The Ottoman Empire was never colonized because it was itself a colonial power. The Ottoman Empire was occupied by some countries after the lost World War I for a few years and during the Turkish War of Independence, but not colonized. The Ottoman Empire was never colonized because it was itself a colonial power. The Ottoman Empire was occupied by some countries after the lost World War I for a few years and during the Turkish War of Independence, but not colonized. Hallo Achim, danke für Ihre Nachricht. Ich wollte nochmal anmerken, dass die Karte von 1920 nicht ganz korrekt ist, da das Osmanische Reich nach dem 1. Weltkrieg lediglich nur für kurze Zeit in der Mittelmeerregion, Südostanatolien und Ostanatolien besetzt wurde. Diese genannten Regionen wurden an keine Kolonialmacht angegliedert. Daher ist die farbliche Hinterlegung im Bezug zum Kolonialimus im Jahr 1920 nicht korrekt. Eine andere Karte kann ich leider nicht hochladen, da ich selber keine habe. Dennoch habe mich auf diversen Wikipedia Seiten in verschiedenen Sprache umgeschaut und musste feststellen, dass dies die einzige Karte ist, welche farblich nicht korrekt ist. Daher bitte ich um eine Berichtigung. Noch als Ergänzung. Der Hochlader "SuperSucker" hatte sogar im Jahr 2018 angegeben: "fix - by adding the Ottoman Empire before I considered some more of western Turkey under italian rule but I'm unsure so that I reverted; it remains unclear to me under whose rule north-western Turkey were in 1920". Daher war er sich beim Hochladen selber nicht sicher gewesen. This file was initially tagged by Heliesrall as Speedy (speedy deletion) and the most recent rationale was: Derivative work . This is only a partial screenshot taken from the book cover of The Legacy of Jihad by Andrew Bostom. Not a faithful and complete reproduction of the actual text illustration by Muhammad Rafi Bazil. That doesn't seem like a valid reason for deletion to me. It is not a derivative of any of the elements of the book cover which could conceivably be protected by copyright. Uploaded from a prodigious Flickr account from Coastal Elite, upon closer inspection it doesn't appear to me to represent a real outdoor display. The person on this image died in 1995, the photo is probably copyrighted. In addition it is a product of "photoshop". The streetname is not related to the person on the photo, which is called TimmermaNs, not TimmermaNNs. As this is not mentioned on the file page, this is misleading imho. Photo was made by my father who worked for him, this photo was made around 1975 when Timmermans left Military service, the street is just a street in the neighbourhodd and as you can see he made a joke with the letters above; Timmermans is weg, meaning in Dutch; Timmermans is leaving/away. - I would suggest to make clear in the "edit summary" of the deletion (in case it will be deleted), that the image will still be free, with a remark to the OTRS ticket 2011080810015971. In case the uploader will sue them for copyright violation, they can ask any OTRS-member to get the proof that the image is free, and still is, in a legal point of view, as well as that the uploader does know this information. - Delete - I usually don't trust people who make only 1 or 2 uploads, especially when they create a user name portraying to be a prominent artist who's paintings are on display in a major museum in Canada. The previous kept is ridiculous, so what if the image is unlawfully used in many places? This image is beyond doubt a copyright violation because it's clearly protected by the copyright law of Canada. They show a scene in the movie w:Breakaway (2011 film) where this same painting is displayed at a museum in Canada. If we're going to keep this then we must also keep the Paintings by Tapand. It only means that the author has granted usage rights for that image to everybody. It seems that in that message to the OTRS, the author declared to indeed have uploaded that image himself, but two years later he now claimed to have done so by mistake and asked for deletion. That would be called "circumstantial evidence" I guess, and it could be perhaps be used as basis for a precautionary deletion, but still it isn't anything that could really be called proof (like a Checkuser). Especially since we do seem to have that OTRS message saying that the author himself uploaded this image here under a free license. Kept I have examined OTRS ticket #2011080810015971 which covers 18 messages to and from OTRS. The e-mails all come from the domain which is the artist's official web site and apparently come from the artist himself. Therefore I conclude that the e-mails are authentic.
In them the artist admits that he himself uploaded the image and licensed it as CC-BY-SA. This is a case, then, of an author changing his mind two years after the fact. We would do a substantial disservice to those who have used the image on the web and in print if we remove the image now. Since the license is irrevocable and the image appears in many places on the web, removing it from Commons would have little effect on its widespread use.
I have sympathy for users who make a mistake and want to correct it a week or two afterward, but waiting two years is too long.

The painting is displayed at the Royal Ontario Museum in Canada, which obviously means that it was published in Canada on the day it was displayed in said museum unless evidence is shown to the contrary. - Comment I declined a speedy on this image because the rationale was flawed. (1) The source of the image isn't particularly relevant: either it's in the public domain, in which case it's fine regardless of its source, or it's still copyrighted, in which case no source can make it fine. (2) All the images in Category:Photos of people of Central Asia by Sergey Prokudin-Gorsky are color images created more than a decade before 1929, so yes it was possible. Of course declining a speedy as flawed is different from wanting it to be kept; the deletion arguments here make sense and I don't understand how the contrary position could be tenable. - The point is the original photo was shot by an Afghan during the 1929 civil war in Afghanistan. The image proposed for deletion here appears as a recent artwork, which means the artist is likely living somewhere. BTW, in the original photo another Afghan man is standing next to Kalakani but in this image that man is replaced by Quran (Islam's holy book). This suggests that the artist is motivated by religion or politics (e.g., that w:Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi is a good guy and w:Bashar al-Assad is a bad guy).--Officer (talk) 18:52, 18 May 2019 (UTC)

- @Aldnonymous: I accessed the most recent version of BOLD Systems ("Copyright BOLD © 2014-2019", without All rights reserved!), and found that all of the files I uploaded this time are shown with "No Rights Reserved / Public Domain" (Dombeya tiliacea, Mostuea brunonis, Rytigynia spp., Triplochiton scleroxylon). It seems that BOLD Systems issue could be resolved by re-uploading each file and changing each source-description though we still may have another problem concerning all the species of Rytigynia, i.e. the copyright of Buffelskloof Private Nature Reserve. --Eryk Kij (talk) 08:21, 14 May 2019 (UTC)
- As for the Rytigynia specimens, even if they are copyrighted, I believe that all what I cited are necessary information required at minimum, i.e. what species they are, when and where they were collected, and who collected them. I claim

- As for the descriptions from Buffelskloof Private Nature Reserve, I think that I just cited them properly and these images are from the other site, namely BOLD Systems. By the way, what are the "No Rights Reserved" contents included within an "All Rights Reserved" one? There are many "All Rights Reserved" or "CC BY-NC-SA" contents in the BOLD Systems site, then what means the "No Rights Reserved" ones there?
