File renames for photos in Category:Wikimedia Summit 2019 - Participants' portraits (to be renamed)
[edit]Thanks for fulfilling all of my move requests! I think I've done all of the people whose names I clearly know, so my requests will be stopping for now. Cheers, Airplaneman ✈ 16:24, 5 April 2019 (UTC)

RFA Support
[edit]Hi. Since I cannot edit on Commons:Administrators/Requests/Jeff G. 3 anymore, I wanted to reach out and thank you for your support on my recent RFA. Even though it didn't end the way I wanted, I appreciate your support. — Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me 00:06, 20 April 2019 (UTC)
- I regret the outcome turn out to be this way, but Jeff G. do not lose hope, I strongly belief that you are net positive for commons and someday people will see it, virtue can't be hidden, people do notice it, albeit late.--AldnonymousBicara? 04:57, 20 April 2019 (UTC)

Tagging copyvios
[edit]Hi, When tagging copyright violations, please inform the uploader. This is best done using the gagdet. See in your preferences to enable them, tab "Gadget", section "Maintenance tools" : "AjaxQuickDelete" and "Quick delete". These add links in the left column (or right column for Hebrew, Arabic, etc., language interface). Regards, Yann (talk) 11:39, 27 April 2019 (UTC)
- Yann already enabled, and talkpage already notified using those gadget.--AldnonymousBicara? 12:19, 27 April 2019 (UTC)
File:De-Gießen2.oga
[edit]Could you comment why you ignored my opose comment? ...Sicherlich talk 10:36, 1 May 2019 (UTC)
- Sicherlich you mean this one Commons:Deletion requests/File:De-Gießen.ogg ? This file is different than that one, this one has male voice in it. In fact I don't think it has any relation with that file except that this file is within a set, per No. 4 reason cited from here (Commons:File_renaming#Which_files_should_not_be_renamed?) this file don't have any copyright Issue, why the rename shouldn't be done then?--AldnonymousBicara? 14:05, 1 May 2019 (UTC)
- No, I mean File:De-Gießen2.oga which you moved. The comment is still at the description page ...Sicherlich talk 14:30, 1 May 2019 (UTC)
- Oh, and reason 4 does not apply. Please check the rule (I know, nobody does, but still):
Just because images share a category does not mean that they are part of a set. There are two scenarios that this criterion is designed for. First, certain complex templates (such as those that use BSicons or that display football kits) assume that the images used in them will follow a specific naming convention. Wikisource also uses a specific naming convention for the source files they transcribe. Second, files that form parts of a whole (such as scans from the same book or large images that are divided into smaller portions due to Commons’ upload size restriction) should follow the same naming convention so that they appear together, in order, in categories and lists. from Commons:File renaming ...Sicherlich talk 14:34, 1 May 2019 (UTC) - (edit conflict) Argh... Didn't saw that one, Sicherlich I'm sorry. But I must say why you didn't remove the rename request if you don't agree with it? We don't usually post commentaries on the file namespace itself, it struck me as a bit weird. In any case, as original uploader you have the right to request rename again. What name you want it to become?--AldnonymousBicara? 14:36, 1 May 2019 (UTC)
- So I take it, its not a set with the first one?--AldnonymousBicara? 14:37, 1 May 2019 (UTC)
- (edit conflict) Okay: the thing is, as you could see in the comment of the request there was/is a conflict between me and the one who requested the renaming. So I did not want to make it an editwar ... well the name as it was was totally fine (as where the names it had before: the file is moved around; quite funny) ...Sicherlich talk 14:39, 1 May 2019 (UTC)
- Its to my understanding not a set by definition of the commons rules, no ...Sicherlich talk 14:39, 1 May 2019 (UTC)
- oh, if you can, maybe it would be good to give it the original file ending: .ogg not .oga? I don't know why it was changed anyways!?! - maybe be mistake? ...Sicherlich talk 14:41, 1 May 2019 (UTC)
- Sicherlich, can you confirm that you want File:De-Gießen2.oga to be renamed into File:De-Gießen2.ogg Under criterion 1 and 6? I don't want to make a second mistake, apparently you have a problem with other user, and I do wish we can resolve this.--AldnonymousBicara? 14:45, 1 May 2019 (UTC)
- Nope :) --> File:De-gießen.ogg ...
- But I don't think you can resolve the issue. The word Gießen or gießen hast the same pronunciation. But Jeuwre, who requested the renaming, wants "his" category to look good so he "needs" it to have an uppercase letter .. when the next comes around with his category where it would need the lowercase one would face the same issue .oO ... you could solve it by uploading the file a second time with a different name. But IMO thats stupid ;) ...Sicherlich talk 14:53, 1 May 2019 (UTC)
- Sicherlich File renamed, tell me if something is wrong with the rename, also, I need to understand what is the difference between capitalized G and lowercase g, I feel stupid as I didn't really understand the purpose. (I always want to know more when its about language).--AldnonymousBicara? 15:03, 1 May 2019 (UTC)
- Thx - you left the .oga but the file works just fine and maybe there was a reason to move it from .ogg to .oga which is hidden to me ;) - so just leave it like it is ;)
- In German nouns start with a nuppercase letter. Verbs, adjective aso not. ...
- Sometimes you have the same word but written different like here: Gießen and gießen - the first one is the city, the 2nd one means to pour. ... There are more words like this. e.g. a city close to Gießen is Singen - singen would mean to sing, an other city is Essen - essen means to eat :)
- in most (?) cases there is no difference in the pronunciation. The only word I know where you have on is Weg and weg - the first one is path, the other one is away ...
- I don't know if there is a english city called like a "normal" noun? Maybe en:Mobile, Alabama? Probably the same pronuncation like mobile right? ... part of it: New York - there is no difference between New and new, right? ...…Sicherlich talk 15:14, 1 May 2019 (UTC)
- Weg and File:DE-weg.ogg :) ...Sicherlich talk 15:16, 1 May 2019 (UTC)
- Sicherlich Originally I do want to rename it to .ogg but it seems .ogg and .oga is one of the same see here (w:Ogg), .ogg, .ogv, .oga, .ogx, .ogm, .spx, .opus work all the same. Tell me if if did something wrong again, I will work it to make it correct :) --AldnonymousBicara? 15:21, 1 May 2019 (UTC)
- If there is no difference then its even more fine for me :) ... i uloaded it (15 years ago! 😲 😂) as .ogg and was moved 12 years later to .oga - but if there is no difference: don't change it now! Its fine! ...Sicherlich talk 15:32, 1 May 2019 (UTC)

Indonesian road sign file names
[edit]I just asked to rename Indonesian road sign files still named in English to Indonesian (using the format "[type of sign in Indonesian] [sign number]"), but you declined the requests without any further explanation. I uploaded newer Indonesian road sign diagrams with Indonesian names that are shorter, and I already considered renaming the others named in English to the new format. Is the current names for the oldest road sign diagrams still appropriate, or the new names I'm requesting doesn't fit the renaming policy? Thanks (Terima kasih).--TagaSanPedroAkoTalk -> 19:41, 19 May 2019 (UTC)
- Why are you TagaSanPedroAko request a naming to the incorrect name? I can speak Indonesian, but you can not.--AldnonymousBicara? 02:04, 20 May 2019 (UTC)
- Yes, I don't speak it either, but how will the new file name in Indonesian incorrect (the Indonesian in the new file names just follows the road sign types found on the source of the files mentioned)? That means I would be uploading the remaining set with English names with this format: "Indonesia road sign ([sign type]) [sign number]", which means we would have an inconsistent naming scheme for Indonesian road signs, with a mix of English and Indonesian file names.--TagaSanPedroAkoTalk -> 05:05, 20 May 2019 (UTC)
- TagaSanPedroAko what set you are talking about? I know road sign did have a set on some wiki, can you post the link here so I could see it? Just for an info, I am not agreeing the file name changes because the changes is blatantly incorrect in Indonesian, but for a set I may give a consideration.--AldnonymousBicara? 05:07, 20 May 2019 (UTC)

- I agree, but the sign types in Indonesian for the new file names of the signs in question are from an official source, Ministerial Regulation 13, series of 2014 by the Ministry of Transportation of Indonesia (I linked it on some of the Indonesian road sign diagrams I uploaded before). Hope this resolves this issue.--TagaSanPedroAkoTalk -> 05:29, 20 May 2019 (UTC)
- I will look into it tonight.--AldnonymousBicara? 05:31, 20 May 2019 (UTC)
- TagaSanPedroAko I can't open the link, and also, I need to tell you this, the government English translation can not be trusted, per the usual mess they made, you need a sworn translator for that.--AldnonymousBicara? 10:38, 20 May 2019 (UTC)

Important message for file movers
[edit]A community discussion has been closed where the consensus was to grant all file movers the suppressredirect
user right. This will allow file movers to not leave behind a redirect when moving files and instead automatically have the original file name deleted. Policy never requires you to suppress the redirect, suppression of redirects is entirely optional.
Possible acceptable uses of this ability:
- To move recently uploaded files with an obvious error in the file name where that error would not be a reasonable redirect. For example: moving "Sheep in a tree.jpg" to "Squirrel in a tree.jpg" when the image does in fact depict a squirrel.
- To perform file name swaps.
- When the original file name contains vandalism. (File renaming criterion #5)
Please note, this ability should be used only in certain circumstances and only if you are absolutely sure that it is not going to break the display of the file on any project. Redirects should never be suppressed if the file is in use on any project. When in doubt, leave a redirect. If you forget to suppress the redirect in case of file name vandalism or you are not fully certain if the original file name is actually vandalism, leave a redirect and tag the redirect for speedy deletion per G2.
The malicious or reckless breaking of file links via the suppressredirect
user right is considered an abuse of the file mover right and is grounds for immediate revocation of that right. This message serves as both a notice that you have this right and as an official warning. Questions regarding this right should be directed to administrators. --Majora (talk) 21:35, 7 November 2019 (UTC)
