Re:Deletion Review
[edit]Am presently trying to find out if the photo was published in Life--going through Google Books. Life was very pro-active about renewing its back issue copyrights. Think I've only seen one issue that slipped through "the cracks" as far as renewal goes and the issue in question was June 19, 1944. A few days ago, I'd advised the person about Life issues being regularly renewed. Let me give finding the photo in Life a try and then I'll comment at the DR page. [edit]This media may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading File:Mt. Holly Plantation house, built in 1840, still occupied. Near Foote, Mississippi.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.
If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.) If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there. Re: Photo location
[edit]Hello. I didn't tag the location on File:Markham-suburbs aerial-edit2.jpg, user:Lycaon did it in this edit. I don't know from where he took the coordinates. Sorry for *not* (edit) being of better help. Sting (talk) 15:22, 28 May 2015 (UTC)
- Hello. As indicated in the "Source" section of the image, File:Markham-suburbs_aerial-edit2.jpg is an edited version (sharpness, contrast and saturation) of the original photograph File:Markham-suburbs_id.jpg taken by IDuke. He is the contributor you have to contact to get further information about the location. Unfortunately he seems to be inactive for a while... and user:Lycaon (the one who added the location) who is now User:Biopics has been permanently blocked one month ago!
- It looks like you're on your own on this one to find the exact location because I only made the post-processing on the image and don't have more information that the one given by the original photograph (which btw has no location details). Good luck. Sting (talk) 14:21, 31 May 2015 (UTC)

[edit]Hi there. I missed the deletion discussion regarding https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Deletion_requests/File:Luminaries_of_Pantheism_Venice_Mural.jpg. I hold the copyright for both the image and the mural. What should I do? Thanks. NaturaNaturans (talk)
To clarify, I hold the copyright/license to the artwork. Please advise on how we should proceed. NaturaNaturans (talk)
- There is a way to send confirmation of the copyright. I'm not sure how to do it. Leave a message at the Village Pump. You should get an answer. Magnolia677 (talk) 23:52, 16 November 2015 (UTC)
Re:Copyright
[edit]If you noticied, the file is licensed as {{PD-USGov}}, and as a arrest photograph, the primary source is very likely to be the US Federal Government, therefore, no copyvio. If the work is not from the US Federal Government (like a State entity), it may be discussed via a normal DR, but a copyvio tag is totally inapropiate. --Amitie 10g (talk) 23:58, 20 December 2015 (UTC)

[edit]Hello Magnolia677, some hours ago you reported several of my files for copyright violation. I am not sure why they would violate copyright, since most of them consist only of letters (e.g. The Wall Street Journal, The Denver Post, The News Journal) or have been in use for a very long time (Tampa Bay Times, Newsday, The San Diego Union-Tribune, Honolulu Star Advertiser). Did I upload it in the wrong format? I hope you can explain it to me. Thanks. --Adrio (talk) 08:28, 16 October 2016 (UTC) Adrio (talk) 08:28, 16 October 2016 (UTC)

Why are you requesting a deletion of picture of mural in public space?
[edit]What's the reason you are requesting to delete this picture? The picture is in a location called Wynwood Walls in Miami, and people are encouraged to visit and take pictures. Have you been there? Did you take a good look at the picture? There are trees and soil, the picture is placed side up so you can visualize it better without having to turn your head. Why are you requesting a deletion of picture of Trethevy Mill Rocky Valley.jpg?
[edit]I was on holiday in Cornwall and we stayed in Port Isaac. We were visiting Tintagel and Boscastle and we stopped for a walk in Rocky Valley. I took the shot from the bridge where the footpath crosses the river after the mill. I have a dozen or so pictures to corrobrate this walk. The picture was taken with my Sony RX 100 Mark III on Friday Oct 5th 2018. The bridge is an obvious point for a good shot and just because we had the same motive does not mean it is fraus. I work in regulatory affairs and I am actually quite offended by this. Kmtextor (talk) 18:34, 15 February 2020 (UTC)
How to change / make new image of OpenStreetMap (neighborhood boundary)?
[edit]Hello Magnolia,
Can you refer me to anything on how to change or make a new image for OpenStreetMap in order to adjust the neighborhood boundary shown? This is related to the Washington Heights image because the reason I did that is that I was trying to fix the OpenStreetMap image that is there (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Washington_Heights,_Manhattan). It does not reflect what is generally considered to be the neighborhood nor what is said in the article itself. So I am trying to figure out how to edit the OpenStreetMap boundary.
Thanks so much!

File:Old bicycleML.jpg Hi you idiot, that is photo taken by myself. Even images of myself on RGB stock and here on Commons are the same, as well as my username Macieklew. I am the author of this photo. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Macieklew (talk • contribs) 22:27, 11 July 2020 (UTC)

[edit]Copyright status: File:Loafers Glory, North Carolina.jpg
This media may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading File:Loafers Glory, North Carolina.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.
If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you. |

File:Edmund L Gettier III ca 1960s umass v2.jpg has been marked as a possible copyright violation
[edit]The website https://1000wordphilosophy.com/2014/04/10/the-gettier-problem/ is using the original Family picture I published on 14 April 2021 File:https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Edmund_L_Gettier_III_ca_1960s_umass.jpg. The updated picture https:File://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Edmund_L_Gettier_III_ca_1960s_umass_v2.jpg published 16 April 2021 is an improved version of the that family photo without the imperfection. Both copies are family photos and owned and published myself. It is not clear to me how to proceed. Can you advise? Please note, the family has been working with websites to correct an inaccuracy. The following website has a picture which scattered around the internet, that is inaccurate and not my father: https://thesymposiummagazinedotcom.files.wordpress.com/2016/02/26369_edmund_gettier.jpg. That 1000wordphilospophy just updated the picture to the one I posted on Wikipedia 14 April 2021. Using the waybackmachine.com and going to November 28,2020 on the https://1000wordphilosophy.com/2014/04/10/the-gettier-problem/ site (e.g. https://web.archive.org/web/20201128172141/https://1000wordphilosophy.com/2014/04/10/the-gettier-problem/), you can inspect the code (F12 on most browsers) and validate the actual picture they used on 11/28/2020 was https://1000wordphilosophy.files.wordpress.com/2014/04/edmund-gettier.jpg, which incorrect nor the one I published 14 April. They updated this picture with the one I posted on Wiki originally at my request. Again, it is not clear to me how to proceed. Can you advise? DaveGettier (talk) 14:30, 17 April 2021 (UTC)
- You may want to ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright. Magnolia677 (talk) 14:35, 17 April 2021 (UTC)
- Thankyou I posted there. That picture has been in my family for over 50 years. I do hope we can rectify this issue. DaveGettier (talk) 18:44, 17 April 2021 (UTC)

[edit]Re:File:Jimmy Smith 1960.jpeg
[edit]The image you flagged for deletion is in the public domain. The newspaper was published by the United States Army and is therefore in the public domain. Furthermore, on page two it specifically notes that the Star Presidian uses non-copyright material and permits its reissue. —Halvorsen brian (talk) 10:47, 20 June 2021 (UTC)

Just an FYI on reverting my edit on File:Kansas Governor Sam Brownback (left) and U.S. Secretary of Education --Arne Duncan observe a mural at the Kansas State Capitol in 2012.jpg. I removed Category:Flags of the Confederate States in art from that image because I added a new category, Category:Tragic Prelude. That's the title of the mural that Brownback and Duncan are looking at. Flags of the Confederate States in Art is one of the mural's categories. — WFinch (talk) 21:00, 13 September 2022 (UTC)
- @WFinch: What a silly error. My apology! Magnolia677 (talk) 21:44, 13 September 2022 (UTC)

Copyright of Federal Government Tweets
[edit]Hello @Magnolia677, I would highly appreciate if we could first discuss the copyright status of tweets from the federal government before going through every photo and saying it is a copyright violation. This is in relation to the photos for Tony Yarber, and now Derrick Simmons and Carolyn Crawford.
These images are productions by the federal government, publicized by them. Even if on Twitter or some other social media site, the user would own the rights. The user is the federal government. Unless you have evidence to suggest otherwise that this goes against copyright protection, I fail to understand how these go against copyright law.
Thanks. PoliticsIsExciting (talk) 22:10, 1 December 2024 (UTC)
- @PoliticsIsExciting: I identified it as a copyright violation, and an administrator likely agreed and deleted the image. You may want to message the administrator who made that call. Magnolia677 (talk) 22:18, 1 December 2024 (UTC)
- @Magnolia677 I will message them. If you could be kind enough to hold off for a day or two on other images, that would be highly appreciated. If the administrator agrees, then fair enough. PoliticsIsExciting (talk) 22:28, 1 December 2024 (UTC)
