Per nudity: "Please note that low-quality images with no realistic educational use nor a purpose within the Wikimedia projects may be deleted." This is a low quality image and can easily be replacable. Plenty of other images can be used to illustrate nudity, if that is the intent. The same goes for illustrations of the location. Incorrect license Fossiladder13 (talk) 21:04, 29 September 2023 (UTC)
- To clarify FA13's point here a recent paper published in GeologyToday, a Wiley publication (direct link Wikipedia Library link) claimed that this illustration was under a CC BY 4.0 license. However the post on the website from which the image originates from includes no reference to any kind of license, and never appears to have done so [1], and a 2019 post on the website states that unless otherwise noted, the images published on the website are under a CC-BY-NC license. I am inclined to think the authors of the GeologyToday paper goofed here, and the images are under a NC license, and thus incompatible with commons. Hemiauchenia (talk) 21:19, 29 September 2023 (UTC)

- Ok, then what was the point of a ‘discussion’ if the ultimate responsibility and authority is left to the VRT system? This seems like an organised space to ridicule me, when I have followed the correct process. The only reasoning behind this is a ‘hunch’ or a ‘suspicion’ that I have done something wrong with this upload when that is clearly incorrect. Carey3146 (talk) 07:39, 29 September 2023 (UTC)

Selfpromotion/selfies. Use of Commons as personal image host service. The user is the artist, who tried to create his own article on eswiki with a sockpuppet.[2] --MexTDT (talk) 08:22, 29 September 2023 (UTC)
- Maybe, but that doesn't necessarily mean that the artist is not notable. These images look like real art (big oil-on-canvas paintings) and the exhibition seems quite large. We need to have more information about the artist and/or the notability of the art gallery showing his works. PaterMcFly (talk) 09:38, 29 September 2023 (UTC)
- Hello, I create this page about Liqen's art because I have a project related to his works, so I think is necesary his wiki. but I'm not the artist, of course! I get confused on how to create an article and should not put my user as "Liqen Artista" I thought that it would be the name of the article. All the images and his work are very real and amazing! So, I think a solution if you can help me is to Change my user name with my name, in order to create his article! Can you please help me with this? I can give all the info you want! thank you in advance! Liqen Artista (talk) 21:29, 29 September 2023 (UTC)
- I'm the same person of the another article "liqen", Harena, I created another because of the same problem of the confusion about my user name. The best solution for all this, I think is to remove this user Liqen Artista, and only left the another with my name! Harena, there I will upload the images! If you can help me with this, please!! I just want to write about this artist :(. Thank you! Liqen Artista (talk) 21:34, 29 September 2023 (UTC)
- Timeline:
- 01:17 27 September 2023: User Liquen Artista is registered at eswiki.[3]
- From 21:17, 27 September 2023 to 10:34, 28 September 2023: User Liqen Artista ( local | logs | global ) uploads several images, including selfies, of the artist known as Liquen.[4]
- 05:18 28 September 2023: Sockpuppet Harena LM (as confirmed above) is registered at eswiki, very likely to avoid a swift permanent block for conflict of interest and promotion.[5]
- 06:48 28 September 2023: Sockpuppet Harena LM creates Liqen.
- 06:53 28 September 2023: Harena LM is warned about the impending deletion of Liqen.[6]
- 07:53 28 September 2023: Harena LM starts to look for solutions to stop deletion of article.[7]
- 09:16 28 September 2023: Harena LM makes a petition to restore the article, lying about being the artist by saying he is a different person who admires Liqen's work.[8]
- 19:14 28 September 2023: Once more, looks for advice and sounds very eager to keep adding stuff to his own biography, not if, when it gets restored. This is the last contribution of either accounts.[9]
- 21:23 28 September 2023: Restoration of article denied.[10]
- Since the user only has had the sole purpose of using Wikipedia en español for self promotion and his contributions have been only to create and defend his own biography and his picture files and nothing else, then his uploads fall into criteria F10: Personal photos by non-contributors.
- I really don’t understand Wikipedia Commons. Even though you have certain criteria for deletion, all that matters in the end are copyright issues; as long as someone gives you written permission or doesn’t violate copyright, anyone can use the project as his/her free mirror to a DeviantArt or Pinterest galleries or to insult and harass other users without consequences. MexTDT (talk) 10:13, 1 October 2023 (UTC)
- @Liqen Artista The first point you need to clarify is whether the artist is "notable" (=known well enough to have an article in Wikipedia). Every wiki has it's own rules there, but generally, that means that the artist must have had exhibitions in well-known locations, have had publications over him and/or a very large social media coverage (in the order of Millions of followers). There seems to be a public exhibition visible in the images, but I can't find any information about that exhibition center.
- Can you provide more information about any of the previous points? Additionally, if you're not the artist, you need to contact COM:VRT with a written approval from the artist that he agrees to putting the works under a CC-BY license. PaterMcFly (talk) 10:37, 2 October 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you!! Where should I clarify this? All is on internet, I will contact COM: VRT but now I only want to delete all the photos in Liqen Artista and event Delete the User! As I have another as Harena, I want to use only Harena User because I can contribute to more thnings and it is my user, no Liqen Artista, I created Liqen Artista because I thought it was the article but No. Delete LIQEN ARTISTA, please! Thank you <3 Liqen Artista (talk) 23:04, 2 October 2023 (UTC)
- Users cannot be deleted, just locked. But that doesn't really matter much here, just make sure that if you don't want to use the Liqen Artista name, then don't do so. You're still logged in as that user. PaterMcFly (talk) 11:43, 3 October 2023 (UTC)

False claims and dubious license. Clearly a scan of a pre-digital black & white photo, not a 2023 photo as claimed by uploader. Reverse image search shows that the image has been online at hdimagegallery.net since 2015. -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 17:00, 29 September 2023 (UTC)

The file is so much inaccurate (see the discussion page) that it seems that it was created in intentionally misleading way to misinform about the real popularity of sites and thus promote the Russian network VKontakte. Oleksiy.golubov (talk) 11:09, 29 September 2023 (UTC)
- Weak oppose
- There are indeed some peculiarities with this map, especially concerning the claimed popularity of VK. I encountered a similar issue when I had to correct the assertion that VK was the most popular social network in Bulgaria, as it was not accurate. I strongly suspect that this may also be the case for Germany and Finland, and the situation in Ukraine appears to have changed significantly as well.
- However, rather than immediately advocating for deletion, I believe our primary focus should be on rectifying these inaccuracies. We have the opportunity to make the map more reliable by providing credible sources to support the data, just as I did in the past.
- One significant concern I have is the map's lack of updates over the years. Social networks are known for their dynamic nature, and it's crucial to keep such a resource up to date. I might be more inclined towards supporting deletion on these grounds—that we might not have the necessary resources or reliable sources to maintain the map accurately.
- Regarding the suspicion that the map might have been created in bad faith, it's essential to investigate any such allegations thoroughly. If concrete evidence of malicious intent emerges, then deletion could be a more appropriate course of action.
- In summary, the question we should be asking is whether we can fix the map's inaccuracies. If it's possible, let's work towards that goal. If not, we might need to consider deletion. These are my two cents on the matter.

Google translate as "The photos are scanned from the paper original of the owner who gave them to me to publish, and I use Linux to crop and clean them up. Lacks a license for home country. Even if we added {{PD-Liechtenstein-old-unknown}}, it fails this clause: Note that this applies only if a reliable source is cited to indicate that the author is not publicly known; just not knowing who the author is not enough to qualify the image as public domain. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 22:52, 29 September 2023 (UTC)
- Keep Historisches Lexikon extracts files from the Liechtenstein national archives and attributes credit where it available as per many of their other images. If the image does not provide credit on it, then it is not known. Liechtenstein law does not require a burden of proof. TheBritinator (talk) 12:09, 30 September 2023 (UTC)
- Keep I don't think the reliable source part is part of Commons policy or their law. Just that the author can't be "generally known". The source of this is the state archives, with an explicit credit to them, so they apparently did not name a photographer when giving it out. I'm fine with assuming "unknown" (which their law uses, not "anonymous"). If this was published in 1925, it should be fine. However, I'm not sure I see a clause in their law about limiting unpublished works (i.e. 70 years from creation if not published in that time). So if this was a long-unpublished work, there may be an issue. Their law looks like it conforms to EU principles in general, but maybe not all the details like that, which would have removed all doubt. So I guess the question is how the archives got it -- may have been considered published at the time of donation if not before. I'm not sure the possibility of being unpublished until recently is a significant doubt at this point, but I think that would be the only reason to delete. Carl Lindberg (talk) 16:53, 1 October 2023 (UTC)
Kept: The Liechtenstein National Archives can be considered a reliable source, even if the name of the photographer isn't known. With these conditions in mind, the photo being first published in 1925 puts it in the public domain. ReneeWrites (talk) 12:08, 23 November 2023 (UTC)

- I don't know, but I not see any reason how does author(s) of mural even could sue any user of this photo, because:
- Mural is derivative work based on
CC-BY 4.0
photo, and according to license terms[1] even derivative work could not be converted into non-commercial work and should be shared with preserving terms ofCC-BY 4.0
, and a photo of this mural, as a derivative work of this mural, also should preserv terms ofCC-BY 4.0
— so, mural author can't claim any commercial restrictions on this photo and mural (even if mural would be an artwork separate from building/wall) in any way. - Building architect could not claim no-FOP violation here either, because building is not an object of this photo (there is only part of single plain wall which is not an unique architectural work, but just a wall of a simple shapes typical structure) — the object on the photo is mural (that is covering the plain wall) de facto licensed under terms of
CC-BY 4.0
, due to being derivative ofCC-BY 4.0
licensed original photo of pilot.
- Mural is derivative work based on
N.B. In 2022-2023, there are new changes introduced with the Law of Ukraine №2811-IX on FOP legal status in Ukraine: now if making a photo of architectural works in public space (without asking permissions) resulted photo should be under terms sorta like a "free for non-commercial use, with architect(s) attribution" (very similar toCC-BY-NC
and/orCC-BY-NC-SA
terms, but there is no mention of any Creative Commons licenses in the text of this law).[2][3]
But, as I said above, actual photo is not a "photo of architectural work", so FOP is out of scope here (because a non uniquie/simple shape part of architectural work is "covered" by mural).
P.S. That is how I understand actual state of all the things related to this exact photo of mural.- Other photos, where building would be shown as a main object and mural would be just a part of scene might(?) be a case for no-FOP violation.
- The only thing I missed according to this file is to attribute mural authors on the file description page (as there is only MoD of Ukraine atrributed yet) — this would be fixed. Appsoft4 (talk) 01:26, 19 November 2023 (UTC)
- I don't know, but I not see any reason how does author(s) of mural even could sue any user of this photo, because:

- The Liechtenstein law does seem to say if the author is generally unknown (not using the term "anonymous"), the term is 70 years from publication. The author would have had to become generally known within that 70 year period. The old, pre-1999 law was 50pma, with 50 years from publication for anonymous (not "unknown") works. The 1999 law was retroactive for works from other EEA countries, but unsure about their own works -- seems explicitly non-retroactive for those[13]. The easy way to disprove the unknown or anonymous claim is to show a named author somewhere (and it would have needed to be known long ago). It would be nice to know the original source of this image, as it seems to be scanned from an old publication. The source credits it to "LI LA", which not sure but may be the Liechtenstein Landesarchiv, but not sure where to go from there. Given its nature, which may have been a legislative portrait, I am fine assuming anonymous. There is nothing in their law which requires a reliable source; that seems an overreach on the tag. Keep for me. Carl Lindberg (talk) 16:31, 1 October 2023 (UTC)

- The uploader claims it is from a family photo album in their possession and that the image was originally taken prior to World War II. That it was taken with an iPhone per the metadata seems to support that claim. Per COM:POLAND photos can be complicated; if the photographer is known, then it's 70 years from the date of their death; otherwise 70 years after being made public. If this is pre-WWII, then it would be more than 70 years since the photo was taken/printed, but if there's information about the photographer available that would possibly extend the date. @Mrtonder can you provide more details? —Tcr25 (talk) 20:34, 29 September 2023 (UTC)
