Hi, I'm a Singaporean born after 1965 and teach law in a university. I'm interested in reading, watching films, visiting museums and art galleries, carrying out family history research, and getting involved in heritage activities. Oh, and editing Wikipedia, which I started doing on 15 September 2006.
The Singapore Stone, a fragment of a sandstone block that once stood at the Singapore River mouth. It bears an inscription that has yet to be fully deciphered.
An 1837 lithograph by James Prinsep of Dr. William Bland's transcription of the inscription.
Drawings of fragments of the block, probably made by J.W. Laidlay, which were published in 1848.
The bottom fragment is today known as the Singapore Stone.
A 19th-century sketch entitled "Chinese Stone Cutters in Pulau Ubin", showing Chinese stonecutters from the "Kay tribe" (that is, of Hakka origin) at work on Pulau Ubin, an island off the northeast coast of Singapore.
