[edit]I don't know how this process works really and I'm not sure if this is the right place to make my commentary, but I submit that the probability that Bandai is going to sue Wikipedia over a photo of a Gundam, something that exists in literal quantities of billions on the internet and promotes their product, is about as likely as the Earth being struck by a meteor and eradicating all life and you could reasonably ignore this infinitesemal possibility and assume that it might be covered under fair use if it were ever tested.Gravislizard (talk) 04:20, 2 August 2020 (UTC)

Ahluwalia in order to provide proof of his credentials and to authenticate the statements made in the article. - When I first uploaded this logo, I did so under the rationalization that one could draw a white lowercase 'b', fill the middle of it with a gray circle, and then cut out a smaller circle within and add two perpendicular and symmetrical transparent lines. For that, I did not consider how any jurisdiction, including Ukraine, could consider it to be more than "simple geometric shapes or text", but then again, the BBC logo is indeed copyrighted in the United Kingdom I think because of the logo's font, though it would not be in the United States. I guess I have found more evidence that simplicity may not really exist, but simply be a term we use to describe and consider things, and the worst I could do is offending someone by mistakenly claiming that their work is in the public domain, so I am more than willing to vote to take this image down. - To me this looks like your typical hit and run copyvio account. The only edit this user ever made on all projects by wikimedia was to upload this very image. The image looks like your atypical advertising image and it also appears in part on this page. Yes, the article was posted in 2016, but it's still advertising with the same quality and style (you have to view the image from the background or click here). - The images are from the reference book that is now long out of print. There is no dedication attached to the images in the book, just titles. I doubt that the books author took the original images. - For me the problem is the technical one. Has the photographer been long enough dead for the pictures to be out of copyright, or does the book author have rights that persist until today. Timtrent (talk) 13:03, 18 August 2020 (UTC)
- Delete. The uploader has changed their copyright claim from it being their own work, to it being from an out of print book. The book was published in 1961 or 1964 - sources differ. So if the photographer is unknown and this was the first publication then they may come into public domain in 2034. The "This is your life photo" is from a UK television program that started in 1955, so that photo dates to between 1955 and 1964, less than 70 years ago so hard to see how that could not be in copyright. The other two photos appear to be of the same person decades earlier, it is possible that they are in the public domain, either if the photographer died before 1950, or if the photographer was unknown and the photos were published before 1950. But the safest thing would be to delete all three. English Wikipedia might host them as "Fair Use" but Commons only hosts freely licensed materal. WereSpielChequers (talk) 09:53, 19 August 2020 (UTC)

- Hate to say this - but I'm pretty sure there *is* a problem if you take the image from a personal site, and the person responsible for that site has clearly stated, "Please ask permission before using images elsewhere" but you have not complied.
- And I'm pretty sure, too, that regardless whether or not you have obtained this permission, you cannot claim the image to be your own work - as Oldfan123456 has done here - because it isn't. In all likelihood, it's the work of the person responsible for the personal site, whose permission you either have or haven't obtained (if it isn't, then they have probably taken it from Ebay). The plate itself, meanwhile, is the work of the state that issued it (so, obviously, this particular plate is the work of the state of South Carolina). Neutral I don't think that line from COM:COSTUME was meant to be taken as "if A, then B; therefore, if not A, then not B", but rather that photographs of potentially or otherwise non-free costumes have unclear status on Commons. - Neutral I don't think that line from COM:COSTUME was meant to be taken as "if A, then B; therefore, if not A, then not B", but rather that photographs of potentially or otherwise non-free costumes have unclear status on Commons. - Delete I think in this case we are talking about a copyrighted design. It would be interesting to figure out when it is safe to undelete something like that. - That might be a problem, because the picture might be a Commons:derivative work of the picture on the screen. I say might because I haven't actually found anything in the Canadian Copyright Act that would cause the picture on the screen to be subject to copyright. However, I don't really know my way around Canadian copyright law (unlike so many in the former British Empire, it's not really structured the same as UK law), so I'm not certain. I'd say precautionarily Delete unless someone who knows Canadian law better comes along. --bjh21 (talk) 10:56, 12 August 2020 (UTC)
