Fair use
[edit]Salut, Gato76680
Hello, Gato76680
I think that, at the french wikipedia, fair use images are allowed (I don't know much about their policies), but here, at Commons, it is not possible. You can read more about our rules at Commons:Licensing. If you consider that fair use is accepted in the french wikipedia, upload the images locally. Thanks for you understanding,
I leave you here our standard wellcome, with lot of useful information,
Our first steps help file and our FAQ will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy. You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold contributing here and assume good faith for the intentions of others. This is a wiki - it is really easy. More information is available at the Community Portal. You may ask questions at the Help desk, Village Pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons. You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at Commons talk:Licensing. |

[edit]Modification des catégories de villes
[edit]Bonjour,
- Montmagny, Val-d'Oise -> Montmagny (Val-d'Oise)
- Marines, Val-d'Oise -> Marines (Val-d'Oise)

Montagny-en-Vexin
[edit]Hi, you blanked Montagny-en-Vexin, but did not give a reason. I have reinstated the page for the moment. If you want the page deleted, please use {{delete|give a reason}}, create the subpage and an entry on the deletion log. The quicklinks are on the template. Thank you. Deadstar 07:50, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
- Hi - I cannot see [[1]] where you said that the picture was not of Montagny-en-Vexin? Anyways - situation is cleared up now. Can you also put a {{speedydelete|empty page}} template on the page so it can be deleted? There's no point in having the page if it's empty. Thanks for your help & kind regards Deadstar 10:05, 23 July 2007 (UTC)
Image Tagging Image:Blason_de_Fertod.jpg
[edit]
Thanks for uploading Image:Blason_de_Fertod.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. If the content is a derivative of a copyrighted work, you need to supply the names and a licence of the original authors as well.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{self|cc-by-sa-2.5}} to release it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license or {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Thank you. - Hi, I notice you deleted this image after sending a message in August. I also notice you are away for a month. You should have thought that you are not the only one that has better things to do than sitting in front of a screen during the summer. Proposing in August photos to be deleted doesn't seem very clever as you know (at least, you should know) that there will probably be no answers. It's like deleting without warning. Try to remember this for next summer and other vacations' times like Yuletide. Thanks. Gato76680
- Hi. I didn't delete this file personally, all I did was tag it as not having a source. Anyhow since files can be restored these things can easily be fixed. If you've got the sufficient source information for the image then all you have to do is got to Commons:Undeletion requests and request that the image be restored. /Lokal_Profil 14:03, 5 September 2007 (UTC)

Please tag your images
[edit]
Thank you for providing images to the Commons. Please keep in mind that images and other files on the Commons must be under a free license and should be useful to the Wikimedia projects. To allow others to use your files, some additional information must be given on the description page. Most importantly:
- Describe what it is about in a short sentence. (What does the image show?)
- State the author and the date of creation. If you made it yourself, say so explicitly. If it is from another Wikipedia user, link to the person's local user page. Best use CommonsHelper
- If you did not create the file yourself, state the source you got it from.
- Add a copyright tag - images without an appropriate license tag will be deleted.
- Add the image to one or more gallery pages and/or appropriate categories, so it can be found by others. To find out where an image belongs, you can use CommonsSense.
If you copied the file from another wiki, please copy all information given there and say who uploaded it to that wiki. Use CommonsHelper.
It is recommended to use Template:Information to put that information on the description page. Have a look at Template talk:Information for details of the use of this template.
You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file.
Please add as much information as possible. If there is not sufficient information, the file may have to be deleted. For more information, follow the Commons:First steps guide. If you need help or have questions, please ask at the Help desk.
Thank you.

File source is not properly indicated: File:Ac.redoubt.jpg
[edit]This media was probably deleted. |
A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:Ac.redoubt.jpg, was missing information about where it comes from or who created it, which is needed to verify its copyright status. The file probably has been deleted. If you've got all required information, request undeletion providing this information and the link to the concerned file (
[[:File:Ac.redoubt.jpg]] ).
If you created the content yourself, enter If someone else created the content, or if it is based on someone else's work, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it, the name and ISBN of the book you scanned it from, or similar. You should also name the author, provide verifiable information to show that the content is in the public domain or has been published under a free license by its author, and add an appropriate template identifying the public domain or licensing status, if you have not already done so. Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing. Please add the required information for this and other files you have uploaded before adding more files. If you need assistance, please ask at the help desk. Thank you! |

Source of derivative work is not properly indicated: File:Pokrajine spodnja stajerska.png
[edit]This file may be deleted. |
A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:Pokrajine spodnja stajerska.png, is a derivative work, containing an "image within an image". Examples of such works would include a photograph of a sculpture, a scan of a magazine cover, or a map that has been altered from the original. In each of these cases, the rights of the creator of the original must be considered, as well as those of the creator of the derivative work.
While the description page states who made this derivative work, it currently doesn't specify who created the original work, so the overall copyright status is unclear. If you did not create the original work depicted in this image, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. Please edit the file description and add the missing information, or the file may be deleted. If you created the original content yourself, enter this information as the source. If someone else created the content, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it, the name and ISBN of the book you scanned it from, or similar. You should also name the author, provide verifiable information to show that the content is in the public domain or has been published under a free license by its author, and add an appropriate template identifying the public domain or licensing status, if you have not already done so. Please add the required information for this and other files you have uploaded before adding more files. If you need assistance, please ask at the help desk. Thank you! |

Category:Buildings in xxx by location / Buildings in xxx by city
[edit]Bonsoir !
Il existe d'ailleurs aussi Category:Buildings in Alpes-de-Haute-Provence by city ou Category:Buildings in Hautes-Alpes by city, créées par d'autres personnes.

[edit]Are you going to populate the subcategories you created under Category:Churches in France by architectural style by department? If they stay empty, they will get deleted. --Auntof6 (talk) 02:42, 22 April 2020 (UTC)
- They will be populated like the others are already. I just created some from missing départements. There is no reason why some would exist and some wouldn't. Already filled them in Occitanie. --Birdie (talk) 10:14, 22 April 2020 (UTC)
- The reason for some existing and others not existing would be if some were empty. We don't create empty categories just to have a complete set. Do you know when the empty categories might be populated?
- By the way, please reply here instead of my talk page. Thanks. --Auntof6 (talk) 14:52, 22 April 2020 (UTC)
- As I wrote, I am filling these categories right now. Every département of France has some churches belonging to one or several styles. I don't create categories for fun but because I feel they are missing. --Birdie (talk) 19:52, 22 April 2020 (UTC)
Welcome, Dear Filemover!
[edit]
Hi Birdie, you're now a filemover. When moving files please respect the following advice:
- Use the CommonsDelinker link in the {{Rename}} template to order a bot to replace all ocurrences of the old title with the new one. Or, if there was no rename-request, please use the Move & Replace-tab.
- Please leave a redirect behind unless you have a valid reason not to do so. Other projects, including those using InstantCommons, might be using the file even though they don't show up in the global usage. Deleting the redirects would break their file references. Please see this section of the file rename guideline for more information.
- Please know and follow the file rename guidelines.

Réponse Départements
[edit]Bonjour. Cordialement. Finoskov (talk) 11:49, 2 July 2020 (UTC)
Buildings in Île-de-France by arrondissement has been listed at Commons:Categories for discussion so that the community can discuss ways in which it should be changed. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry. If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it. If the category is up for deletion because it has been superseded, consider the notion that although the category may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new category. In all cases, please do not take the category discussion personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you! |

2020
[edit]That's true. However "the 2020s" clearly means the years 2020-2029. Check here. --Botev (talk) 19:03, 2 November 2020 (UTC)
- Then why don't you put the category "built in 2020" into two decade-related categories instead? It doesn't make sense. Anyway, it only makes mess on Wikipedia. It's not always math that matters. Categories are there to help people find relevant media - the 2020s mean the years 2020-2029. --Botev (talk) 09:55, 3 November 2020 (UTC)
- Maths too. You start counting with the year 1 AD so the first decade of the Christian calendar era ends with the year 10 AD, by counting further into the future you get the years 2011-2020 as the second decade of the 21st century. That's what you're trying to say. However, if people say the 1980s or 1970s they actually mean the years 1980-1989 or 1970-1979, respectively. Noone would say the year 1980 was in the 1970s. That's how it works - not my fault and not according to mathematical rules of counting decades from the beginning of the calendar era. --Botev (talk) 21:15, 3 November 2020 (UTC)

Chapelles de cimetières
[edit]Bonjour Birdie. Tu as créé la Category:Cemetery chapels in Dordogne. Merci d'avance. Père Igor (talk) 10:28, 28 February 2021 (UTC)
Catégorisation et modèle

Île-de-France in the 13th century has been listed at Commons:Categories for discussion so that the community can discuss ways in which it should be changed. Thank you! |

- Do you think something like the setup I did for Category:2015 in Auvergne/Category:2016 in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes (if the redirects are deleted so it's straight 2015/2016) would be better? It's a bit of work but I think the categories would clear things up a bit. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 23:44, 19 April 2021 (UTC)

Why change the flag size?
[edit]Why, if the standard il 25px? See any other template of the same type, if you feel it is more useful to the Project that the flag looks bigger get a consensus and let's do it for all states, if it is just your aesthetic POV I'm afraid you have to step back.--Threecharlie (talk) 03:24, 21 October 2021 (UTC)
- Unfortunately Commons is not a wiki, there are no thematic discussion bars and there are no pages upon pages of rules and conventions, but I follow common sense and if I find a predominant number of templates where a flag size is used I tend to keep that. I hope you don't mind if I ask for confirmation to an admin who has been dealing with flags (and their relative sizes) on theme templates for a long time. @Blackcat: , please, give us an opinion based on your experience. :-) --Threecharlie (talk) 13:44, 21 October 2021 (UTC)
Yes, I wish to know the same, too: why change a common sense and assessed size? -- Blackcat 18:16, 21 October 2021 (UTC)
- Well, for one you guys are funny is a personal attack. And you know the consequence of such behaviour. -- Blackcat 08:09, 22 October 2021 (UTC)

Nobc
[edit]There's no reason for this type of edits because as we can see in Monuments and memorials in Germany by century, there are indeed no BC categories. But to make it more simpler, I made template {{Monuments and memorials in Germany by century}} so if some BC category finally appears, then it's enough to remove nobc from template, instead of changing every single century. :) --Orijentolog (talk) 17:08, 27 May 2022 (UTC)
- Hah, no criticizing, just advising. :) I really appreciate your chronological categorization efforts. Anyway, the point here is not do BC monuments exist in some country, but do we have categories of it or not. For sure there are BC monuments in (let's say) France, however there's no any categories for them yet, that's why nobc=1 stays in template. Of course I'm thinking about future, that's why I made templates for every individual country. Therefore, if BC monuments appear for some country, like recently for Italy, you'll need to make just one edit (like here). --Orijentolog (talk) 06:48, 30 May 2022 (UTC)
- Hi again. Thanks for the compliment. In fact, with the template you created for Italy, just one change is needed to show centuries b4 Christ. But in some other cases, it's the "subject by century" template that is used and then, every page has to be changed and they could now be 21! The template is really more practical! Birdie (talk) 07:01, 30 May 2022 (UTC)
- Not any more! :) After I sent you message above (three days ago), I made the same templates for all other countries (20 templates in total). I spent a hour or two, so you'll spend only a second for changing in future. :) --Orijentolog (talk) 07:07, 30 May 2022 (UTC)
- Faleminderit! Very kind of you. But this concerns just the monuments and memorials categories. Most of the categories didn't find yet someone like you to take care of their century templates. Have a nice day. Birdie (talk) 07:26, 30 May 2022 (UTC)

Buildings in England photographed
[edit]If you are going to create Buildings in England photographed category, you should also do a null edit to the Buildings in London photographed subcategories so that they get moved there. Ricky81682 (talk) 03:22, 8 January 2023 (UTC)
Hi, Buildings in England... Category was already existing for several years, especially the latest ones so I started to move the Buildings in London... category to England. Most of the time, London was put in both categories which is a typical case of overcategorisation. If I remember correctly, t'il now, I have done the move until 1960 or a little earlier. Birdie (talk) 16:15, 8 January 2023 (UTC)
- I think I set it up so that the London ones would go into the UK one if the England one wasn't created. It made more sense than just creating a bunch of England ones that would only hold the London ones. I wonder if we should merge those London categories upward so it's not just layers of empty categories. Ricky81682 (talk) 00:12, 11 January 2023 (UTC)

Something small
[edit]Please don't mind this revert but unofficial rule for Iran's metacats is "pyramid-down" system of ordering, means wider tracks go on top, while shorter below.
By the way, recently I created Template:Landtransportyear and Template:Land transport year by country (withs tens of their cats), to help you a little. :) --Orijentolog (talk) 17:04, 29 March 2023 (UTC)

Grand Est
[edit]Bonjour. Cordialement, Gzen92 (talk) 07:47, 4 July 2023 (UTC)
- Bonjour Gz...
Cordialement Gzen92 (talk) 09:03, 4 July 2023 (UTC).

How to ask for speedy-delete of an empty category
[edit]When you want to ask for speedy-delete of an empty category, best practice is to mark it with either:
- {{SD|C2}} ("unuseful empty category") if it would be OK to re-create it in the future, given that appropriate content becomes available
- {{SD|C1}} ("improperly named category") if it is an inappropriate category name that should not be reused (e.g. typos).
You could also use:
- {{speedy|empty, misspelled category name}}
The above templates expand to full speedy deletion requests.
In particular, this is better practice than just blanking the category page, as you did at Category:17855 works in Pays de la Loire. ("C1" and "C2" come from Commons:Criteria for speedy deletion).
Thank you. (This is a standardized talk page message)-

Thank you! |

Hi Birdie, what is this supposed to be? A mistake maybe? I guess you wanted to create Category:1755 in Saarland by city and similar categories. Regards, --Kleeblatt187 (talk) 20:19, 22 October 2024 (UTC)
Hi, This category is not empty, so it can't be deleted. And your request is malformed. Yann (talk) 16:50, 1 November 2024 (UTC)
