I am an active and long time user since 2013-07 on en.wiki with 2k edits and fa.wiki (farsi/persian) with +4k edits mostly in the field of w:en:free software, Linux applications and w:en:GNOME (see its history for last months of 2018‎), I also am active on commons in the same field and have requested renaming for at least 20 or 25 files and highly help to categorizing the images, see my contributions at yesterday for example, I have categorized all the images in Category:Screenshots of GNOME version 3. Now I want to categorizing all the images in Category:Screenshots of GNOME and highly need to this permission. @Gereon K.: Thank you. Editor-1 (talk) 05:46, 2 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I am a longtime contributor at Commons with over 19K edits and over 120 uploads. A high percentage of my edits are adding categories to uncategorized files, where I often find files that need criterion 2 renames. I've also had a few criteria 1/3 naming mistakes in my own uploads. Seems easier on everyone if I have the right rather than bothering others. Thank you. RL0919 (talk) 22:00, 2 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sysop on Italian Wikipedia (37K edits) and Wikidata (650+K edits), on Commons I've been active mainly in improving categorization (5K edits); since 2018 I've been much involved in WLM in Italy, mainly Tuscany, and many files need renaming, so I would like to help, as Alexmar983 suggested me. Thank you. Epìdosis 15:16, 4 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
We have a huge backlog of poorly named files that we should reduce before WLM2019 starts. that's why we need more flags already now. We are already preparing the 2019 edition.--Alexmar983 (talk) 15:36, 4 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I'm an admin on English Wikipedia and Wikidata and an active Wikimedian since 2003. In working with a number of GLAM entities, I have the need to re-order, consolidate and clean up their bulk uploads over time. Currently, this consists of folks like the Cleveland Museum of Art [1] and The Metropolitan Museum of Art in addition to the Smithsonian Institution uploads. Having filemover abilities would help very much in this area. I've been a Commons uploader since its first year of operation and contribute several original photography projects each year, such as the 2018 Pulitzer Prize winner portrait project and others. I have been a consistent contributor at Commons for several years and have over 3 thousand edits. I often need to disambiguate file names based on my efforts to make categories and metadata more specific. I am a reliable and trustworthy user and it would be more efficient for me to be able to rename files myself rather than waiting for another user to do it for me. Kiwichris (talk) 06:00, 3 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I would like to get back the filemover flag, especially to rename files uploaded by me or with a title that does not indicate anything, File:IMG-20180329-WA0003_(2).jpg, once the time has passed and I will not make the mistakes that made me lose the flag. Thank you. MONUMENTA Talk 19:20, 15 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello community members, I want to get the filemover right! I an going to use this right either to rename my own files (if neccessary) or for other files which title is basically wrong or the given expression can not be found properly on Commons. I also know that the guideline is to have about 1.000 - 1.500 edits on Commons. At the moment, I only have almost 900, nevertheless it would be great to get the filemover right. Personally I contribute in the chemistry sector of Wikimedia Commons and can provide high-quality chemical diagram (you can find them here). In the last days, I already have opened some file renaming requests which had been answered positively. For example, I try to improve files with their name like this example show. Long story short: If you think I am ready for archieving this right, then I would be very happy for any kind of support! Best regards & thank you. EDIT: At the moment, I have about 1.200 edits on Commons! Chem Sim 2001 (talk) 17:11, 23 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Question @Chem Sim 2001: Would you rename theoretical File:Dihydrogen Monoxide.png? Why or why not? What do you think of that compound?   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 17:10, 10 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Jeff G.: No, I would not! IMO this file name would be correct. It´s basically not the common used name for "water" or "H2O", but I think that name can also have a sence in certain articles or cases! I really want to focus on very obvious file name error like I mentioned above with the "-Seite001". Regards, Chem Sim 2001 (talk) 17:14, 10 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  •  Support, autopatrolled too.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 17:26, 10 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  •  Comment @Chem Sim 2001: Per your request at my talk page, I considered this application. In my opinion, "Seite001" ("Page001" in German, added automatically to SVG conversions by Scribus, according to this discussion) is innocuous and does not need to be removed from file names. Please note that file names are best kept as stable as possible, so we do not rename files for beautification reasons, but to rectify errors. Thus, in my opinion, you should not put time into removing "Seite001" from file names. I would also like to see more rename requests in your portfolio. Currently, I can only count 4 rename request [2] [3] [4] [5] among your contributions which I think are not enough to show your familiarity with COM:MOVE policy. My suggestion for you is to use {{Rename}} for more files in the current week, and I will review your contributions at the weekend and hopefully give you this right based on your new accepted rename requests. Thanks 4nn1l2 (talk) 18:46, 12 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@4nn1l2: In my opinion, the "-Seite001" annex of a file is a useless expression, which can lead to misunderstandings or false usage of that particular file (e.g. in a wrong contex because it influences the file name). I have also noticed, that such renaming requests like I did, were requested for years on Commons. Especially in the chemistry sector, it´s important to have a clear and structured name of a formula with no useless annexes like "-Seite001" or "Filename.jpg.png" (here: .png is the file format´, but, due to conversion the .jpg, is still there). I can provide a lot of cases of the WikiProject Chemistry, where exactly the same renamings took place: Example 1, Example 2, Example 3 etc. I can even list more. Through the fact that all of my 4 requests to rename those files have been proven right and were taken into action, I really don´t know what´s wrong with my requets! In conclusion, I really can´t understand why you refuse my request :( . Regards, Chem Sim 2001 (talk) 19:15, 12 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I did not refuse your request. I just added a comment explaining my opinion (and that was per your own request). Any other admin can approve or reject this application. I am not convinced yet how Seite001 can be confusing or misleading. Criterion#3 does not apply here in my opinion. Criterion#4 or #6 seem to be more relevant. Surely, there are many gray areas in file renamings and the community may well be divided in some cases. If in doubt, I opt for stability myself. File names are not that important in my opinion; file description are of greater importance. 4nn1l2 (talk) 19:41, 12 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, if you want to stay on your opinion, it´s okay for me! In my honest opinion, it´s sad that people, who only want to help to improve things here on Commons, were often put a spoke in the wheel! Chem Sim 2001 (talk) 20:00, 12 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Please consider me as a filemover. I have been here for over 14 years, and uploaded thousands of files, including my own work and many 19th-century images. I have done a lot of work in categorisation when and as I see the need for new categories coming up. However that does mean long days sometimes, and that increases the chance of typos in filenames and category names. Also, further research sometimes prompts the correction of a filename. It would improve things if I could correct a filename instead of asking others to do it. Thank you. Storye book (talk) 12:49, 21 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

As an admin on wikisource, I often have to rename files and linked pages (on Index pages) for the publication of books. But, because of the specific system for editing books, the files have to be renamed here first ; and, as I do not have renaming rights here, I have to wait for the effective renaming here, sometimes for hours, which can be pretty inconvenient for the subsequent renaming afterwards on frwikisource. I'd like to be able to do all the work directly. Thank you. Hsarrazin (talk) 10:34, 22 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello to the Administrator here, I want to make a request for Hiàn to be given Filemover rights, Hiàn already demonstrated enough understanding of file renaming with his many move request, and I feel it's only correct that Hiàn is given access to move the file himself. Another reason He currently have 59475 edits on commons with many of them are maintenance for files. I'll be honest, I only really plan to rename my own files when I've made a mistake during uploading. So I won't have to bother file movers. For example, I still had the file from File:Mary Gay Scanlon, official portrait, 116th Congress.jpg saved on my computer from before it was renamed. Now the spelling error appeared on my new upload because of that. It's not even originally my typo, I merely overlooked it. I'd like to be able to fix such errors myself. I am familiar with the policies of many Wikimedia wikis, including Commons. I’ve recently found a large set of wrongly named SVG diagrams of Spanish road signs, and intead of requesting individual renames, I’d like to do them myself. This is just one example of the clean-up I’ve done over the years, focusing on harmonizing file names across sets and performing sane-checks of file names in the languages I speak. Thank you. I am requesting to have Filemover rights since I already submit many file-move requests. For example, recently I have been submitting many requests to move pages relating to the United States Government that do not meet Criterion 4 (See File:ForestServiceLogoOfficial.svg, File:FHWA logo vertical 2013.jpg, File:Environmental Protection Agency logo.svg, among others). It would be highly appreciated if such privileges would be granted to me and would help out Commons in general as there would be less of a backlog for requests to move files. I have also been granted AWB Rights by the community. Note: I am currently banned on the English wiki due to incompetence. I am not planning to appeal the ban anytime soon as I seem to have found my lane here on Commons for the tasks that I prefer to do and plan to remain doing such, but I have been putting in more effort to show the contrary to what has occurred on the en.wiki. If my request is denied due to the ban I will find it understandable, but I hope my reputation on Commons can persuade the communities opinion to grant filemover privileges to me, but I digress. I am a bot operator. I find that when debugging the bot, it is very useful when the bot making mistake and needing to fix. To request renaming usually too slow and need to stop debugging. Thank you. Kanashimi (talk) 22:58, 6 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello everyone, I'm a french entomologist and botanist. It will be very great if I can rename images. Why? Firstly, because I make some mistakes when I upload files (sometimes) ; secondly, because I find some mistakes when I rank plants, smut fungi or insects files on the right categories; thirdly, because I identify images of insects, plants and smut fungi, here on Commons, and on a WP:fr project ; finally, because I'm tired of asking for it. Thank you in advance and have a good day. --Abalg (talk) 17:30, 8 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I've recently been working through Category:Files of buses with bad file names and Category:Unidentified buses in the United Kingdom. This results in me having to make a large amount of criterion 2 renaming requests. It would be helpful if I were able to do these myself, especially as I generally have to go back over what I've requested to remove the bad file name cats. OxonAlex (talk) 17:56, 27 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
✓ Granted - filemover and autopatroller granted. ~riley (talk) 04:25, 28 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I have obtained 100,000+ China Academic Digital Associative Library books in public domain and plan to upload them. Some of them have already been uploaded from Internet Archive. I request file mover rights to harmonize naming for old uploads.--Wmr-bot (talk) 11:52, 2 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@維基小霸王: If I am not mistaken, you are asking the permission for your bot account, correct? Which means this permission will probably be used to make automated moves. Is this an approved bot task? Masum Reza📞 12:19, 2 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Support I support the proposal and I have a bot with filemover rights as well. Having a bot with filemover rights doesn't mean it will make automated moves immediately, but can be used to correct for any misnamed files during a massive upload task.--Midleading (talk) 12:50, 2 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Yes I am applying for my bot. Non-controversial maintenance is an allowed bot task.--維基小霸王 (talk) 13:45, 2 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • ✓ Granted - conditional on the fact that you are moving your own uploads. If you are using this flag on your bot account to move uploads made by other users (even if non-controversial maintenance), you would be operating outside of the scope approved under your original bot task and would need to make a new bot request. ~riley (talk) 20:28, 2 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I'm a filemover in zhwiki, and I've requested a few successful renames based on the policies and guidelines in commons. I'd like to request the filemover right so I can handle my own file moves and help maintain the files in commons. Thank you. TimWu007 (talk) 03:36, 3 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@: what was your rational for requesting moving of File:Filmpuls Magazin Logo.svg. - FitIndia Talk Mail 10:01, 15 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@: in which language did you feel that the spelling was incorrect as there is a page Filmpuls on German Wikipedia. Please do have a look at which files should not be renamed. - FitIndia Talk Mail 14:40, 15 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hello. I think I'm familiar with the renaming policy. I recently made a couple of rename requests like Special:Diff/375369094 and Special:Diff/375376659. I'm a license reviewer, and I sometimes see "obvious errors" in file names (such as incorrect dates). In such cases, I have to ask a file mover or request for rename by tagging all the files, but I can do it myself with the file mover right. Aside from that, I review uploads by new users and sometimes see good uploads with "meaningless or ambiguous name"s that I can't change. I also check some of Category:Files with bad file names subcategories and try to help. I always do some research first and ensure that my decision is justified, and I won't rename files when I'm in doubt. Thank you. Ahmadtalk 20:26, 15 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I sometimes work on Category:Files_that_likely_originated_from_WhatsApp_with_bad_file_names and so I ended up making most of rename requests per criterion 2. I've no idea why some FileMovers don't remove the {{WhatsApp|rename}} after renaming those files, creating extra work for me. As for suppressredirect right, I sometimes need to move pages that were accidentally created in other namespace by newbies where they are not supposed to, and this right would be helpful. Sometimes I need to replace file names globally (PNG > SVG). Unfortunately just replace script isn't available for non-file movers. So I fabricate my groups using my common.js (mw.config.set). But if I do that, some non-admin scripts (eg. RenameLink) doesn't work! Thank you for your consideration. Masum Reza📞 11:48, 24 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, i know i have only 600 edits there, but i have more than 10k edits globaly. I would use this right for mooving my files at first, after few weeks i can start to make requests. Thank you. --janbery (talk) 14:59, 2 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • ✓ Granted for filemover and autopatroller. Less than 1,000 edits, however, 12 previous rename requests. Checked contribs, no concerns. RE: DRs on talk page, learning curve has been demonstrated. ~riley (talk) 21:23, 2 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I really don't move files very often which is why I never considered asking for it but more recently I've moved from anti-vandalism to more tame categorization and organization work and have been requesting more renames. Don't need it by any means but might lighten the workload for others. I'm admittedly not very active these days either. Thank you. EoRdE6(Come Talk to Me!) 02:02, 6 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I nominate Ham II as our new File Mover. He is an experienced user with us since December 2014 with over 94000 edits on Commons and 225000+ global edits. He has already autopatroller rights on Commons. He uploads many files on Commons. At some instances the names are not proper so I think he needs the FM rights to correct the names. Thank You.--√Tæ√ 08:53, 6 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
When I came across my previous uploads, most of them got inappropriate names. Requesting file-move for those kinds of files may consume other file-mover's time.--IM3847 (talk) 16:58, 9 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
