Doubtful this is the uploaders own work and even if it is the images they chopped together are probably otherwise copyrighted. I don't think the image could be kept based on a fan art or similar rational either. Adamant1 (talk) 07:45, 20 July 2022 (UTC)

- Speedy Delete - Image is explicitly copyrighted. The uploader appears to be just claiming everything uploaded as own work and copyright holder. For example, they claimed File:Karpov in 1979. png.jpg as their own work but it is in fact a low res crop of File:Anatoly Karpov 1979.jpg. Claim to being the copyright holder isn't at all plausible.-- Whpq (talk) 17:12, 20 July 2022 (UTC)

- Comment, I think that we need to ask to the original website for which is the license of this file. According with {{PD-Portugal-URAA}} and {{PD-Portugal-photo}}, only photographs taken before July 1970 are PD. This image, according with its information, is dated 1974, so it's still copyrighted in Portugal. We need to verify if the Museum of the Presidence of the Portuguese Republic allows the use of this photograph under a free license. Also, I would be able to inform that the uploader of this file, Ser.Silv., is treating to remove the deletion notice from the file and altering the source –see [1] and [2]– after being informed by me two days ago that this is not appropiate.

[edit]There are two issues here: 1) Copyright status. These images are either photos of the subject, which require permission from the photographer, or album covers, which require permission from the designer, to be sent to COM:VRT. 2) COM:SCOPE. The images are not in use on any Wikimedia projects, and it is unclear whether there is any educational use for them since the subject does not appear to be notable.

- --Vladan Radmilović (talk) 12:00, 22 April 2012 (UTC)I fail to see how the quoted article of Lebanese law forbids usage of images listed on Wikimedia. In fact, it explicitly states that images of public works are allowed to be published in the media without authorization or compensation of the original author. Also, the link to the relevant article is dead.
- Please note that Commons only accepts image which are free to use by anyone, anytime, for any purpose. It is not sufficient for images that Wikimedia is allowed to use them. —Wuzur 13:30, 22 April 2012 (UTC)
- I would think the legislator here introduced this clause with the idea that it would be deemed a FOP clause. It's meant to ease restrictions, and although the choice of "media" arguably limits the scope of that easing, I would think that if the scope were meant to be restricted it would be commercial media that would be restricted not non-commercial users. Your position, WUZUR, must be that commercial media can take these photos but private citizens cannot and I think this is odd enough that your interpretation is prima facie doubtful. One only gets a restriction on the scope of this clause by drawing an inference which is logically and linguistically possible but not necessary in the context of the apparent legislative intent and the fact there's limited evidence that the English or even non-English legislation here is meant to be interpreted so precisely.--Brian Dell (talk) 07:37, 24 April 2012 (UTC)
- I would like to draw your attention to the discussion which led to the rule which is now in force on Wikimedia Commons. According to WMF's licensing policy which refers to the Definition of Free Cultural Works ("freedoms should be available to anyone, anywhere, anytime") no restrictions whatsoever on the possible user is allowed for media files hosted here. I know no definition of "media" which includes every possible use-case (in that case the legislator could have written "anyone" which is done in other articles of the same law). Note that a) the French translation is more restricted to "news media" (unfortunately I don't know any Arabic to read the original) and b) the Berne convention also defines possible exceptions for news media only. As long as the Commons' policy remains these images have to be deleted. To change the policy you need to prove that the accepted interpretation of this law in the Lebanon is less restrictive than ours. —Wuzur 13:00, 24 April 2012 (UTC)

[edit]There is no acceptable freedom of panorama in Lebanon. Legally-binding free uses of public works and art in Lebanon are for mass media only (i.e., mainstream media + TV media + movies, not new/digital media as well as content creators' media). Therefore, all these commercially-licensed images violate architect Azmi Fakhouri's copyright. The building was incepted in 2008 according to the English Wikipedia article. All images do not show the work in an incidental (de minimis) way.

Moved from Commons:Help desk
Hello I have only just joined commons and have contributed half dozen items. Now, I have chosen to add material to human body, content which I know is always controversial at most times.. however the video excerpts were put into the correct categories, and text descriptions were added, which I believe are appropriate to subject. In fact the descriptions are brief well written descriptions, of medical terminology, which should give credibility. This should therefore fit well the remit on educational focus for commons. I know this topic is always a talking point in human society ( even these days!) But I wish it to be know I did not just put on ( as has been suddenly hinted at) "porn".. which it is NOT. I placed on edited, cropped transcripts of real life biological processes, on male body, in a way which I believe fits in with existing material on commons. I note also that the site has many sexual items on already, and when I was considering placing items on myself, I took into account these other items; but then decided that there was a space for my own editions too. My videos deal with natural sexual functions in a direct but well filmed manner; they are clear, edited, described, and partially cropped to protect the male models identity as well. I do have editing experience and media knowledge also; so I should know what I am doing. They are short educational mini films, not based in a studio with arc lamps, filters, nor glamour models.. instead a real body really seen as it is. I note many other sexual images on site; which I find much more offensive..I shall not name the page; for example a male dropping his trousers and relieving himself in a public park, by a lake ! Do you call that educational? Or what of the many other more dubious subjects currently on the pages? Some I would say are barely legal. And besides.. much more genuinely pornographic than anything I could have imagined. And yet my half dozen productions are deemed so awfully rude, they are apparently now PORN ! This I find grossly insulting; to be made out as the odd one out in the equation. In fact i find the comments discriminatory in the normal sense of the word. But what difference will it make if my few items are deleted? Because the rest of the genuine porn on commons will remain .. and if a certain immunity has built up for them alone; and the rest? Heaven knows ! Finaly I again restate my objections to be made out as having put PORN on this site. That is an objectionable thought, and I would ask that remark is immediately removed Please leave the few items on site; there is (by page views) a need for people to see and learn from them, as they already do on all the other categories too. I trust the (imagined) democratic process will leave ultimate decision on this matter in the hands of more than ONE administrator? But as with most democracies; I hold little hope ! Please reply to my concerns swiftly. Yours hopefully; Dissappointed User longlinbs109 Possibly soon to be exiting Commons? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Longlinbs109 (talk • contribs) 01:35, 23 July 2022 (UTC) |
- If I count correctly, we have less than a hundred files in Category:Videos of male ejaculation and relevant subcategories. I didn't do any thorough check, but it seems the ones discussed here aren't the most typical ones. With such a low number, it is obvious that we don't have the diversity that we'd want to have, so these are redundant only if they are near-identical to some of better quality. I also think that "quality" here may be a misleading quality. These files do not compete with professionally done ones suitable on their own, but rather as one in a collection.
I agree that these are a bit odd and not that well done, but please link to specific files these are redundant with. They are different, so the redundancy needs to be shown file by file; I might agree for some of them, I didn't take a look but of a few.
–LPfi (talk) 17:11, 23 July 2022 (UTC)
- when you have seen one ejaculation, you have seen them all. 44 is still a lot, but the number isn’t the point; we have enough files to successfully illustrate the topic. “Diversity” is irrelevant excuse-making; why not upload files in a category that actually needs them like Category:Phone sex? Dronebogus (talk) 17:42, 23 July 2022 (UTC)
- Not true, which should be obvious. For phone sex: if you don't do that, it is difficult to create media fitting the category. [removed rant, as asked for]. –LPfi (talk) 10:06, 24 July 2022 (UTC)
- This isn’t quality media; it may be in good faith but it’s blurry and badly lit. File:Globe and Nude; human body in movement movie.webm is also totally useless educationally and should be deleted as such separate from the others. Your complaint about the category system seems irrelevant to this particular point, please don’t make people slog through paragraphs of side commentary. Dronebogus (talk) 19:37, 24 July 2022 (UTC)
- Sorry for the rant, I now removed it. Neither I understand what the globe could be used for (at least it would need a category and description putting it in some sensible context). I assume also some other images are useless or redundant, such as Sequence showing five stages of ejaculation.png (we have much better media on that), but I don't want to wade through Category:Erect human penis to find one similar to A healthy erect human penis.jpg, although I assume it is redundant. –LPfi (talk) 07:32, 25 July 2022 (UTC)

COPYVIO. The four files from 2011 are marked {own}, but this is unlikely. The date given is the upload date, but the fotos are actually much older. Exif is short and strange. Two of the images from 2018 are very small with strange Exif. The two newest may be authentic, but have been taken in the night by exif data, but without flash. Naming scheme follows that of the copyvio images. Maybe the author can elaborate.

This version was uploaded by the uploader as their version of the flag where there no evidence has been provided that it is the correct version. There was a consensus on the talk page if the Wikipedia article that the version 'Flag of the Isle of Man.svg' is likely to be correct as a supporting reference was available. 86.131.235.171 12:23, 20 July 2022 (UTC)
- Even if the positioning of the triskelion were correct, the flag is still incorrect as the back part of the three legs are grey on the real flag not white as shown. 86.131.235.171 12:26, 20 July 2022 (UTC)
- Keep This is obvious retaliation by the IP because of my reverting their vandalism on Road signs in the United Kingdom. This file and File:Flag of the Isle of Man.svg are both sourced in regards to their alignments of the triskelion, and co-exist. I therefore ask that this be speedily closed. Fry1989 eh? 15:18, 20 July 2022 (UTC)
- No, I was reverting your vandalism because you kept making a claim without providing any evidence for doing so. You only provided evidence on your third revert. 109.155.148.172 17:35, 21 July 2022 (UTC)
- I inserted no claims one way or the other into the article, my revision simply explained the meaning of the signs. It was your revision which added a statement that exception plates could not be used with these two signs, a statement which was not true. You did not become interested in this image until after our interaction on Road signs in the United Kingdom. The two topics are entirely unrelated, which leaves me no other alternative than to view this as retaliation. Fry1989 eh? 17:49, 21 July 2022 (UTC)
- No, I was reverting your vandalism because you kept making a claim without providing any evidence for doing so. You only provided evidence on your third revert. 109.155.148.172 17:35, 21 July 2022 (UTC)
- That's just pure bullshit. My point was (and still is) in the legislation. You contradicted the legislation without evidence in your first two reverts. That's vandalism.
- Your edit history exists for a reason. It is so that your contributions can be scrutinised. Seeing that you were making claims without proof, I (and anyone else) is free to scrutinise your edits. That scrutiny turned up this debacle as a further example where you have completely made the flag up without valid evidence (and you are not alone). 109.155.148.172 13:08, 22 July 2022 (UTC)
Anyway to the subject. This image should be deleted because it is completely wrong. I e-mailed the Isle of Man government yesterday and to my astonishment, I received a reply this morning. They referred me to their official flag makers, the Flag Institute, who are apparently the authority for flags all over the world and anyone who makes flags is supposed to be a member of this organisation. (who knew that vexillology is the study of flags?)
They kindly sent me a dimensioned picture, which as an IP, I cannot upload (it has a copyright message on it anyway). However the pertinent information shows that both this and [File:Flag of the Isle of Man.svg] are totally incorrect.
The correct flag has an aspect ratio of 3:5 (not 2:1) as both images are currently. For a flag width of 100 units and a height of 60 units, the centre of the yellow 'Y' at the centre of the triskelion is 32 units from the bottom edge of the flag (or 53.5% of the height) - this means that the triskelion is neither equidistant from the top and bottom nor is the circumscribing circle centred. The man flag is approx 51% and mann version just over 55.5%, both wrong. The next issue is that the Isle of Man flag is a five colour flag not a four. The backs of the three legs along with bottom the three feet are grey not white. To complete, the triskelion should be orientated such that the legs point clockwise and the tip of the right hand foot is level with the tip of the junction between the grey and white part of the left hand foot. The triskelion in this flag is not only rotated incorrectly but bears only superficial resemblance to the correct one. 109.155.148.172 17:35, 21 July 2022 (UTC)
- The flag institute have a web site and I found the flag illustrated here. We cannot upload their image because of the copyright message (is the flag itself copyright?). 109.155.148.172 17:48, 21 July 2022 (UTC)
- Does it not matter at all that the flag you linked isn't flown anywhere on the island itself? The government building in Douglas ("wedding cake") flies a 4-coloured flag, which is the same as the one flown over Castle Rushen and all along multiple promenades. Both the "...man.svg" and "...mann.svg" variants are flown, along with other variants, but never the one linked and rarely a 5-coloured version.
- In any case, I hardly thing it's right to depend on a website run by a British charity when a simple look at the nearest flag actually flown on the island could tell you that, at the very least, the de facto flag is different to that which they display. Most flags flown here show the one currently on the article, so it should be left alone. 178.16.6.216 20:37, 25 July 2022 (UTC)
- As far as Wikipedia is concerned (where the image is used), looking at a flag flown anywhere is regarded as original research which is not permitted. Wikipedia goes by reliable sources, and a source identified by the Isle on Man government must be regarded as reliable. Funny how the Flag Institute has accurate relative dimensions and positioning whereas, if you are to be believed, the Isle of Man itself flies any old piece of rag. Practically every other country in the world is very particular about what gets flown as a national flag. — Preceding unsigned comment was added by 109.155.148.172 (talk) 12:41, 29 July 2022 (UTC)
- Sounds like it may depend on the flag makers there. That triskelion looks tricky to get just right, so while one flag maker does it one way, another does it a different way, and so on. People are just flying what they buy and may not notice the difference. At this point it's difficult to accept any source as reliable, because apparently the flag makers are not synchronized with the gov-backed source. If editors don't know which flag on Commons is correct, then it makes sense to me to keep them until we find out. And finding out seems to be the rub, eh? P. I. Ellsworth, ed. put'r there 10:24, 12 August 2022 (UTC)
- Keep. After reading all the pertinent discussions about this flag and the one at File:Flag of the Isle of Man.svg, one cannot say for certain which flag, or possibly some other version that centers the triskelion somewhere between this flag version and the other version I linked, is the correct and official flag of the Isle of Man. At this point even the colors are in question (are there four colors, or five?), as well as the spelling of "Man" (is it "Mann"?) Honestly don't know what the correct way to go is in this case, I'm just sure that we don't want to go and delete what might be the correct version. I'd say we need expert help with this issue. P. I. Ellsworth, ed. put'r there 01:40, 7 August 2022 (UTC)
