- @YamahaFreak~commonswiki: Copyright is not common sense or fair; according to it, you can make photos (as little as the legislators agreed) — Commons:Fair use — but Wikimedia takes it even further, so it is harder to violate copyright by reusing files from Commons: Commons:Derivative works. You can try getting the author to send a permission to Commons:OTRS though, but such a permission could theoretically mean allowing to reverse-engineer the inflatable from the picture, but I am not sure (and it wouldn't be easy anyway). --AVRS (talk) 17:38, 24 October 2020 (UTC)

What I mean to say is that the particular inflatable article in my photograph has no copyright protection on it; it is a custom made design, not a mass-produced toy made by a corporation. There is no legal protection involved. In fact, several copies and derivations of this particular inflatable have already been produced by a few different individuals. No permission is needed to replicate it.

- In addition to the seven warnings about copyright on the user's Commons talk page there have been four more on their Wikipedia talk page dating from 28 July until 28 September. Most recently we had this lively discussion and this one on 15 October when I tried to explain that 'own work' meant that they had to have taken the photo themselves, and that taking screenshots is not allowed. I was told I had 'no prove about it' (sic). These four images were uploaded since my attempt to explain the rules to them, so there remains a fundamental misunderstanding of how copyright works. This church was designed by architect Pierre Fakhoury, whose enwiki article does not indicate the year of his death. The building was completed in 1990. In most countries, all paintings, sculpture, architecture, text, and other creative works have copyrights which last for a certain period of time after the death of the creator (be it the last-surviving architect, engineer, designer, sculptor, engraver, or painter). An image of a work that is still under copyright is a derivative work, and infringes on the copyright so that we cannot usually keep the image on Commons. In some countries, there is a special exception to the copyright law which allows such images under certain circumstances. We call that exception Commons:Freedom of panorama (FoP). - Apparently, the Côte d'Ivoire FoP indicates reproduction of copyrighted buildings and other artworks is allowed with no prohibition from the author (for this case from architect himself), if the reproduced work is "only accessory and incidental to the main subject". Photos are included among those reproductions. But the metadata of the pics still there. Also, you probably can found the pics on an agencia brasil or EBC website if you reverse search the image on google images. - Delete Here's a statement (in Finnish) from the Copyright Council regarding a photograph of a door. According to the statement, the door was a work of art protected by copyright, and the publication of the photograph (which depicted the door and not "the building") without the artist's permission infringed on their rights. Here's my translation attempt of some education material p.20 about the "building exception" (that buildings can be "freely photographed" unlike other artwork): "-- has to be of the building itself and not a detail in the building. Details that are attached to the building and are works of art are not always included in the exception, and for example photographs of windows and doors might not be exempt." The mural in question is a part of a multi piece artwork (seen here on the artist's website) and the art is the main object in the photograph, and therefore IMO the "building exception" doesn't cover it. According to https://web.archive.org/web/20080126234547/https://www.flickr.com/photos/chavals/ Flickruser used cc-by-sa-2.0 in January 2018 (2008 -M.nelson) on his photos. Could not find this photo as web archive did not save all pages. Uploader have uploaded many files from Flickr and very few are delete (one as a duplicate, one no source and one no permission because it was from reddit) so I think uploader knew what licenses were okay. Arcanum, the archiving source the nominator is referring to, is a limited source. It did not archive every newspaper or encyclopaedia, and especially does not really have old government documents scanned.
