Autopatrol given
[edit]Hello. I just wanted to let you know that I have granted autopatrol rights to your account; the reason for this is that I believe you are sufficiently trustworthy and experienced to have your contributions automatically marked as "reviewed". This has no effect on your editing, it is simply intended to make it easier for users that are monitoring Recent changes or Recent uploads to find unproductive edits amidst the productive ones like yours. In addition, the Flickr upload feature and an increased number of batch-uploads in UploadWizard, uploading of freely licensed MP3 files, overwriting files uploaded by others and an increased limit for page renames per minute are now available to you. Thank you. ~riley (talk) 05:04, 25 March 2020 (UTC)

File:1953 iran coup de ta - writing motto against shah on wall.jpg has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.
The file you added has been deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you believe that the deletion was not in accordance with policy, you may request undeletion. (It is not necessary to request undeletion if using VRT; the file will be automatically restored at the conclusion of the process.)

@Hanooz: Hi
Farah Pahlavi's website didn't mention that this image is copyright and from Getty Images. That is the reason that I uploaded it.
At this link: https://farahpahlavi.org/copyrights it says "Any copyright material is used pursuant to the "fair use" doctrine".

@Hanooz: Hi
On this link: https://www.bbc.com/persian/iran-features-38624369 there is no copyright tag for image. That is the reason that I uploaded it. Because if BBC Persian gets an image from Getty Images it mention "Getty Images" copyright tag.

- Thanks for the explanation. Looks like BBC Persian is not a reliable source for finding PD images. Hanooz 15:06, 29 November 2020 (UTC)
@Hanooz: I think it is reliable. I reckon they just forgot to add "Getty Images" tag to the photo. Shkuru Afshar (talk) 04:37, 1 December 2020 (UTC)

That specific photo (File:Amir-Abbas Hoveyda body after execution.jpg) is a very famous photo and was published on multiple Iranian newspapers the day after he got executed. @Jeff G.: As per COM:Iran: Photographic or cinematographic works fall into the public domain after 30 years from the date of publication or public presentation. It means death of the photographer doesn't reset public domain ownership of a published photo and make it copyright again. Shkuru Afshar (talk) 12:57, 30 November 2020 (UTC)
- Generally, for any photo to qualify for {{PD-Iran}}, we need on the file description page: proof of the year of publication or public presentation over 30 years ago; or proof of death of the photographer (before 22 August 1980, for works that their copyright expired before 22 August 2010 according to the 1970 law) or (more than 50 years ago). — Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me 18:06, 1 December 2020 (UTC)

Copyright status: File:Poorhssieni.jpg
[edit]Copyright status: File:Poorhssieni.jpg
This media may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading File:Poorhssieni.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.
If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.) If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there. Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you. |

@Magog the Ogre, ~riley, Hanooz, and 4nn1l2: What was the problem with my movement? Was it because it had a Persian tag "خود" was in {{خود|cc-by-sa-4.0}}
copyright tag and Wikimedia Commons couldn't read it?
Again, I did it because Persian Wikipedia made it available.
@Jeff G.: In response to your question, you can see my work and notice that I reviewed my photos and applied for deletion those I found are copyright. Like: Authorities of Iran in a demostration.jpg. Also added references to some other photos to show that they are in public domain. Shkuru Afshar (talk) 15:34, 7 January 2021 (UTC)
- Again: What other files did you upload from sites that follow the fair use doctrine or BBC Persian? — Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me 15:41, 7 January 2021 (UTC)
@Jeff G.: Aagin, I checked websites and Farah Pahlavi's website is the only website that uses fair use. Again, if there is a copyright photo on BBC Persian it adds a label to that, like Getty Images. Also if I get a photo from BBC Persian, I provide the link.Shkuru Afshar (talk) 15:51, 7 January 2021 (UTC)
I think something is wrong with FileImporter's handling of imports from Persian Wikipedia that it allowed this file to be exported without a matching tag for "خود". — Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me 05:54, 8 January 2021 (UTC)
@Jeff G.: For your infromation, the word "خود" in Persian exactly means "self". Hence {{خود|cc-by-sa-4.0}}
exactly means {{self|cc-by-sa-4.0}}
and you can transfer it from Persian WIkipedia. The problem is with Wikimedia Commons that can't read Persian characters. That's the reason for copyright error. If I changed copyright tag from {{خود|cc-by-sa-4.0}}
to {{self|cc-by-sa-4.0}}
it wouldn't be deleted. Shkuru Afshar (talk) 15:14, 8 January 2021 (UTC)

- more to learn for you, Wikimedia Commons always checks copyright tags before transferring and if it finds them incompatible doesn't let it. Hence, if it wouldn't let me do that, I wouldn't do it. Shkuru Afshar (talk) 05:26, 9 January 2021 (UTC)

- I see. You were notified 01:09, 7 January 2021 (UTC). riley deleted the file 04:52, 7 January 2021 (UTC), just 3h43m later, whereas the notice says "Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion." - A review of the source showed no evidence that it was CC BY SA or otherwise available under a free license and therefore it was speedy deleted as a copyvio sooner than the one week period than if the file itself were just missing a license/lacking proper information. ~riley (talk) 06:21, 9 January 2021 (UTC)
- @~riley: If it hasn't been deleted after over a month from Persian Wikipedia (3 of December), it could mean the copyright is okay. As I said before, I wasn't the uploader and transferred the photo just because Persian Wikipedia checks the copyright compatibility and let me doing it.
- Another issue is that Jeff. G. is always chasing me on every single edit which is a clear instance of harassment. Also, when you revoke me from autopatroller, he thanks you. That is another example of hostility. (I refer you to the history of our conversations) Shkuru Afshar (talk) 06:40, 9 January 2021 (UTC)
- Length of time without being deleted is no indication the license is valid. If you are transferring a file, it is your responsibility to review the file and not just take the license at face value. At face value, I'd say it's rather suspicious that a file marked with the {{Self}} template is dated to 1963 and includes a linked source published in 2013? If you were the original uploader, I'd be needing OTRS permission for it being previously published without a free license.
- Jeff is consistent in treating all people equally, he is not targeting you but instead monitoring your uploads like any other Commons reviewer or administrator can. If Jeff was pulling at straws and bringing up issues that weren't valid, I would be concerned about wikihounding. His request to have your autopatroller revoked and thanking me for fulfilling that request is not hostile. ~riley (talk) 06:50, 9 January 2021 (UTC)
- I echo what ~riley said here. The file should have been deleted and its transter to Commons was wrong from the outset regardless of the خود/self template issue. Unlike what Shkuru Afshar says, I know for a fact that fawiki is a failed project that should not be trusted at all. They almost never care about copyright or check the copyright status of files (most of its users and admins don't know anything about copyright at all). Fawiki is a regufe for copyvio. I even support blacklisting this project just like arwiki. 4nn1l2 (talk) 13:37, 9 January 2021 (UTC)

If you created these pages, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with them, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues. |

How to ask for speedy-delete of an empty category
[edit]When you want to ask for speedy-delete of an empty category, best practice is to mark it with {{SD|C2}} if it would be OK to re-create it in the future, given that appropriate content becomes available or {{SD|C1}} if it is an inappropriate category name that should not be reused. In particular, this is better practice than just blanking the category page, as you did at Category:Austin Horn. ("C1" and "C2" come from Commons:Criteria for speedy deletion).
