- Delete I don't see the point to have these files here, except for annoying people. --Yann (talk) 10:23, 12 January 2022 (UTC)
- Keep, Also not the first attempt. This isn't an attack it's a form of criticism and admins delete images for myriads of reasons like copyright laws and privacy protection, so pointing out that they delete images isn't an attack, it's literally what we expect of our volunteers with the tools to do so and this might mean that valuable images that are used in high visibility pages also get deleted. You've been trying for around 4 (four) years to get these deleted. Also it's never a good face for any establishment to deny any satire, a realistic way that these images could be used is in an article critical of admin action on Wikimedia websites, something which plenty of articles have been written about (see necessary websites like Wikopediocracy, numerous others like it, Reddit's WikiInAction, among others, as well as a number of Signpost articles about deletion debates, or just in general bad calls by admins when they are being discussed). Any image could be used as an attack image, a Vietnamese-Gernan user I know was constantly attacked with an in scope pornographic image by Musée Annam who was sexually harassing her, but that doesn't make that image less useful for educational purposes, it just means that he is a [insert explicitive here] (not meant as an actual attack, more like a joke, I don't hate him). --Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (No Fake News 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 10:27, 12 January 2022 (UTC)
- @Donald Trung: That attempt was just for File:Adminpedia-image.png, and I have precedent this time. The non-svg versions are still low quality, and all are still in poor taste. — Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me 11:14, 12 January 2022 (UTC)
- Low quality images usually only get deleted if a better quality image of that same image exists, as far as I can find there are no high quality versions of all images and SVG files shouldn't automatically lead to the deletion of non-SVG files, simply because in many cases many websites only allow the usage of JPEG and PNG images. I never said that they weren't in poor taste, but satire almost always is. In fact it's extremely rare to find satire that isn't in poor taste, but I don't think that this should be a reason for deletion onto itself, these images are simply critical of admin action and were used by "anti-establishment" users to express this. Again, I would not prefer to have an establishment that wouldn't tolerate satire of itself, especially mild satire like this. With "mild" I mean that much more condemning images (which could be seen as attack pages) could have been used. --Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (No Fake News 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 12:51, 12 January 2022 (UTC)

- Keep If one could argue that it was created only to attack/harass and also can only be used for that, then we might have a reason for deletion. As to the first I am not a mind reader, so I will admit that it's possible that they were created only for that purpose, but they can be used to show the power disparity in the project which hosts the website with the number of visitors per day being overshadowed only by Google (I am talking about the project we are on right now). So the question is: "Is criticism of the second most popular project on the web notable enough to have a few files?" I believe that the answer is: "We probably don't have enough". ℺ Gone Postal (〠 ✉ • ✍ ⏿) 13:06, 12 January 2022 (UTC)
Delete I'm all for intelligent, constructive, criticism -- we could use more of it. But these are not constructive. - Info for transparency: These "keep" votes from people active in German Wikipedia are now coming in because He3nry alerted the administrator's noticeboard there. Well, like He3nry, I'm an admin in German-language Wikipedia, and not only there, but here on Commons too, and I don't feel offended at all by these satirical "anti-admin" banners. This is a way for people who think that admins delete too much to let off some steam, it's entirely harmless. The basic variant File:Adminpedia.png is widely in use on user pages in German-language Wikipedia (per GlobalUsageCount 238 times!), for many years (it was created in 2006 and is basically part of de-WP's folklore, I'd say) and I never heard of an admin there who would have felt harassed by this. So, I'm joining the Keep votes, of course. Gestumblindi (talk) 20:20, 12 January 2022 (UTC)

- Keep I agree with 4nn1l2 - these images are not attack/harassment, although the irony they contain may not sit well with some people. A little off-topic, Debate between deletionism and inclusionism has been going on for over 10 years (even longer) in various projects, which reasonably explains why such images exist - and will also exist in the future. Pages in Category:Jefftemp (Commons ban pages)
[edit]- Category:Banned Commons users
- Commons:BAN
- Template:Banned user
- Template:Banned user/doc
- Template:Db-g5
- Template:Db-meta
These pages were created by Gwilliams124 by fiat against policy, as attempts to change COM:BP without consensus by importing concepts from enwiki. Banning has been considered here for many years to be too bureaucratic, and process creep. See also Commons:Administrators' noticeboard/User problems#Gwilliams124. — Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me 09:52, 1 May 2022 (UTC)
- Delete, no idea why this was allowed in the first place. The English-language Wikipedia's banning policy basically allows any individual admin to ban a user while it requires wide community consensus to unban a user, this basically means that once a user is banned (s)he's banned for life unless they managed to have made enough friends before the ban to vouch for them. Importing these templates and categories legitimises these user-unfriendly processes, though I do think that a number of these templates and categories for globally banned users would be useful, even though I'm personally against the concept of banning a user here locally because of conduct on another website. That aside, there are simply no good reasons to have a template that explicitly links to The English-language Wikipedia's banning policy to be used here, that simply doesn't make sense under any circumstances. --Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (No Fake News 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 09:59, 1 May 2022 (UTC)
- Comment, I'd like to try to assume good faith here, but I find is awfully suspicious that an account registered only 5 (five) days ago suddenly creates policy pages and imports the English-language Wikipedia's G5 speedy deletion policy and general banning policy without ever engaging any content or policy discussions here. My guess is that this might be trolling. Interestingly enough, at the Wikinews (where they have registered only 8 (eight) days ago they made a number of import sockpuppet templates). --Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (No Fake News 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 10:02, 1 May 2022 (UTC)

- Isn't this stretching the definition of "spam" here? Let's say that there's a photographer who own a business and wants that business to be attributed, if we get OTRS / VRT permission and link to their business in the attribution we'd consider that "a donation" and such content is welcomed. Yet if such photographers upload these high quality images themselves here wishing for the same attribution it somehow becomes "spam"?! The Wikimedia Commons contains a lot of images from commercial websites, as long as these images are realistically educationally valuable. Why delete the image when you can simply remove the links? That is even if links for attribution are considered unwanted. If these images were imported from Flickr with the same description nobody would complain. --Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (No Fake News 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 10:49, 6 July 2022 (UTC)
- @Donald Trung These are not links on Flickr that we have merely copied. This is part of a concerted effort directly on Commons to promote that website and sell more trees that has already seen deletion. — Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me 11:04, 6 July 2022 (UTC)
- Delete. These files are part of a larger group of files (mostly already deleted) that were uploaded in a multi-user effort that is clearly for the purpose of advertising. The links to a commercial website are not part of the file sourcing. They are embedded as part of descriptive text such as "Plant nursery specializing in large trees, buy trees". File names in some cases are promotional text plus the company name. I don't think the nominator is stretching the definition of spam at all here. In addition, some of the deleted uploads from this group were identical to images found on other websites and mostly likely falsely claimed as own work. Under these circumstances, Commons:Project scope/Precautionary principle may apply with regard to sourcing/attribution. If these images are kept, at minimum the promotional links should be removed from the structured data. Marbletan (talk) 13:15, 6 July 2022 (UTC)

This user has uploaded numerous photos of French nobles that were proven to be from various professional photographers and have already been deleted (there is a strong overlap in content with User:DyNosTooo, who also uploaded images of the House of Orleans from Getty Images and the like). The attached images, without meaningful Exif data, of different, partly very low resolution, and from different decades are in all probability not the work of the uploader.

This file was initially tagged by Rohalamin as Dw no source since (dw no source since) - although the file is sourced to Panoramio and confirmed license check was done. Please explain why this image was nominated? Ellin Beltz (talk) 00:12, 12 January 2022 (UTC)
- @Ellin Beltz, Morning, It's not the image. The problem is the sculpture. If you take a look here, You can see this paragraph "In either case, unless the underlying work is in the public domain or there is evidence that the underlying work has been freely licensed for reuse (for example, under an appropriate Creative Commons license), the original creator of the work must explicitly authorize the copy/ derivative work before it can be uploaded to Commons.
- In summary: you cannot trace someone else's copyrighted creative drawing and upload that tracing to Commons under a new, free license because a tracing is a copy without new creative content; likewise, you cannot make a movie version of a book you just read without the permission of the author, even if you added substantial creative new material to the storyline, because the movie requires the original book author's permission— if such permission were obtained, however, the movie would likely then be considered a derivative work entitled to its own novel copyright protection. "Derivative", in this sense, does not simply mean "derived from", it means, "derived from and including new creative content which is entitled to a new copyright."''". And also if you again take a look here, You can see this paragraph "According to article 2 of copyright law of Iran (passed on January 1, 1970) architectural works, designs, sketches and buildings and sculptures of all types are protected by copyright law.". Thus it doesn't matter that the file is sourced to Panoramio and confirmed license check was done. This file should be deleted. Rohalamin (talk) 05:49, 13 January 2022 (UTC)
- @Rohalamin: thank you for the clarity. This is a situation where sending it to deletion with an explanation would have gotten faster service! Cheers! Ellin Beltz (talk) 19:53, 13 January 2022 (UTC)

- @Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ) and RAN: There is insufficient information for me to proceed and much else for me to do here. You seem to know more about it, please add the data. The game here is to try to keep the images, not score points. Cheers! Ellin Beltz (talk) 19:55, 13 January 2022 (UTC)
- Sorry! I just see so many deletions that could be fixed with simple changes. Every new person uploading chooses the default settings, because our instructions are ambiguous. Are you asking for the date the original image was taken, the date it was published in the newspaper, or the date the image was scanned creating the derivative work. Most people choose the default settings. --RAN (talk) 20:00, 13 January 2022 (UTC)
- @Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ) and RAN: We need who took the photo and/or where was the photo published, the real date of original publication. If that's all ok, the current scan date and uploader can get credit too, but the first thing that has to be right is the original copyright supporting data. Thank you for staying on top of it! User has a history of uploading photos as "own work" when they are clearly not, resulting in a CCI on enwiki (en:Wikipedia:Contributor copyright investigations/Yprpyqp).
Obviously it's doubtful that OP painted this image. It appears to be PD-old/PD-art, but I can't find any details about any source image - a title, a painter, a date, an era even. I cannot for the life of me find an original source for the digital image, and I have tried every reverse image search technique that I can. At this point I consider it impossible to verify if it actually is PD-old - for all we know this is a detailed replica-in-style created in the modern era. Since background detail is unavailable, the only option is to delete as unverifiable. Premeditated Chaos (talk) 01:43, 12 January 2022 (UTC)

- Comment - Uploader also claims that this is taken from the Met exhibition. They also uploaded another file showing this dress actually on display in the Met exhibition, File:Swan_Dress.jpg which is clearly on a different mannequin to that in the "edited" photo. It's not implausible that File:Swan_Dress.jpg was taken by the uploader (as there are quite a lot of similar photos taken by different visitors floating around out there, some VERY similar but with the text behind the mannequin differently aligned) but it is disingenuous to claim that File:Swan Dress Edited.jpg is also from the exhibition when it is clearly on a different mannequin. Prayer plaques showing probably recently-composed prayers
[edit]Images show two subjects, which are plaques showing recent Tagalog prayers, one from 1999 and one from 2012. Prayers are free to use for non-commercial uses by the church and their parishioners, but these are not free to be sold commercially, against COM:Licensing#Forbidden licenses and the rule at COM:Derivative works. Commons requires underlying works to be freely-usable even for commercial purposes. Prayers are copyrightable by virtue of civil laws, which Commons adheres (canon law is irrelevant as we are concerned on free distribution in commercial media outside the church realm). This is a form of literary work, but there is no freedom of panorama in the Philippines. Needs commercial license from the authors of these prayers, for the 2012 one likely alive, for the 1999 one if already dead, heirs of the author of the prayer.

- @FBenjr123 if it isn't a prayer, how come there is "Sa Ngalan ng Ama, ng Anak, at ng Espirito Santo" ("In the Name of the Father, of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit") as introductory passage? But whether if the two plaques show prayer or not, the written prose is copyrightable. As long as the authors put sufficient effort, whether the indicated prose is flowery or not. And you cannot use the logical fallacy of "OTHER STUFF EXISTS"; the English article you pointed out contains images of clearly public domain literary works. But these two plaques show recent literary works from 1999 and 2012. JWilz12345 (Talk|Contrib's.) 15:47, 13 January 2022 (UTC)

This is apparently a scan of a 1970 German postcard. It is claimed to be {{Copyrighted free use}}, but I don't see any rationale at all why that should be the case, and I doubt that it is true. The file should therefore be deleted per the precautionary principle unless conclusively shown to be under a free license (or in the PD, but that seems rather unlikely for a 1970 German work). Deleted: per nomination and partly RAN: The first two are drawings of city plans, with colors in pencil. Usually such drawings mention an author at the bottom left side of the drawing, but these image are a cut-out of the original. So per COM:PRP we must assume the drawings are not anonymous and possibly still copyrighted. When more than 120 years old (including the colored sections, which are made at an unknown date) the images can be undeleted.
File:Банк ZIBA.jpg is showing a contact print of a photo of 1926. It is not shown if this has been published anonymously. So possibly still copyrighted.

- @P199: I had removed it from pl.wiktionary but it was wrongly added back by a bot. The pl.wiktionary entry is of the English and not a Polish word, so it is an incorrect pronunciation. As long as the file remains undeleted, bots will keep adding them to entries. — SGconlaw (talk) 04:11, 6 February 2022 (UTC)
Reopening this deletion request. The file contains an incorrect pronunciation and is thus not reasonably useful for any project. I have removed it from places where it is used, but so long as the file remains undeleted it seems that bots keep re-adding it to entries. — SGconlaw (talk) 04:17, 6 February 2022 (UTC)

- https://twitter.com/muratpak/status/1465342092457164803 Pmmccurdy (talk) 17:33, 12 January 2022 (UTC)
- Not quite, the question being answered there is "are we ok to right-click save some work for @Wikimedia to feature on your @Wikipedia page?" rather than Pak explicitly releasing their work as CC-Attribution for commercial reuse outside of that one Wikipedia page.
- File:The Node.png has the same problem. --Lord Belbury (talk) 23:09, 24 January 2022 (UTC)

- Keep I think the letters/text are {{PD-text}}. I doubt there is any creative authorship in this short text. It think it is fcts, data, and unoriginal information. --MGA73 (talk) 18:59, 12 January 2022 (UTC)
- Delete The threshold of originality for text isn't particularly high in the US. See this case where the US Copyright Office registered a two sentence joke, finding that it had a "modicum of intellectual labor". The text on the sign isn't formulaic enough that it couldn't have been written in any other way. Barring some other reason why the text could be PD (if there was some evidence it was posted before 1989), this looks copyrighted. Vahurzpu (talk) 04:31, 14 January 2022 (UTC)
- Delete I'm going to have to disagree with MGA73 here. While the text may be written in simple language, it is not below the threshold of originality. The creativity required under Feist is quite low, especially for text. This work is not "devoid of even the slightest traces of creativity", and phrasing like "stuck with him for the rest of his life" or "Cowboys swore by his saddles" are copyrightable expression, not the uncopyrightable facts the work is based on. --AntiCompositeNumber (talk) 04:33, 14 January 2022 (UTC)
- Hi AntiCompositeNumber! Thank you for your input. According to this book "each man swore by his own saddle". That is very similar to "Cowboys swore by his saddles" so you could argue that the copyright the phrasing of "swore to a saddle" belongs to the author this book. If from 1922 and author died in 1950 then there is a good chance it is out of copyright.
- According to Commons:Project scope/Precautionary principle there have to be a significant doubt. We do not delete everything just because the may be a risk. We delete if the risk is significant. So do we see ghosts or is there a real risk here? In my understanding "significant" means there have to be more than a 0.2% risk or 5% risk. We are talking a higher risk and since it was uploaded in 2009 and there is still no lawsuits then I think it confirms that there is not a significant risk here.
- Off topic: If the term really is copyrighted do we have to delete this DR too? The license terms say "all unstructured text is available under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License" and that would not be correct if the term is copyrighted? --MGA73 (talk) 15:56, 14 January 2022 (UTC)
- The requirement is not that a work be novel, but original. To quote from Feist again, Originality does not signify novelty; a work may be original even though it closely resembles other works, so long as the similarity is fortuitous, not the result of copying. The terms themselves are not important, but the inclusion of figurative language above and beyond the "bare historical facts" indicates copyrightable authorship. ...If the compilation author clothes facts with an original collocation of words, he or she may be able to claim a copyright in this written expression. Others may copy the underlying facts from the publication, but not the precise words used to present them. Id.I can also quote from COM:PCP, namely the part that "nobody has complained" about copyright problems is not a reason to keep a file. AntiCompositeNumber (talk) 16:13, 14 January 2022 (UTC)
- I know that it also say "nobody has complained" and that is not my main argument. The reason I use it is to illustrate that there is no significant risk because the creative work in that sign is low. There are plenty of examples of copyright claims related to Category:Statue of the Little Mermaid (Copenhagen) and many copyright claims related to music and litterature. But are there any related to en:National Ranching Heritage Center or en:Texas Tech University and info signs?
- Feist state that facts can't be protectet only originality can. If i type "maks.ævtbhiop iy" it is probably original but I think the originality is below COM:TOO. The originality above is to change a few words from "each man swore to his own saddle" to "Cowboys swore by his saddles" and I also believe that "stuck with him for the rest of his life" was invented by the creator of the sign. I have heard many talking about being "stuck with someeone for the rest of their life" (just google it ans see how many hits there are).
- Anyway someone asked if it was before 1989. The en:National Ranching Heritage Center was founded in 1969 so there is a good chance that it was. --MGA73 (talk) 06:46, 18 January 2022 (UTC)
- Normally I don't scrutinize this closely, but I am reviewing Billy Hathorn images as part of an investigation on all of their edits and image uploads, most of which have now been transferred to commons. Almost any non-building/landscape image violates FOP in some way from this person and I've found multiple instances of straight up lying about what is depicted. Sennecaster (talk) 19:02, 19 January 2022 (UTC)
- @Sennecaster: I have probably moved many files from Billy Hathorn to Commons with my bot and I have never seen cases where he lied. I have tried to avoid statues because they can violate FOP. But as you know I have not seen simple text as a big problem. In case you want to read it I started a discussion at Commons talk:Project scope/Precautionary principle about how big a risk we can accept. --MGA73 (talk) 16:27, 20 January 2022 (UTC)

The fact that Ali Pasha had a medallion with this design does not give us the license to create a 'representative banner' that is completely ahistorical. The fact that this is already in use in WP projects to symbolize Ali Pasha's state shows how quickly such invented symbols can proliferate. Constantine ✍ 15:38, 12 January 2022 (UTC)

The only question is if this is too simple for copyright. COM:CRT/Belgium provides no guidance on the threshold of originality for Belgium. Whpq (talk) 14:36, 12 January 2022 (UTC)

[edit]Variations of a logo for the youth section of a British political party. {{PD-textlogo}} applied. No usage on Wikimedia projects. The threshold of originality is very low for UK works, see COM:TOO UK. The logo contains a graphic element (a bird cut from a circle), used in place of the letter 'O'. Sufficient effort (from a UK perspective) is likely to have been expended and the logo is potentially sufficiently original to qualify for copyright protection in its country of origin (the UK). For public domain works Wikimedia Commons only accepts media that are in the public domain in at least the United States and in the source country of the work.

- The logo consists of letters in various shapes and handwriting (i.e. „general typeface or basic handwriting“). It is not an original text protected by copyright laws. - Keep No "PDD" is required since there is no piece of art. There is some text and a very simple graphic (three crowns) only. -- Ies (talk) 09:02, 13 January 2022 (UTC)

- Keep I have a problem with calling it a duplicate. There is a difference between a scan of a stamp and a design of the stamp. Of course, the scan will have things that some may call imperfections, but they are exactly what makes them useful. Secondly, we are not talking about an upscaled image here, but about the image that is actually of a higher resolution. Thirdly the nominator says "Дубликаты на Викискладе недопустимы" (Duplicates are disallowed on Commons), and I believe this is a gross oversimplification of the policy. ℺ Gone Postal (〠 ✉ • ✍ ⏿) 07:55, 12 January 2022 (UTC)

There is no complete freedom of panorama in Congo-Brazzaville. Incidental inclusion is only permitted for photos of copyrighted works. The building is a significant subject here, too big and prominent to be considered "incidental". It was designed by Jean Marie Legrand and completed in 1986. See also Commons:Deletion requests/Files in Category:Nabemba Tower. The image is used on an article about the building: w:en:Nabemba Tower. JWilz12345 (Talk|Contrib's.) 15:26, 12 January 2022 (UTC)

There is no complete freedom of panorama in Congo-Brazzaville. Photos are only legal to be reused commercially if the artistic work/s is/are incidental. - Good morning,
- these are all photos I personally took except for "Foto d'epoca di Villa Vescovi.png" which is a photo took from a vintage postcard of the 1970s (with no reference to the author) and "Villa Berlese.jpg" which was found on the internet.
- Because of this, I believe that "Villa Vescovi.png" and "Facciata Villa Vescovi.jpg" should not be deleted.
- On the other hand, if you think that "Cancello di Villa Vescovi.jpg" has a disparate quality and style, then you may delete it. AllispossibleTech (talk) 10:29, 13 January 2022 (UTC)

- Keep The images of the artist and his works are all PD-Italy. Italy gives 20 years of copyright for anonymous images and 70 years to the works of an artist. The artist died in 1933. You can fix noob mistakes yourself. --RAN (talk) 05:04, 13 January 2022 (UTC)
- Comment We're not given years for the three paintings, and they're not dated in it:Millo Bortoluzzi either. If the painter died in 1933, his works were still protected in Italy on the URAA restoration date in 1996, so any post-1926 works of his would still be protected in the US. --Rosenzweig τ 15:17, 4 June 2022 (UTC)
Kept: It is not clear whether this image/these images have been published in the USA, so according to Commons:Hirtle chart these images might very well be licensed with Template:PD-old-70, because the author died more then 70 years ago.. The Wikimedia Foundation – through the statement of the Legal department - does not see a reason to delete content simply because of general concern about the URAA. The guideline of Commons at COM:URAA states “A mere allegation that the URAA applies to a file cannot be the sole reason for deletion. If the end result of copyright evaluation is that there is significant doubt about the freedom of a file under U.S. or local law, the file must be deleted in line with the precautionary principle.” In this case, the file/files are clearing in PD in Italy, so they can be maintained on Commons. --Ellywa (talk) 14:00, 7 June 2022 (UTC)

- comment of uploader on Commons talk:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by David Ll L. Ellywa (talk) 22:27, 12 January 2022 (UTC)
- Keep for the images of the artist prior to 1952 with no photographer named, they would be "PD-EU-no author disclosure". EU law allows them to be clawed back if the author becomes known. We also have to determine if the uploader is a family member who inherited the copyrights of the artworks and they can be released under "Cc-by-sa-4.0-heirs". The images appear to be from a personal collection of the family. --RAN (talk) 05:49, 13 January 2022 (UTC)
- @Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ): Template:PD-EU-no author disclosure is applicable for images who have been published more than 70 years ago. The uploader did not give evidence that the images have been published and when. They might come from an archive. As can be read on the talk page, the uploader is having contact with the daughter of the painter, who might give permission for publication of the paintings on Commons. We should wait a bit until she does, but she first has to be aware of the content of the licenses used at Commons. Ellywa (talk) 18:54, 13 January 2022 (UTC)
- Published for copyright purposes, means making a copy available to the public, not just appearing in a magazine or newspaper. The original creation by a commercial photographer is the original camera negative (OCN) and positive copies sold to the person posing for the image, starts the copyright clock. If the image stayed with the creator, it would remain unpublished. --RAN (talk) 19:15, 13 January 2022 (UTC)
- I have not seen you interpretation of publishing before. It would mean all photos older then 70 years would be in PD. Alas, this is not the case. In addition, per ref template, the publication should be anonymous. I do not think handing the print of the photo to the client can be seen as anonymous publishing. But we will see what decision an admin will make based on our arguments. Ellywa (talk) 21:56, 13 January 2022 (UTC)
- Not all photos, Corbis and Getty Images would buy historic photo studios negatives most never turned into prints, so still under copyright as unpublished. We have over 10,000 Hollywood publicity images in Commons that were never published, just distributed to a member of the public. It varies from country to country, for Sweden portrait photos were not afforded a copyright until 1977. --RAN (talk) 06:45, 21 January 2022 (UTC)
- BTW, the stamp of the photographer might be present on the backside of the original prints, who knows.... The uploader did not check anything, please read the talk page. Ellywa (talk) 21:59, 13 January 2022 (UTC)
- I have seen all the mesages and I'm actually carryng out the process about the publication of the images whith the Wikipedia VRT and the heir to publish it to public domain. Also I have seen that you have not read any date because there are works that are obviusly not from the autor as the charcoal drawings from the bussines (from 1862 and 1898) that it is imposible that he made with 1 or with -35 years old, or the photographs of his parents, who died in 1931 and 1944 or another works that are not from anyone as the invitation to a exhibition (the table carée paintings).
- As I said, I'm carryng out the process about the publication and the heir is at the same time preparing the questionnaire.

VRT agent: Sorry about this. I've accepted some permissions, but then I've notice there are a lot of different painters. We can't accept a permission from the owner of the paintings. - VRT agent: I've accepted ONLY the works by J. Lajoie. The copyright status of all the rest of files remains unclear, including File:J. Lajoie modelando.png. Regards. --Ganímedes (talk) 15:00, 24 April 2022 (UTC)
Comment I have added annotations to each of the files to facilitate the closing of the DR. Those with VRT permissions can be kept of course, most others will probably have to be deleted and and can be restored in various years. There is a claim that the photos are "anonymous", but is that really the case? Several seem to be studio portraits by professional photographers, those usually came (in those days) with some kind of print on the back or below the actual photo which named the studio/photographer. None of them seem to be yet old enough for {{PD-old-assumed}}.
@Ganímedes: There is still a rather large number of works by Lajoie that were not marked as having a VRT permission (I have marked them as "no VRT permission" above). Is that intentional? --Rosenzweig τ 15:23, 6 June 2022 (UTC)

- @Rosenzweig: Not intentional at all. Very sorry. There are 91 photos in the ticket and I didn't notice there was a second category with JL artworks. I think I've tagged them all now. Regards. --Ganímedes (talk) 22:06, 6 June 2022 (UTC)

- It's not French, but Spanish almost all. --Ganímedes (talk) 01:10, 7 June 2022 (UTC)
- He was a Frenchman who was born in France and died in France. He spent some time in Spain after World War II because one of his daughters (presumably the one giving the permissions?) had married a Spaniard. So copyright-wise, I guess we should treat his works as French (does not really matter with the permissions though), and also most of the photographs here are clearly French. --Rosenzweig τ 01:25, 7 June 2022 (UTC)
- Ahh... So "French" means "French photo" and not "writen in French". Ok, I understand now. Sorry for my confusion. --Ganímedes (talk) 10:30, 7 June 2022 (UTC)

Kept: the Lajoie works, all with a VRT permission now, also a drawing by Albert Robida and two simple, presumably Spanish photographs (with {{PD-Spain-photo}} and {{PD-1996}}). Deleted all of the other artwork by other artist, including one unsigned engraving without a source that is said to show something in 1898, which does not necessarily mean it's from 1898 (the other, "1862" drawing by Albert Robida was presumably also done later than 1862 because Robida would have been only 14, and I recently deleted a 1989 French postcard with the drawing of an 18th century town on it that was done by a modern artist "after an old view of the town"). I also deleted most of the photographs, except the two that were definitely taken in Spain. There was a demand to label them as "anonymous" and then say "Oops" and "claw them back" if the author becomes known and turns out to have died less than 70 years ago. That's not how it works, all I've seen is scans etc., I don't know the proper sources and can't tell if they're really "anonymous" in a legal sense. If they're over 120 years old, I can use {{PD-old-assumed}}, but they're not yet old enough. Many of them were given a date, helping to fill in the gaps for the rest mainly from the appearance of people or circumstances like military garb. I've added undeletion categories for all deleted files, based on 70 years pma if the author's year of death is known, based on PD-old-assumed if it is not known. If new facts about the dating of some of these files or the place they were taken (Spain instead of France?) turn up, please let me know, they might enable earlier undeletions. --Rosenzweig τ 15:59, 7 June 2022 (UTC)
