My request for adminship
[edit]Hello! I want to thank you for your participation and input in my recently failed request for adminship. I take every word everybody said in the most constructive way and it is my intention to not only do my best for Commons (as long as time and real life allows me to), but to continue learning and helping out whenever I can. I don't take your oppose vote as something negative, much on the contrary, it is certainly enlightening. Once again, thank you for your vote and I hope to see you again, collaborating around Commons. Have a good day. Bedivere (talk) 03:21, 4 March 2023 (UTC)
Congratulations, dear license reviewer
[edit]Hi Yahya, thanks for your request for license reviewer status. The request has been closed as successful, and you've been added to the list of reviewers. You can now start reviewing files – please see Commons:License review and Commons:Flickr files if you haven't done so already. We also have a guide how to detect copyright violations. Potential backlogs include Flickr review and files from other sources. You can enable the LicenseReview gadget from Preferences.
Important: You should not review your own uploads, nor those of anyone closely related to you!
Please feel free to join us on IRC: #wikimedia-commons webchat on irc.libera.chat. You can also add {{User license reviewer}} to your user page if you wish. Thank you for your contributions on Commons! -Killarnee (C•T•U) 15:52, 8 March 2023 (UTC)
Daily gallery updater has failed on User:Yahya/Entrepreneurs
[edit]Hello. This message is to inform you that a daily gallery in your userspace, User:Yahya/Entrepreneurs, has failed. Your gallery has a hard upper-limit of about 8000 files per day, while your gallery would have had 17149 files (including files already on the page).
This usually happens because a gallery is too broad, encompassing too many subcategories. Please review the logs here and request that a subcategory be excluded, or narrow your category choice(s).
Please make your request for removal at User talk:OgreBot/gallery within 4 days, or your gallery will be subject to removal.
Thank you. Magog the Ogre (via OgreBot (talk) 03:27, 12 March 2023 (UTC))
Round 1 of Picture of the Year 2022 voting is open!
[edit]Read this message in your language
Dear Wikimedian,
Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2022 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the seventeenth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2022) to produce a single Picture of the Year.
Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.
For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topical categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you may vote for as many images as you like. The top 30 overall and the two most popular images in each category will continue to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just three images to become the Picture of the Year.
Round 1 will end on UTC.
Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee

What is the status of this Deletion Request VRT?
[edit]Commons:Deletion requests/Files in Category:FotoPresidencia Flickr stream to check
It appears that the related email from the Government of Colombia was delivered to VRT in July.
Do VRT volunteers communicate with those persons able to close a DR related to a VRT?
Can this DR be closed now? Thanks, -- Ooligan (talk) 15:45, 16 August 2023 (UTC)
- Once proper proof of permission is found, an agent will add tags to the files and report it in the discussion. An administrator will then close the DR. The customer has not yet responded to the mail regarding this ticket. —Yahya (talk • contribs.) 22:09, 16 August 2023 (UTC)
- @Yahya,
- Did you or a VRT volunteer send an email after this ticket here:https://ticket.wikimedia.org/otrs/index.pl?Action=AgentTicketZoom&TicketNumber=2023071810004291 ?
- Was this ticket not complete or invalid? -- Ooligan (talk) 05:08, 17 August 2023 (UTC)
- A VRT agent replied to their first mail and we didn't receive any response yet. I can't comment on the validity as I don't understand Espanol. —Yahya (talk • contribs.) 08:08, 17 August 2023 (UTC)

Flickypedia soft launch and a huge thank you
[edit]Dear fellow Commons photographer,
I hope this message finds you well. As you might already know, the Flickr Foundation has been busy creating a new Flickr-to-Commons bridge (“Flickypedia”) this year. After a successful demo at the GLAM Wiki Conference in Montevideo, the Flickr Foundation team is now inviting all members of the Commons Photographers User Group to be the first to review their alpha, reporting any technical issues or other feedback via the Flickypedia project talk page.
At the same time, this message is an opportunity for me to thank you for your trust and support over the past couple of years. Since 2017, we've grown into being one of the largest user groups in the Wikimedia universe. I've tremendously enjoyed interacting with all of our members when it came to joint photowalks at Wikimanias, virtual Zoom meetings where we covered a wide variety of photography topics, as well as our annual “Most memorable shot of the year”, among many other events. As I'm not running for an official position in our current board election, this will be my last message on behalf of the user group to you. Thanks for all the happy moments we shared together over the years! I hope you'll continue creating free images for the millions of people we serve through Wikipedia and Commons.
All the best, --Frank Schulenburg (talk) 19:36, 9 December 2023 (UTC)

Looking forward to seeing your memorable shots!

Let’s aim to bring Bangladesh to the top of the winner list among countries from all over the world this year!

- Hi Romaine ,
- Can you please clarify why I have to send an email to a private list to unsubscribe from the wiki message? —Yahya (talk • contribs.) 13:39, 21 May 2024 (UTC)
- Hi, I am just the messenger, I will forward your question to user who asked me to send this message. Romaine (talk) 14:07, 21 May 2024 (UTC)
- Hello @Yahya, thanks for the question. Since Project Korikath is the organizer of this campaign, emailing the Project Korikath SC is the quickest way to bring anything to their notice; all the organizing team members are connected to the address we provided. I have also signed the message on behalf of Project Korikath so that anyone knows who sent the message and I have kept the link to my talk page clearly visible in case anyone needs that.
- I hope you're aware that only admins can send massmessages and organizers need to request the admins to do that on behalf of them. @Romaine just responded to our request to send the message. I am noticing a negative trend of disrupting the current campaign and I started a conversation here. Mrb Rafi (talk) 19:24, 21 May 2024 (UTC)
- @Mrb Rafi The statement 'I am noticing a negative trend...' is irrelevant to this discussion.
- By sending a mass message stating 'If you want to unsubscribe, you have to mail privately,' you are encouraging many people (2k+) to disclose their private information to a group of people. For those who do not want to disclose their information, there is no way to unsubscribe. This goes against the spirit of this movement. I suggest creating an on-wiki subscription system or page that is not pre-filled with 2k+ usernames. Instead, replace the above mass message (by bot or awb) with information on how to subscribe.
- I hope you understand! —Yahya (talk • contribs.) 08:57, 22 May 2024 (UTC)

Images from Remembering our Heroes project has been listed at Commons:Categories for discussion so that the community can discuss ways in which it should be changed. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry. If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it. If the category is up for deletion because it has been superseded, consider the notion that although the category may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new category. In all cases, please do not take the category discussion personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you! |
