This must be a joke. One of the people's heads substituted by a cat picture, 3/4 of the picture amateurishly blurred, the result being a horrible quality image. Worst of all: If people or objects are not o.k. with being published here, then don't do so in the first place. --217.239.11.59 11:09, 28 July 2022 (UTC)
- Delete It doesn't really matter if they people in the photograph are OK with it being published here. That said, the image serves zero educational purpose and Commons isn't a personal file host. So the image should be deleted on those grounds alone if nothing else. --Adamant1 (talk) 11:47, 28 July 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks. We agree on the goal. However, I also think that personality rights do matter a lot. Commons has the responsibility to protect people's rights, and even more so for people who are currently in a war situation. --217.239.11.59 12:04, 28 July 2022 (UTC)

- Keep This file was initially tagged by Taichi as no source (No source since) Wilfredor. It was a handmade painting made from all the photos that are on this page with a personal interpretation of the face of Carmen Clemente Travieso. As it is an interpretation and not a copy of any of her images, it should not be considered a copyright violation. I did this because I was part of a painting Wikiproject among several other users to be able to cover articles with my own paintings (talk) 13:28, 28 July 2022 (UTC)

High likelihood of Copyright infringement: Despite claims that the image is from the 1800s and therefore in the public domain, image has clear digital artifacts, actual source (linked as Immediate source) is a Facebook post and stated source is a living person who I cannot find in the linked original source. Chemistry-related gallery pages
[edit]Over a month ago I asked about this issue on WikiProject Chemistry talk page with only one answer (Leyo). I can only repeat my motivation here and request the deletion of 39 galleries about chemical substances. All that I stumbled upon curating WD data.
- Meta-Xylene
- Ortho-Xylene
- Para-Xylene
- Potassium ferricyanide
- Toluene
- Dinitrogen tetroxide
- Pentane
- Paracetamol
- Octane
- Morphine
- Methane
- Menthol
- Luminol
- Malonic acid
- Acetic acid
- Pyruvic acid
- Tartaric acid
- Abscisic acid
- Xylitol
- Cocaine
- Ibogaine
- Imidazole
- Heroin
- Heptane
- Gefitinib
- Galactose
- LSD
- Carbon dioxide
- NaCl
- Butane
- Acetic anhydride
- Berberine
- Epinephrine
- Amphetamine
- Anthracene
- Aspartame
- Acetone
- Ethyne
- Citric acid
Such galleries are a relic of the past. Only a few of them had any meaningful edit in the last 10 years, many were not edited (except bots and technical edits) after creation in the late 2000s. Also, only a few have any meaningful arrangement of content, most have 1–5 random (from present point of view) files. These galleries are unmaintained, have no use and no educational purpose. Moreover, the sections that exists in some galleries seems to be much better reflected in subcategories – like Category:Chemical structure diagrams of acetic acid, Category:Chemical structure of methane. In other words, with the resources we have, it is much more constructive to maintain categories, with limiting the number of files by removing redundant duplicates (what we do anyway on a regular basis) or creating additional subcategories. Maintaining galleries in the same time – that introduce no additional advantages – is just counterproductive. The existence of galleries was not a big problem in the past (these pages just hung in categories and were not visited) and wouldn't be right now, however, here comes Wikidata. In WD items the main sitelink to Commons will always be a page, not a category. In many situations it may be correct, but in this case – it is not. Sitelinks from Wikidata are exported to other Wikimedia projects and outside Wikimedia. And what the readers get from it? A link to a crappy page that was not edited for about 10 years and have a bunch of random files. They may not know that there are also galleries, that there are more files about this topic. Even if they know, these pages are the worst showpiece of this project. Wostr (talk) 17:21, 28 July 2022 (UTC)
- If your concern is how WikiData displays it, the logical fix might not be to delete what you don't want displayed, but to advocate there to change what is prioritised when displaying commons information... Effeietsanders (talk) 17:56, 28 July 2022 (UTC)
- If the problem was only WD then I would try to find a solution there and i wouldn't bother here (despite the fact that changes in WD in this regard are, in my opinion, not possible, as I tried once to change it). In fact, what shows up in WD is just a Commons problem. Wostr (talk) 09:38, 29 July 2022 (UTC)
- Deleted all the galleries. An example of the non-maintenance is Carbon dioxide, where the gallery is titled “Photos”. However, only 1 out of 15 images is actually a photograph. --Leyo 21:43, 28 July 2022 (UTC)
- Delete Delete all, we have categories of these chemicals which are used nowadays. — Chem Sim 2001 (talk) 13:32, 30 July 2022 (UTC)
- Delete all. Categories display what we have automatically. Galleries must be manually currated, but there's no clear basis for that task (some have many equivalent rather than a variety "best of" each style or type of detail) and nobody seems to care enough to do it. Nor are they updated when new or better images become available. They therefore they continue to decay. DMacks (talk) 03:35, 13 August 2022 (UTC)

Deleted: all the drawings, per nomination, as works of Stern; also deleted the book PDF file. Kept several photographs which I could positively identify as the work of photographers who died over 70 years ago, deleted the others. The photographers were not "anonymous", they were actually summarily credited at the end of the book text, unfortunately without telling us who did which photographs. Many of these photographs were also produced as collectible cards however, with credits, so I could identify them. There are more cards out there which I could not find or that are not on the internet, so the probability that the photographers are credited on such a card is high. And that is all that is needed for the works not to be anonymous accd. to the German law valid for all works before July 1995. The Stern drawings can be restored in 2025, the photographs and the book PDF in 2039 with {{PD-old-assumed}} (the book was first published in 1918, this is a later 1919 edition). --Rosenzweig τ 09:32, 6 September 2022 (UTC)

Fake image taken from untrustworthy russian site liveinternet.ru. This is black-and-white version of Giuseppe Sarti's portrait by Salvatore Tonci: File:Giuseppe Sarti (1729-1802).jpg Hoa binh (talk) 06:28, 28 July 2022 (UTC)
- Keep There's zero evidence that the image is a fake whatever that means. There's a chance it's just another version of the portrait. That is something that happens, people make other versions of portraits. It's not really a reason to delete something. Especially not just because it's hosted on a Russian website. Really, save the anti-Russian nonsense for another platform. --Adamant1 (talk) 11:55, 28 July 2022 (UTC)

- It looks like it is a misattribution by the Russian website. The website I now link to has the following information: "Portrait painted in 1873 by Cesare Mussini, after the original painting by Salvatore Tonci (Modern Gallery of the Pitti Palace) DR." It recognizes that it is a copy of the first painting, and you cleverly recognized the error. Some errors sit for years in Commons, thank you for fixing it. -RAN (talk) 19:19, 29 July 2022 (UTC)

Author is not found in a Google search. - Keep PD-RO-photo. Romania doesn't award copyright to portrait photographs and if it is "art" it gets 5 years protection. This was taken in 1967.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ) (talk • contribs) 23:30, 19 February 2022 (UTC)
- Delete File:Veta biris.jpg The image is clearly not from 1990 as she appears to be far too old for a 41 year old. A similar image (possibly from the same photo session) was posted online in 2019,[6] suggesting this one is from when she was in her 60s. For this file the 1990 date added by RAN and the corresponding PD tag are invalid. An alternative case for retention must be made. From Hill To Shore (talk) 03:27, 20 February 2022 (UTC)
- Delete The first one is an album cover, not just a photograph, so it is subject to the regular law, which is pma 70. The second is a portrait and may or may not be PD. The copyright period is five years from "issuance" -- publication -- and we have no evidence of when it was first published. . Jim . . . (Jameslwoodward) (talk to me) 13:05, 20 February 2022 (UTC)

- Comment Many of these images are cropped from music record covers available at www.discogs.com. As noted by Jameslwoodward in a previous discussion above, record covers are protected with 70 pma. I have included some more detailed findings for each image below this comment. From Hill To Shore (talk) 22:44, 22 November 2022 (UTC)

These images do not seem to be own work. Each is smaller than Facebook, blurry or poor quality and a map with no source data.

The photo was given a CC-BY-NC-ND license to the uploader by NPG, but was tagged a CC-BY-SA license here, which is clearly invalid. While it's possible that this photo is in the UK public domain, there are serious doubts -- this comes from a negative (one of at least three) given to the NPG by Bassano in 1974. It became PD in the UK in 1989 due to their older law, but was definitely restored in 1996 when the UK implemented the EU directive. It was therefore restored by the URAA, if it had been previously published without notice. If the photo was published in 1938, the year it was taken, then it has since gone back into the UK public domain in 2009. However, since this comes from a negative, there is no indication this particular one (if any) was actually published at the time. NPG photos which come from silver gelatin prints are easier to diagnose, since those show publication then. If this was not published then, then likely this was not made available to the public until at least 1974, in which case its UK copyright won't expire until at least 2045, and the NPG copyright claim is quite valid. If it can be shown that this work was never "made available to the public" until 2009, then it became PD then (but would then be under U.S. copyright as an unpublished work, not via URAA, until 2059). The NPG started cataloguing the Bassano works in 2002, but it may have been "made available" to at least some of the public long before then. The only chance for this to be OK for Commons is to show publication in the 1930s or 1940s, and *also* demonstrate simultaneous publication in the United States to avoid the URAA, neither of which is shown. Carl Lindberg (talk) 12:37, 28 July 2022 (UTC)
- As per previous discussion, the current license is invalid, as based on a creative commons license, it would need to be cc-by-nc-nd-3.0 which immediately puts the image into the CSD category. The photo was taken (or published?) in 1938 as per the NPG website but if it was only published much later as noted above, I think the 70 years starts from that point? I can't clearly see evidence of this being PD and we can't fall back on any license issued by the NPG. Bungle (talk • contribs) 15:51, 29 July 2022 (UTC)
- The 70 years starts from "making available to the public", which includes publication and broadcast and public display, unless not "made available" within 70 years of creation. Bassano would sell prints of some of their photos, which would have started that clock in 1938, but you'd also assume that some of their negatives were not selected for use, so those may have remained unpublished until the NPG made them available. There is no way to know which situation this one was in, to me. It could be a little hard to define exactly when the NPG made them available to the public as well, but there aren't any good options for us if it was unpublished at least to 1974. [edit]colorization probably not original print. may not be pd SecretName101 (talk) 18:42, 28 July 2022 (UTC)
- Keep. The image is old enough (published in the 1860s) that the likelihood that it was colorized when that colorization would attract still-current copyright is vanishingly small. COM:PCP says we should delete if there is significant doubt. I am not seeing significant doubt here. IronGargoyle (talk) 15:49, 21 November 2022 (UTC)

Здесь стоит сказать, что фотографии с автором Sady Pridonia уже неоднокретно удалялись с Викисклада: Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by Наталия Потопаева, Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by Namira1. — — Redboston 05:55, 28 July 2022 (UTC)

Should probably be transferred back to Wikipedia under the fair use criteria - the image is definitely not PD-100 and as it was taken in the 1940s or even 1950s (perhaps late 30s at a stretch) PD-100 does not apply. I added a comment to this effect over on Wikipedia. It is unlikely that this image would raise any copyright issues as the photographer is probably long forgotten and almost unidentifiable (there's nothing in the image to pinpoint any specific school or location), but the mis-dating and wrong licensing do need addressing. - There is a very comparable/like for like image already on Commons as well which could be substituted for this, see File:Hyde Grammar School netball 1949 (cropped).jpg - so perhaps it's best to just delete the image outright as its status cannot be verified, under Fair Use rules it can be swapped with the Hyde Grammar image, and there isn't a way to check who took it or whether it is PD or not. This photograph is an excerpt or screenshot of the following publication created in 1989., This means it does not satisfy the remit domain in India as tagged. Lil-unique1 (talk) 19:01, 28 July 2022 (UTC)
- But I have question here in this Wikipedia commons file it has been stated by file creator that it is not his own work then why it is tagged for deletion. Srimant ROSHAN (talk) 02:11, 29 July 2022 (UTC)
- If someone takes a picture of something then they own the copyright to that picture and can decide if it is made available for use on Wikipedia. The screenshot is from a booklet/file which cannot be determined if the person who uploaded the file owns the copyright to that image. You can't just get a book or publication, take picture or screenshot if it and upload it without permission from the person who authored said publication. Lil-unique1 (talk) 16:10, 29 July 2022 (UTC)

- Keep The renewal was for the first edition. This file is the second and revised edition from 1960 which did not get a copyright renewal. De728631 (talk) 15:25, 28 July 2022 (UTC)

- Surely the second edition, would contain material from the first (which is copyright)? ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 09:12, 31 July 2022 (UTC)
- Keep. Absent very unusual circumstances, a second edition would be considered a derivative of the first edition, so it still important to look to the copyright of the first edition. The copyright for the first edition was not properly renewed. The listed proprietor is “the American Museum of Natural History,” yet the renewal is given under the name of “Junius B. Bird.” As Mr. Bird did not own the copyright, he had not legal authority to renew the copyright; thus, the renewal is invalid. Neither edition, thus, was (properly) renewed. TE(æ)A,ea.
