Remarks for Imagecontestation:

1) The Canon 70-200mm f/2.8 is not a long-range lens, it is a common portrait zoom.

2) Your consent is not needed when you are advertising your presence in a public event to promote your products. Basically, my rights to free expression can be limited only by you right to privacy or the safeguard of your honour and good name; your privacy is not breached since you are on the programme of the book fair [1], and there is nothing insulting or defamatory is a portrait on neutral background to illustrate your biography. I am granting your request in spite of your arguments, not thanks to them.

3) I took two other photographs at the same event, File:André Ourednik-IMG 0515.JPG and File:André Ourednik-IMG 0525.JPG; do you want them deleted as well?

Keep for both lists (and undelete those already deleted on this basis). There is no problem with these files' licenses. They are under perfectly free licenses. The licenses are apparently being very strictly enforced, but going down any route of "we only host files whose copyright holders are not too strict about enforcing their copyright" would be a very fundamental redefinition of what Commons does and does not host. We regularly (and rightly) keep hosting files whose copyright holder is no longer distributing them under a free license (e.g. changing the license on Flickr to "all rights reserved"). It is likely that many such copyright holders, since they no longer want their files to be reused, will also very strictly enforce their licenses. It's the whole point of accepting only irrevocable licenses that we don't care about how nice the copyright holder might (now or at a future point) want to be about enforcement. So either we should delete all of these files if we worry about copyright holders not being nice about enforcement, or we should keep these files too. Tokfo (talk) 20:21, 21 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I understand your reasoning, but this is in no way a typical case, because it appears that the uploader explicitly uploaded the images here in order to encourage misuse of them by innocent parties, in order to extort money from them using their own website http://www.plaghunter.com/en/. The way that after being blocked, the user has seemingly paid editors to add photos to high-trafficked WP articles e.g. [2] [3] makes this especially clear. @Stepro: G10 doesn't really apply. G10 would be for images that absolutely lack COM:EDUSE. But if something was created with a goal of promotion but it happens to have EDUSE, we'll keep it. Sometimes manufacturers of goods register here and upload properly licensed product photos. Promotion is likely also a goal of that, but it is educationally useful. So we keep it. to be honest: This user is blocked indef because of his misuse of our project and sueing other users and reusers with high amounts just because of very little attribution faults. @Stepro: They should be deleted, and as far as I'm concerned an admin can close this speedy (admins can do that you know!). This DR is linked on COM:AN so there is nothing holding them back. My concern with your comment was the rationale. G10 does not apply to these files, G4 does. But adding speedy tags only creates more work. But isn't the whole deal of CC licenses to be redistributed in a manner specified by the author? For all legal purposes these images are all irrevocably released under free licenses so why delete them? You can't claim that the images you legally stated are free are suddenly unfree, is there any evidence that it was in fact the person of Marco Verch and not an impersonator making all these threats? I can see someone claiming to be a photographer and demanding money and then banning the photographer would ban an additional victim. Still sounds a bit odd to me that Flickr does allow his images to stay online, with open license, but a good faith usage of such a picture on this site would be met with legal action. I wonder: who would he sue? Me? Wikimedia? Did he ever actually sue someone? Under what law does he think he would stand a chance? Would he really risk having to pay the legal fees of Wikimedia as a defending party? Please understand that people put quite some effort into finding an acceptable picture and uploading it with all details filled in properly, which is cumbersome enough, and that it's quite disappointing to suddenly see it deleted even when you've done everything right. I feel WP/wikimedia editors should be protected from such disappointment. Well if that's the German law and discussions on the German site led to the conclusion that nothing can be done about it, i guess we'll have to accept this situation. At least now it's clear what's going on for anyone who lands on this page. I didn't use the flickr tool, because i didn't know of it's existence. Again i don't have experience. Next time, I'll just try to make a picture myself and hope that process goes smoother. No, las cosas no son así. En este caso particular, la placa data de 2014 y su texto no puede encontrarse en el dominio público, ya que deben pasar más de 70 años. En el caso de las imágenes que has enlazado, como el busto de Tenderini, el objeto principal de la fotografía no es la placa de arriba ni la de abajo, por lo que aplica el concepto de de minimis. If you have a problem with how the aide is configured, maybe that's a conversation for getting technical assistance with changing it, but as long as it works the way it works, I will use it. The point is that at the time I saw it, it had a valid source and no apparent reason to be deleted - the same as the others - but to provide proper references should the problem ever come up again, conversion to DN is better because it leaves a clearer trail for later. This was incorrect in this case, but there's no easy fix for that. If people do not want their nude or semi-naked images to be identified they should better refrain from taking pics of their own body and uploading them to internet. The author of this picture is Rehul Gandhi, who is President of Indian National Congress. I dont believe this. He has better things to do than posting pictures into Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons. This owner is likely an imposter with a fake name and a fake account. The source has a licence but under a fake name who is the principal opposition leader and a elected MP from Parliament of India. This photo should be deleted for posting under fake name/fake ownership and bad licence. The owner Rahul Gandhi should verify his real account or this picture shoule be permanently deleted. @Jwbottletree: Sure, no one's disputing that you took the images. But with your reply, we run into some issues. Who owns the copyright to the statue? Unless it was explicitly stated in a contract that the community group owns the copyright, then the artist owns the copyright. In both cases, evidence of permission is required and you'll have to email the email response team to prove that they explicitly approve the files being hosted here.

It's nice and all that they're aware of the draft article and have no objections, but for legal reasons we need an actual email detailing this. A good step, at the very least, would be to verify who owns the copyright to the statue and moving forwards from there. Let me know if you have any questions. Keep most if not all. Yes, they are historical images but, but either taken from the Ottoman press (which is PD for Commons), like in the case of File:İdman Dergisi - Fenerbahçe 1. Takımı (1912).jpg or from material exposed in Fenerbahçe Museum. There is FoP for these items in Turkey. The uploader has also made a simple mistake such as confusing the writer of a book as if he were the author of a photo published in it (File:1913-1914 Sezonu Fenerbahçe Takımı.jpg) while the photo is also from the museum as may be seen by the seal on it. Please let us keep everything dating to the Ottoman period (the last nail was put on the coffin of the Empire on 24 July 1923). E4024 (talk) 16:18, 14 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
For example File:3 Mayıs 1918 Fenerbahçe Ziyareti Mustafa Kemal.jpg. We have much newer manuscripts of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk here. He died in 1938. This is about a manuscript, the photo does not have anything special, and as I said above they are in museums and PD. (BTW with this aproach we may have to delete all the images about 1915 events in the Ottoman Empire and the Armenian lobby would blow Commons up. :) Please keep all these files, I will add the licenses. Although the photo album from the 1910s states that the picture shows Enoch Thulin, I am now absolutely sure that it is not Enoch standing in front of the aircraft. Breach of US copyright. The image was FIRST published in 1969: Isaksson, Olov and Sören Hallgren (1969). Bishop Hill: svensk koloni på prärien. Stockholm. Its hence falling between the chairs: NOT published before January 1, 1923, BUT published prior to January 1, 2003. This image is in the public domain in most countries, but not in the USA. According to US copyright laws, to be in the public domain requires either publication BEFORE January 1, 1923, OR (for dead authors) not having being published prior to January 1, 2003.
