User talk:Fuzheado
Hello Andrew, a late welcome at the Commons ;-) and thanks for your photos from the Wikimania. I've some little hints for you.
Could you please put further images directly into one of the galleries here? And it would be more convenient if you write photo by Andrew Lih
instead of only raw text (this is useful for other projects which use the commons images, see the information on meta:Image:Wikimania05-banner.jpg for example. And you could use the Babel tags on your user page for interested people with questions - I always suggest that because Commons is a really international project, not because the boxes are so nice ... I don't even like them ;-)

Hey Andrew, regarding your Wikimania photos - could you put license into these photos, which don't have it yet? The photos are simply great, and I'd love to use them in some Wikinews articles, but I can't do it before you'll choose a license for them. Much appreciated! Datrio 19:50, 4 August 2005 (UTC)
Image:Aeron-seat.jpg listed for deletion
[edit]Image deletion warning | Image:Aeron-seat.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry. If you created this image, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. If the file is up for deletion because it has been superseded by a superior derivative of your work, consider the notion that although the file may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new file. |

Tip: Categorizing images
[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.CategorizationBot (talk) 11:02, 5 May 2010 (UTC)

File:John Brockman portrait.jpg has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.
The file you added has been deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you believe that the deletion was not in accordance with policy, you may request undeletion. (It is not necessary to request undeletion if using VRT; the file will be automatically restored at the conclusion of the process.) Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

Your account will be renamed
[edit]Hello,
The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.
Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called Fuzheado. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name Fuzheado~commonswiki that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name.
Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Yours,
Keegan Peterzell

Changing type sizes on Commons:Simple media reuse guide
[edit]Hi
Thanks very much for trying to fix the section heading font on Commons:Simple media reuse guide, unfortunately what you changed broke the headings for desktop view (made the text really really big) so I've reverted it. I'm not sure what was wrong but please do have another go if you like, happy to check it on different resolution screens if its helpful.
Cheers

New version of File:Coleco-adam.jpg at File:Coleco Adam (adjusted version).jpg
[edit]Hi there,
Thanks for uploading your image File:Coleco-adam.jpg; it seems to have become the standard one for most articles covering that computer!
I thought you ought to know that I've uploaded a slightly tweaked version under the new filename File:Coleco Adam (adjusted version).jpg. If there's anything you don't like about this or the way it was done, feel free to alter the upload page- it's still your image.

We'd love your feedback on Pattypan uploader!
[edit]Hi! We are about to sum up our "Pattypan uploader" project (or, at least, its first stage). Yarl released the new version 0.3 a few weeks ago, and we are looking for user feedback. Thank you very much for being one of the main users and uploaders! Please let us know what works, what can be improved; any other suggestions or comment is very welcome. We are gathering comments in the form of online survey here - we'd be grateful for your feedback. Thank you! --Marta Malina Moraczewska
Copyright status: File:Hongkong-panorama-icc-2013-0808.jpg
[edit]This media may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading File:Hongkong-panorama-icc-2013-0808.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.
If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with GFDL to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with PD-self to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.) If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there. Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you. |

Source of derivative work is not properly indicated: File:GTP-trophy-2018.jpg
[edit]This file may be deleted. |
A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:GTP-trophy-2018.jpg, is a derivative work, containing an "image within an image". Examples of such works would include a photograph of a sculpture, a scan of a magazine cover, or a map that has been altered from the original. In each of these cases, the rights of the creator of the original must be considered, as well as those of the creator of the derivative work.
While the description page states who made this derivative work, it currently doesn't specify who created the original work, so the overall copyright status is unclear. If you did not create the original work depicted in this image, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. Please edit the file description and add the missing information, or the file may be deleted. If you created the original content yourself, enter this information as the source. If someone else created the content, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it, the name and ISBN of the book you scanned it from, or similar. You should also name the author, provide verifiable information to show that the content is in the public domain or has been published under a free license by its author, and add an appropriate template identifying the public domain or licensing status, if you have not already done so. Please add the required information for this and other files you have uploaded before adding more files. If you need assistance, please ask at the help desk. Thank you! |

File tagging File:Margaret Mead at Smithsonian.jpg
[edit]This media was probably deleted.
|
Thanks for uploading File:Margaret Mead at Smithsonian.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the No permission since tag with on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.
Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own). The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded (:File:Margaret Mead at Smithsonian.jpg ) and the above demanded information in your request. |

Welcome, Dear Filemover!
[edit]
Hi Fuzheado, you're now a filemover. When moving files please respect the following advice:
- Use the CommonsDelinker link in the Rename template to order a bot to replace all ocurrences of the old title with the new one. Or, if there was no rename-request, please use the Move & Replace-tab.
- Please leave a redirect behind unless you have a valid reason not to do so. Other projects, including those using InstantCommons, might be using the file even though they don't show up in the global usage. Deleting the redirects would break their file references. Please see this section of the file rename guideline for more information.
- Please know and follow the file rename guidelines.

Important message for file movers
[edit]A community discussion has been closed where the consensus was to grant all file movers the suppressredirect
user right. This will allow file movers to not leave behind a redirect when moving files and instead automatically have the original file name deleted. Policy never requires you to suppress the redirect, suppression of redirects is entirely optional.
Possible acceptable uses of this ability:
- To move recently uploaded files with an obvious error in the file name where that error would not be a reasonable redirect. For example: moving "Sheep in a tree.jpg" to "Squirrel in a tree.jpg" when the image does in fact depict a squirrel.
- To perform file name swaps.
- When the original file name contains vandalism. (File renaming criterion #5)
Please note, this ability should be used only in certain circumstances and only if you are absolutely sure that it is not going to break the display of the file on any project. Redirects should never be suppressed if the file is in use on any project. When in doubt, leave a redirect. If you forget to suppress the redirect in case of file name vandalism or you are not fully certain if the original file name is actually vandalism, leave a redirect and tag the redirect for speedy deletion per G2.
The malicious or reckless breaking of file links via the suppressredirect
user right is considered an abuse of the file mover right and is grounds for immediate revocation of that right. This message serves as both a notice that you have this right and as an official warning. Questions regarding this right should be directed to administrators. --Majora (talk) 21:35, 7 November 2019 (UTC)

File:Wasim-akram-gesf-2018-7878.jpg has been marked as a possible copyright violation.
The file you added may soon be deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please replace the copyvio tag with and have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you disagree that the file is a copyright violation for any other reason, please replace the copyvio tag with a regular deletion request.

Thoughts about posting 1926 to 1977 artwork with no known copyright notice?
[edit]Hi Fuzheado, I've been working recently on uploading images of Public Domain images from the Vanderbilt Fine Arts Gallery. Most are old (pre-1926 inception or artist died 100y+), but there are a small number with inception dates between 1926 and 1977 that were flagged as Public Domain by our former collections manager with the reason "no known copyright". I asked her what criterion she used to make the determination of Public Domain, and she said she searched and there were no copyright notices taken out by the artist's estate. One possible course of action in this situation would be to upload such works with the assumption that if we made a mistake, they would be taken down. However, we are aware of the difficulties of reliably searching copyright registries and don't want to ruin our reputation by unintentionally posting works that are actually still in copyright. Based on your knowledge about uploading artwork images to Commons, do you know what is the typical practice followed by art museums for works in this category? Post in good faith and ask forgiveness when mistaken, or be more cautious and don't post at all? Baskaufs (talk) 21:58, 13 December 2021 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading File:Jerry Coyne, American professor of biology at the University of Chicago.jpg.
Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded (:File:Jerry Coyne, American professor of biology at the University of Chicago.jpg ) and the above demanded information in your request. |

PanoViewer error
[edit]Hello Fuzheado,
I have a problem with PanoViewer and unfortunately I don't know who to ask. It's about this picture:
Leipzig Specks Hof 2022 - 360°×180° spherical panorama of atrium B
The error message is: "Database error (found 0 results; should be 1) No pannellum config return"
Is the error known? What can I do or what am I doing wrong? Who can I contact?
Many thanks in advance for your answer --Joachim Köhler (talk) 11:20, 18 September 2022 (UTC)
- Hey there hopefully you found it works now? Yes, I also had that weird error message for a while but it went away. - Fuzheado (talk) 14:41, 10 October 2022 (UTC)
- Hello, the cause I found after trying is a plus sign "+" in the file name. If you avoid this, then it works. Best regards --Joachim Köhler (talk) 18:42, 26 October 2022 (UTC)

Source of derivative work is not properly indicated: File:2020-02 Smithsonian sample image - Knowledge Graph - 2021 Q1.png
[edit]This file may be deleted. |
A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:2020-02 Smithsonian sample image - Knowledge Graph - 2021 Q1.png, is a derivative work, containing an "image within an image".
Thank you! |

As I have tested the panoramas on my PC before and as sphere panoramas uploaded before this date still work, I have absolutely no idea why it does not work anymore at the moment. (Note: PanoViewer calls did not work at all for a few days from 29 May).
- Example correct rendering (uploaded 17 April):

Flickypedia soft launch and a huge thank you
[edit]Dear fellow Commons photographer,
I hope this message finds you well. As you might already know, the Flickr Foundation has been busy creating a new Flickr-to-Commons bridge (“Flickypedia”) this year. After a successful demo at the GLAM Wiki Conference in Montevideo, the Flickr Foundation team is now inviting all members of the Commons Photographers User Group to be the first to review their alpha, reporting any technical issues or other feedback via the Flickypedia project talk page.
At the same time, this message is an opportunity for me to thank you for your trust and support over the past couple of years. Since 2017, we've grown into being one of the largest user groups in the Wikimedia universe. I've tremendously enjoyed interacting with all of our members when it came to joint photowalks at Wikimanias, virtual Zoom meetings where we covered a wide variety of photography topics, as well as our annual “Most memorable shot of the year”, among many other events. As I'm not running for an official position in our current board election, this will be my last message on behalf of the user group to you. Thanks for all the happy moments we shared together over the years! I hope you'll continue creating free images for the millions of people we serve through Wikipedia and Commons.

How to ask for speedy-delete of an empty category
[edit]When you want to ask for speedy-delete of an empty category, best practice is to mark it with C2 (if it would be OK to re-create it in the future, given that appropriate content becomes available) or C1 (if it is an inappropriate category name that should not be reused). In particular, this is better practice than just blanking the category page. ("C1" and "C2" come from Commons:Criteria for speedy deletion). Jmabel ! talk 00:47, 17 December 2023 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading File:Photomicrograph of a flea 5229656650 fea4ceb3a9 b d.jpg.
Thank you. |

Can you answer some questions related to the MET?
[edit]I've been working on diffusing Category:Department of European Paintings, Metropolitan Museum of Art, and there are some things I'm not sure of. Might you be able to help? I'll just go ahead and ask about one, but feel free to say if you don't feel comfortable answering.
Does the Department of European Paintings include all European countries? Some of the European countries in Category:Paintings in the Metropolitan Museum of Art by country aren't listed under the department category. Ones not listed include (but are not limited to) Belgian, Swedish, Swiss, and Portuguese. Russia is a bicontinental country, but although the Russian category is under Asian paintings, there are paintings by Russian artists under the European category.
I've come across some other things that may be general art questions as opposed to MET-specific, but I'll leave those for now. Just getting some input on the one I asked would be a big help.
Thanks. -- Auntof6 (talk) 15:16, 7 May 2024 (UTC)

Letter from Selena at the Village Pump
[edit]Hi Fuzheado, I hope you're fine. Since you participated at the Commons meeting at Wikimania, I wanted to flag a potentially interesting discussion at the Village Pump, started by Selena Deckelmann about finding a better way of supporting Commons. Maybe you can consider, if you have time, to share your thoughts? Thanks in advance! Sannita (WMF) (talk) 14:18, 16 September 2024 (UTC)
