Minbar decorations - Spain (Cordoba) - 1137 - Louvre - 74.1969.5.1-5.jpg

[edit]

Cordialement, --Faqscl (talk) 17:57, 11 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Robert Prazeres (talk) 18:17, 11 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Bonne continuation. Bien cordialement. --Faqscl (talk) 09:29, 12 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

chandelier aux canards

[edit]

Cordialement--Faqscl (talk) 12:00, 12 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Robert Prazeres (talk) 18:21, 12 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
merci !--Faqscl (talk) 18:26, 12 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Robert Prazeres (talk) 06:36, 13 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Dommage !

Thanks for uploading File:Cave of Patriarchs mimbar.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.

Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own).

The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded ([[:File:Cave of Patriarchs mimbar.jpg]]) and the above demanded information in your request.

Yeah I was trying out the transfer process from Wikipedia to Commons for the first time so I may have missed it. I proceeded under the assumption that Dustinroyer was the author and had already provided permission when they uploaded the file and specified a CC license (as per the history there), but if I'm wrong then indeed I can't help further. No objection to deleting it if needed. Thanks for checking. R Prazeres (talk) 06:43, 18 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Autopatrol given

[edit]

Hello. I just wanted to let you know that I have granted autopatrol rights to your account; the reason for this is that I believe you are sufficiently trustworthy and experienced to have your contributions automatically marked as "reviewed". This has no effect on your editing, it is simply intended to make it easier for users that are monitoring Recent changes or Recent uploads to find unproductive edits amidst the productive ones like yours. In addition, the Flickr upload feature and an increased number of batch-uploads in UploadWizard, uploading of freely licensed MP3 files, overwriting files uploaded by others and an increased limit for page renames per minute are now available to you. Thank you. -- CptViraj (talk) 15:24, 15 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

As I told you a year ago, I cleaned up both Hammams in Iran and Baths in Iran, particularly named hammams. --Orijentolog (talk) 06:34, 11 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the work! Look forward to browsing through them in the future. Cheers, R Prazeres (talk) 16:33, 11 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
You're welcome. Just to remind you, if you open category of any particular hammam, lets say Jarchi Hammam, there's always an infobox with many details, and if you open it's Wikidata item, you'll see that every such detail is referenced. Now Commons is stronger than English Wikipedia (see this pity article with incorrect data: en:Jarchi hammam). :) After this fact-checking is done, it's quite easy to make or expand existing wiki articles. Regarding hammams in other countries, it's an utter mess, unfortunately. --Orijentolog (talk) 01:54, 12 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, the more you look around Wiki the more you see things that need fixing :P Hopefully over time things will get better and better, it's just a matter of someone having the time to sort through it all eventually. Cheers, R Prazeres (talk) 04:54, 12 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Image use

[edit]

Hello, I noticed several images I uploaded related to architecture were nominated for deletion due to copyright. I believe I may have misunderstood the Wikipedia rules for image use especially the public domain section. I would greatly appreciate if you would be able to give a brief example or explanation for finding a picture that I can use without violating Wikipedia rules, for example I recently created a page for a dish called Mchawcha and there are no photos for it on commons. I am currently interested in contributing to pages or creating pages related to Algerian cuisine which would involve images that are not available on commons and I would like to upload images without violating any Wikipedia rules.

Thanks, Kabz15 (talk) 21:21, 1 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Kabz15. A quick summary of what you can upload can be found on this page. Basically, the important thing to remember is that most of the images you can find on the internet or in books are protected by copyright, even when it's not explicitly stated. Every image was created by somebody, and that person (or group/organisation) owns the copyright to that image by law, unless they clearly say otherwise.
I didn't review all of your uploads (I mostly reviewed those that came from sources I recognized), but I noticed that many of the more recent images you uploaded of kaftans and other clothing were also taken from the internet. Those images should therefore most likely be deleted as well.
If helpful, here are some other quick points to keep in mind:
  • Photographs of copyrighted content, such as artwork or creative productions of any kind, is also protected and can't be uploaded, even if you took the photograph. The exception to this of course is artwork that is old enough that its copyright has expired and is now in the public domain. You can find more details about this and about copyright rules at this page (and this page might be useful too). Remember that if the picture is in the public domain but you didn't create it yourself, you must still provide the source and the original author, otherwise it will falsely show that you are the author. You can add this information during the upload process.
  • Some images on the internet are licensed by the author in a way that they are free to reuse and modify. You can read about this at this page. Those pictures can be uploaded to Wiki Commons, but you have to be sure that they are properly licensed. If you're unsure about a picture's license, assume it's not compatible for upload here. One place you can look for this is on Flickr, for example. There you can search for pictures and you can restrict your search to show only "Commercial use & mods allowed" pictures, which are usually compatible for upload on Wiki Commons. Read through this page for more information about that and make sure you understand the rules before doing this. If you're interested in uploading pictures from Flickr, you can also consider using the Flickr2Commons tool: it takes a bit of time to learn and get used to it, but once you do it can be very helpful.
There are lots of subjects on Wikimedia for which there are no pictures or no good pictures available on Commons. That's just the way it is. Unless you have your own pictures to upload, there's usually not much you can do about it for now. You have to wait until someone comes along and shares their own pictures freely. You can still contribute to Wikipedia articles about those topics, but you have to accept that there aren't always helpful pictures available to add.
I hope some of this is helpful. Sincerely, R Prazeres (talk) 22:26, 1 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the reply, although I am still a bit confused this was helpful and informative. I will also take a look at Flickr thanks for the tip. One last question: if an image on a museum website provides the name of the author of the photo and/or the publication for instance here would it be ok to upload?
Thanks, Kabz15 (talk) 01:11, 2 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I'm glad it was a little helpful. To answer your question for that example: no it's not ok to upload, because copyright belongs to the author of the photo. Unless there's something there that clearly says the picture is available for reuse under an appropriate Creative Commons license (the type of license Wikimedia uses that allows for reuse and modification by other users), all rights are reserved for the author. Even if it's a picture of an ancient object, the picture itself is considered the creative work of the photographer, so it belongs to him/her. (And of course, if there's no author identified, it's still copyright-protected; it's up to you (as the uploader) to have proof that the picture is available under the appropriate license or in the public domain.) R Prazeres (talk) 01:38, 2 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
PS: I noticed that for this example from the museum, there's a link to inquire about reusing/reproducing the picture (where it says "Pour toute demande de reproduction veuillez contacter la photothèque.") That usually implies that the museum could agree to let an author use the picture for a particular academic or educational book, for example, but it's unlikely (though not impossible) that they would agree to release the picture under a less restrictive license, which is what would be necessary for use on Wikipedia/Wiki Commons. R Prazeres (talk) 01:48, 2 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Perfect, that pretty much sums up what I needed to know. Once again thanks for the help.

Notification about possible deletion

[edit]
Some contents have been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether they should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at their entry.

If you created these pages, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with them, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Move option

[edit]

Dear Wikimedian, I often come across your work. Today I saw you wrote texts implying the pictures like File:Church of St. George - 3rd Century AD - Diyarbakir - Turkey - 04 (5780927420).jpg had a wrong name. I came to the same conclusion and asked for the names to be renamed. I wondered if you are aware of that renaming option. If you are you can stop reading. But maybe you’re not. On my screen there are "Options" to the right of a line under a picture's name, and one of those options is "Move". That starts a procedure where an edit is made that asks a file mover to rename a picture. I unfortunately make many typos myself and often use it to change my own errors. As the "original uploader" I fill in 1 at option 2 and usually the correction is made within a day. I think option 3, for “obvious errors” takes some controlling, but at least the request to change the name is obvious to viewers in a panel that appears under the picture. There are so many errors in Commons that it is well worth the trouble. Dosseman (talk) 13:31, 25 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Dosseman, I don't know if I missed this or if I saw it earlier and forgot to reply, but a belated thanks for the tip. I'll keep this in mind for the future. Thank you also for your great work and uploads on Commons as well; among other things, it has made my job easier when editing related topics on Wikipedia. Cheers, R Prazeres (talk) 18:42, 12 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
In Dutch the phrase is "better late than never". The tip remains valid. Thanks for the compliments. I am now editing my own site about Edirne, that I recently visited. I warned in a speech I made in October at the Wikipedia Turkish conference to always check and double check and even now I find I have made mistakes that I must correct. On my own site changing names is easy, in Wiki-world a bit more difficult. As for pictures: I find the ones you took very, very good. Thanks for that. Dosseman (talk) 18:48, 12 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Excellent! Thanks again, R Prazeres (talk) 18:51, 12 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Seljuk architecture

[edit]

Hi R Prazeres! :) I noticed that you're planning to separate Seljuk architecture on en.wiki and I think it's an useful idea. Just please tell me few things: should categories here on Commons stay as they are: Seljuk architecture for Great Seljuk architecture and Architecture of the Sultanate of Rûm for Anatolian Seljuk architecture? Do you plan to have two articles on Wiki or three (one general plus two local)? This concerns Wikidata, and I'll gladly help if reorganization there is needed. Till now I organized over 150 Seljuk sites in Iran (both on Commons and Wikidata).

By the way, I just saw the list of articles which you made/expanded and I have no words... simply mind-blowing. Congrats! :) --Orijentolog (talk) 13:54, 18 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Orijentolog, thanks for your kind message! My plan at Wiki is to have two new specific articles (no overview article), and the title Seljuk architecture would be a DAB linking just those two topics. Thanks for thinking about Wikidata; I'm not entirely sure how to go about reorganizing things there, so any help would indeed be appreciated post-split. In Commons, I see Architecture of the Sultanate of Rûm is currently embedded under Seljuk architecture via Seljuk architecture in Turkey; I suppose this can still work, but it might still be clearer to follow the same process by moving Seljuk architecture to "Architecture of the Great Seljuks" or "Great Seljuk architecture" (I was thinking either of those names could work for the Wiki article). They would both remain connected (via several layers of parent categories) to Seljuk dynasty, but they could otherwise be separated and autonomous from each other, which thematically makes sense. R Prazeres (talk) 15:24, 18 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Update: I've performed the split on the English wiki. @Orijentolog: I'm unsure in particular what to do at the Wikidata item Seljuk architecture (Q7448523), seeing as it's linked to many non-English Wikis where the topics are still combined in one place. It's not urgent, but if you have any insight, let me know, or feel free to update it as you think is best. In the meantime, I've created Anatolian Seljuk architecture (Q127632740). R Prazeres (talk) 21:08, 20 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Well, here I would oppose any category named as "Architecture of X" because that's not preferred naming on Commons and it makes issues with top templates (e.g. {{Western architectural styles}} all have "X architecture"), however, I'm fine with having "Great Seljuk architecture" in future. At the moment, things may (temporary) stay as they are, with explanations in infoboxes and templates {{Distinguish}} in categories. It's not a big issue considering the wiki naming of two former countries, en:Seljuk Empire and en:Sultanate of Rum, the former had title "Great Seljuk Empire" until recently. The similar situation is with Roman and Byzantine architecture. Regarding Wikidata, by time I'll insert the newly created item (Q127632740) as an architectural style around. --Orijentolog (talk) 04:45, 21 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ok thanks! Should we simply move Category:Architecture of the Sultanate of Rûm to Category:Anatolian Seljuk architecture for consistency now? R Prazeres (talk) 16:15, 22 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
PS: Another non-urgent issue that may need consideration is that Category:Seljuk architecture in Turkey and Category:Architecture of the Sultanate of Rûm are essentially identical in scope, so there's some messiness that may need sorting out. For the purposes of getting everything under one parent category, I've embedded the former under the latter, but it might also be simpler to eliminate the former and have the latter be the parent category for all purposes. R Prazeres (talk) 16:24, 22 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
