There might be items that I missed, but more likely than not I already got it. File:Global Overview of the Solutrean Hypothesis.jpg is available from [1] (image 7/13 of the slideshow) and is credited to "5W Infographics", so I don't believe this is {{PD-USGov-SI}}.   • Many of the remaining images of are of "stock" scenes like File:Far west town ai-generated.jpg which aren't associated with any specific source material. These may be OK from an IP perspective but their educational value seems minimal; what's the rationale for keeping them?
As the original commenter,  Delete. To expand upon my rationale a bit: media on Commons should serve some educational goal. If the goal is to depict towns in the "far West", we have numerous high-quality pictures of real ghost towns in that region, like File:Bodie ghost town.jpg. If the goal is to depict how this region is portrayed in fiction, there's Category:Westerns, including some entire movies which are in the public domain and extensive photos of movie sets, like Category:Film sets of The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. I have Deleted the more obvious COM:DW copyright problems. Some other images clearly were included in the nomination without good reason. If I understand correctly what I see on Google Lens, it appears that there are versions of this preceding the 2010 upload date on Flickr by several years, e.g. they date https://www.tourdebier.cz/a-jak-to-muze-vypadat-pro-externiho-pozorovatele/ as "Mar 30, 2006" (though it is lower-resolution). - Jmabel ! talk 03:31, 15 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Most of the other photos in that user's Flickr account have watermarks from wallpaper gallery web sites and/or are stock photos, and this image shows signs of having been upscaled poorly; notice the blocky, jagged edges on the wheels of the bicycles and along the backs of the riders, for example.  Delete; this is almost certainly a copyvio. Per w:et:Raekoja plats (Tartu), the building was completed in 1790 and restored in 1946 after damage from World War II. The sculpture passes the Estonian version of de minimis: the work is not the main subject of the pictorial reproduction (or the image file itself). This doesn't make sense to me. I understand that Minecraft is closed source so a general screenshot of landscape that was generated by the program or programmers would not be my work. But there are a huge number of photos of real buildings in the Wikimedia Commons. The person who took that photo of a building probably didn't build the building, they only took the photo. Isn't that "derivative" work? I made that Bitcoin icon myself with several hours of labor, and then I took the photos/screenshots. Two parts of the creative process were my own and that creative work would not exist without my significant efforts. Can the brick maker sue the architect for his "derivative" work? And then the architect sue the photographer for using their building in the photographic "derivative" work? All real buildings have copyrights, until they expire. In many countries, Commons photographs are permitted by laws which specifically exempt the photographs from being derivative works, see COM:FOP. However, that is a bad analogy. Think, instead, of drawings of real buildings, including both the architectural drawings used to construct them, renderings used to show them before construction, and post construction drawings. All of them have copyrights and you will not see them on Commons without a specific license from the creator.
The brick maker cannot sue because bricks aren't copyrighted, but the architect can sue a photographer in many countries (those with no FOP law) and can sue someone who copies his drawings in every country.

I agree that my analogy isn't perfect, but I think it's closer to accurate than yours James. Copies, or photos of architectural drawings would be more like copies or photos of computer code. No, sorry, you are wrong. As I noted above, there are explicit exemptions in some countries for photographs of actual buildings. Minecraft is not buildings. Your Disney block creation would be a sculpture. In any event, with limited exceptions which don't apply here, every created work has a copyright. While there are exceptions for actual buildings (and other things) in some countries, any other copy of such a work is a copyvio. Let's start from scratch. There is nothing international about this -- it is all US law and Commons rules. One of two things is true. Either:
  • You drew these completely from your own mind with no reference to anything on Minecraft, or
  • These are derived from or use images or parts of images from Minecraft.
In the first case, they are your personal creations and we do not keep personal art from non-notable artists, see COM:SCOPE.
In the second case, your images are derivative works of the copyrighted work of other people and therefore must be deleted as copyvios.

This seems to be the personal player model skin used by the uploader.  Comment File:Skin de Diamantum576.jpg has a watermark from novaskin.me/wallpapers, a page that seems to provide a functionality where you can place your own player skin into a pre-made wallpaper. They use CC-BY-SA-NC as a license for their stuff, so even if the background image was their own (which I'm tempted to doubt based on the other clearly non-free stuff they use) we can't keep it. --El Grafo (talk) 14:48, 10 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
 Comment File:The Feed The Beast Launcher.png seems to show a separate software called Feed The Beast Launcher, which is licensed {{Apache}}. The screenshot shows logos for different Minecraft modpacks which might not be part of that license, however. I've updated the page to show the Apache license, rather than the CC-own work claim. Checking the Feed the Beast modpack list the modpacks included in the screenshot are All Rights Reserved, which I would assume includes the logo too. It does not matter whether Mojang claim ownership or acknowledge the character, as this representation of it was made by modifying Minecraft textres. The Herobrine skin is clearly a derivative work of the Steve skin. Additonally, even if it were the sole authorship of the uploader on Gamepedia, the image is only licensed CC-BY-NC, which is not allowed on Wikimedia Commons. These photos are of a Minecraft Papercraft Chess board. The artwork on all the pieces is from the game Minecraft (by Mojang AB) and Pixel Papercraft may also arguably hold some copyright in the chess designs. These photos seem to exceed COM:DM, as the only purpose/value in the photos is to showcase the copyrighted artwork (i.e. blacking out the copyrighted parts would mean blocking out basically the entire photo). COM:DM Sweden would apply since Mojang AB is a Swedish company, and from the few examples listed on that page, it seems Sweden may have even stricter laws than the U.S., making it more likely these are not de minimis.

Moreover, I don't actually see anything in the image use policy that specifically states that all images/videos must be referenced/verified by a reliable source for inclusion. If you want please refer to something in the image use policy to support your viewpoint there. We know a massacre happened there, we have reliable sources on that, the timestamp on the video lines up with what I could find for the time this massacre took place, even looking briefly at google earth I can see the general area, color, shrubbery with trees, colour of trees, colour of dirt, matches that city. On the content policy portion, I understand that Commons is not Wikipedia, but I find the idea that there is no policy about verifiability and reliable sourcing unbelievable for a site so concerned with copyright violation. Can you link me to the Commons policy document you are referencing so I can get back to you on that? On the other points, I simply won't accept anything less than a source for where this video came from. I'm sure your geolocating skills are very good, but you're not in the chain of custody on this and this is a war. We should be wary of archiving anything (as someone else said) as "important documentary evidence of a significant historical event" when we don't know where it came from. Also, I admit my initial post was not the best at explaining my full rationale, which is verifiability, offensive content, and its educational value. I underestimated how controversial this would be.  Keep Regarding the content, it has obvious historical value. I don't see how it's any different than The Last Jew in Vinnitsa, which has been rated as a quality image on Commons. My concern is regarding the copyright. I've never been comfortable with the "CCTV has no inherent copyright" claim—in the US or elsewhere.  Keep OP's reasons for deletion were that it is 1) a "snuff film", 2) from Reddit, 3) he doesn't want it on certain Wikipedia articles. 2 and 3 and wrong prima facie; It doesn't matter where it came from so long as it is properly licensed and this is not Wikipedia. His first reason most closely falls under "Not educationally useful," which is also untrue. In Commons:

"educational" is to be understood according to its broad meaning of "providing knowledge; instructional or informative"

Hey everyone. I don't use Commons much, and I understand now that I made a "Commons is not Wikipedia" mistake. I do not think that the rationale I opened this thread with is appropriate for removal. Therefore, I think this thread should objectively be archived. However, I want to flag that Illegitimate Barrister has been uploading many graphic videos like this for quite some time without using them in any projects. I only noticed this because someone in the Wikipedia thread linked to a LiveLeak video of a suicide under the impression that the video was for use on Wikipedia. The uploader was the same, and I thought that was weird. I understand that the rationale for hosting on Commons is low, but (independently of their graphic content) is this a violation of COM:NOTUSED or COM:SPAM? Most recently, it seems to be mostly videos of police officers killing people and, IDK, maybe there's educational value there or maybe there isn't, but it does not seem to me like this content is intended to be used for anything. It is relatively simple to delete the work of others that may have taken many hours to create (without any intention of infringing copyright). Technically the onus is legitimately on the photographer\poster to ensure compliance with copyright but for tourists visiting countries this is almost impossible unless the work has a plaque attached, preferably with contact details. Morally the onus is on those deleting the work of others to contact the artist\sculptor to confirm their wishes in respect of copyright enforcement as many artists, when contacted, actually welcome a larger appreciation of their work, especially in an essentially non-commercial environment such as Wikimedia Commons.
With regard to this specific photograph\image it is questionable whether it does infringe any copyright given it is not the main subject of the photograph which is the building and the fact that this building cannot be photographed from this perspective without inclusion of the sculpture as well as the fact the sculpture in the image lacks focus\detail.

That said, and understanding that buildings in Estonia may also be subject to 'non-FOP rules', in this case the building is in the shade and partially obscured by the fountain discussed so if this building image is to be deleted then it would appear you are declaring that nearly every photograph\image taken outside in towns and cities of Estonia must now be deleted from Wikimedia Commons unless they have been granted specific authority for posting from the copyright-holder. I would respectfully suggest that you consult with higher level W-C Administrators before proceeding further in this regard. @Scotch Mist be ready to be disappointed, the side of public art authors (architects and artists) seem to prevail in these three Baltic states as opposed to content creators and Internet users. I don't see the fruit of the efforts made by Estonia-based Wikimedians. Even if their 2014-2017 advocacy was recently listed at meta:Copyright Repository#Copyright Reform Campaign Resources (Sortable Table), there has been no success in removing non-commercial and incidental ("not the main subject") restrictions in the Estonian FoP. This article by the Estonian parliament apparently tells us that despite majority support of many stakeholders to amend Estonian FoP, there is minority but strong opposition from authors (architects and artists). So I do not see Estonia going forward to Internet era (in which public artworks can be freely distributed and shared on Wikimedia, Facebook, Instagram, and other platforms even under commercial CC licenses), and will remain in backwards just like France, Romania, and Ukraine, where architects and artists control the appearance and images of public spaces. Apart from the Wikimedia and Wikipedia, this version of the file isn't used by anyone else. From my personal experience, most activists, NGOs, and CBOs show hesitation to use modified Indian Flag due to potential harassment under Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, 1971.  Keep – There are many photos of packaging elsewhere here and these seem to be fine. While "other stuff exists" is not a good argument, these would need to be addressed at well and that should likely be done at a broader level. Moreover, it would even be impossible to have all photographs of packaging required to be deleted since in a large fraction of photos some packaging is visible (including what could be called "complex" "label design"). Thus, it's clear that many, most or all images in that category are to be kept and that at least, you'd need to make a less indiscriminate DR.
The issue is with digital versions of the packaging or scans or them where you can crop the label out, but not mere photos like many/most in that category.
If you don't know of a better place or way to discuss this at a broader level, I'd suggest asking about it at Commons:Copyright rules by subject matter. Whatever is decided would also apply to photographs in which product labels can be seen as well as the many other product photographs not in this cat. Four Panoramio imports by Panoramio upload bot, categorized at Category:Public art in Albuquerque. The images show a stainless-steel sculpture found at the vicinity of the High Desert development. The area began to be developed in 1991, and the sculpture is verified to be found in the area. Assuming the sculpture dates to 1991 or later, it fails {{PD-US-no notice}} or even {{PD-US-1978-89}}. There is no complete freedom of panorama in the United States for free uses of images of public art. A commercial license permission from the artist or designer of this sculpture is required.

At the top corners of the videos, it seems that these videos were taken from the İHA (İhlas News Agency), TRT (Turkish Radio and Television Corporation) or someone else In particular, İHA is written in the corners of all videos published by Ekspres TV. The copyright owner is someone else. So these files will be deleted.

    Hmm. The building in 14 Mariankatu was built in 1939 (on page 21). I found another photo with a long caption here(photo taken 2010-10-26, 22nd photo from the bottom). Last 3 rows: "P.S. Ai niin, se Mariankatu 8/16:n "seinässä jokin muistokyltti (mitähän lukee?)": Siinä lukee "Här uppstod stadens brand 1855" ja samma på finska eli suunnilleen "Täältä alkoi kaupungin palo 1855". Kyltti kiinnitettiin pienen seremonian saattamana sata vuotta myöhemmin. Tontilla ei tarvitse kaivaa kuin 10-20 cm niin vastaan tulee hiiliä, kätkettyinä muistoina tuosta surullisesta tapahtumasta. Hiilet tulivat vastaan kun kätkin talon juurella pari pientä aarretta, jotka lienevät siellä edelleen." Photo of a mural, so COM:MURAL applies. The description says that XCOPY released their works under CC0, however the mural is not by XCOPY, according to https://streetartcities.com/cities/melbourne/markers/f3151e55-e920-4db5-8da2-6393d83c8dfe it is by "local artist World In Crisis" and there's no indication of what licensing applies to it. This link to the artist is not from a reliable source. I have reached out to building owner to determine whether this is Graffiti, whether the artist is known and whether the image is CC0. It is also not clear whether a direct copy of a CC0 artwork can be copyrighted in any way. The artist who created the original image has stated clearly the work is cc0. The Yanny/Laurel sound effect is copyrighted (see en:w:File:YannyLaurel.ogg), and although it could be de minimis and the video is public domain, it is the central subject of the video and is played several times throughout it. Removing the sound in question would make this significantly less useful as it provides context to the majority of it. Xeroctic (talk) 17:44, 15 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
