mine on Yprpyqp haven't been addressed even after half a year... (see blue links on his talkpage). Now I have initiated a batch deletion request on Gunman Dan, and, frankly, I don't want to wait another one for them being dealt with. I understand, we are all volunteers but if it takes that long then something's undeniably wrong with the process.

But the overall issue I am having difficulties in getting my mind around is why is it made so complicated to treat the entire case as it obviously is: a user who has been committing mass copyvio for years and should be therefore blocked indef (if not banned) on all projects. The motions I tried last year were sucked up by the bureaucratic process and went to nowhere ([6], [7]).

Now can somebody please talk me through what needs to get done to bring the matter to its rightful end? Gun Powder Ma (talk) 03:51, 7 January 2021 (UTC)

@Gun Powder Ma: Have you considered making a case on m:srg with diffs?   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 03:57, 7 January 2021 (UTC)
@Jeff G.: Thanks for the hint. I did briefly look into it, but found the hurdles somewhat discouraging, namely that the case should be "mentioned widely on meta, and on all communities where the user is active in the local language" (source). But since in this case the said user is mostly active on WP.EN, yes, it could be worth a try. Gun Powder Ma (talk) 17:15, 7 January 2021 (UTC)

Sockpuppetry

Othayoth shankaran and Kalangot are the same person abusively using multiple accounts. Othayoth has been repeatedly uploading copyright violated images [8], including a $65,000 priced painting as his own work in public domain. English Wikipedia has already identified sockpuppetry, both these accounts belongs to Adhithya Kiran Chekavar (see Kalangot), Othayoth shankaran was indeffed for WP:NOTHERE and harassment, who is also a sock of Adhithya Kiran Chekavar, evidences can be seen at the SPI and the CU result is "likely". Additional evidence: this edit, if you open that reference it's a self-published manual written by "Adhithya Kiran", who is User:Adhithya Kiran Chekavar. At commons, both have uploaded image and title with same content Othayoth, Kalangot.

Additionally, Vvian980 is also the same user. Both Vvian980 and Othayoth uploaded the same [9],[10] on the same date (6 October 2020) and both uploaded the same $65,000 priced painting of Unniyarcha with the same deceptive rationale - [11],[12] (there was also a sock Unniyarcha in En.Wikipedia). If this cannot be solved here can someone help transfer this to Check User page as a new request? 2409:4073:393:F917:C164:BDEF:B30D:3339 07:16, 9 January 2021 (UTC)

Pardon, but where's the abuse here? Is Othayoth evading their block here? No, because they were never blocked here. Some of the users you linked here last edited on 2019; and you expect our checkusers to confirm that they are Othayoth? If there's anyone who's disruptive here, it's you, as you are repeatedly tagging files like this for deletion, even if they are clearly in the public domain and properly sourced! pandakekok9 02:45, 11 January 2021 (UTC)
Repeatedly uploading copyright violated images not an abuse? Even uploaded a $65,000 painting in public domain. And bypassing his image deletions by uploading same images from other accounts, and making fake allegations against me. 2409:4073:2E9B:1B70:A54A:EE38:59DB:95D0 07:39, 11 January 2021 (UTC)
I missed the 65,000 painting, sorry about that. You could have been straight to the point and provided wikilinks instead of using external ones though. @Othayoth shankaran: Do you confirm or deny that the Vvian980 is yours? If you deny, or not answer within 48 hours, then I will have to open a request for checkuser against you. Note that if you deny and the checkusers say otherwise, you will most likely be given sanctions, with the best case scenario being a block on the sock, and worst case, the main account that is the Othayoth one will be blocked too. So I highly suggest that you tell the truth here.

I also don't condone Othayoth's allegations against the IP. If you believe that 99v is this IP, then you will have to prove it by linking to diffs.

Now back to you IP, just because I agree with you here doesn't mean you're out of trouble. pandakekok9 09:14, 11 January 2021 (UTC)

Not only you were too lazy to start a deletion request and exert the effort to provide a good rationale for deletion, you are also too lazy to notify Vvian980, Kalangot, and Othayoth shankaran about this thread. And no, pings are not enough; you must use the talk page. pandakekok9 02:56, 11 January 2021 (UTC)
Hi, I'm a new user and the IP user has been deleting my uploaded works using speedy deleting without any reason. initially, I have lost many photos because I do not know how to tackle this vandal. Later I got advice from other admins and editors here and he has been warned for nominating my uploads for speedy deletion. You can see it my page edit history.

This IP user is reported in Wikipedia (yes, it is another project) for IP Gaming.

Now he got a warning from the editors in nominating my works for speedy deletion, so he found another way to delete my works by accusing me a sock puppet, which is a serious allegation i haven't done. he found many users and cooking up stories to claim I'm a sock puppet.

I suspect he is user 99v (https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:99v) who is now into logged out editing.

This IP user is repeatedly tagging this sourced photo , which is an online pdf published some 200 years back , for speedy deletion and he has been warned multiple times for that.

This IP user is into disruptive editing and vandalizing and attacking some specific photos related to Kalari and some community photos. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Othayoth shankaran (talk • contribs) 06:22, 11 January 2021 (UTC)

LOL. This comes from a user who has been banned and blocked from both English and Malayalam Wikipedias for vandalism, disruptive editing and harassment. He makes fake allegation against anyone who reports him, can be seen above too. He is editing Wikipedia only to promote his caste, Thiyya. Even here this clown is not admitting the copyright violated images he uploaded. 2409:4073:2E9B:1B70:A54A:EE38:59DB:95D0 07:39, 11 January 2021 (UTC)

Problems:

  1. Verbal abuse in upload summary in File:MDos khams Commanding Office.png.
  2. This user has been told to observe COM:OVERWRITE at least twice, but s/he is still violating it. Even though some of the changes might have merit and be made in good faith, it's tiresome to tell the user comply with rules.

I would also like to emphasise that I am confident this user was a sockpuppeteer since this account made similar actions to the same files the confirmed sockpuppeteers Anchuhu and others edited.--Roy17 (talk) 20:25, 11 January 2021 (UTC)

1/ the discussion needs to be held here, not on nl-wiki and 2/ what are these? Identical images File:PM 132864 B Schorisse.jpg & File:PM 132863 B Schorisse.jpg => this is not the purpose of Commons, this is realy dumping images like Bulk cargo on our servers. He could even not be bothered to create a usefull discription name. This has to stop at once. Vysotskyare, is the only one who agrees with his work esthetics. --Carolus (talk) 06:43, 17 January 2021 (UTC)
(1) Files 132863 and 132864 are photographs of two different works of art in Schorisse, both part of a series of The Descent from the Cross - to which File:PM_132862_B_Schorisse.jpg also belongs. That makes this part of your argument invalid. (2) You misrepesent my opinion about the modus operandi of User:PMRMaeyaert. I'd rather have him also categorizing his images (see a few lines above), but I don't think a block will enable this. Maeyaert seems to have stopped uploading duplicates, which is a first step in the right direction. Vysotsky (talk) 11:50, 17 January 2021 (UTC)

"Brenton Harrison Tarrant, the Australian gunman in the 2019 mass shootings at the Al Noor Mosque and Linwood Islamic Centre in Christchurch, New Zealand, had the phrase "Remove Kebab" written on one of his weapons.[3] In his manifesto The Great Replacement (named after a far-right theory from France of the same name by writer Renaud Camus), he describes himself as a "Part time kebab removalist".[4][22] He also livestreamed himself playing the song in his car mere minutes before the shooting."

@Jeff G. and Gbawden: Sorry, but unless I'm missing something here, the indef (!!) block seems to be overkill IMHO, especially for a user who seems to be an established user at eswiki. Jeff's warning about copyright is also unnecessary, as the last copyvio notif was on Christmas 2020. I also don't understand the block rationale given by Gbawden, which is "vandalism". Where is the vandalism? Is it deleted? pandakekok9 14:10, 27 January 2021 (UTC)
@Pandakekok9: Perhaps Gbawden was looking at the contributions of the uploader of File:The Real Nikita Mazepin.jpg, Maisppo.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 15:19, 28 January 2021 (UTC)

I don't see any deleted files in deleted user contributions? Inappropriate use of a user page may have happened because they are a new user. The page was deleted and they were warned. This may be enough Gbawden (talk) 06:37, 24 January 2021 (UTC)
✓ Done This is strange, but the user was really warned before creating the userpage. I blocked the user for a week. Taivo (talk) 10:46, 24 January 2021 (UTC)
@Taivo: Thanks!   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 03:31, 27 January 2021 (UTC)
@Gbawden and Taivo: The user started their editing here by trying to advertise / promote on their user page User:Nurani15 starting at 02:21, 24 January 2021 (UTC). When that was blocked by multiple filters, they complained at COM:FILTERT at 02:36, and continued trying to create that page until 02:51. In the meantime, upon noticing their complaint and nefarious activity, at 02:48 I warned them and replied to them. Then they actually were able to slip a version of that page past the filters some time before 03:00, and I tagged the page for speedy deletion using criteria U3 and G10, notified them of the tagging at 03:00, created this section at 03:02, especially including "after warning for doing so" and "See Abuse filter log for initial attempts.", and notified them of this section at 03:03. Thankfully, Billinghurst deleted the page at 03:11.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 15:10, 28 January 2021 (UTC)

Requesting unprotection of File:Flag of Johor.svg

File:Flag of Johor.svg was last vandalised in 2013 by a single user. The admin who protected the file cited that it was a "highly visible" image, so it might have appeared on the front page then. I think the full protection has outlived its necessity after seven years. Seloloving (talk) 17:22, 22 February 2021 (UTC)

The flag was created as described in the Constitution.

Constitution of the Crimean Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic of 1929. Section 108:

108. The national flag of the Crimean Autonomous Socialist Soviet Republic consists of a red (scarlet) cloth, rectangular, with a length to width ratio of two to one. In the upper left corner of the flag near the flagpole are placed the golden letters RSFSR and Kr. ASSR in Russian and Tatar languages.

The participant decided that the Constitution did not work and therefore such a flag did not exist. The reference to the original of the Constitution (description in the Constitution of the Crimean ASSR 1929) is ignored.

Its symbol was the sky-blue flag ("kok-bairak"), which personified the belonging of the Crimean Tatars to the Turkic peoples (the color of the Turks is considered to be sky blue - the color of the eternal sky of the Turkic god Tengri). KanzatBot is my bot account (without bot flag). I prepared data and wanted to perform test upload of 30-50 edits according to Commons:Bots/Requests policy. However, administrator @Elcobbola: blocked my account, because he thinks that I need to have bot flag first and only then perform any run.

  • This contradicts to Commons:Bots/Requests policy, quote: "Make a short test run with your bot account (30-50 edits/uploads) to allow other users to review your bot's tasks."
  • This contradicts to Commons:Bots policy: "an unapproved bot may be blocked, though in practice unless the bot is doing harm the operator should normally be asked to submit a retrospective bot request"
  • This contradicts to other requests in Commons:Bots/Requests page, because all other guys who applied for bot flag - did test upload using their bot accounts, without having a bot flag. And noone ever blocked them. Just me.

So, please unblock my bot account. --Kanzat (talk) 09:58, 15 March 2021 (UTC)

The purport that the block is contradicted by "policy" (sic) is utterly disingenuous:
  • COM:BRFA says "If you want to run a bot on Commons, you must get permission first." (underline added)
  • COM:BOTS says "All bots running on Wikimedia Commons must have advance permission to do so." (underline added)
  • Contrary to the purport above, neither COM:BRFA nor COM:BOTS are policy (which I also told Kanzat); accordingly, whatever those pages say is subordinate to actual policies if there is conflicting guidance. Actual policy says the following: "Bot accounts not authorized by the Commons community are not allowed to operate on Wikimedia Commons, [...] Bots may not be operated on Commons without prior approval" (underline added)(COM:BP).
I've repeatedly asked Kanzat for this permission ([17][18]); those requests have been ignored. For the third time, Kanzat, where is the approval? That you've ignored my questions, failed to engage with the guidance I've cited (and indeed have conveniently omitted it in the report here), and have mispresented COM:BOTS and COM:BRFA to be policy seems rather telling. Эlcobbola talk 10:59, 15 March 2021 (UTC)
@Elcobbola: Are you kidding me? Commons:Blocking policy: "Bots may not be operated on Commons without prior approval" Can you please quote THE FULL SENTENCE? "Bots may not be operated on Commons without prior approval (which can be sought at Commons:Bots/Requests)." It means that everything wrote at Commons:Bots/Request is also part of the policy. And that's how it's de facto. Otherwise - why don't you block all other guys at Commons:Bots/Request without bot flags? --Kanzat (talk) 11:25, 15 March 2021 (UTC)
No, I rather think you're kidding me. The full sentence says where permission can obtained and does not change its meaning. So, for the fourth time, where is your permission? Use of the OTHERSTUFF fallacy generally betrays being on the wrong side of an issue. Эlcobbola talk 11:31, 15 March 2021 (UTC)
People won't be able to review what my bot does if my bot won't be able to do anything! People can't approve something they don't see! That's why test runs exist! God. --Kanzat (talk) 11:47, 15 March 2021 (UTC)
Notwithstanding that you've already represented that the test edits have been made (!!!), bot flags are granted by bureaucrats and, as such, the bureaucrat reviewing your application will unblock if editing needs to be observed. Эlcobbola talk 11:50, 15 March 2021 (UTC)

I can't stand this guy and his manipulations. @CptViraj: , @Taivo: , @GreenMeansGo: , @Pi.1415926535: or any other admin - please review the above discussion. --Kanzat (talk) 11:47, 15 March 2021 (UTC)

"Manipulations" - COM:AGF appears yet another policy you've not read or understood. Эlcobbola talk 11:50, 15 March 2021 (UTC)
  • Sorry. I'm entirely too simple to have much of anything to do with bots. Regular contributing to Wikimedia projects is about the most tech savvy thing I can do. GMGtalk 12:51, 15 March 2021 (UTC)

I see here clear contradiction. For bot approval you must have a test run, but you are not allowed to have a test run without bot approval. Эlcobbola, please explain, which must be first: test run or bot approval? If test run must be first, how to make it without bot approval? Taivo (talk) 17:02, 15 March 2021 (UTC)

Three things, which I've explained above: 1) COM:BOTS is not a policy. If there is a contradiction, actual policy (COM:BP and COM:IU) is what governs; 2) Kanzat has already represented that the test edits have been made. If the edits have been already been made, there is no need for further edits; and 3) bot flags are granted by bureaucrats and, as such, the bureaucrat reviewing the application will unblock if additional editing needs to be observed. There is nothing to be accomplished here, especially when there is a pending bot request. If it is approved, the bot flag with be granted and the account unblocked. Эlcobbola talk 17:12, 15 March 2021 (UTC)
Although you did not answer my question, I think, that I understand. BP and IU are policies, BOTS is not. So if there is a contradiction, then BOTS must be changed to remove contradiction. Taivo (talk) 17:23, 15 March 2021 (UTC)
That's correct. I also thought the answer implicit, but I'm happy to be explicit: as I said above, even COM:BOTS agrees with COM:BP and COM:IU. It says "All bots running on Wikimedia Commons must have advance permission to do so." The correct order of operations is 1) open an application at COM:BRFA; 2) get permission to make test edits; 3) make the test edits (if the bot has been blocked, the reviewing bureaucrat will unblock it for you); and 4) if everything is in order, receive the bot flag and operate the bot. KanzatBot does not have advance permission, and Kanzat has refused to provide it after at least four (!!!) requests. Эlcobbola talk 17:35, 15 March 2021 (UTC)

@Taivo: - the approach described by Эlcobbola is extremely bureaucratic and was NEVER EVER used before. He asked that I must show some approval to him, without specifying how to get that approval. 40 test edits that I made this morning is actually a violation of rules (in Эlcobbola representation, but not in real life) - because I run my bot using this account without approval and without bot flag - he forced me to do that, because I didn't have any other option. I won't be surprised if he will block me after these words. --Kanzat (talk) 20:05, 15 March 2021 (UTC)

  • Elcobbola's block of KanzatBot was well within the bounds of policy and is supported by policy. Kanzat had the option of requesting the unblocking of the bot through Commons:Bots/Requests/KanzatBot rather than running the tests out-of-process. Additionally, I would strongly suggest that the comment “I can't stand this guy and his manipulations” be withdrawn and that Kanzat be civil with future comments. --Ìch heiss Nat. Redd mìt mìr.🥨 05:30, 16 March 2021 (UTC)
Again - there are policies and there is a common sense. Elcobbola decided to change the existing procedure that was a de facto rule for using bots and he was not explicit of what exactly he wants.
Elcobbola proposal is: 1) open application at COM:BRFA 2) get permission to make test edits - question : permission from whom? Bureaucrats? Community? So I write 1 sentence "I want to upload xxx" or "I want to perform task xxx" and need to wait couple of days for a Bureaucrat to come into that thread, he will look at that 1 sentence and say - yes make test edits. Or wait couple weeks for community to discuss 1 sentence? So why does this approval even exist? There is no harm from running 50 test edits - if there's something really really bad with those edits - it's not hard to revert edits and remove uploads. Bots are regulated not simply because they are bots, but because they perform massive changes. If a bot performs a limited in time and scope test run, and there's a request that describes its purpose - there's no need to block it at all. --Kanzat (talk) 09:23, 16 March 2021 (UTC)
  • @Kanzat: Common sense and the proper process would have been to note in the Bot request that the account was blocked and it needed to be unblocked to run those test. A bureaucrat or an administrator would reviewed the unblock request on the bot page and, if everything was in order, would have unblocked the account for you to run the tests. Furthermore, Elcobbola did not change the existing procedures. You chose to act out-of-process at each step.

You created KanzatBot on 09:04, 9 March 2021 (UTC) and proceeded to upload files on 14 March 2021 using the bot at 16:46, 17:51, and 18:04 -- the last upload being 5 minutes before being blocked per Commons' username policy. The request page was only created post facto and only after KanzatBot was blocked. You then proceeded to run the bot out-of-process from your main account from 10:28 to 10:34, and, thereby, circumventing the block.

As I've stated above, the correct action would have been to request an unblock via the bot request page, rather then continuing out-of-process actions.

If it wasn't clear before, I fully endorse Elcobbola's decision to block KanzatBot per COM:IU and support the position that “[t]here is nothing to be accomplished here, especially when there is a pending bot request,” especially as you've already run the tests -- albeit out-of-process. Until the bot is approved at COM:BRFA, there is no need to unblock the account and doing so will be out-of-process. If a bureaucrat approves the bot, they will unblock the account. Ìch heiss Nat. Redd mìt mìr.🥨 03:25, 17 March 2021 (UTC)

  • @Nat:
"Elcobbola did not change the existing procedures" - you are lying that is not true. Show me previous bot requests that had approval before running a test run. --Kanzat (talk) 10:11, 17 March 2021 (UTC)
"The request page was only created post facto and only after KanzatBot was blocked" - yes, I apologized for that at his user page. But he didn't care about request page - he wanted "advance permission" and he ignored that request.
"the correct action would have been to request an unblock via the bot request page" - yes, everyone else running their test run without approval and bot flags, but I had to wait like a loser and wait for approval, because an admin found a silly gap in rules that allowed him to block me. --Kanzat (talk) 10:11, 17 March 2021 (UTC)
You ignored question: Who I need to get approval from. A Bureaucrat ? A community ? They must discuss 1 sentence?
You ignored question: Why running a limited test run is so extremely dangerous for Wiki, that is must have so complex procedure of approval? Uploading of 40 files at once can be achieved using button "Special:NewFiles" - the level of danger is the same. --Kanzat (talk) 10:11, 17 March 2021 (UTC)

While the cites to actual policy I've provided above are perfectly clear, a summary of the behaviour surrounding this issue is below, and is telling:

As I've indicated, resorting to OTHERSTUFF generally indicates one is not on the correct side of an issue;
Resorting to personal attacks (@Nat: is a "liar"; I am "manipulative"; both of us are "inadequate/incompetent") generally indicates one is not on the correct side of an issue;
Resorting to POINTy reports generally indicates one is not on the correct side of an issue;
Resorting to strawmen ("Why running (sic) a limited test run is so extremely dangerous") generally indicates one is not on the correct side of an issue;
Resorting to canvassing generally indicates one is not on the correct side of an issue;

Doing certain of this after I warned of COM:AGF and @Krd: warned of POINTy disruption is well into IDHT territory and one truly wonders how long this bizarre misbehaviour will continue. Эlcobbola talk 13:45, 17 March 2021 (UTC)

This sort of behaviour should not be tolerated. I will note that in addition to warnings regarding COM:AGF and of WP:POINTy disruption, I have already strongly suggested that their uncivil comments be withdrawn and that they should civil in their comments from that point. Warnings and advice to discontinue their unacceptable and disruptive behaviour clearly have not been heeded. --Ìch heiss Nat. Redd mìt mìr.🥨 15:03, 17 March 2021 (UTC)
  • I withdrew words about manipulation and lying, but not about incompetency.
  • A competent admin would help to solve this issue and would not allow this situation to escalate to this level. Revision #542424942
  • A competent admin would be explicit in terms what is needed to be unblocked especially if he just found an inconsistency between a policy and page referenced from a policy. At least someone tried Revision #542714402
  • A competent admin would point to a proper place where it's possible to discuss inconsistency between rules - or even created such discussion himself, because he has more experience.
  • Congrats to everyone - now you have Commons:Bots/Requests that is perfectly aligned with policies, but nobody will follow it. And I am the first one and the last one blocked because of that.

I don't plan to continue my work in Commons. Thanks. --Kanzat (talk) 16:54, 17 March 2021 (UTC)

Vanbasten 23 (talk · contribs) performed unapproved test run using bot account User:Aosbot, which is a violation of Commons:Blocking policy: "Bots may not be operated on Commons without prior approval".

He didn't get an approval before running a bot, so bot account must be blocked. --Kanzat (talk) 09:48, 17 March 2021 (UTC)

He also violated Commons:Username policy - because he named his bot - a "bot", but it doesn't have a bot flag!!!! --Kanzat (talk) 09:50, 17 March 2021 (UTC)

Disruptive report per WP:POINT, see above. --Krd 09:54, 17 March 2021 (UTC)
Not done, They were test edits required for crats to review the approval (2 crats have commented but no objection from their side) and also not a violation of the username policy: one without the bot flag doesn't mean it's not a bot, we have approved running bots without the bot flag, the policy applies when the account is making manual edits. -- CptViraj (talk) 09:58, 17 March 2021 (UTC)
@Krd: @CptViraj: - my bot was blocked for exactly same thing. See above discussion about User:KanzatBot. You must be consistent - either block both, or unblock both. --Kanzat (talk) 10:13, 17 March 2021 (UTC)
@Kanzat: I understand your annoyance. I didn't comment anything about your bot's block. I didn't look at the full issue, so I don't know whether your bot's block is appropriate or not. Just commenting on policy stuff: If you see loophole in the policy, just start a discussion about it. I declined this request because the crats didn't have any objection at the bot request page. IMHO it is pretty clear that there is need for explicit policy about whether one should make test edits prior approval or not, the crats practice and the unclear policy are conflicting. Also please don't make arguments/requests like these, It won't solve the situation but will expand it. -- CptViraj (talk) 10:43, 17 March 2021 (UTC)
@CptViraj: I started discussion above, if you know better place - tell me please where. Almost all admins ignored the discussion above and the consensus (that consist of 2 admins) in that thread is that users like KanzatBot and Aosbot must be blocked. I can accept such consensus only if it will be applied to every other bot owner from now on. So I will not withdraw this request for a block. --Kanzat (talk) 10:56, 17 March 2021 (UTC)

@Nat: @Elcobbola: the same case, block him. --Kanzat (talk) 10:32, 17 March 2021 (UTC)

You are mistaken at the point that decisions based on interpretation and judgement have to be consistent. Please stop disruption immediately. Thank you. --Krd 10:57, 17 March 2021 (UTC)
@Krd: I really don't understand what you mean. Do you mean user blocks must be inconsistent? I don't agree at all. When I tried to discuss other cases in that thread, they said I violate en:WP:OTHERSTUFF, so I created this thread. I'm not trying to be disruptive - I'm trying to be sure that rules are applied to everyone the same way. --Kanzat (talk) 11:09, 17 March 2021 (UTC)
Also, there's no space for "interpretation and judgement" in this case. KanzatBot was blocked for "running without prior approval" (period). Aosbot was also "running without prior approval". Cases are exactly the same. --Kanzat (talk) 11:24, 17 March 2021 (UTC)
@Kanzat: , I understand you perfectly, but I think we should focus on your problem instead of creating problems for other users. Let's try to solve what happened to you, looking for it to happen to other users instead of harming the next ones. This is my 5th request in different projects, plus requests for new tasks in each one, and I'm often told why I haven't done the 40-50 edits before. That is the reason I did it and no other. I understand that I should have posted with my account instead of the bot's. @Krd: told me this, and I wrote with my user account (thanks Krd). I understand that blocking is the solution we have in the project to prevent vandalism and to comply with the rules, but I think common sense should be applied for these circumstances. I have no intention of vandalizing anything, and I never had any previous problems. I think this kind of situations only make users lose their illusion and we should be able to solve them in a calm way. Thank you very much and sorry for any problem I may cause. Best regards. --Vanbasten 23 (talk) 14:55, 17 March 2021 (UTC)
@Vanbasten 23: Thanks for your comment. Good luck. --Kanzat (talk) 16:56, 17 March 2021 (UTC)

User keeps uploading copyrighted material, for days in a row now. Should be blocked, imo. Eissink (talk) 18:27, 16 March 2021 (UTC).

Agree. I have open deletion nomination, so someone else needs to do it. Ellin Beltz (talk) 18:44, 16 March 2021 (UTC)

✓ blocked. I am a little bit surprised this is the first block while the talk page even can't process warnings due to excessive number of template transclusions. rubin16 (talk) 17:28, 21 March 2021 (UTC)

Template editors should be able to edit this, protection reason gives no reason why it shouldn't. Plus, Commons:List of administrators by language, Commons:List of administrators by date, and Commons:List of administrators by recent activity are left vulnerable. 1989 (talk) 18:07, 19 March 2021 (UTC)

It is regularly maintained by admins, so I don't see what's benifit in downgrading the protection. Am I missing something? -- CptViraj (talk) 02:04, 20 March 2021 (UTC)
"It is regularly maintained by admins" because the page is fully protected. I thought that'd be obvious, or am I missing something? 1989 (talk) 02:33, 20 March 2021 (UTC)
What I meant was, It's regularly maintained by admins so why downgrading is needed? -- CptViraj (talk) 06:22, 20 March 2021 (UTC)
What you're saying doesn't explain why template editors cannot edit the page while everyone else who's autoconfirmed can edit the others. Why not just template protect all of them? 1989 (talk) 13:07, 20 March 2021 (UTC)
I do not have objection for decreasing. Was just curious about the reason. -- CptViraj (talk) 13:54, 20 March 2021 (UTC)
  •  Support I support decreasing the protection level to the template editors level, so that experienced users such as User:1989 will be able to edit those pages. 4nn1l2 (talk) 13:11, 20 March 2021 (UTC)

About the last copyvio, I can put a free photo instead of the one with an incomprehensible copyright status. Or I can send a request by mail to Press Service of President of Uzbekistan to try to get permission. So give some time and please don't jump to conclusions. Well, everyone makes mistakes.
