Good catch. I had misread my blurry photo of the painting's museum identification card. Postdlf (talk) 15:54, 15 July 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for your gif!
[edit]Hello!
My name is Laurie and I'm the Project Manager for na2ure, an NYC-based startup toy company. We featured this gif of yours (https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Eadweard_Muybridge,_Cockatoo_flying,_1887,_Collotype_process,_Animal_Locomotion_collection,_plate_758.gif) in our upcoming app, and wanted to thank you. Thank you!
na2ure is all about designing science play. We developed a game-changing platform called ferret that classifies ecological data into an intuitive network that can be easily learned through play. The high end value of our work attracted STEM>STEAM icon John Maeda, as well as the VCs behind LittleBits, Sphero, Makerbot, and Shapeways. The science has been vetted by MD's and PhD's, tested by kids, and praised by educators as appealing to all ages.
None of this would have been possible without your work. Thank you.
The app is available on the iOS platform and will be released to the public soon. Be sure to follow us on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/Anigramit) and Twitter (@anigramit) for a quick, easy way to share the news with your social media network - and to keep up to date on all the great stuff we’re doing.
Again, thank you! Laurie Vazquez Project Manager, na2ure manager@na2ure.com
Hi,
I am not sure of this edit: The file *was* published under CC-By, even though Commons asserts it is public domain per the PD-Art policy. This is the all point of the {{Licensed-PD-Art}} template.
Sincerely, Jean-Fred (talk) 17:48, 7 April 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks for pointing this out Jean-Frédéric. You may have a good point, though in actual fact, that version of the Delaunay image was upload by myself, i.e., it is not the Flickr image attributed to Sharon Mollerus. If you would like to revert my edit that's fine. By the way, I recently photographed the work at Pompidou, and will likely upload the new version soon. I will upload it separately from the actual version, and include it in Other version in a gallery section. So feel free to do what you think is correct. No problem. Coldcreation (talk) 19:25, 7 April 2014 (UTC)
- Oh I see, I assumed you had altered the colors from the Flickr version. Thanks for the explanation, it makes sense now. I will split the files then, keeping the old Flickr version under a new name, just in case. Uploading you own version sounds very good. Thanks for your answer! Jean-Fred (talk) 21:42, 7 April 2014 (UTC)
- Actually, on second thought, I think the version I upload was indeed the same as the original version with altered colors (the original was too dark compared to the actual painting). A new version is now available, with colors close to Delaunay's work, slightly less cropped, and without the reflection on the glass (upper center/right). Coldcreation 14:53, 9 April 2014 (UTC)

Copyright status: File:Robert Antoine Pinchon, photograph of the artist, circa 1925.jpg
[edit]This media may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading File:Robert Antoine Pinchon, photograph of the artist, circa 1925.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.
If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.) If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there. Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you. |
Ellin Beltz (talk) 23:45, 29 April 2014 (UTC)
- Thank you for pointing that out Ellin Beltz. I've changed the copyright tag to Anonymous-EU. This should resolve the problem. Coldcreation (talk) 07:27, 30 April 2014 (UTC)

Kees van Dongen
[edit]Why are you nominating 'La femme au jabot' by Kees van Dongen for deletion? It was published in a magazine before 1920 (namely in 1911). I've even added the link here in the description. Max Eisenhardt (talk) 19:46, 23 July 2017 (UTC)
- Max Eisenhardt, works by van Dongen will not be in the public domain until 2039. Only then can they be uploaded to Wikimedia Commons. Until then they can be uploaded to Wikipedia (En) wiki/Special:Upload, that is, if they had been published before 1923. That is where the file File:Kees van Dongen - Woman with Frill.jpg needs to be. This image is only public domain in the U.S. since it was published before 1923. Thanks. (This message was posted to your Talk Page days ago). Coldcreation (talk) 02:10, 25 July 2017 (UTC)

Spanish regulations
[edit]I made the photographs during my stay in Barcelona to enhance some of the articles about specific artists on the en.wiki. I wasn't aware of specific Spanish regulations regarding usage of these files on Wikipedia. I thought the common EU regulation applies in Spain as well (if you have the consent to shoot on a private domain, you can use the images - for public domains you don't need any consent). For example in Madrid, at The Prado museum, I was informed it isn't allowed to take any pictures at all. But in Barcelona, there was no issue at all. And, as far as I know from my photographer's experience, as long as I make the photographs they are mine, to some extent, if I got the approval to take them (and I did for these, not written, but verbally, since the fundation/museum staff allowed me to get in with my camera and saw me shooting, plus I specifically asked if I am allowed to take photos - no, I didn't tell that I might upload a part of them on Wikipedia to share knowledge). Anyway, I suppose there isn't any way to upload them and use them only on en.wiki, right? By the way, File:Joan Miró, "Personatge", Fundació Joan Miró, Barcelona, Spain.jpg is a sculpture which is not inside the Juan Miro institution, but outside of it (in front of it). For now, I'll remove the images from the articles to avoid any disruption 'till further clarification. May I have a link to the specific Spanish law regarding the usage of photographs made in Spain, I'm really eager to take a look at least to know in the future. Thanks! Robertgombos (talk) 11:23, 30 May 2018 (UTC)
- Robertgombos: As a general rule, and by law, works by Joan Miró (or Antoni Tàpies) will not be in the public domain in Spain (i.e., worldwide) until 1 January 2054 (Tàpies 2083) and should not be uploaded to Wikimedia Commons until that date. The exception is for works (e.g., 2D and 3D artworks) located in public parks, streets, squares or other public places. The grounds of the Miró Foundation is private. See more here: Freedom of panorama in Spain. Coldcreation (talk) 12:06, 30 May 2018 (UTC)
- OK, great. Thanks for the heads-up. The images were removed from the article. Robertgombos (talk) 12:08, 30 May 2018 (UTC)
Matisse's works
[edit]hello, you said "This work of art is copyrighted in its source country until after 1 January 2025. The artist died 3 November 1954", So are these files of Matisse's works copyrighted and should be deleted? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_works_by_Henri_Matisse -Uvo (talk) 17:52, 12 July 2018 (UTC)
- Uvo The difference is that those works by Matisse were upload to Wikipedia (not Wikimedia Commons) because they were published prior to 1923. Generally speaking, for images to be uploaded to Commons they have to be public domain worldwide. Coldcreation (talk) 01:32, 13 July 2018 (UTC)

Important message for file movers
[edit]A community discussion has been closed where the consensus was to grant all file movers the suppressredirect
user right. This will allow file movers to not leave behind a redirect when moving files and instead automatically have the original file name deleted. Policy never requires you to suppress the redirect, suppression of redirects is entirely optional.
Possible acceptable uses of this ability:
- To move recently uploaded files with an obvious error in the file name where that error would not be a reasonable redirect. For example: moving "Sheep in a tree.jpg" to "Squirrel in a tree.jpg" when the image does in fact depict a squirrel.
- To perform file name swaps.
- When the original file name contains vandalism. (File renaming criterion #5)
Please note, this ability should be used only in certain circumstances and only if you are absolutely sure that it is not going to break the display of the file on any project. Redirects should never be suppressed if the file is in use on any project. When in doubt, leave a redirect. If you forget to suppress the redirect in case of file name vandalism or you are not fully certain if the original file name is actually vandalism, leave a redirect and tag the redirect for speedy deletion per G2.
The malicious or reckless breaking of file links via the suppressredirect
user right is considered an abuse of the file mover right and is grounds for immediate revocation of that right. This message serves as both a notice that you have this right and as an official warning. Questions regarding this right should be directed to administrators. --Majora (talk) 21:35, 7 November 2019 (UTC)

Hello,
I'm a french psychiatrist writing an educational book about mental diseases. I will be happy to use your picture of "the cry" by Edvard Munch to illustrate the book. Due to the french law on copyrights, i need your agreement, even if the picture is posted on wikicommons. would you agree for it ? Thanks for uploading File:Albert Gleizes, 1912, Les Baigneuses, oil on canvas, 105 x 171 cm, Paris, Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris (black and white).jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.
Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own). The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded ([[:File:Albert Gleizes, 1912, Les Baigneuses, oil on canvas, 105 x 171 cm, Paris, Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris (black and white).jpg]] ) and the above demanded information in your request. |
