The logo includes modified and embellished text, and graphic elements. Sufficient effort (from an Australian perspective) is likely to have been expended and the logo is potentially sufficiently original to qualify for copyright protection in its country of origin. I'm not sure what the difference is between Commons and Wikapedia.org. I use Wikipedia constantly. I thought commons was a version of Wikipedia for the general public.
There is a lot of information on this site with several mediums so please be patient with me. I believe the Commons File:0 66z9NyQFCBMTr9dG.jpg was robo flagged. Yeah, that was a big mess and can be deleted.
I would like to have some clarity on the difference. My interests in Wikipedia is not personal alone, but community-based :-) Although my expertise is in the realm of Communications thinking & networking - with a non-biased facts-based approach. Knowledgable.

Low quality, very low resolution (106 × 212 pixels, file size: 28 KB). Poor color. It looks gray compared to the other images and there is no gray version of the controller -- only black, white, red purple and woodgrain, making this look like a poorly colored white image. There is a high resolution console image with controllers showing in the same Intellivision Amico section and its article already and a detailed description in the text. Commons: This user has spilled over from English Wiki, where they are upset that the Gif image they inserted into the article has been removed by multiple editors (4 and counting) as overtly promotional. The image nominated is an extraction from the same gif, hence it's resolution. As the original GIF has permissions, the extraction itself is fine and is being used explicitly to illustrate the controller outside of the promotional content of the gif. All complaints about the image's quality, resolution or color stem from the fact that that is the way the GIF shows the controller. Frankly this should be speedy closed if Commons has such a criteria. There is no valid rational for deletion given, and this is spill over of a English Wiki content dispute. Regarding The Ferret's comment: He should listen to WP:AGF, rather than make comments like "If your negativity doesn't improve, I will improve it for you." The gif he speaks of was about first time vistors removing a gif without discussion. The gif had been approved by admin several months ago with no challenges until a bunch of guys just showed up together, one with no viewable edit history. I said I wanted the admin present to decide if it should stay or be removed. I did not complain about the admin decision to remove it. This issue, however, is about a decision by others to use a poor quality static image that is unnecessary and its discussion should be considered as WP:AGF. To tie the two together is to assume bad faith. If they really want such an image of the controller, I don't see why they can't obtain a high resolution one in the same way the console image and animated gif were obtained. Comment: Is the "approval" you're referring to on the gif a VRT ticket? That just means Commons won't delete it for not having a verifiable license because you directly verified the license with a volunteer who may or may not have had the adminstrator user group on their account. Admins on English Wikipedia (who may not be the same users as Commmons admins) don't generally make "approvals" on article content, that's usually handled by editors coming to consensus via either edits or (often) discussion, and in this case I think it's clear that the consensus is not to use the gif and that the derivative png is an adequate replacement. (I, for instance, removed the gif because it read as clearly promotional to me and did not realize I was going to get pulled into a contentious discussion. When I got pinged for that discussion I civilly shared my thoughts, which is how Wikipedia is supposed to work.) You can't just strongarm your way into your preferred outcome by misapplying policies and processes like these. Further, referencing assuming good faith here falls apart a bit when that comment was made after a long spate of uncivil behavior (both generally and directly aimed at users who disagreed with you, which you continued after that point anyway). (ferret's remark might have been a bit WP:BITE-y but it wasn't a remark made in a vacuum.) Anyhow, to get back on the topic of the deletion nomination and not the cross-wiki content dispute, I mostly wanted to make this comment purely to notify others who may be party to this discussion that "admin approval" the nominator is referring to for the gif this image is a derivative of is probably referring to having the license verified via a VRT ticket. - Purplewowies (talk) 22:55, 23 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Purplewowies does not understand. I worked with admins in the help section to get that image and gif approved and they discussed the value for acceptability with me. This is just a distraction by them so why do they continue to discuss it? The Ferret's reaction and Sergecross73's reaction ("There's zero rationale or support for just removing everything entirely. Please stop. Your comments are increasingly unconstructive, and more about being mad about not doing things strictly your way") seem pretty extreme to me for a disagreement about a single low res, poorly colored image and is it a coincidence they all show up at the same time and that they gang up on me? Sergecross73's and The Ferret's comments were in succession. Seems like a bit of a gangup, don't they? Again [[wikipedia:WP:AGF|assuming good faith] is reasonable and they seem to all over-react to being disagreed with after showing up as a gang out of nowhere or from the complaints of similarly pop-in editors repeatedly showing up who are affiliated with a bizarre reddit group who has been trolling the article and trying to use their reddit group posts as citations. Also, besides WP:AGF, remember: WP:FILESIZE "images should be uploaded at high resolution whether or not this seems "necessary" for the use immediately contemplated". Comment: "Revenge" might have been a charged term even though I tried to disclaim that I was using it to explain that I couldn't figure out a better concise way to phrase what I meant. I'll strike it from my !vote to make clear I wasn't going for charged and elaborate here on what I meant. Your opinion appears to have been clearly for most of the dispute that the gif should be used, whereas the alternative prior to this creation would have been no image at all. This image was in some ways a sort of compromise between the two; it's completely sufficient for its use and a higher quality image does not presently exist. I'm sorry, but that is in no way true. I said I was willing to let admin decide if the gif could stay or not. Of course, I've explained that before, but you don't really care, right? At no point have I been hostile toward you. I removed with the gif in the article, and began a conversation once you reverted it, as is standard. I created a still upon the request of another editor (which is why you are mistaken on the above point (a)). I lightened said image after you pointed out it was darker than it should be. I disagreed with this deletion request and gave a clear reasoning. Lastly, I pointed out that you were mistaken in regards to Wikipedia and Commons policies. Never once have I done any of this with any aggression. The same cannot be said about your responses. How about claiming I had a COI from the beginning without even talking to me or checking to see that I have explained I don't have one in the past? That does make you look a little suspicious of being aligned with the reddit group as they like to try to get me out of the way using that, just like you guys. In fact, the Reddit group trolls are the only ones who have ever started that claim in the past year, making you look especially suspicious in joining that group. Maybe you're complicit or maybe just an unwitting patsy. Like Sergecross73 basically saying that not letting the reddit group post poor citations makes me look like a COI. If you look at talk policies, it says the same policies apply there as in the article, regardless of whether most people read it or not. The Ferret seemed quick to try to reverse removal of a poorly cited Reddit group troll rant. Is it also possible to report users? It is not true at all what D-Kuru claims and his false claims are very annoying. No photo I've posted has been edited contrary to what D-Kuru claims: "This deletion request also applies to all other uploads by the same user since they all have the same problem". For example, look at this image https://www.samsungmobilepress.com/fs/?keyword=Galaxy+S21+FE+5G and this one I uploaded, https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S21#/media/Bestand:Samsung_Galaxy_S21_FE_5G_(Olive).jpeg. Exactly the same, so that I would have edited these images is nonsense. All I did with Samsung Galaxy S21 5G Series.png was put the original images side by side so they could be placed as one image. This is not an edit of the original photos and can therefore remain. Again I would like to ask the question whether it is also possible to report a user for unnecessary reports and false claims. I have now discovered that apparently the website is not copyrighted per File:FlightPath default banner logo.png, I struck my previous rationale though I think that the image's file page should have made it clear if the website was copyrighted because it seemed like an obvious copyvio. I (the uploader) have frankly never heard of that rule applying in the Netherlands. If it's any help, it's a tabernacle in a chapel that is public accessible and that everyone can just freely walk into during all office hours. I have unfortunately no idea what the age of this object is, if that would be any help? It looks pretty new, but the chapel is pretty old so that could be deceptive. Just for my information, what kind of copyright law would that be? Are we sure this law exists in the Netherlands? And wouldn't that then apply to ALL artwork that you in churches and chapels? Okay addition; I just read the article/section that you linked to. It says that artworks (I'm summarizing) are okay if you photograph them "as they appear" in the public place that they are located in. I guess the tabarnacle could fall under sculpture/engraving. As I said; it's located in a chapel that is publically accessible, and I just photographed it as it's standing there in it's natural surroundings. The chapel does not charge any fee, there isn't even a guard; the door is always open and most times you are in there alone. I guess theoretically they could "deny access based on private law" even though no such rules exist right now that I'm aware of; but technically I guess you are on private property (the chapel is probably property of a parish or decanate or something like that). That's all I can think of right now in terms of information that could help here.
By the way, the linked article doesn't mention it (or I haven't found it yet); but surely there is some kind of statute of limitations on this in regards to the age of artworks even if this exception does somehow NOT apply? I mean if you photograph a 200 year old painting or stained-glass window in a church in such a way that you crop everything else out of the frame (so not so much "as it appears in the location" anymore) surely this would be totally okay? I can't imagine there is not an age limit somewhere, but I can't find it yet.

When opening this DR, I assumed that the sculpture/engraving is copyrighted. Until there is evidence to the contrary (sculptor dead since >70 years), we should assume that, i.e. that copyright by the artist is still in place. Therefore it would be important to know the name of the artist, which I consider also a moral duty, as the image depicts his artist and he/she has the right to be mentioned.
Freedom-of-panorama is a copyright-exception, which restricts the exertion of an still existing copyright for works in the public, bound to certain terms, which vary from country to country, and is very important (often used) for uploads on Commons. However, often the copyright-laws are not very specific when defining their own terms, especially what is included in "public space" and what not. There has been a lot of professional and amateur discussion what is "prostranství" space. The law itslef mentiones some "spaces" and one of the general characteristics of them is, that they doesnt have a roof. Thats also mentioned in this article, which points to legal disputes, which ended aginst interiors. Moreover on other Wikimedia Freedom of Panorama page, Czech Republic doesnt have Freedom of Interiors, like e.g. UK have. I agree that this is not a clear case. Different people can have different opinions about what is 'public space'. The bottom line is that its definition in the Czech law is not exhaustive, therefore, these are just opinions. Since I believe the photo is a useful contribution to Wikimedia Commons, I suggest this (in line with the general In dubio pro reo principle): unless it is clearly declared illegal, consider it legal and leave it alone.

Redraw a coat of arm is not eligible to CC license. Just like i redraw a spiderman, does not means Marvel losing the copyright claim. There is no other evidence that the gov of the city has no copyright claim on the coat of arms such as the right expired etc. Then the copyright tag should be public domain and the uploader only able to claim CC license for derived work portion. Keep Copyright of coat of arms of Italian municipalities was already discussed many times in the past. The design officially used by the municipality may be copyrigthed, but any other design which is based on the blazon – that is free of copyright – belongs to the designer. I did design this CoA by myself (partly taking some elements from other Commons files under public domain) and I published it here as CC0, so I there is no copyright infringement. --Neq00 (talk) 17:05, 24 January 2022 (UTC) P.S. The current coat of arms on en.wiki is a small, low-quality raster, while this one is a vectorial graphics that can be displayed at any size without losing quality. A simple photograph of the foot would have less artistic creation but is definitely under copyright. @Jens Lallensack: you used the word "artwork": could you please give a precise and legitimate definition of this word, and indicate how the current scientific illustration falls under this definition? To me the use of this word is inappropriate, as there is no aesthetic value in such a scientific illustration. The same was said when I seeked for a "media copyright advice" in December 2013. Back then, a qualified user explained that "the drawing of the beaks is sufficiently simple and schematic that one can reasonably exclude an artistic side ("which reflects the personality of its author", which is the touchstone). In the case of the beaks, legs and feathers, a specialist in naturalistic drawing would have to be consulted as to whether he or she considers these to be "simple technical executions" or whether there are small fancies in the execution that may reflect the personality of the author. This being the case, just as in scientific descriptions, it is relatively easy to free oneself from a possible copyright ("literary and artistic") by paraphrasing what is in front of one's eyes to reproduce what makes up the actual information (scientific, and therefore free of copyright) while discarding the contingent details (potentially carrying copyright). For example, for the beaks, one can reconstruct (by hand or with ad hoc software) a vector reproduction of one or the other, and then make eleven modifications to this vector drawing so that it decals the eleven graphic versions presented: with this paraphrasing/rewriting filter, one can be reasonably assured that the contingent details are not transferred into the vector variations, and therefore that the result is only the scientific information that is free of copyright." @Totodu74: – if you drew that image free-hand by yourself (no precise tracing), using the original image as basis for information, then yes, this is acceptable from my understanding. Delete If one assumed that this painting was done during the subject's lifetime (and not later from a photograph), so no later than 1897, there's a good chance that painter A. Silva died no later than 1951, which would mean the painting is in the PD in Mexico per COM:Mexico. But we're not given a year when the painting was done, just as we don't know anything about the painter except this abbreviated, not exactly rare name. Mexico has a term of protection of 100 years pma since 2003, before that it was 50 years since 1982 and 75 years since 1994. If the painter has died just a little bit later in 1952, the copyright for his (or her?) works would have been until the end of 2002 since 1982, until the end of 2027 since 1994, and until the end of 2052 since 2003. 1897 would also not be old enough for {{PD-old-assumed}} with a Mexican work, because PD-old-assumed is 120 years for countries with the standard 70 years pma term, but 150 years with the duration=100 parameter that is needed for Mexico. --Rosenzweigτ14:50, 16 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Comment We don't know if this drawing was actually published and, if it was, if there was a notice or not. [3] says this image is "undated". en:Walsh Gymnasium says that construction of the gymnasium began in 1939, but that does not mean the drawing is from 1939, it could be earlier. Delete The New York Times had an article about the new gymnasium on June 27, 1939 (the day of the groundbreaking ceremony), featuring a drawing of the building, but not this one. They wrote that en:Anthony J. DePace is the architect. So this could be a drawing by DePace ([4] calls it an "Architectural Conception"), but we're not sure. But there is another (much better) version at [5] (just missing the bottom "South Orange N. J." line), called "Architect's conception print for Walsh Auditorium for Seton Hall College" and dated "1939 October", which would indicate this is indeed the work of DePace.
Unless publication is proven, we should assume that the drawing was unpublished before 2003 (added to the university's eRepository website in 10/2016). Which means: If the author is known, copyrighted for 70 years pma. If the author is unknown or corporate authorship, the earlier of 95 years after first publication or 120 years after creation. Unclear copyright status. The photo is taken from the publication "Harcerski Słownik Biograficzny" vol. 4. However, the publisher declares as follows "Zamieszczone w publikacji fotografie pochodzą ze zbiorów Muzeum Harcerstwa w Warszawie, Archiwum Komisji Historycznej Chorągwi Krakowskiej ZHP, zbiorów prywatnych autorów i archiwów rodzinnych" (The photographs included in the publication come from the collections of the Museum of Scouting in Warsaw, the Archive of the Historical Commission of the Krakow Region of Polish Scouting and Guiding Association, the private collections of the authors, and family archives.) Delete Taken from a book that was published in 2016 (pl:Harcerski słownik biograficzny, vol. 4). {{PD-Poland}} applies to photographs that were published before May 23, 1994, so that publication does not qualify the photograph for that tag. The photo might have been published before, but we would need more details about that. Since we don't know if and, if yes, when and where this was published before 2016, we also don't know if that publication (or indeed the 2016 publication) was actually anonymous, so we cannot apply a license tag for anonymous works.
