If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues. |

@Sikander: since you created the category, wondering why the images are not in the Category:Islamic terrorism symbol? Thank you so much for your time. Lotje (talk) 12:24, 24 March 2024 (UTC)
- @Lotje: I suspect some kind of loop is happening here. The "terrorism symbol" was renamed to "Islamic terrorism symbol" and from what I recall, a bot was supposed to update all the files that were in the previous category/template but that didn't happen or did not work as expected. Unfortunately I'm not sure what the fix is for this. // sikander { talk } 🦖 15:33, 24 March 2024 (UTC)

Requesting review
[edit]Hi, can you please review the license of this file? Thank you. SamsonM2 (talk) 08:10, 30 March 2024 (UTC)
- Hi SamsonM2, I'm not too familiar with the GODL license requirements. Do you have the source link for that image instead of the direct jpg link ? See File:The Chairperson, National Advisory Council, Smt. Sonia Gandhi and the Member Parliament Shri Rahul Gandhi paying homage at the Samadhi of former Prime Minister, Late Smt. Indira Gandhi, on her 96th Birth Anniversary.jpg as an example for source information. Thanks. // sikander { talk } 🦖 12:43, 30 March 2024 (UTC)
- Yes I have the source link: [1] SamsonM2 (talk) 12:45, 30 March 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks. It seems like the image might not qualify for GODL. Question on EC images
[edit]Hi Sikander, I noticed that you nominated File:Ren - Moedas meeting (2016).jpg for deletion, citing that the scope is for information and education only. I wonder if it overrides the site copyright policy, i.e. falls under the "Unless otherwise indicated" circumstances. Because I may overlook the scope and maybe upload images with such constraints. Thanks. A1Cafel (talk) 14:45, 8 April 2024 (UTC)
- @A1Cafel: There are a bunch of photos with that "information and education only" text. I'll email EC-AudioVisual staff and ask for clarification. They've been excellent in terms of response for all previous inquiries. Cheers. // sikander { talk } 🦖 02:17, 9 April 2024 (UTC)
Hi, Today, I was replying to a question on Commosn:Help desk and it led to that statement "Scopes : Information and education only". (Also, it indirectly involves other files uploaded on 25 May 2022 by the same upoader.) My impression was the same as yours. Then I did a simple search on Commons for the string "Scopes : Information and education only" and it returned only two recent deletion requests by you and a 2023 question on Commons:Bistro. It is very surprising if there are no more discussions about it. Do you know if that statement is something that was only recently systematically added to E.C. photos? -- Asclepias (talk) 16:33, 11 April 2024 (UTC)
- Hi Asclepias, I'm glad we both had the same idea about the text and recently EC staff confirmed that photos with this disclaimer cannot be licensed under CC (see Commons:Deletion requests/File:Ren - Moedas meeting (2016).jpg). I've been tagging photos that have this disclaimer and unfortunately all of them will have to be deleted. Right now there are 4000+ EC images that have yet to be reviewed so not sure when to do a deletion request. Perhaps sooner is better, and please create the deletion nomination request if you want to start the process. Regards. // sikander { talk } 🦖 16:56, 11 April 2024 (UTC)
Review of Category:Photos by Jan Engelhardt
[edit]Hi Sikander,
I saw that you were on the Reviewers group, could you check the category Category:Photos by Jan Engelhardt ? (images like File:Auxiliary building of Supreme People's Assembly in Pyongyang, North Korea.jpg are in waiting of a review).
Would you be willing to review the category ?
Thank you in advance and have a nice day ! — Koreller (talk) 16:27, 7 May 2024 (UTC)
- @Koreller: Sure, looks like there are about 100 images tagged with "Category:Photos by Jan Engelhardt" and "Category:License review needed." I'll go through them but it'll be a slow process because of no direct link to the image. Cheers. // sikander { talk } 🦖 16:57, 7 May 2024 (UTC)

- Also, these posters (1, 2, 3, 4, 5) are located inside Kim Hyong Jik University so probably not CC-BY-SA and wouldn't pass FoP rules. // sikander { talk } 🦖 15:32, 14 May 2024 (UTC)

Photo link on file.
[edit]Hello Sikander,
I searched the website, but I could not find this photo. I searched the names of both persons in the photo, but no success in finding the file photo. Maybe the photo was removed from that website. The current source link is to the wrong photo. See: File:P042303-62209.jpg. Back in April, I thought I found the correct photo and added a link- but that was wrong, so I removed that link. Could you find correct link, when you have time? Thanks, -- Ooligan (talk) 01:28, 16 May 2024 (UTC)
- Hi Ooligan, hmm, that's a shame. Looks like the photo is no longer available on the site at https://audiovisual.ec.europa.eu/en/photo-details/P-042303~2F00-07. I had archived it but that doesn't seem to work either: http://web.archive.org/web/20230307044059/https://audiovisual.ec.europa.eu/en/photo-details/P-042303~2F00-07 However, this link works: https://ec.europa.eu/avservices/avs/files/video6/repository/prod/photo/store/store2/3/P042303-62209.jpg but I can't figure out how to get to a public page. Perhaps they removed it because of possible copyright issues due to Mandela's painting in the background. Cheers. // sikander { talk } 🦖 01:49, 16 May 2024 (UTC)
Can you please help
[edit]Hello @Sikander I hope you are doing good and this request finds you well. You might remember I requested some of my uploads under GODL-India to be reviewed at COM:AN. You did review some along with others. But some were still left. I requested the ones left at one of your fellow License reviewer, he did review some but he isn't too much active these days. I would therefore request you to do the needful. Here is a list:
Thank you in advance. ShaanSenguptaTalk 02:59, 2 June 2024 (UTC)
- Hello @Sikander I am literally sorry for the mess I unwillingly created above with the welcome section. I just thought getting it under a collapsible heading would be good. And I forget that the bot would archive it. Anyways if you think getting it under collapsible header is ok (which helps others access TP more easily) you can do it and can use {{DNAU}} to prevent bot archiving. Also if you can act upon my review request. ShaanSenguptaTalk 15:02, 3 June 2024 (UTC)
- Hi, nothing to be done about it at this point, so it is fine, no worries. For the future I suggest either emailing a user or leaving a message on their talk page before modifying a section of their talk page entirely for your own preference, especially if that content is 17 years old. I'll note that I also made a similar edit once (with the intention of fixing a broken image link on someone's Talk page) and only afterwards realized it was not a good idea.
- I've added the {{DNAU}} tag and a heading so all good now. As for these GODL files, I'm not too familiar with GODL and would prefer to leave them to another experienced reviewer. Good luck to your efforts. // sikander { talk } 🦖 11:48, 4 June 2024 (UTC)

Moreover, interior design requires additional copyright notices. Check: https://newsroom.consilium.europa.eu/about - Do not upload them. --Masur (talk) 15:32, 2 July 2024 (UTC)
- @Masur: Ah ok, sure, however, please note that an argument has been made previously that ALL European Union media can be hosted on Commons because of "Commission Decision of 12 December 2011 on the reuse of Commission documents" and that decision overrides and applies to newsroom.consilium.europa.eu and audiovisual.ec.europa.eu and presumably all other europa.eu sites, unless a media file has explicit text denying the CC license coverage for that specific file, for example: Commons:Deletion requests/File:Floods, Italy.webm. More confusing to me is that the Legal Notice in footer on https://newsroom.consilium.europa.eu/ is a broken 404 page, and the Copyright link on that page goes to https://www.consilium.europa.eu/en/about-site/copyright/ which says "Reproduction is authorised, provided that the Council of the EU is always acknowledged." - @Iwaqarhashmi: Same, and glad you responded. I think more experience is needed because copyright is complicated and differs from country to country (like different rules for 2D works and 3D works) and with only one upload here it is unlikely that you have encountered unexpected issues and gained experienced that way. Round 1 of Picture of the Year 2023 voting is open!
[edit]Dear Wikimedian,
Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2023 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the eighteenth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2023) to produce a single Picture of the Year.
Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.
For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topical categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you may vote for as many images as you like. The top 30 overall and top 5% of most popular images in each category will continue to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just three images to become the Picture of the Year.
Round 1 will end on UTC.
Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee

Feedback on template update
[edit]Hi Sikander, how can we update the template for a website that changed license from CC-BY to CC0? Discussion at Template talk:Communication.gouv.ht. Joofjoof (talk) 05:26, 6 October 2024 (UTC)
- Hi Joofjoof, the license template layout can be edited at Template:Communication.gouv.ht/en with a message informing users that files from this source are now CC0 and not CC-BY. Please see Template:Presidenza della Repubblica/en for a similar license change. Cheers. // sikander { talk } 🦖 14:44, 6 October 2024 (UTC)

[edit]Hi Sikander, I wonder how you can obtain a very large file of File:2024 BRICS Summit (1729758532).jpg, because I can only obtain the one with 1960x1292. P.S. I almost wish to upload the same file but after checking a larger one is already there😂. A1Cafel (talk) 04:25, 26 October 2024 (UTC)
- @A1Cafel: Haha, it took me a while to figure that out because another user replaced my 1960x1292 and 1340x1020 uploads with higher resolution. Change the size in the URL to
Files
and you can get the larger image. You do bring up a good point. Someone uploading the 1960x1292 version would think it is a new upload. So, perhaps the proper way to do this is to upload 1960x1292 first and then replace with HQ. // sikander { talk } 🦖 13:47, 26 October 2024 (UTC)
