[edit]Hoax nonsense - 1) No such person as "Lord Mäerzenfeld" (verily, "Lord Mäerzenfeld" is the same person as "Freddy De Marchena", for whom a sock has been trying to create a hoax pedigree); 2) as previously, uploader is a sock of Talon Briceington, which has also been uploading hoax content; 3) Even if Mäerzenfeld were real, uploader (Brenna Kaufmann) ≠ purported author (Lord Mäerzenfeld), thus derivative scans of obvious contemporary works would require evidence of Mäerzenfeld permission; and 4) images have markedly different signatures (e.g., compare File:“Giturre“ by Lord Mäerzenfeld.png and File:“Elibela“ by Lord Mäerzenfeld.png (similar visual style may suggest AI generation). PRP issue.

Test case as it seems borderline between architectural art and ordinary structure. To note there is no freedom of panorama in the Philippines. It was erected in 1979, so post 1972. According to this site (with some important emphases):
Salakot Arch is a landmark of Angeles. From 1902 to 1979, Clark Air Base remained a U.S. territory, guaranteed by the Military Bases Agreement in 1947. In 1978, the Philippines, under the dispensation of the former President Ferdinand Marcos, and the U.S. finally agreed to establish Philippine sovereignty over the U.S. bases and thus the Clark Air Base Command (CABCOM) of the Armed Forces of the Philippines came into being, following the signing of a revised Military Bases Agreement on January 7, 1979. To commemorate this unprecedented and bold event, the government constructed a special structure based upon the design of a salakot or native hat, which soon became a widely recognized symbol of this renewed Filipino spirit.

- The screens are showing videos and even the noise one is effectively a still from a copyright video. It is no different to taking a still from a copyright video on YouTube. Contrary to popular belief, those screens are not showing raw video feeds from a static camera. There is someone in a control room, making creative choices about what gets shown on the screens. Works by Petre Antonescu
[edit]The architect Petre Antonescu died in 1965. At the time of his death the copyright term in Romania was 50 years pma, and during this term a copyright extension to 70 years was introduced in 1996. Therefore his works are still copyrighted and non-free until 2035 2036 ("...shall be calculated from the first of January of the year following the author’s death" [1]). There is no real freedom of panorama in Romania either, since images of architecture may only be published for non-commercial purposes, so we can't use these photos.

- The inscription on the arch is barely readable even at full zoom because of the wires and trees. For me, the thing that the photographer wanted to catch is the street. Why? Because of the name, as well as the presence of all the important monuments that are in the axis if the street: the arch and Casa Scânteii. It is a great illustration for an article about Bd. In most countries, all paintings, sculpture, architecture, text, and other creative works have copyrights which last for 70 years after the death of the creator. An image of a work that is still under copyright is a derivative work, and infringes on the copyright so that we cannot usually keep the image on Commons. In some countries, there is a special exception to the copyright law which allows such images under certain circumstances. We call that exception freedom of panorama (FOP). Unfortunately there is no applicable FOP exception in France.

- On closer inspection, there doesn't seem to be an overlap of the cameras timewise. All photos that were taken with a Redmi Note 5 were taken before 2023 (with one exception in the first half of 2023). The majority of the photos appear to come from the Redmi Note 5. For photos taken in 2023, Vivo V2253 was used. And photos in 2024 were taken with Vivo T2x 5G. If the camera usage was all over the place, it would be very suspicious, but here it looks like someone used a Redmi from 2020 to 2022 (or roughly 2023), then the model V2253 in 2023, and then switched to T2x 5G in 2024 (or late 2023). Redmi Note is not an expensive brand, if I'm not mistaken (~100-200€). I don't know about the other brand, but it might be in the same range, so could be possible that they just switched phones.

This happens almost every day if you check the upload log. We have new and inexperienced users that are not familiar with the scalability of SVG, and they often take a file which is already in vector format, reduce its image size, and upload it in GIF/JPEG/PNG format for use on the projects, because they don't know that you can set the image size of the vector file by using "XXpx" So what you're saying is we should just have hundreds of these little duplicates laying around, rather than teaching these users how to use the vector file and scale its size down to their preference? I have replaced it with the SVG and set an image size parameter of 250px. This is the only circumstance in which I nominate such files for deletion as duplicates. I do not do so where the raster file was uploaded first or at the same time, only when it has been uploaded long after a vector file has been here and no alterations to the image such as colour or shape have been made. Fry1989 asked me to take a look at this DR and comment. I think he has a point with his arguments. Yes, the PNG file is by definition not a duplicate of the SVG file, but it may still be redundant.
I often keep raster files which were nominated for deletion in favor of an SVG file, usually with a rationale like We don't delete raster files just because there's now also a vector version available. IIRC these rules were originally agreed upon mainly because of coats of arms, which in the beginning were uploaded here as raster files only. Then SVG files started to appear. Users would create SVG coats of arms and then proceed to nominate all other formats for deletion because they thought that the new, in their view superior SVG version would suffice. There were a lot of problems with this approach, and many of these early SVG CoAs were severely lacking in quality or quite different from the raster versions. So many other users opposed these deletions, and the rules about different file formats not being duplicates were made. In those cases, I almost always keep the raster files, also when it's about logos or similar.
There are other cases though in which I delete them. Cases like this one: the raster file is not independent from the SVG file and does not predate it, but is instead a direct derivative of the SVG file, produced by saving the PNG version shown by the MediaWiki software in your browser to disk and then reuploading it. Compare [5] and [6] side by side, and you will see immediately that this is what happened here. Such files are redundant, we don't need to have them as separate files because MediaWiki can quickly produce them in almost any desired image size/resolution. So my approach would be to

Just because this was published by the US government, doesn't mean it was made by the US Government. It has to be made by the US Government to be public domain. I highly doubt that the US Government would send a photographer to photograph Ross Ulbricht, who was a wanted criminal, to take a photo in front of some grass scenery. - @Kashmiri: I know my file isn't flawless, but I'm not sure why you say the shape is so unusual as to warrant deletion. The curves not being perfectly smooth surely isn't reason enough. Is there are glaring error I overlooked?
- The .svg is still in use and the file information links back to the file from which is was derived. I would rather keep the .png until the .svg is no longer needed. I would be fine with deleting both the .png and .svg if a better replacement is made, otherwise I think keeping the imperfect file is better than nothing unless these files are so erroneous as to be misleading. - The painting in the back is ‘Venice’ Aleksandra Ekster (Q242121): Ukrainian and French painter and designer (1882–1949) from 1918. I'm better at finding paintings than sculptures. [edit]Per The Artchive: https://www.artchive.com/artwork/draped-reclining-figure-1952-53-by-henry-moore/, this work was cast in an edition of four in the UK. That would make it a British work, and since Moore died in 1986, it would still be under copyright until 2057 (URAA restored copyright would expire in 2047 since it was published in 1951). There's no FOP for sculpture in the United States, which is definitely frustrating because the British versions and the version at a museum in Cologne (which is outdoors) would both be covered by their countrys FOP. So regretfully I file this DR.
