- Keep. Per COM:SCOPE the file needs to meet the following; 1. Must be a media file, 2. Must be of an allowable free file format, 3. Must be freely licensed or public domain, 4. Must be realistically useful for an educational purpose, and 5 Must not contain only excluded educational content, content better suited to Wikipedia for example.
- Going through that list of requirements, the nominated item is a media file that is in an allowable format. It is in the public domain. It is of realistically useful educational purpose it is being used for realistically useful for an educational purpose because it is being used consistent with COM:INUSE. This file was initially tagged by H-stt as Copyvio (copyvio) and the most recent rationale was: drawing is a derivate of a famous photograph by en:Annie Leibovitz, as shown here.
Converted to regular DR to allow for discussion because of the fundamental importance of the case. -- Túrelio (talk) 16:14, 28 September 2021 (UTC)
- The original photograph is certainly the most iconic image of Louise Bourgeois. It was taken by Annie Leibovitz for her book "Women" which combined images by her with essays by en:Susan Sonntag. "Our" drawing is obviously derivative of this famous photograph and thus sadly a copyvio. The drawing was published by a Arturo Espinosa from Spain on Flickr under a free license and transferred to commons without regard to the history of the depicted image. Yes, Arturo's drawing style is distinct and has its own strong expression. But no, it still is a derivate and therefore a copyvio. --h-stt !? 16:29, 28 September 2021 (UTC)

- Yes, I reuploaded it. Asa took this photo for me in 2014, but I own it for any use so I could upload it to Flickr, under CC-BY-2.0. This photo was on my article for several years, until less than a month ago when it was noticed that the license on Flickr was accidentally changed from CC-BY-2.0. As you can see from the Flickr source link https://www.flickr.com/photos/jurvetson/14711700622/ now that I've fixed the license back to CC-BY-2.0 there should be no issue having this image on Wikipedia. I have hundreds of images from my Flickr on Wikipedia under this license: https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?search=Jurvetson&title=Special:Search Jurvetson (talk) 20:19, 17 April 2018 (UTC)

Flickr account no longer allows commercial or derivative reuse, and hasn't since around July 2018. Reference discussion at Commons:Deletion requests/Files in Category:Inspirati4n and my note at Template talk:Cc-zero-SpaceX. Per our precautionary principle, since SpaceX has refused to reply to queries about the situation, it is questionable whether photos from the SpaceX Flickr page posted after July 2018 are permissible on Commons. — Huntster (t @ c) 20:41, 28 September 2021 (UTC)
- FlickreviewR review the image at the moment of the upload and confirmed that they were under cc-zero. CC licenses are non revocable so the image still is in cc-zero despite that SpaceX changed the license on Flickr, whether they like it or not.--BugWarp (talk) 20:58, 28 September 2021 (UTC)

The image is original research, which includes the lengthy summary on the page. It is not a depiction of multiple rail track gauges actually used in an operating railway in Afghanistan or anywhere else. I sought advice from a colleague who is a railway civil engineer, who said that four gauges were only seen in factories where rolling stock was built to a variety of gauges -- not on operating railways, where 3 gauges historically had been the maximum. He stated that it appeared to be a theoretical concept (shown by the rail on the far left and "G0 ... too small") about how many rails would be needed to be placed for four gauges. Some editors have asked the originator to avoid speculation -- see for example w:Talk:Rail transport in Afghanistan but there was no response. Likewise there has been no response to my notification on the Talk page 3 weeks ago that I would be recommending deletion. SCHolar44 (talk) 00:46, 29 September 2021 (UTC)

- The Google search matches are only significant when they predate the upload of this file to Commons in 2015. TinEye shows several that do, including a blog posting dated 2011.[66] Because of this we probably need license validation by the Volunteer Response Team. The image was used in a 2019 album cover,[67] but this is not conclusive because the album post-dates the upload here and the photo is not attributed on the album cover. This file should be deleted because this map showns false boundaries, namely, the border of the Teutonic Order is shown in this map as pretty much identical to the East Prussian region (which it wasn't) and also forgets the Livonian Order. Finally, the map has a historically inaccurate label, namely "Russo-Lithuanian State". No serious scholars refer to the Lithuanian state in such a manner. This obviously is a copyrighted work without valid free license. Serge Obolensky was born in 1890 and died in 1978. While Pierre Bregy was born in 1898 (source of his birth year), so he is even younger. It is not supported by any source that 70 years had already passed since Pierre Bregy's death. Uploader of this file clearly picked a random license template without providing any evidence that it is valid for this file. Anyway, I think it is safe to assume that both Serge Obolensky and Pierre Bregy have equal copyrights to this file/book. Since one of the authors (Serge Obolensky) of this file/book died only 43 years ago, the {{PD-old}} license tag will be valid for this file only after 27 years (so in 2048). -- Pofka (talk) 18:25, 6 October 2021 (UTC)

If the author is known, we need to know when he died. Yann (talk) 18:10, 18 October 2021 (UTC)
- @Yann Considering the co-author who was born eight years before Pierre Brégy still lived to 1978, it is safe to assume that he lived to a similar time. I have found a person named Pierre, who was born in Brégy exactly in 1898 and who died in 1979, and considering that his birth place was just below 600 people, it is a pretty certain guess, that this is indeed the person concerned. So, 70 years have definitely NOT passed since the death date of whichever author.--Cukrakalnis (talk) 19:12, 18 October 2021 (UTC)
- That's a different person. Brégy here is the name of a town, not a family name. BTW where did you find the authors' birthdate? Yann (talk) 19:15, 18 October 2021 (UTC)
- @Yann I found the birthdate of Pierre Brégy here and Serge Obolensky here. The problem with Pierre Brégy is that him being an obscure author means that not a lot is known about him. My rationale for picking this as a possible person, is because there is a possibility that Pierre Brégy was an alias (1st name and birthdate is the same, but the 2nd name he changed into his birthplace village). Unfortunately, this is speculation, but it is the best available suggestion there is on the material available online.--Cukrakalnis (talk) 19:26, 18 October 2021 (UTC)

- Wow, what a find! I have no clue how you even came about that. My speculation is definitely brushed aside considering the findings you presented, although I was right about this being an alias. It definitely mentions all of the books that are ascribed to this person, so it is without a doubt him. But even then, considering there were two authors of the book, and one of them died in the late 1970s or 1990s, doesn't this still raise issues?--Cukrakalnis (talk) 22:29, 18 October 2021 (UTC)
- In a book about history, you cannot assume that the author of the book is the author of the maps ; even less that the authors of the books are both the authors of the maps...
- the author of the map could be (and probably is) a third person, about whom we have no information at all, except, perhaps, the cyrillic initials that can be read in the bottom right "ΔΛ" (DL)... 4 of the 5 maps in this book have this same signature...
- however, I agree that it cannot reasoneably be assumed that a page of a book published in 1939 is in the Public Domain according to the 70 years post death rule, unless it is provable that the author died during war, or shortly after... --Hsarrazin (talk) 07:07, 19 October 2021 (UTC)
- Keep The initials can also be read as cyrillic "АЛ" (AL), but they do not fit the two known authors of the book anyway. Consequently, the maps signed with these initials can be considered as works of an unknown author, passed into the public domain 70 years after publication.--Yellow Horror (talk) 08:36, 10 November 2021 (UTC)

The coat of arms is for an Italian family and is dated 1913. All the files of this category should be deleted, for the following rationale:
Due to a mistake while using Lingua Libre, all these files are named with the wrong language code and Qid (they are not in fra but in shu (Q56497)). The speaker recorded all these pronunciation afterwards with Lingua Libre, which means that the names are already taken, and these files are "duplicates" with the new ones.

Dubious licensing as it's quite unlikely that the uploader (who claims this as own work) has any ownership of this image. The lack of a source URL in this case may have been an attempt to conceal how it's the property of someone else. SNUGGUMS (talk) 03:41, 28 September 2021 (UTC)
- Keep Everyone loading an image as a noob makes the same mistakes and makes themselves the author, so we fix them, and don't assume nefarious reasons. Even if unpublished it would be PD. --RAN (talk) 05:27, 29 September 2021 (UTC)

Was tagged by Bluemask as "missing permission" as it bears the photographer credit "Carlito Scholz", during the time it was titled "File:Rizal Monument.jpg" (different from the current decent image by TheCoffee). A look on its history indicates it was transferred from enwiki, and on the file logs there it reveals that it was uploaded by Yournecs (probably Yournecs~commonswiki (talk · contribs), but it was soon deleted there because of the same deletion reason (no permission). The photo is likely not Lejanomd (talk · contribs)'s self-photographed image. Too small resolution and no metadata. Furthermore, the old version of the image shows a white letterbox running across the bottom, indicating this must have come from somewhere else. This is the only contribution of the uploader. L'artiste dont c'est le portrait, Baptiste-Florian MARLE-OUVRARD, demande la suppression de cette image. 2A01:CB18:81DB:E800:811C:ECE3:75D1:E0E9 14:29, 28 September 2021 (UTC)
- I don’t know why Mr. Marle-Ouvrard requests that this photo be deleted. I took it on July 22, 2012, just after his organ recital at Cucuron. I asked him to pose for me, which he willingly did. I do not remember for certain if I asked him if I intended it for his Wikipedia page. Likely I did, for I knew at the time that the German Wikipedia, unlike the French one, had an article on him. I uploaded my picture on the Commons on July 23, 2012, and used it in the German Wikipedia on the same day. It is still there. Until today I did not know there is now a page on him in the French Wikipedia. I see it was created on April 5, 2015, by "Manastirile", who used my picture. (Strictly speaking, "Manastirile" created this French Wikipedia article in four steps, from 15:31 till 15:41 and the picture in his third step, at 15:36.) My picture stayed in the French Wikipedia article until September 24, 2021, when "Phponcon" (doubtless Mr. Philippe Ponçon) replaced it by a more recent (December 24, 2016) VeraUndritzPhotography one from Mr. Marle-Ouvrard’s personal collection, justifying this replacement by writing "modification [sic, Polla ta deina] de la photo de Baptiste-Florian MARLE-OUVRARD, avec son accord". — Conclusion: The presence of my photo on WikimediaCommons is legitimate. It was taken with Mr. Marle-Ouvrard's explicit permission on the occasion of a public performance. There cannot be a problem of privacy. Apart from Mr. Marle-Ouvrard's preference for another picture in the French Wikipedia article on him, there seems to be no reason to delete my picture of Mr. Marle-Ouvrard from the Commons. - I propose to nuke all pictures of buildings in Indonesia, until each uploader of said subject can proof that they have read our Commons:Licensing and provides the exact building completion date, the name and date of death of their architects, before they upload; and fully understand the copyright crime they committed if they didn't do so. Bennylin (yes?) 13:04, 23 February 2021 (UTC)
- Also this. Why does this even need to be discussed again and again and again and again and again? Just get done with them already. Bennylin (yes?)
- @Bennylin: perhaps these uploaders thought Commons can host educational-only content. Well that doesn't comply with COM:L#Acceptable licenses. Fortunately this is a building, and half (not all) can be moved to enwiki under restricted tag FoP-USonly. Not all because enwiki is not supposed to imitate Commons as it is not a repository in the first place (the reason why it has only three or four Burj Khalifa images). But recourse to enwiki is not indefinite: enwiki disallows images of copyrighted sculptures unless a few of them shall be uploaded and complying with enwiki's fair use guidelines. For these files, Delete all (except 2 images) as forum now archived at Commons:Village pump/Copyright/Archive/2021/01#Commons:Deletion requests/Files in Category:An-Nur Great Mosque should be focused by professors in this grey area. Consensus remains: no Commons-acceptable or commercial FOP in Indonesia. JWilz12345 (Talk|Contrib's.) 18:08, 19 March 2021 (UTC)
- The two images are File:Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi visits the Istiqlal Masjid in Jakarta (1).jpg and File:Touring the Istiqlal Mosque in Jakarta, Indonesia, with the First Lady and Grand Imam Ali Mustafa Yaqub, November 10, 2010.jpg, which may be COM:De minimis. But File:Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi visits the Istiqlal Masjid in Jakarta (1).jpg may need to be cropped so that most of the upper half of the mosque will be gone for good, to focus more on the people. The new question: is the cropped image removing a copyrighted building still useful or not? JWilz12345 (Talk|Contrib's.) 02:48, 22 April 2021 (UTC)
- @JWilz12345: If buildings are off-limit, how about people like here: File:Touring the Istiqlal Mosque in Jakarta, Indonesia, with the First Lady and Grand Imam Ali Mustafa Yaqub, November 10, 2010.jpg? --Taterian (talk) 02:14, 22 April 2021 (UTC)
- @Taterian: taking photos and publishing them under commercial licensing is different from touring by dignitaries. Both are different things. And the main aim of the image is the persons depicted, not the building which is not the main focus (plus the façade is not wholly shown). JWilz12345 (Talk|Contrib's.) 02:43, 22 April 2021 (UTC)
- @JWilz12345: Thank you for your note. Does it mean that the image in question stays, or I need to remove background completely? --Taterian (talk) 04:38, 22 April 2021 (UTC)
- @Taterian: the image is fine for me. The focus is on the people and not the mosque which is now in the background. However, since I noticed a while ago that this is a cropped version, the previous versions must be revision deleted (revdel), while leaving the current cropped version intact. [edit]More files in Category:Istiqlal Mosque
[edit]Incomplete list and deletion. Please finish what you've started. We shall not stop the purge until there's no more Istiqlal images in Commons. And I hope we have some capable admin that will delete these files as soon as possible, not waiting 6 months like the request above. Bennylin (yes?) 12:29, 26 September 2021 (UTC)
- Are you really deleting an entire category of files? You should probbaly review the files more carefully then. For example, the reasoning you gave for the mass deletions was that "there is no freedom of panorama in Indonesia". Which is true. However, I'd argue that a lot of the files aren't panorama's. For example, File:Mihrab of Istiqlal Mosque, Jakarta Indonesia.jpg doesn't show a panorama, this includes other files such as File:Wudu Istiqlal Mosque.JPG and File:Istiqlal Mosque Wudhu (Ablution).JPG. Cheers, The man from Gianyar (talk) 14:01, 22 November 2021 (UTC)

@Bennylin: are you trying to make a point here? I clicked some of the images and none of them contain a deletion template and quite a few of them don't even include the mosque. In the current state this whole section should just be closed. Multichill (talk) 20:00, 28 September 2021 (UTC)
- Just in the nick of time. I've only recently know about VisualFileChange to make a mass deletion request. Please check the files again. Thanks. Bennylin (yes?) 20:08, 28 September 2021 (UTC)
- @Bennylin: before this you were just being pointy, but just tagging blanketly all the images in a category for deletion without checking is clearly disruptive. Multichill (talk) 20:15, 28 September 2021 (UTC)
- @Bennylin: Please review the files more carefully. Files like File:Istiqlal Mosque Reciting Al Quran.JPG should be OK. The subject here is the people, not the architecture. Thanks, Yann (talk) 20:17, 28 September 2021 (UTC)
- I think we in Commons should rather err on the side of deletion. I'm just nominating files on the category, with the same deletion criteria as per nom. You may vote to keep, crop, or other things for the files you think should stay, but for every files with potential of breaking the law, there should be at least someone who would vote/vouch for it to be kept. Shouldn't the admin act more promptly on these matter? You pick one or two examples, but there are dozens on my list that are clearly infringing the rights of the architect. I don't know what to make of your hesitation. Bennylin (yes?) 09:11, 29 September 2021 (UTC)
- We got a notice at Wikivoyage that File:WV banner Indonesian phrasebook - Mosque.jpg had been nominated for deletion. I don't see it anywhere on this page. If it's not nominated for deletion, revert the deletion notice from its page. If it is nominated for deletion, you had better state that plainly and give us time to upload it locally, but the focus of that banner is the people within the space, not really the architecture except to provide a sense of place and an appropriate setting for a phrasebook (not actually currently the Indonesian phrasebook but the Sundanese phrasebook). It's a little irritating to have Wikivoyage pagebanners nominated for deletion just because they're in some category or other, but if you all really decide to delete this pagebanner, we'll host it locally. -- Ikan Kekek (talk) 21:49, 28 September 2021 (UTC)

- If the claim is that the architectural design of the mosque is protected by copyright, then the infringing image would have to at least show that. Many of these (look at File:Secretary Kerry Applauded After Banging Gong at Istiqlal Mosque (12555507775).jpg, File:Secretary Kerry Bids Farewell to Female Students at Istiqlal Mosque (12555993344).jpg) are clearly de minimis and don't show anything of the architectural design.
- Then images such as File:COLLECTIE TROPENMUSEUM Het hoofdpostkantoor met op de achtergrond de Istiqlal moskee in aanbouw TMnr 20018028.jpg might record the construction of the mosque, but again they don't infringe upon the design. Andy Dingley (talk) 21:57, 8 October 2021 (UTC)
Keep everything that isn’t solely of the building itself (i.e. everything where there are people or other buildings prominently featured). Indiscriminate bad faith nomination. The quality images should be transferred to Wikipedia so they can still be used. Stop wasting people’s time. Dronebogus (talk) 12:47, 23 January 2022 (UTC)

Copyright violation of the depicted sculpture. In the Indonesian embassy in Washington DC, unclear which law applies, but there is no applicable freedom of panorama in either jurisdiction, see COM:FOP Indonesia and COM:FOP US. Verbcatcher (talk) 22:12, 28 September 2021 (UTC)

- Whoops, I guess you're right. Delete as necessary, no argument from me, but a hearty middle finger to the insane copyright laws of both nations. —diff (talk) 22:37, 28 September 2021 (UTC)

This file was Kamon's previous Kamon, which symbolized Matsuda of the Matsuda family, and this file is a Kamon that no longer exists when it is not used. Gameposo (talk) 11:37, 28 September 2021 (UTC)

This file is not Gamon. The basic colors are black and white. But this gamon doesn't exist and this file doesn't symbolize anything. It is a file that is considered to be deleted and is confirmed as a PD's own file. I request to delete the file. The color should be black and white. Gameposo (talk) 11:55, 28 September 2021 (UTC)
Kept: No reason for deletion of this file. According to the Deletion policy a supposedly incorrect, original researched or not-neutral file is not a reason for deletion. This aspect should be addressed on the projects. The file is currently in use on the projects, so it has to be maintained. --Ellywa (talk) 20:51, 6 April 2022 (UTC)
