I'm not comfortable with this. Altough the Flickr post has the child's name, it is not clear whether this is in a public place or has the permission of the child's parents. •  Comment: I've tagged the image with {{Personality rights}}. But personally I would lean toward  Delete because the baby might be the flickr owner's own child. This wasn't an image taken by a foreign tourist which would make it OK. Some parents become very emotional if they see images of their children being sold for a profit on the web. That's just my personal view. --Leoboudv (talk) 23:55, 20 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Licensed as PD-Old with a date of "1 January 1400" and author unknown, but this is very certainly not a 15th century painting. It looks like a modern painting, and in the absence of an original author or source we cannot assume that it is PD. BabelStone (talk) 19:44, 20 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

this map is based on outdated data and contains several errors - see discussion Sajoch (talk) 08:12, 20 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

We should keep the map. It is not outdated, it contains no errors. Minorities in Trentino are protected according the territorial principle, not to the personal one (this applies to South Tyrol). Gryffindor's map shows the protected, officially recognized area (full color) and distinguishes it from the areas where people declare to be Ladin but this has no practical effects (stripes). As the Ladin, Mocheno, and Cimbrian area did not change at all, this map is still valid. And it is better and more informative than this map File:Language_distribution_Trentino_2011.png, which is not correct, as it mixes Cimbrian and Mocheno with German.--Patavium (talk) 21:25, 22 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

This map exhibits several problems:

  • it is outdated: census data of 2011 is available
  • Solander and Nones are colored blue like Ladin, while it is disputed whether those dialecs could be considered ladin dialects at all
  • Mocheno and Cimbrian use different colors, while it is well-known, that both are dialects of the German language
  • in the Sole valley hardly anyone declared "Ladin" at the Census (less than 2%), so it shouldn't be colored at all
  • some communes in south-east are colored yellow, while there's no noteworthy number of native Cimbrian speakers
  • there are striped areas around Fassa and Mocheno valley, which aren't backed up by any source

As a new map already exists (File:Language_distribution_Trentino_2011.png), this one should be deleted.--Sajoch (talk) 21:41, 28 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The new maps created by Sajoch are wrong. Cimbrian and Mocheno are different languages, German is quite distant from them. They have different ortography, different pronounciation, different teaching at school, different media etc.
This map is perfect as long as Nones territory is not officially recognized. When this happens, we will change from stripes to full colour.
It is Sajochs map that is not backed by any source.--Patavium (talk) 21:50, 28 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
This is a specific request to delete a single map. Please don't deviate to other images (which are correct btw).--Sajoch (talk) 22:19, 28 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
This map is correct and cannot be substituted with your wrong maps.--Patavium (talk) 22:47, 28 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
If User:Sajoch says the map is wrong, then I am fine with that, it can be deleted and replaced with his maps. Gryffindor (talk) 12:20, 11 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

It's not own work, but a screenshot from 1:04 in this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=29i6P_n99Uw. Don't know whether Sea Shepherd releases it's videos in PD, otherwise it's a copyvio Jan Arkesteijn (talk) 14:02, 20 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I guess the video has the usual Youtube-license and not a CC one? (Sorry, I can't check that myself since the video is blocked in Germany). However, it doesen't look like they usually use free licenses or release media into PD: seashepherd.org/copyright.html. --El Grafo (talk) 14:17, 20 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Delete it if you wish. If you think it somehow 'violates' something, not a big deal. i was trying to improve your article with a much newer photo than what Wiki had. i'm a Sea Shepherd land-duties volunteer. i was standing right beside the engineer... he with his camera, and i with mine. Would you like to see some of the other photos i'd taken that day? It was April 7th of 2011 and i believe the gentleman's name was Sam. Note: A screen capture would not have the quality of my photo nor the internal time/date tag (added by iq145 on discussion page)
And the cloud in the top-right corner looks different too. --El Grafo (talk) 12:34, 25 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Comment That screenshot is from the wrong video frame. I took one from YouTube's low definition 360 pixel wide FLV, resized to 606 wide and cropped the bottom and the match is much closer, remarkably close in fact, see [1] (an imgur link). I tried a manual blink comparator method and had difficulty determining whether the only differences were the Jpeg artifacting from the camera version (I saw no artifacts in the video frame). There were slight differences in the colour response, but I noticed similar differences among YouTube's various versions of this video. I also noticed the exact frames vary among the YouTube versions, this frame is missed in the 720p MP4 and 1080p versions for example. Nevertheless, I would accept the uploader's word in this case, although a higher resolution upload would have helped detect the parallax difference. -84user (talk) 20:45, 31 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  •  Keep As above. (The video license is Standard Youtube). I can see how it could easily be mistaken for a frame from the video because the camera position seems to be the same --moogsi(blah) 14:23, 30 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  •  Delete After looking at the evidence above I will change my appraisal. The uploader agrees to delete if there is a problem. It would be nice if he could upload in higher rez and include camera exif. It seems my youtube screen shot is higher rez than his camera image, 1920x1087 vs 606 x329. I had cropped off the youtube bar on bottom.--Canoe1967 (talk) 21:34, 31 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Unclear as to when this diagram was published, so possibly not PD. -mattbuck (Talk) 23:08, 20 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • The train it is on and relates to was introduced in 1938, so it almost certainly dates from no later than that year (I'll ask for expert opinion though). The information about when anonymous works are in the public domain I can find on Commons contradicts itself suggesting either 50 or 70 years after publication. In the first case this has likely been PD since at least 1988, in the latter case since 2008 (meaning it wasn't OK when I uploaded the file in 2005 but is now). Thryduulf (talk) 00:50, 21 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
My thought is it is probably PD, but we all know that trains made in the 1980s are still regularly getting new safety posters, so would be good to have confirmation. -mattbuck (Talk) 01:27, 21 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
True, but this isn't a safety notice - it's an informational notice for the train operator. The only time it would change would be when the location of emergency equipment changed - the only plausible time for that would be a refurbishment. Thryduulf (talk) 07:11, 21 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The middle diagram is described as "3 car unit with U.N.D.M.", and the top car of that diagram also shows "U.N.D.M.". The car type UNDM (Uncoupling Non-Driving Motor) was first approved by London Transport in July 1950. 70 UNDMs were then built as part of the 1949 Tube Stock order, which always ran with the 1938 Tube Stock fleet; and a further 22 were converted from existing cars of 1938 Stock, the last conversion being carried out in 1953. The 1938/1949 Stock UNDMs were all withdrawn by 1974. --Redrose64 (talk; at English Wikipedia) 11:55, 21 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
More: the first UNDM (car nos. 30023 & 31000) were delivered 16 November 1951, and the type began to enter service in February 1952. Since the diagram will have been publically visible no earlier than February 1952, then if publication+50 applies, that's February 2002; but if publication+70 applies, that's not until February 2022. --Redrose64 (talk; at English Wikipedia) 15:46, 21 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Profil droit. English: Right profile
Date 1870(publication) [et non 1801]
Source ark:/12148/btv1b77205530
Cordialement. --Fguinard 22:59, 10 January 2013 (UTC)

I've applied {{PD-US-record}} here (it was {{PD}} originally), but the whole state-common-law-copyright situation is rather complex, and I'm not entirely convinced of the validity of the template itself. One additional question here is whether the (federal) copyright in the songwriting has expired, separate from the copyright in the sound recording; Hurt died in 1966. Rd232 (talk) 17:58, 20 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  •  Question The rule is that all files on Commons have to be free in the United States. Do we require them to be free in all parts of the United States or only in the state where the servers are located and/or the state where the Wikimedia Foundation's office is located? The copyright status for sound recordings seems to differ from state to state. Also, it seems that no one really has investigated how it works. Should we try nominating the template for deletion first and see what happens after that? --Stefan4 (talk) 00:29, 14 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
