Notification about possible deletion

Some contents have been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether they should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at their entry.

If you created these pages, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with them, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Own Work?

What do you think of "Own Work" for this image: File:Dakuku_Peterside_image.jpg? Seems to be sourced from http://www.onepageafrica.com/2016/11/ and the uploader added two other images that look similar but I couldn't find other sources for them. @sikander (talk) 22:59, 2 December 2017 (UTC)

norden.org images

Found this image sourced from norden.org which states the license is CC BY-NC-SA 4.0. However, the image on Commons is licensed under cc-by-2.5-dk and doesn't mention the non-commercial restriction. Is this a copyvio? @sikander (talk) 14:17, 13 December 2017 (UTC)

@Siqbal: Sounds like it, but I'd double check with Commons:Village pump/Copyright to make sure this isn't a special situation. Elisfkc (talk) 02:54, 14 December 2017 (UTC)

crop tool

Hi there, thanks for the tip on crop tool. I didn't know about it. The image I uploaded was not already on the commons; but I can see how it's better to upload the whole image and then crop for use. Best wishes, Devadaru (talk) 21:20, 14 January 2018 (UTC)

PDN: Own work doesn't look right

This user seems to be all over the place. Images from Baghdad, Tehran, Berlin, Amsterdam, Toronto, etc and all are marked as Own Work. Thoughts? @sikander (talk) 00:59, 18 January 2018 (UTC)

I boldly redirected the category (see my edit summary for reasoning), then realized while I was mass-removing files I should probably notify you before proceeding any further. I'll refrain from transferring any more unless you agree. MB298 (talk) 23:58, 18 January 2018 (UTC)

@MB298: Thanks for checking with me. I don't really mind what we call these sort of categories, as long as there is one and the flickr account number is listed. --Elisfkc (talk) 00:21, 19 January 2018 (UTC)

Korea.net images

Flickrreviewer 2 will always fail because the original file @ flickr has some HTML tags in EXIF, which is causing MediaWiki to reject the file. FR2 then thinks there's no such file and fails it. You have to manually do it.

Thanks! — regards, Revi 17:09, 23 January 2018 (UTC)

@Revi: Couldn't remember if it was one of the override ones or not. Thanks, --Elisfkc (talk) 17:10, 23 January 2018 (UTC)
I learned that hard way, trying it via Flickr2Commons / UploadWizard, in the end I just removed EXIF manually. One bad thing - korea.net seem to be licensing most of their stuff with NC clause these days. I'll have to contact them to remove them. — regards, Revi 17:11, 23 January 2018 (UTC)

SIGNY pic

Ok so what do I tell the band members of SIGNY what they have to do to upload the picture? I obviously told them incorrect info the first time. I don't live in the same state as they do so I communicate only through messenger. Thanks. Fyunck(click) (talk) 04:41, 1 February 2018 (UTC)

@Fyunck(click): They need to ask whoever originally took the picture to release it under a free to use license.--Elisfkc (talk) 04:46, 1 February 2018 (UTC)
When I uploaded it, the wikimedia walkthrough said 2.0 Generic (CC BY 2.0) works with wikimedia. This wikimedia page also says that, so I don't understand what to tell them. Fyunck(click) (talk) 04:52, 1 February 2018 (UTC)
They just messaged me that Casey Holder and Delaney Gibson did the uploading to flickr, putting in all the correct info that your license page says to do. I have to say, getting pics from people is so hard to use here. I had to tell Chris Evert and Margaret Court not to send me any personally taken pics from their own cameras because it's too hard to get approved here. Fyunck(click) (talk) 04:59, 1 February 2018 (UTC)
@Fyunck(click): Great. Please send that correspondence from Casey Holder and Delaney Gibson through the OTRS procedure. An OTRS volunteer will review it, and if it has enough proof that the license is correct, you should be fine. --Elisfkc (talk) 16:21, 1 February 2018 (UTC)

Flickr2Commons

Hi Elisfkc, thank you for your message. I'm aware of the existance of FLickr2Commons, and I use it quite regularly. I believe that you are refering to the pictures of NASA KSC. The problem is, despite that those pictures are in public domain, for some reason they are released on Flickr under a CC-NC license which is not compatible with Commons. Flickr 2 Commons won't work under those circumstances, so I have no other option but upload them manually. --BugWarp (talk) 23:17, 8 February 2018 (UTC)

@BugWarp: I understand that, but you can actually still upload them one by one. The bigger issue is that you only put the base url on most of those pictures, rather than the specific image url. I've fixed them already. --Elisfkc (talk) 00:10, 9 February 2018 (UTC)
@Elisfkc: Yes, that was a mistake, since I upload them in bulk mode, and it was quite annoying to put the specific image url on that mode, I should have corrected that and I'm sorry for it.--BugWarp (talk) 00:26, 9 February 2018 (UTC)

Video frame deletions

Why are you nominating still images from videos as duplicates? Extracted still images are not duplicates of entire videos. --Closeapple (talk) 23:05, 8 February 2018 (UTC)

@Closeapple: It is a known issue with the Flickr2Commons tool. The tool uploads a still of the video, rather than recognizing that it is a video and either ignoring or uploading the video. The ones I am nominating are because of that issue. The uploader and I have talked about this before. --Elisfkc (talk) 00:12, 9 February 2018 (UTC)
So Flickr2Commons is uploading just the JPG, not the WEBM, and then someone has to upload the WEBM manually instead? --Closeapple (talk) 06:16, 9 February 2018 (UTC)
@Closeapple: Pretty much. --Elisfkc (talk) 02:50, 10 February 2018 (UTC)
@Closeapple: , yes. It doesn't recognize videos. It just cuts the first frame and uploads it. Artix Kreiger 2 (talk) 02:03, 12 February 2018 (UTC)

Repeated renaming of files imported from Flickr

Hello User:Elisfkc, please could you help myself and others understand the thought process behind these actions:

These renames were reverted the original names restored by User:Dyolf77, per request on the basis of "Restore previous descriptive, non-generic and searchable name, including camera angle and visible text.". Reviewing Special:Log/Elisfkc?type=move, we can see that the same set of moves has been performed again four days later. —Sladen (talk) 12:24, 13 February 2018 (UTC)

@Sladen: I see them as being too long of a file name, when they could have a simple name (like I made them) with their Flickr number at the end to differentiate. They also seemed close to the examples for reason #2 to move files. I honestly forgot I had already moved them, which is why I moved them again. --Elisfkc (talk) 17:07, 13 February 2018 (UTC)
Elisfkc. Thank you for the response. These moves appear to have introduced #2 (not solved it … ie. moving a meaningful name to a meaningless name), differentiated only by (an effectively random) numeric Flickr ID. Please kindly move the files back to the originally uploaded filenames. —Sladen (talk) 18:44, 13 February 2018 (UTC)
Elisfkc. *polite cough*. —Sladen (talk) 21:00, 18 February 2018 (UTC)
@Sladen: You can do it yourself, I won't move it back. --Elisfkc (talk) 03:20, 19 February 2018 (UTC)

Hi. The deletion policy is specific about what can be speedied, and images that are the same image though not the same file type are not seen as exact duplicates. The policy then says that such deletions should be handled by a DR. Our usage on duplication is not to restrict users from choosing the file type of their preference, so generally we should have a purposeful reason for deleting a work.  — billinghurst sDrewth 00:08, 6 March 2018 (UTC)

Flickr2Commons tool

Ref your message:

I have just come across a few images you have recently uploaded from Flickr. I would appreciate it if in the future, you used the Flickr2Commons tool. This tool allows images to be moved to Commons from Flickr without having to download the images to your own computer. It also brings in the largest resolution of the image, as well making sure to list the correct license and url, making it easy for the automated Flickr Review system. Also, it is fairly easy to categorize images with this tool. To use it, you just need to go to the url and authorize it (where it says "authorise first"). Elisfkc (talk) 19:42, 5 March 2018 (UTC)

On this link you can view the images and even click on the license which is almost always CC BY 3.0 if it is "Creative Commons erkännande". A few are not and I have filed DR's on them like this case Best, --Leoboudv (talk) 03:03, 7 March 2018 (UTC)

The Huntington

Please don't undo my (or FlickreviewR's) edits. I am working on the Huntington category, see also Commons:Deletion requests/undefinedinsource:huntingtontheatreco. The Huntington messed up with licenses in the past and updated licenses for many files.

"CC is irrevocable" has no meaning when The Huntington never had the rights in the first place. The files really do need a new review. - Alexis Jazz ping plz 01:22, 23 June 2018 (UTC)

@Alexis Jazz: You already have a deletion request open on them because of that issue. There is no reason to rereview them in that case, especially since they passed the first time. --Elisfkc (talk) 01:42, 23 June 2018 (UTC)
Following that DR, The Huntington updated the license for many files on Flickr that they never had the proper rights for to begin with. Eventually I will ask FlickreviewR to re-review all of them. The Honourable Rosalie Silberman Abella

Are there any copyright issues for illustrations of living people? Found this today and wondered: Rosalie Abella. Compare with actual photo of person: https://www.scc-csc.ca/judges-juges/bio-eng.aspx?id=rosalie-silberman-abella and probably inspired by photo here: https://www.ctvnews.ca/canada/canadian-supreme-court-judge-awarded-honorary-degree-from-yale-1.2914423 // sikander { talk } 21:49, 27 June 2018 (UTC)

@Sikander: Not 100% sure. Ask on Com:Village Pump/Copyright. --Elisfkc (talk) 22:33, 1 July 2018 (UTC)

Good Evening,

Please find a link below to the University of Stirling Archives page, there you can see all the photos I have uploaded and double check that they have CC BY SA 2.0. I asked the archive to change the copyright before I began to upload the images, I also watched as they changed the copyright. What else do you need to stop the images being deleted?

Best Wishes,

Lucy

LMRodger (talk) 19:07, 3 July 2018 (UTC)

@LMRodger: On each image, you need to provide the source url. For instance, on File:A graduate at the University of Stirling.jpg, you needed to say the source was https://www.flickr.com/photos/unistirarchives/3817608404/in/album-72157621903197479/ instead of "University of Stirling Archives flickr page". That way the reviewer/review bot can easily find and approve the image. In the future, I'd recommend using Flickr2Commons to upload the photos. I'll let you source each of the images now. --Elisfkc (talk) 19:17, 3 July 2018 (UTC)
Thank you. I'll go and do that. Should I contact you once I have finished? LMRodger (talk) 19:36, 3 July 2018 (UTC)
@LMRodger: Sure --Elisfkc (talk) 20:18, 3 July 2018 (UTC)
Done. Thank you for your advice and help. Have a nice nightǃ LMRodger (talk) 21:08, 3 July 2018 (UTC)
@LMRodger: (talk page stalker) Now that added a source url, I tagged them for review and the flickr review robot has passed them all, though one had a wrong url but I found that one too. Ww2censor (talk) 21:24, 3 July 2018 (UTC)

A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:Muppet*Vision 3D Movie Poster-It Called From Outer Space (23473258975).jpg, is a derivative work, containing an "image within an image". Examples of such works would include a photograph of a sculpture, a scan of a magazine cover, or a map that has been altered from the original. In each of these cases, the rights of the creator of the original must be considered, as well as those of the creator of the derivative work.

While the description page states who made this derivative work, it currently doesn't specify who created the original work, so the overall copyright status is unclear. If you did not create the original work depicted in this image, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright.

Please edit the file description and add the missing information, or the file may be deleted. If you created the original content yourself, enter this information as the source. If someone else created the content, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it, the name and ISBN of the book you scanned it from, or similar. You should also name the author, provide verifiable information to show that the content is in the public domain or has been published under a free license by its author, and add an appropriate template identifying the public domain or licensing status, if you have not already done so. Please add the required information for this and other files you have uploaded before adding more files. If you need assistance, please ask at the help desk. Thank you!

Rock Contra La Dictadura - Nicolás Maduro.jpg and other image

The image was shared by PROVEA, which produced the album. Would this be a copyvio? Also, would Hugo Chávez portrait.jpg be a copyvio as well? If so, you can tag it for deletion and I apologize.--ZiaLater (talk) 16:22, 7 August 2018 (UTC)

@ZiaLater: It is unclear who owns the copyright to the album cover, whether it is the band or if someone else created the cover art. Yes, the Hugo Chávez portrait.jpg is a copyright violation. For the whole principle on this, see Commons:De minimis. --Elisfkc (talk) 16:26, 7 August 2018 (UTC)

Two images from the same source

Why would this image https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Atlantic_Wall_in_Norway#/media/File:Festung_Norwegen.jpg be acceptable while this image https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Festung_Norwegen_155mm_cannon.jpg would be deleted? They are the same gun from two different angles, taken by the same person, same time and from the same flickr slideshow. They should have the same license. Why do I need a Masters Degree in Copyright Law just to post an image? Snowdawg (talk) 16:48, 7 August 2018 (UTC)

@Snowdawg: If they had both been uploaded right now, they would both need to be deleted. However, File:Festung Norwegen.jpg was uploaded and passed review in 2009, meaning it was under Creative Commons license at the time. Since Creative Commons licencees are irrevocable, it remains under that license. However, there is no way to prove that the image you uploaded ever was under Creative Commons. I understand that they are from the same person, but sometimes people purposely license images differently. If you want a full explanation from others or need help on other images, feel free to ask on Commons:Village pump/Copyright. Elisfkc (talk) 16:57, 7 August 2018 (UTC)

Babel

Hey Elisfkc,

Like Hedwig said, you are somewhat required to add templates about what languages you understand. Refer to here and add e.g. {{User en}} or a babel box {{Babel}} and add any language you're familiar with to your user page. -- 1989 (talk) 15:41, 20 January 2019 (UTC)

This file may be deleted.
A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:Safety and medical cars in Japan 2014.jpg, is a derivative work, containing an "image within an image".

Thank you!

Be more careful

Elisfkc, read this: Commons:500px licensing data next time that you perform a massive edits, at least look the summary, or try to understand were the files came from. Fix your edits will be very time consuming... pay more attention. -- Rodrigo Tetsuo Argenton m 19:41, 28 April 2019 (UTC)

@Rodrigo.Argenton: I understand your point, but there should still be a {{License review}} or similar template shown. Even Upload Wizard shows a version of it after verifying licenses for files from Flickr. --Elisfkc (talk) 01:54, 29 April 2019 (UTC)
No it don't.
The {{License review}} it's just to manually attest the source.
The 500px tool include the source at the description of the file, including an archived version "Imported from 500px (archived version) by the Archive Team. (detail page)" , because in theory, 500px will delete this files.
So, again, read the page that I suggest, and after revert this massive edits that will only create issues and rework to other volunteers.

Category discussion warning

Category:Files_from_500px_needing_review has been listed at Commons:Categories for discussion so that the community can discuss ways in which it should be changed. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it. If the category is up for deletion because it has been superseded, consider the notion that although the category may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new category.

In all cases, please do not take the category discussion personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you!

Star Wars Galaxy's Edge

Hi There.

I have a question regarding the photo you deleted. If I get permission from the reddit user who uploaded, will I be able to upload it? If so do I upload it through the commons or through Wikipedia's non free image uploader? CrispyCream27 (talk) 21:29, 4 July 2019 (UTC)

@CrispyCream27: Possibly, though they would have to prove that they took the photo (see COM:OTRS for the best way to do this). The image would not be eligible to be uploaded to Wikipedia as a non-free image no matter what, since a free equivalent is possible. --Elisfkc (talk) 16:42, 7 July 2019 (UTC)
