Hi. You have entered a notice on lack of permission on this picture. I am in doubt. The picture is from the Labour Party National Convention. At this meeting I took hundreds of pictures of speakers and other participants. A lot of those are uploaded. One of the speakers was Hillary Clinton, but as she was not present, her speech (a tribute to former party leader Brundtland on the occasion of her 70th birtday) was presented on video. I understand that the video produscing company or the Labour Party might have rights to the video. On the other hand it seems odd that the presentation form itself should put this picture in another licence category than those of speakers present.

However, this is not an important picture, and I will not spend time on getting any permissions, so feel free to delete it if you should decide that to be necessary. Regards, --GAD (talk) 07:39, 13 August 2009 (UTC)

Copyright Doubt

Hi,

I am a sysop at the Malayalam Wikipedia. Could you help me with some copyright clarification? My basic doubt is this : A user uploads a photo on Flickr saying it is copyrighted to him. Later he uploads the same photo to Wikipedia with a Creative commons license. Is this acceptable under Wikipedia policy? Where is the policy page regarding this?

My personal belief is that the original creator of the work can change the license from unfree to free anytime. But I am unsure. I would really appreciate it if you could help in this regard - some pictures have been proposed for deletion on Malayalam Wikipedia due to this. Could you reply on my talk page in Malayalam Wikipedia?

I am pretty sure that the two people are the same. On his user page Mithu has said that his flickr profile is this one. Also in each photo uploaded he has said that the photo has been taken by himself. I wasn't sure whether it is all right if someone uploads a photo as copyrighted/noncommercial etc on flickr and later without those restrictions on Wikipedia.

Zuerst danke ich Dir, dass Du mich in meiner Muttersprache kontaktiert hast, was ich sehr zu schätzen weiss.

Konkret scheint es Dir um 1) diese Versionsänderung und 2) diesen nachträglichen Edit (beide 12.2.2010) bei Category:Ravi Shankar zu gehen; warum das nicht gleich von Anfang an unmissverständlich erwähnen ;-)
(während der letzten 24 Stunden hatte ich schätzungsweise 250 Edits vorgenommen und rund 20 Dateien hochgeladen)

Jedem von uns darf es im Verlauf einer langen Nacht mal passieren, bei den verschachtelten Kategorien "voller als nötig" zu kategorisieren respektive konkret zu übersehen, dass "Vocalists from India" eine Unterkategorie von "Musicians from India" ist und einige zusätzliche aus Deiner Sicht redundanter Kategorien zu verwenden ...

Aus meiner Sicht sind solche Kleinigkeiten kommentarlos zu berichtigen, ohne gleich eine "Benutzerdiskussion" in der o.e. Weise als "dringlich" zu erachten :-(

Dein Versionskommentar "rm interwikilinks redundant to page, cleanup categories" ist aus meiner Sicht mit "thx... but galleries are 'additions' to the more relevant categories, "non-redundant" categories/iwl's re-established: "red" categories will be done from time to time, as always done before ;-)" hinreichend beantwortet, zudem mit Category:Padma Vibhushan recipients eine der vorgängig zwei "roten Kategorien" mittlerweile in einer Kaffeepause erstellt ist ;-)

Im übrigen sei auf die für mich zentralen Hilfeseiten unter Categorisation verwiesen — ich habe mit keinem Wort auch nur angedeutet, dass "Seiten unwichtig sind und stattdessen interwikilinks auf die Kategories gehören".

Um auf Deine "Interpretationen" zu meinem Diskussionsverhalten einzugehen:

Meine Tätigkeit innerhalb von commons ist auf der Benutzerseite unmissverständlich umrissen, ebenso, dass mir die Zeit für Diskussionen schlichtweg fehlt: Entweder Kategorisieren & Uploaden oder "Diskutieren"; für beides zusammen reicht meine Freizeit nicht aus. Interpretationen zu meinem "Diskussionsbedarf" sind unnötig und wirken beleidigend.

Zum andern ist Englisch die "Haussprache" in Wikimedia commons, und mein Englisch (siehe Babelbausteine) ist offen gesagt im Verständnis ganz passabel, im Schreiben und insbesondere Wahrnehmen von sprachlichen Feinheiten doch sehr beschränkt, weshalb ich "Diskussionen" zusätzlich auf wirklich "Wichtiges" beschränke. Welche "Themen" das üblicherweise sind, geht ebenfalls aus den Diskussionsseiten deutlich hervor.
Zudem steht es jeder/jedem Commons-NutzerInnen frei, sich auf der eigenen Benutzerseite zu erbeten, dass sich "Gäste" an die "Hausregeln" halten sollten, imho eine Frage der "Nettiquette".

"Wichtig" sind für mich persönlich im übrigen Löschanträge von "own works", allfällige Korrekturen von Bildbeschreibungen, Bilderwünsche aus meinen "Spezialgebieten" (siehe Benutzerseite) und ggf. Lizenzfragen; alles andere gehört meines Erachtens auf die Diskussionsseiten von Galerien, Kategorien und ggf. Bildbeschreibungen oder eben Versionskommentare, sodass es jederfrau überlassen bleibt, ob sie/er sich daran beteiligt oder auch nicht ;-)

Nichts für ungut bitte, nimm bei Category:Ravi Shankar bitte die Dir passend erscheinenden Änderungen vor, im übrigen habe ich ja an der Galerieseite nichts geändert.

Category:Dong Ho painting

Hi, you've just tagged the whole Category:Dong Ho painting as unsourced. In fact they are traditional products that dated back to 18th or even 17th century (you can check from verified source in en:Dong Ho painting) so I think there's no problem about copyright for those pictures. About the original source, the problem is that the user who uploaded them was not active at Wikipedia for a very long time so I'm afraid that it's impossible to ask that user for the source that he/she used to upload. Could you help me to find out a reasonable way to keep those pictures? For example, can I use a source such as this one to represent the source of uploading? Thank you. The account is therefore listed as an unreliable source at Commons:Questionable Flickr images.

I have initiated a review of all files taken from this Flickr user that I could find. Since you uploaded one or more of those files to Commons, you may wish to comment at Commons:Deletion requests/Files from Bob Bobster on Flickr. Hallo und dankeschön für den Hinweis, leider erfolgt Dein Einwand etwas spät ;-) Meinerseits ist das "Projekt" Category:Centuries in India. d.h. die Kategorisierung historischer Bilder aus Indien (Category:Historical images of India) aus meiner Sicht bereits vor Deiner Nachricht vollumfänglich abgeschlossen gewesen.

Die Mehrheit "unklarer" ("ca." Datumsangaben) sollte ich wie von Dir erwähnt gehandhabt haben, bei aber vermutlich insgesamt ein bis zwei Tausend nun "Datums-kategorisierten" historischen Bildern werden sich mit Sicherheit Fehler eingeschlichen haben, und so danke ich Dir für die sicherlich ja bereits erfolgte Korrektur im der von Dir gedachten Weise.

btw: Die Einrichtung der Datumsbezogenen Kategorien für das 21. Jahrhundert ist übrigens nur der Vollständigkeit erfolgt und könnte bei allfälligem Interesse (ist meinerseits nicht beabsichtigt) analog beispielsweise Category:Switzerland by month weiter ausgebaut werden.

I am very much a newb in uploading images. I actually drew afflatus from File:Sushmita_Sen1.jpg, which happens to have the same water mark. Well, now i learn that the file solicits this email thing for it to stay. I would rather not do it because i think it aint worth the chore. If you would like to do the email stuff, that would be very kind of you. Well, i have stopped uploading images :D; i would preferably play with alphabets so i don't have to shoulder the liability of obtaining a license. Thank you very much for apprising me. The latter indeed was a mistake as i thought google earth pics were copyright free and i didn't complain when this one was deleted. But the two first ones are scans from personal family pics (as it shows at the borders). PLease tell me how i have to prove. Trying to understand your mixup, i can summarize there had been 4 pics removed by bots (and removed actually because i had been transparent about their source). These have not been reclaimed as i realized they were probably rightfully deleted. Then there were the two added ones from personal stock. Which is the one named "own work" ? i cant recallm but you imply here bad faith so I would ask some prcision. In any case you've mixed the two last with one of the previous 4. So I would ask immediate restituition of Librairie_PB and CdlLL_PB since your accusation is both imprecise and mixed, what is serious specially if you are asking overall deletion. I did not pull the image from the site; I actually work for the campaign and was given the file to put up on the wikipedia page. I am not copyright-savvy, so I do not know whether taking the image from the website or receiving it from a coworker on the campaign makes any difference. As per the uploader in mlwiki, the same kind of illustrations are being used widely in most of the immunology books. He has taken only the idea from it and re-drawn entirely. What you are quoting is basically called "fair use" & not allowed on commons. Regarding the image itself, imo the file on ml.wiki is fine. The drawing and style are {{Own}}, and the information on which the drawing is based is not copyrightable. Inhaltlich ist das natürlich eine politische Geschichte, aber gerade auf Commons wird doch "no censorship" immer gefordert. Meinungsfreiheit, Demokratie und Politische Bildung fallen sicherlich auch unter "educational purpose", so wie auf Commons erwünscht. Ich könnte das im Video vorherrschende Grau höchstens etwas dunkler machen und den Kontrast anpassen, wird aber wahrscheinlich auch nicht viel bringen. Dein Problem war ja, so wie ich das Verstanden habe, der Download von YouTube zu deinem PC. Das geht hier mit SeaMonkey als Browser(oder auch mit Firefox) mittels des Addons "DownloadHelper" (http://www.downloadhelper.net/) recht einfach, das Hochladen dauerte dann allerdings ca. 90min., da es hier leider nur Schmalspur-DSL gibt. Image clarification

Hi, I recently got a message like this. Of these 3 images except File:Jayalalitha Early Star.JPG, all are mine. Please trust me. The jayalalitha image alone was uploaded by Kumarrajendran (talk). This jayalalitha image is already there in wiki page Tamil cinema and Dravidian politics. But it is not there in wiki commons. Clearly note that I found this image was not uploaded in wikicommons. So I uploaded it there and later wanted to add this jayalalitha image in "jayalalitha article" in wiki.

I thought re-uploading a file to wikicommons from already available image in wiki, is allowed. Since it is stated in the original uploaded page Tamil cinema and Dravidian politics description by Kumarrajendran (talk) at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Jjkumar.JPG -- "I grant any entity the right to use this work for any purpose, without any conditions, unless such conditions are required by law."

The only problem it went is -- I uploaded it in wikicommon saying it is mine. Thats it. As explained above I thought I can do so. Please understand this. This image was already there in wiki main article ONLY. I uploaded it in wikicommons for other purposes, inorder to re-use it for jayalalitha article.

Other than this both other images are mine ONLY. Why are you guys make me go hanged again & again like this. I also do edit and upload after reviewing all the instruction. Seeing everything in doubt is not good and crushes users like me. I am totally got mad when again and again this is raised against me. Please please for God sake try to reach me. !!!

Hi. These files don't seem to be in order but have been included in Wikipedia pages since June. Isn't that problematic? No changes were made to them since June either - it doesn't look like there is a more than month-long discussion happening that attempts to resolve their copyright, or is it? Hi Hekerui, we have a 30 day period for OTRS cases as it is not uncommon for these cases to take that long. One problem is the OTRS backlog, the other the time consuming exchange of emails with third parties who are not familiar with free licenses etc. For these processes it is helpful to see the actual uploads for some considerable time such that the copyright holders can see what a permission refers to. And these files are already tagged; the tags are {{OTRS pending}} (initially used by the uploader) and {{OTRS received}} (confirmation by an OTRS member that we have an open ticket for it). Whenever concerns arise, they should be addressed at COM:ON. But there is no need to double tag these files. Regards, AFBorchert (talk) 08:57, 8 July 2011 (UTC)

Duration of copyright

Of course. Look at here (page 22, article 96). This is the Copyright and Related Rights Law adopted in 1998, and it was repealed in December 2004. So, in Serbia, the works of authors who died before 1954 (2004-50=1954) are in public domain. Bollywood Hungama

I just retagged a few BH uploads with {{Cc-by-3.0-BollywoodHungama}}, replacing the generic tag, so they are now in the unreviewed cat. Also, we now have a significant amount of uploads from Filmitadka.com who have a similar CC-BY release for images their photographers take at parties, but that is being misinterpreted to include other images at parties, should we start a similar process for that source too? cheers. Please see this file. Text in this file was written in Ninth century by some unknown person. However the present file is scannned copy of a 1959 edition.

1. Can we use this?
2. If not, can we use this by removing title page, prologue etc.?

We could asume that he was not famous before that date and then wonder if it is likely that his photo was published before that date. Hi Itu, ja, ich hab es zu der Zeit am vollständigen Bild gesehen, aber jetzt ist die Lizenz dafür geändert worden und wir können das Bild nicht mehr hochladen - sich auf eine damalige Lizenz für ein Werk zu berufen, das so hier noch nicht hochgeladen war, von dem nur eine Ableitung legal existiert, und dem jetzt hinreichende Lizenzierung enzogen wurde, ist trotz des Nichtzurücknehmenkönnens problematisch. Hi. I remember long time before we had some talks on commons. I need your help here. Recently I uploaded this image (1). It seems now there comes a new issue about the authors work. I have contacted the author and waiting for some response and as per response I believe we can move forward. But Hekerui on what basis that account was black-listed (This will help me so that next time I can watch out for author's status. I would like to share this also: after my upload I did some research and found no where that image being downloaded from some sites or taken from else-where. So with that I believe it must have been his own work (only based on my research I say this) but still when there are some doubts it is better we go by rules. Hi, Hekerui. I think this file, and all Arthur Goss's work, is PD in the US because its copyright expired in Canada prior to the URAA date. Goss died in 1940, so his work entered the public domain in Canada on January 1st, 1991 (end of the calendar year in which he died plus fifty years). More precisely, OTRS permission would be great for all logos (so asking the uploader if they claim own work does not harm); otherwise please stick to COM:TOO. Meaning, it depends on the country. Mondrian image

Dear Hekerui, I noticed you've uploaded an image of Gray Tree by Mondrian. There are several problems with that image: its was apparently scanned from a book, catalogue or magazine (it's riddled with halftone dots of different shades and colors), the contrast was overpoweringly pushed, the paintings edges were overly cropped, and the colors (tones of grey) were not accurate. I've replace that image with one that does not present these problems. In the future, if you do upload more images of paintings, by Mondrian or others, please check the website of the museum (or gallery) where it is located. They usually have professional photographers that attempt to reproduce the picture faithfully (which is quite difficult). Unfortunately, others too often accentuate contrasts and colors (because they like it better that way) deviating significantly from a true representation of the original work. Paul Klee

... is a particularly complicated case when it comes to US copyright situation. See the detailed copyright section at Category:Paul Klee explaining things. Works by Klee from his last Swiss period (1933 and later) are most likely not affected by the URAA (as the copyright on his works expired on January 1, 1991 in Switzerland and thus wasn't restored by the URAA in the US), only Klee works published from 1923 to 1933 (in Germany). Zu diesem Edit deinerseits: Nein, da hattest du keinen Aussetzer - wäre Klee tatsächlich erst 1944 gestorben, hätte in der Schweiz für seine Werke schon der 1993 auf 70 Jahre p.m.a. angehobene Schutz gegolten und damit wäre dann auch der URAA zum Zuge gekommen. Da er 1940 starb, lief der Schutz jedoch nach der damals geltenden Schutzfrist von 50 Jahren 1991 ab (und wurde bei der Anhebung auf 70 Jahre 1993 nicht wiederhergestellt, siehe dazu Sternheim-Urteil des Bundesgerichts). Dan Balan Pictures

Hello Hekerui,

I uploaded a copyrighted picture recently and it was deleted. I am sorry for that. I didn't know Wikipedia had such strict rules. I thought who would find out. I got that picture from the artist's Google Plus Page. However, two photos which have been deleted were actually mine that I had taken at concerts. I have uploaded them again. Sorry for the issue. I promise, it won't happen again.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. In Round 1, there were 1322 candidate images. There are 56 finalists in Round 2, comprised of the top 30 overall as well as the top #1 and #2 from each sub-category. In the final round, you may vote for just one or maximal three image to become the Picture of the Year.

Hello! There is unfortunately no public detail, merely a private communication to me from the copyright holder (and through them, the subject). I believe this in accordance with good practice of respecting the wishes of copyright holders and and I certainly did not and would not make any change to a derivative work of a freely licensed work (none exist as far as I know on the Commons). Dear Hekerui, I´ve received a message informing that a photo I uploaded was missing evidence of permission and in the URL I published with the file ( www.coolhunting.pro ) appears clearly this text : puede publicarla en cualquier medio bajo licencia Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) Teo Massanet. In english means that the photo can be published in any media under Creative Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) Teo Massanet. I added the author information with the file uploaded and I do not understand why it appears marked as - This media file is missing evidence of permission. It may have an author and a source, but there is no proof that the author agreed to license the file under the given license.- On the webpage www.coolhunting.pro says clearly it can be used under CC BY 4.0 license. Is not enough evidence? What should I do then? How we will see unregistered users

Hi!

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.

If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.

We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. PS: Es ist jetzt nicht wichtig, aber als Admin hat man auch eine Vorbildfunktion.
