Someone already cropped it, but I also adjusted the levels. The other person created a new file, which I would've done as well. Here it is:

If we could remove or attenuate the white banding, as well as the crumpled paper, both artifacts of the re-scanning/printout/transportation process, that would be great. ;) Then, crop as appropriate, pretty please. Feel free to manipulate the image to better ends, leaving the lapel insignia intact and in view. The "original" in digital form is far from being the original, but might be of better utility as a starting point. Please. let me know if you'd rather work with it. Already deployed in the Mainspace where indicated. --Mareklug talk 03:00, 20 February 2015 (UTC)

Hmm, this is an odd one. All the utlities I'm using on my end tells me that this tiff only has one page, but whenever I upload it to wikimedia it becomes two page. Could anyone else take a look at this? In the meantime, I'm going to create a new PNG version of this photo and upload it. Thanks, Dominik Martinez (talk) 20:21, 5 May 2015 (UTC)
I don't know what's up with that photo. I tried converting it to a png, then back to a tiff, and the multipages were still there. Anyway, I uploaded a png version of the file here. Let me know if you need anything else. Dominik Martinez (talk) 20:47, 5 May 2015 (UTC)

Done with the CropTool. Yann (talk) 09:00, 26 June 2015 (UTC)
- @Yann: I don't think you fully read the request. The request was to remove the decorations from the image because they are likely copyvio. See the deletion request you closed for more information. Offnfopt(talk) 09:43, 26 June 2015 (UTC)
- Copyright on this? That's a bit stretching... Yann (talk) 10:17, 26 June 2015 (UTC)
- I'm not the one who made the suggestion since my knowledge in copyright law is almost non-existent. I'm just repeating the statements made in the deletion request and which was the whole reason for the image edit request here. If your post to the DR would have addressed the comments about possible copyvio caused by the clipart used in the image then we wouldn't be having this conversation. I just wanted to make sure you noticed the comments regarding the reason for the edit because none of those concerns have been addressed. Offnfopt(talk) 10:34, 26 June 2015 (UTC)

- Graphist opinion(s)
@Yann: Hopefully I didn't do too much to where the picture is undesirable. I figured since the focus seemed to be the actress and not the art I would take the chance that doing the extra modifications would be ok. I also uploaded it as PNG so we wouldn't have to worry about degradation caused by the lossy compression used by the JPEG format. Just for my own knowledge, what about the frame makes the image non-free? -- Offnfopt(talk) 19:40, 19 June 2015 (UTC) Edit: I have a secondary version prepared to upload if it turns out I did do too much, the second version is much less drastic.Offnfopt(talk) 20:02, 19 June 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks a lot! You are fast... This should be JPEG, so I overloaded the original with a JPEG version. Yann (talk) 20:08, 19 June 2015 (UTC)

@KAVEBEAR: there are two revisions in the upload history. The first was rotated slightly because the original picture scan orientation was off a bit. The problem with the rotate is it causes a minor pixel blur. So I uploaded a second version without the rotate, but that means more had to be cropped away. If you prefer the rotated one then revert. Offnfopt(talk) 05:38, 22 June 2015 (UTC)
@Offnfopt: Reverting my statement is an insolence, You should better abstain from this!
Everyone with one eye in his head should see the troubles with the Wiki-Render-Software.
PNGs are very blurry in the preview compared to JPGs. Therefore, this format should better not not be used. Regards, MagentaGreen (talk) 09:57, 22 June 2015 (UTC)

- I tried using lasso & magic wand tool in Gimp and can't get alpha channel to work for more than one selection. Any tips, tutorials, appreciated.

- Graphist opinion(s)
Unfortunately the wiki software displays PNGs and GIFs in the preview quite blurred - insofar, there are no benefits to formats that can represent true transparency. If you instead can be content with a monochrome background (eg. white), I will gladly assist. Regards, MagentaGreen (talk) 23:13, 23 July 2015 (UTC)
- Yes, please, @MagentaGreen: , do give a monochrome white background for jpeg a whirl. All the images on https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:The_Wikipedia_Library/Coordinators use jpeg and have an acceptable, very narrow frame, which, if possible, I would like to emulate precisely (if not possible to eliminate frame altogether). -- Paulscrawl (talk) 18:32, 24 July 2015 (UTC)
- @Paulscrawl: Will this file work for you? I did it in a bit of a rush so I can take another stab at it when I get another chance if this doesn't work for you. Offnfopt(talk) 01:09, 24 July 2015 (UTC)
- Thank you, @Offnfopt: . I tried that on my User page here on the Commons, with and without the frameless parameter, and think perhaps png not optimum. I've asked MagentaGreen (just above) to try a suggestion, but welcome your input (if not duplicating efforts) and thank you again. -- Paulscrawl (talk) 18:32, 24 July 2015 (UTC)

- P.S. Shouldn't the source be the original jpeg? -- Paulscrawl (talk) 23:38, 24 July 2015 (UTC)
- It is based off of my edits to the image so it should source my edited image. It is a derivative work of my derivative work. If it was based off of the original without using any of my edits then the source would be the original. Offnfopt(talk) 23:53, 24 July 2015 (UTC)
- If that is the case, I would respectfully ask @MagentaGreen: to work from the original, as the link to the original photographer's work would be direct. -- Paulscrawl (talk) 06:05, 25 July 2015 (UTC)
@Jastrow: Your beautiful photo at issue. I don't know the policies. Wanted to:
- (1) credit you directly in metadata
- (2) have derivative file name (..."-transparent") parallel your original file name and avoid parentheses in file name (e.g., Move/Rename File:Tetradrachm Athens 450 reverse CdM Paris (B).jpg to File:Tetradrachm Athens 450 reverse CdM Paris transparent.jpg.
- Rename/Move request recently rejected: "not transparent"?
- Love your photo! Your thoughts? -- Paulscrawl (talk) 05:50, 25 July 2015 (UTC)
- Something like "white ground" or "WG" would be fine I guess. I don't mind if my original picture is overwritten either, as the original background is rather useless. Jastrow (Λέγετε) 11:46, 25 July 2015 (UTC)
It is already the second time that Offnfopt change my edits and he describes himself unfairly as editor. It is easily possible to make the differences between the different versions clearly visible. MagentaGreen (talk) 08:32, 25 July 2015 (UTC)
@Paulscrawl and Jastrow: I've uploaded the obverse side not only to show that I don't need the help of anyone else. Regards MagentaGreen (talk) 11:36, 25 July 2015 (UTC)
p.s. I wonder something about the color. Is this due to the contamination of silver with copper?
- @MagentaGreen: I cut out the background by hand and every turn and every curve that I made by hand is present in your image. The fact that you would use my edits to the image to make your image and take credit yourself for the work I did is insulting. You did not spend the time to cut the background out, this is a fact. There is no way you would have the exact curves to your image if you did it on your own. I don't know why I bother donating my time and effort when there are users like you. - Offnfopt(talk) 17:13, 25 July 2015 (UTC)
MagentaGreen said "It is already the second time that Offnfopt change my edits and he describes himself unfairly as editor. It is easily possible to make the differences between the different versions clearly visible." 08:32, 25 July 2015 (UTC)
- I changed the source once, my edit was never reverted, you never changed it back and you never tried to discuss the matter with me. It is clearly visible you downloaded a copy of my edited image and used it in the process of making yours. I'm not claiming what I did was hard and that you couldn't do it, but it is a time consuming process that I spent doing. You clearly used my work to make yours and if it will be allowed for a editor to claim the work of another as his own, I see no further reason to donate my time and effort. - Offnfopt(talk) 17:26, 25 July 2015 (UTC)
Dear Offnfopt,
your hostilities are slowly getting funny, we used both the same basis, so why should the cut edges that are based on brightness and contrast values be not the same - are you the only creature with two eyes in his head? The time now is little more than a month ago (6-22-15), as you reacts in a similar case (PNG vs. JPG) just as uncomfortable and inappropriately; now again it looks as if you wants to break unnecessarily a quarrel. But here is not the place for such childish things. MagentaGreen (talk) 20:57, 25 July 2015 (UTC)
- I cut away parts of the coin, parts that if you had cut the coin out yourself you would have kept. I did this to smooth out the edges. Like I said above, every single curve I made is in your revision. I find it insulting that you continue to claim the editing I did (removing the background) as yours. You took my image, re-sized it a bit smaller to make it more square, you used a sharpen filter on the image and claim all the editing done by you. These actions show your true character. There is nothing wrong with you building on my work, but don't claim all the work as your own. - Offnfopt(talk) 22:10, 25 July 2015 (UTC)
- Don't bother replying, I am done with thread and I'm done with you. I come here to help users and have to deal with this type of insulting non-sense. I'm going to take a long break from commons, maybe in two years or so I'll check back. Offnfopt(talk) 22:13, 25 July 2015 (UTC)

They really should be deleted as Out of Scope. I suggest you search for some better quality images, possibly on Flickr. Perhaps some of the Flickr images in this search or this search might work for you. Ww2censor (talk) 23:25, 20 August 2015 (UTC)

- I need to "kill" the strong white background by altering the background colour and/or pattern.
- Suggestions: (one or more)
- In the top half of the photo, I think we need to change all of the background including the light brown areas above the sax.
- The white area left of the sax could benefit from treatment, if the shape of the "bell" of the sax can be realistically shown. Feel free to adjust the exposure of the image.
- The background could be changed to a light grey eg R220G223B231 or pale blue eg R226G237B254.
- The background could be changed to a pattern eg squares or hexagons.
- Any technique you have used in the past. -CaesarsPalaceDude (talk) 21:20, 28 August 2015 (UTC)

- Thankyou so much, @MagentaGreen, that has really brought these guys out of the "fog". I love it. Would it be possible to alter the orientation a little, please? They look like they are all leaning to the left. I believe we will get the OTRS ticket; a friend of mine knows a close relative of the photographer. Thanks for your encouragement. CaesarsPalaceDude (talk) 00:15, 25 July 2015 (UTC)
- Hi @CaesarsPalaceDude, I've changed the perspective again and again, maybe the photographer can decide which version is correct.

- It's a beautiful thing! @MagentaGreen Unfortunately, Tom Hart is no longer with us, but I'm sure he would be impressed. Can I make a suggestion for the future? In the 50s and early 60s, they didn't use wide angle lenses that much. So, the quickest way to align these shots is to make the right corner of the building exactly vertical, which you have done. I'm completely happy, thanks again. Great work. CaesarsPalaceDude (talk) 20:55, 25 July 2015 (UTC)

- Hi @باسم, the big downside of the formats PNG or GIF (that supports transparency) is that they are rendered blurry by the Wikimedia servers except in the original size. You can tell me the desired background color and I will make the appropriate adjustment (JPG format without transparency but clear and sharp).

- Shot taken by non-professional on a camera with auto settings, which explains the 0.125 sec shutter speed. Could you sharpen the image, please, concentrating on the effect on the face and saxophone? Please ignore the movement of the left hand which I regard as useful (a jazz saxophonist is meant to have very fast fingers). If the left hand becomes a little sharper that will be acceptable. Thanking you in anticipation. - CaesarsPalaceDude (talk) 21:21, 11 September 2015 (UTC)
- Graphist opinion(s)
- Due to the high ISO noise, it is hardly possible to achieve more sharpness. In addition, the impression of color dependents highly on the chosen size of the preview.
- Regards MagentaGreen (talk) 11:46, 13 September 2015 (UTC)
- The photographer said that the shot was taken under low light conditions, so it's not surprising that there is high noise. Thankyou, the contrast and exposure appear to be greatly improved, and it looks to me to be somewhat sharper or clearer. I will compare the two in the infobox, to help me to decide what to do next, if anything. I will give you an update, in the near future. CaesarsPalaceDude (talk) 12:52, 14 September 2015 (UTC)

The building looks much better now, but the colours seem a bit exaggerated, and the sky should not have been changed at all. After all, the picture was taken in November. --Schlosser67 (talk) 08:33, 3 September 2015 (UTC)
- @Schlosser67 I did a time leap from golden October to gloomy November.
- I understand, artistic license and all that, but I'd rather not change too much. After all, the image is meant for an encyclopedia, not for the backdrop of a model railway. Better keep the old sky. --Schlosser67 (talk) 06:07, 11 September 2015 (UTC)
- @Schlosser67, please tell me, which sky? Areas that can be considered as sky are extremely outshone. So it's a fault of the photographer (obviously he didn't use a polarizing filter). This falsifies the reality probably more than my retouching. But of course you are free to keep on using the old photo, if that satisfies more your encyclopedic intentions.
- Regards MagentaGreen (talk) 07:17, 11 September 2015 (UTC)
- I grant you that the sky in the original image looks much too bright. I'm just wondering about the clouds that were not visible in the old picture at all. Did they reappear when the contrast was adjusted? After all, thinking about the weather patterns in Central Europe, an almost solid grey sky does not seem uncommon for a day in November. --Schlosser67 (talk) 13:59, 14 September 2015 (UTC)
- Even the area behind the roof gutter is outshone. This has nothing to do with an overcast sky, there's just too much light. I inserted the clouds to give the sky some structure. I comply with your request, to change the colors and I think, the scene corresponds now to a day in November, either with nor without clouds.
- Regards, MagentaGreen (talk) 18:16, 14 September 2015 (UTC)
- Let's consider the case closed. Many thanks for your help. --Schlosser67 (talk) 10:54, 22 September 2015 (UTC)

Reminder to MagentaGreen and other graphists: The code {{section resolved|1=~~~~}} must be used to force the bot to auto-archive the thread in 30 days. The code is easily visible at the bottom of each thread in the editing window (commented out until it is desired). If only the "Done" code is used, the thread will not get auto-archived. Please remember this so this page doesn't get filled with nearly 50 threads as it has in the past. The requesters don't know to add this, so the graphist should do this when they add the "Done" notice. It allows the requester 30 days to view the work on this page. Thank you! - Reply to Softlavender and other members: This is already known to me, but there is a difference if something is done, or even resolved. As graphist I'm just make a proposal here. Once I have this displayed, this proposal is done for me. Whether the requester likes the result and it meets his expectations, is an entirely different question, that can only answer the requester himself. After a reasonable time the missing code can be supplemented by outsiders of course, as you have done it now. I thank you for that, but please understand that I do not want to be active in own behalf. Best Regards and Merry Christmas, MagentaGreen (talk) 10:05, 24 December 2015 (UTC)
- Hi, MagentaGreen, requesters are never going to use {{section resolved|1=~~~~}}, so it's up to the graphist to do so. Using it gives the requester 30 days to respond. If they haven't responded in 30 days, they aren't interested. The graphist needs to post the {{section resolved|1=~~~~}} right when they post their proposal. If they don't, this page is just going to fill up with 50 or more threads as has happened in the past. The {{section resolved|1=~~~~}} code is supposed to be used right when you post a proposal (even if you use a "Done" tag), not after the requester responds. And let's face, it no graphists post the code later on. It needs to be done immediately, when the proposal is posted. Thanks. Softlavender (talk) 01:11, 25 December 2015 (UTC)
