Hello, I need the autopatrol role to be able to contribute to the Lingua Libre project, a French Wikimedia project, where you record your voice saying a list of words, and it automatically upload it to Wikimedia Commons. The problem is that the upload is limited to 400 words/h because of the Wikimedia Commons upload limitation, this is why I am asking for the autopatrol role. PS : Yesterday an admin denied my request and said i should use a bot instead, I can't use a bot to contribute to the LinguaLibre project, it is not an automated task, every word is recorded manually by me. Thanks a lot. Mecanautes (talk) 13:30, 8 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I am trying to add recordings to wiki pages of classical compositions, e.g. en:Symphony No. 9 (Dvořák). In particular, I would like to upload permissible MP3 files from en:IMSLP, e.g. the DuPage recording here, which is licensed under Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0. I could convert those files to .ogg, but converting a lossy format into another lossy format will result in further quality degradation. I am familiar with licensing, i.e. that CC NC, ND, Non-PD US are not allowed on Commons. Thank you. intforce (talk) 17:15, 10 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I've uploaded several thousand audio recordings and have several thousand more to upload, so I'd like to have autopatrol so my uploads don't add to "new files" list. The audio files are pronunciations of Swahili words that I'm doing with a friend (with proper CC BY-SA licensing and OTRS approval). Apart from these recordings, I've only made minor contributions to Wikimedia projects (my minor Wikipedia contributions go back several years, though). I am, however, a well known open source developer who knows about licensing, community, etc. Thank you. MartinMichlmayr (talk) 13:27, 12 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@RoundSquare: What have you learned from Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by RoundSquare? Please sign your posts.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 03:52, 5 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Jeff G.: I learned several important things from those batch of files. Firstly, I learned that just because something seems like free media because of a statement like "intended for media and public use and may be freely reproduced" does not necessarily mean that a piece of media actually belongs on Wikimedia Commons. Knowing specific copyright licenses is important, and a statement like that won't actually provide you with the license. Secondly, I learned that, especially when dealing with media made after 1926, one should understand the reason why a piece of media has its license. It is important to know this, so that one can identify if a piece of media has been labeled with false copyright information. Thirdly, and most importantly, I learned where to ask questions about copyright. I have learned quite a bit about copyright through my days on Wikimedia, but I am far from a copyright expert. Now, when I encounter something with questionable copyright status, I know to go to this page, as I have done a few times now. — RoundSquare (talk) 15:14, 5 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@RoundSquare: Thanks, I am glad to read that. Please note that COM:VPC is a more Commons-specific resource than en:WP:CQ.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 23:49, 5 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose Thank you for your support @Yug: . I am using Commons "by the way"; I don't stay here long enough to know all the customs. So I don't feel super comfortable on Commons to have that right. On this occasion, I also hope that people impatient to block on AGF will not rush to my next mistake. Autopatrolled rights is merely saying that your own edits are trustworthy, and that you can upload more. Without this rights, you are at risk to lose recorded files, so granting you these user rights help Commons' core goal. Yug (talk) 20:53, 1 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

A) I'm a Patroller (not autopatroller but more or less the same thing) and I'n not able to upload them
and B) I asked here and was told I was correct (that MP3 files cannot be uploaded and being (auto)patroller make no difference (and I do recall somewhere being told they cannot be uploaded due to copyright issues (think it was something about the coding or codecs being copyrighted))
so I personally would've declined purely on the basis that they want this for something that it doesn't actually do or help with.... Thanks, –Davey2010Talk 08:50, 20 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi rubin16, FWIW there was a user group years ago called MP3 uploaders[1] which got renamed to Commons:Extended uploaders (I don't know if the rename had something to do with MP3 files or whether it was for another reason entirely)
Unless I'm doing it wrong I did search for ".mp3" and ".mp4" and it only brings back images with either in them whereas if you search ".ogg" or .webm" it brings up audio/video files.
In regards to the users error above and the page you linked too - My biggest hunch is that maybe years ago MP3/4 files were allowed here, at some point they stopped being accepted - but nothing was updated ?, I've never known those files to be accepted here and honestly I don't ever remember uploading them. Many Thanks, Warm Regards, –Davey2010Talk 10:18, 20 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I'd like to be able to upload more files at once with Upload Wizard because I've been trying to use flickr2commons but it doesn't detect duplicates. I've uploaded over 100 files and I haven't had any copyright-related issues. Thank you. -sasha- (talk) 11:18, 10 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I work mainly in vi.wp but sometimes I go to commons to check and put a delete tag on copyvio images uploaded by vi.wp users. I also actively investigate socks from vi.wp in commons and open many spi cases here. My main uploading activity in this project is uploading CC-BY images of Vietnamese famous people from YouTube. I hope to get this right to reduce the burden on commons patrollers. Thanks. ⁂๖ۣۜJon ๖ۣۜDaenerys໖ 10:21, 29 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I have uploaded more than 1000 images taken by me, and recently imported over 2000 free images from Flickr. I am importing more images from Flickr and also plan on to upload audio files for lingua libre, so please assign me the auto-patrolled right. I know very well about the various upload policies, COM:SCOPE, COM:Licensing, COM:HIRTLE, etc. Thank you. —Vis M (talk) 17:12, 17 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! I'm currently uploading many BSicons at once, but the UploadWizard limits me to 50 simultaneous uploads. This is inconvenient because there are 68 colors which I would like to upload at once. Could I please have autopatrolled so that I am not affected by this limit? I am familiar with the project scope, and I believe I am trusted enough to not vandalise with this right. Yes. I have set as a goal to record 400 audios per day for the the next 12 months. That would be a total of 146.000 audios. However, the current limit does not allow me to contribute as I would like.

Hello.

I have made numerous contributions while working on Wikimedia Commons.

None of these numerous contributions were vandalism, and therefore all my contributions are not vandalism.

So I think it's good to have the autopatrol user right.
