TechCrunch

[edit]

per Commons:Deletion requests/Getty Images photos from the TechCrunch Flickr account. There is unclear copyright status for images taken by Getty Images for TechCrunch. Either we need to undelete the files which have previously been deleted following consensus and COM:PRP, or we need to be consistent and delete these as well.

List of files

  • I am guessing you listed these because they appear on the free TechCrunch Flickr account as well as the non-free Getty Images site. And Occam's razor is that TechCrunch mistook the license rather than the other way around. If it were up to me, I would leave the images and answer "it's TechCruch's fault" whenever a lawyer comes to complain. But people here like to be more cautious than that. All I can say is that the image I cam here to "defend", File:Tracy Chou medium.jpg, is indeed on both sites. Connor Behan (talk) 22:14, 12 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
That's one of the reason, the other is the EXIF stating that the copyright owner is "2015 Getty Images" and "Steve Jennings". Prior community consensus (link above) is to treat these as being copyrighted by Getty, and not TechCrunch. But I'd love if that consensus could change/other evidence would be found. --Jonatan Svensson Glad (talk) 22:19, 12 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
The EXIF also says under "Credit/Provider" Getty Images for TechCrunch. --Emir of Wikipedia (talk) 15:36, 15 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • In their site gettyimages selling only copies of the photos not the copyright. In license part they are writing "Photo by Brian Ach/Getty Images for TechCrunch" (see) which is the same wording as in the Flickr stream. So that part looks ok but in the other hand the mention: Credit: Brian Ach / Stringer and Release info: Not released. Does it means that they own the copyright? may be they are only selling copies of photos that are free of copyright? Cant say.
Any way I think it is possible to get some respond from TechCrunch. Not through flickr account but trought thire official site or may be by phone.
Also when the previous DR was issued and copyright status was so unclear, the Flickr account should be added to Flickr black list in the first place. -- Geagea (talk) 23:00, 12 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
