Out of Commons:Project scope: Commons is not private photo album. Not used. EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:28, 29 April 2014 (UTC)
Kept: is in use, just not deleted in de wiki Denniss (talk) 14:32, 29 April 2014 (UTC)
Apparently uploaded for use on the uploader's en:wp userpage; however, a different image is now used there, so this is out of scope. Moreover, it's a very non-descriptive name; a file with this name should be protected with an image like File:Logo.jpg. Nyttend (talk) 14:43, 29 June 2010 (UTC)
Deleted. New creations of this file name blocked. Jim . . . . Jameslwoodward (talk to me) 13:26, 6 July 2010 (UTC)
Who is this? No name given in description, and the uploader's never added it to any page in any project. If the uploader wants to identify this person and explain why the image is in scope, I'll reconsider. Meanwhile, note that this is presumably different from the image deleted four years ago. Nyttend (talk) 11:10, 29 April 2014 (UTC)
- Delete and protect against further uploads - this is an unused personal photo with little educational value per COM:EDUSE. Green Giant supports NonFreeWiki (talk) 11:26, 29 April 2014 (UTC)
Deleted The file name was protected against uploads until another Admin deleted it last month. I've reset the protection -- hopefully this time it will stick. . Jim . . . . (Jameslwoodward) (talk to me) 12:30, 29 April 2014 (UTC)

The source site doesn't mention any free license and http://deskarati.com/deskarati-conditions/ only refers to "Fair use", so probably this is a copyright violation. Stegop (talk) 17:13, 29 April 2014 (UTC)
Deleted: yep, its a copyright violation. JuTa 19:45, 1 May 2014 (UTC)
This file was initially tagged by Jarekt as no license (No license since).. which is technically correct, but there is an attempt by the uploader to put a "PD-old-88" tag on it to show how long since the death of the creator. I'm converting this to Nomination to give the uploader some time to work with us on getting the right license on this image instead of just removing it. Ellin Beltz (talk) 23:24, 29 April 2014 (UTC)
- I added {{PD-Art|PD-old-auto|deathyear=1926}} and {{PD-heir}} since it was released by the family of the artist. I do not see anything wrong with this file, so I will close this DR. If there are any objections let me know and I will reopen it. --Jarekt (talk) 02:24, 30 April 2014 (UTC)

As France regrettably has no freedom-of-panorama exception, this sculpture by Aristide Maillol is still copyrighted til end of 2014. So, the image needs to be deleted, but it can be undeleted from January 1, 2015. -- Túrelio (talk) 08:17, 29 April 2014 (UTC)
- Therefore it should be kept away from French Wikipedia and only used in Wikipedia in other languages. There already exists a photo of this sculpture, which quotes the German law on freedom to display public works of art. I think it should be left as it is. It's a very nice photo, too. Francis Hannaway (talk) 09:31, 29 April 2014 (UTC)
- If the said photo is from a sculpture permanently installed in Germany, then it may be covered by FOP of Germany. What is the filename? --Túrelio (talk) 09:51, 29 April 2014 (UTC)
- OK, having read through the blurb (which specifically mentions sculptures by maillol) I accept that it should be deleted. Francis Hannaway (talk) 09:45, 29 April 2014 (UTC)

- Keep: Hmmm. I'm going to vote "keep" because the title card consists only of words, and I think the coloured splotches in the background are insignificant enough for the de minimis principle to apply. {{PD-textlogo}} is an appropriate tag here. — Cheers, JackLee –talk– 15:54, 2 February 2011 (UTC)

Kept (non-admin closure). Jujutacular talk 00:33, 4 March 2011 (UTC)
I note this image was discussed in 2011, however we have no evidence that the background is not a work of art that attracts copyright in its own right. The rationale of TOO or PD-textlogo are insufficient to support the conclusion that the background is ineligible for copyright. Fæ (talk) 09:31, 29 April 2014 (UTC)

Delete because although COM:SCOPE says that customarily users are allowed to upload a small number of personal photos (of themselves) for use on their userpages on other projects, this set of uploads pushes past reasonable custom and into personal webhost territory. Some of these images are school photos which should not be hosted because Commons is not FriendsReunited. The photos of the general are almost certainly copyright violations unless the uploader is/was a government-authorised photographer (which would be something to highlight on a userpage). I say government-authorised because we are talking about a Middle Eastern general who served as Chief of Staff of the Egyptian Armed Forces, no less. They were generally wily and well-connected characters constantly worried about potential assassins (remember the ghost of Sadat). Do we really think they would have let some peasant run up and take a pic for the family album. No sir, these men had big ego's and such people don't want their photos taken by anybody less than an state-approved photographer who is going to capture their best side. No way did our fellow Commoner take these photos and that is why they should be deleted. Green Giant (talk) 17:54, 6 May 2014 (UTC)

Delete This file should be deleted because it is a mashup of two images, one of which has unknown copyright status and the other which is copyrighted to the Korean Central News Agency. In the former case, the picture comes from the Rage Rollercoaster ride at the Adventure Island amusement park in the UK. Since Kim Jong-Un has never been to the UK, it is impossible for him to have riden this ride. Further, the image description claims Kim Jong-Un created this ride for himself, which is blatantly false as well. Lastly, and directly to the copyright point, the latter of the two images used for this mashup is the portrait of Kim Jong-Un posted by the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) and for which copyright has not been released. See this. This, therefore, is a derivative image of a copyrighted image and is burdened with the copyright from KCNA, making it incompatible with Commons license. --Hammersoft (talk) 18:10, 29 April 2014 (UTC)

- Delete Hi. Codename Lisa here. The Windows taskbar was previously uploaded to Commons and deleted after a DR. Windows Explorer icon at its full resolution is not de minimis. - No, the painting is not for free. But the picture of the artist Jan Englund is free to use for anyone for the right purpose for those who has the right interest. Jan Englund was a very famous artist from a part of sweden called "roslagen".
- Well, a picture cant be made free if the things in the picture isnt free. I would say that to much of the painting is visible to say that this picture can be free, its to much of the picture to be De minimis. /Hangsna (talk) 11:00, 2 May 2014 (UTC)
No, that is right. The painting that you can see on the picture is not for free. But this picture of the artist Jan Englund is free to use for anyone for the right purpose for those who has the right interest. Jan Englund was a very famous artist from a part of sweden called roslagen. http://www.lexikonettamanda.se/show.php?aid=22699
Thank you Hangsna for your opinion about the image of the artist Jan Englund. All images of artists or their works are not for free. If you see a picture of a work of art that does not mean that the artwork is for free? But this picture is free for use on Wikipedia like any other pictures that are on Wikipedia.
- The licence text now says its released by the uploader that claims this is "Eget arbete" (own work). Its not own work, it shows work made by an artist and therefore it cant be own work, the work is Englunds. You cant give something free (release for everyone to use) if its not yours to give. In this case its not yours to give. /Hangsna (talk) 11:20, 2 May 2014 (UTC)
Thank you Hangsna for your opinion about the image of the artist Jan Englund. It is intended that the picture should be free to use (release for everyone to use) . "The license text now says its released by the uploader That claims this is "Own work" (own work)". How would you like us to change the license text so that it is correct in your opinion? Please feel free to give your opinion. Wikipedia is the free encyclopedia, and any user is free to edit the texts of others or add information to an article. It is also good for users to learn about what is specified correctly or not for those who are not that experienced with using Wikipedia or who are not administrators. An administrator must act in "good faith,"
- It can only be own work if its own work. The painting is 'own work only if Jan Englund would upload it. /Hangsna (talk) 12:35, 2 May 2014 (UTC)
Thank you Hangsna for your opinion about the image of the artist Jan Englund. Jan Englund died in 2010. How can we change and what can we write instead of being accurate in your opinion? It is good if you come with concrete proposals about what to enter instead of (own work) to the picture. It is intended that the picture Should be free to use (release for everyone to use) in Wikipedia that has a general interest and who want to look at famous artists from roslagen. It is also good for us users to learn about what is specified correctly or not for those who are not that experienced with using Wikipedia or who are not administrators. An administrator must act in "good faith". You are free to change "own work" if you think its wrong.
- Thank you for your attention. I have now changed "the source" to the picture.

Delete because the poster is clearly the main focus of the photo taking up more than a quarter of the photo, with everything else slightly blurred, so this is not de minimis. On the contrary most of the outer edges of the photo are inconsequential because they just happen to be behind that fence. Equally, this is not a case of TOO because five of those "icons" are clearly photographs of living people and that can never be below the threshold of originality. The only one I recognise straightaway is one of the Klitschko brothers, although not being a boxing fan I couldn't tell a ring from a slaughterhouse. Clearly they are all notable people, or else nobody would have bothered putting their photos on there. I mean why would you waste ink on a bunch of nobodies? So yes, delete the photo because the Otters ticket doesn't cover the poster. Green Giant (talk) 17:16, 6 May 2014 (UTC)

Delete this and two other personal photos uploaded by this user. By custom, users are allowed a small number of photos (of themselves) for use on userpages on other projects, per COM:SCOPE, but there is no definition of what that "small number" is. "Usefulness" has just one clear definition - educational usefulness, i.e. it must either be used on an article on another project or thefre must be some credible educational use that is not provided by the ample images we already have. The categories mentioned above already contain several decent photos that aren't dominated by a Wikimedian.
- However, my main concern is a copyright issue, namely that this photo, File:Shanghai tower.JPG and File:Umrah pilgrim at Medina.JPG are claimed as "own work" but clearly the person in the photos did not take the photos. So, either that person in the photos is the user and they are committing copyright violation without crediting the photographer or that person is not the user and therefore there is even less reason to keep all three. - Delete This definitely requires a license using the procedure at Commons:OTRS. As it stands now, someone who claims to be Sunny Thompson has uploaded an image of Sunny Thompson as "own work". Since the image was obviously not taken by Sunny Thompson herself, at least one part of that is incorrect. It is likely that neither the photographer nor the uploader are actually Sunny Thompson, so we need a license from the actual photographer. . Jim . . . . Delete because although COM:SCOPE says that customarily users are allowed to upload a small number of personal photos (of themselves) for use on their userpages on other projects, this set of uploads pushes past reasonable custom and into self-promotion territory. My biggest concern however is the possible copyright violation because the same older lady appears in four of the photos and a younger lady appears in two of the photos. One and maybe both are the uploader, but either they are in the photos and not giving credit to the photographer or the uploader has taken pictures of the same two women and therefore the images are not eligible as personal photos. Either way we should not be hosting these photos. Green Giant (talk) 16:47, 6 May 2014 (UTC)
- Keep. File:Hongkong PP.jpg is an excellent image of Pulitzer Prize winners Paige St. John and Craig F. Walker, which, as can be seen, have articles on the English Wikipedia. File:Pulitzer Hongkong.jpg is not as good a shot but includes those two and two other Pulitzer Prize winners Sara Ganim, and Clifford J. Levy each also with an article. They're from the 2012 Hong Kong Baptist University 5th Annual Pulitzer Prize Winners Workshop, as can be seen by just reading the English language name badge on Walker's shirt and the prominent English language sign in the photo, even if you can't read the Kazakh label on the photo. These are fine contributions, very useful to the encyclopedia, the St. John, Walker, and Levy articles don't even have photos yet, and Ganim doesn't have a very good one, I'm going to add at least the first three there soon. File:Kozhakeev okulary.jpg and File:Zhour Wiki.JPG are apparently a student Wikipedia club at Hong Kong Baptist University which aren't as valuable, but are at least theoretically encyclopedic. Considering those nothing wrong with also including a personal and a family photo. And as for those, there is nothing at all suspicious with having rights to a personal photo taken by a family member; I've sure we've all got hundreds. --GRuban (talk) 00:01, 8 May 2014 (UTC)
- @GRuban: thank you for the clarifications but the important question is who took the photos? It isn't relevant that it might have been a member of their family. If that can be clarified then I would be happy to support keeping the photos. Green Giant (talk) 23:23, 8 May 2014 (UTC)
- She took the photos. Gulmyra Sultanbaeva. Says so right on the tin. All except the self-titled one and the family shot (File:Sultanbayeva Gulmyra.jpg, File:Family S.jpg), naturally, and those ones we can assume good faith that she has the rights to (yes, technically she marked them "own work" as well, but she's not the most experienced user and "it's a work for hire that I own the rights to" doesn't appear as an Upload Wizard option). They're clearly "department store family portrait studio" work, and it's a fair assumption that the fee comes with a rights transfer. You'll notice she doesn't appear in the others. --GRuban (talk) 09:35, 9 May 2014 (UTC)
- "Department store family portrait studio" is exactly the problem here. Too many photos of people, claimed by people as own work when clearly they either used a timer or someone else took the photo. I'm happy to support keeping personal photos as long as the source is changed to reflect the fact that it isn't "own work". Just because hundereds of other users might have done the same, does not mean it automatically becomes OK. If I see such photos I am not going to hesitate to drop the uploader a note and if they don't respond, I'm going to nominate for deletion. Based on those two, I am going to accept that the older lady that appears in four of the photos is either a family member or a friend of the user. With regard to the notability of some of the people in the other photos, I change my opinion to:
- File:Zhour Wiki.JPG - Delete because there is no clear educational value to the photo
- File:Hongkong PP.jpg - Keep per the notable people identified by GRuban
- File:Kozhakeev okulary.jpg - Delete because there is no clear educational value to the photo
- File:Pulitzer Hongkong.jpg - Keep per the notable people identified by GRuban
- File:Family S.jpg - Delete as a family photo that does not fit the COM:SCOPE criteria of being of themselves.
