Hi Xnatedawgx, to make this image you've uploaded more useful it would be kind if you could tell within the description where this was shot. Thanks, AFBorchert (talk) 15:10, 21 December 2008 (UTC)

Tip: Categorizing images
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.BotMultichillT 06:37, 23 February 2009 (UTC)

Re: Oklahoma.JPG
I'm not sure where this photo was taken. I found it on the english wikipedia server and moved it here for my collection since it was better than the version that I had before. If you look at the file history, the old version was taken by me on I-40 between Arkansas and Oklahoma. You would need to contact whoever uploaded it on Wikipedia to find out where exactly the photo was taken. Sorry I couldn't help. But if you're wondering about all the other state sign photos that were authored by me, I can tell you exactly where they were taken. --ErgoSum88 (talk) 15:58, 29 March 2009 (UTC)

Why was this a wrong category?
The rail line to Monte Cristo no longer exists. Why was this a wrong category? - Jmabel ! talk 06:20, 23 July 2009 (UTC)
In the photo you can see the rail line when it existed. Photos for the "former" category should only be of rail lines/tracks that look abandoned/unused in the photo, otherwise its not "former". Thanks Xnatedawgx (talk) 16:00, 25 July 2009 (UTC)
Then how would one classify a rail line that is now defunct? We use the similarly named Category:Former buildings for buildings that no longer exist; obviously, we couldn't have a picture of a building taken after it no longer exists. - Jmabel ! talk 19:55, 25 July 2009 (UTC)
When looking over the Category:Former railway lines, it appears that most are photos of places showing remains of railways from the past. I do see your point about the Category:Former buildings, but perhaps it should be put under Category:Defunct rail transport companies of the United States. Xnatedawgx (talk) 20:10, 25 July 2009 (UTC)

- Then we should create a Category:Health clubs (which would not be a subcategory of Category:Clubs and societies and certainly not of Category:Clubhouses), since commercial ones like Gold's are not "clubs" in any meaningful sense. Something like the Washington Athletic Club] or New York Athletic Club or, more modestly even the Holtville Athletic Club is really a club, but Gold's Gym is just not a club: its members are entirely passive consumers, at most they are like subscribers. - Jmabel ! talk 01:53, 13 October 2009 (UTC)

"Condominium"
Unless I'm mistaken, a "condominium" category should probably not replace an "apartment building" category, but be added to it. An apartment building is a type of building; condominiums are a form of ownership, and can apply to other things than apartment buildings (e.g. it's a possible form of ownership for an office building, a resort property, and even (I believe) a ship. - Jmabel ! talk 07:44, 22 January 2010 (UTC)

Move
I just wanted to let you know that I moved your new category
Category:Metropolitan Life Insurance Towers to
Category:Metropolitan Life Insurance complex because it was too similiar to
Category:Metropolitan Life Insurance Company Tower,
and would probably cause confusion. (Also, the North Building is not a "tower" per se.) I've also slugged the "complex" category with a note that individual images in it should show both buildings, which I assume was your intention. I left yours as a category redirect. Beyond My Ken (talk) 20:42, 5 September 2010 (UTC)
- Regardless of where it came from, the nomenclature is confusing. Check the English Wikipedia article on the Tower which referes to the addition of the complex to the historic registry.

Hi Xnatedawgx,
Thank you for your contributions to Commons. I noticed you blanked Category:Biological Sciences Building on Commons. If you meant for the page to be deleted, blanking the page is not the right way to do this. Please use type reason here and add it on top of the page you would like to have deleted; This way it will be placed on a special list that administrators check regularly for deletion. Without this it might take a long time before it's noticed. For redirects use #REDIRECTTarget or Targetcategoryname. Thanks again.

We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry. If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it. If the category is up for deletion because it has been superseded, consider the notion that although the category may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new category. |

Demolished buildings
This seems like an odd decision. At least two of the A-Y-P buildings survive a century later (the Women's Building, recently moved, and the Arts Building, now the UW Architecture Building). Offhand, I think the rest are gone, but this still places two standing buildings an a "demolished buildings" category. - Jmabel ! talk 22:50, 18 March 2012 (UTC)
The majority of the buildings have been demolished, as stated in the related article. There would be no sense in putting each of them in the category separately. Xnatedawgx (talk) 22:52, 18 March 2012 (UTC)
- No, but you could create a Category:Demolished buildings of the Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Exposition & attach the category to that. Or, probably better, Category:Temporary buildings of the Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Exposition, which would let us distinguish the three buildings that were there for a long time but no longer are. (The temporary buildings all have the same date of destruction; three others besides the survivors do not.) - Jmabel ! talk 23:01, 18 March 2012 (UTC)
Why Category:Lowman Building? The Lowman Building is not the Lowman & Hanford Building. It's next door, I believe. - Jmabel ! talk 22:55, 18 March 2012 (UTC)
My mistake then. Xnatedawgx (talk) 22:57, 18 March 2012 (UTC)
Wait. Maybe my mistake, I think Lowman is the bigger one, on the corner. But I have to rush out of here right now. - Jmabel ! talk 22:58, 18 March 2012 (UTC)
- Yup, my mistake in description. I've now fixed that. Sorry. - Jmabel ! talk 05:07, 19 March 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading File:Southland Life drawing.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the No permission since tag with on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.
Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own). The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded (:File:Southland Life drawing.jpg ) and the above demanded information in your request. |

This media may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading File:NorthstarTahoe1.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

Copyright status: File:Old MGM Reno.jpg
This media may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading File:Old MGM Reno.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

- Note: This image was uploaded to Wikipedia by this user. You only transferred it to Commons. So, you did not commit any copyright violation. You only moved the image from Wikipedia to wikicommons...but the image may not be free as the uploader at Wikipedia has some problems with copyright. - Template:Comm: Hylife, the original Wikipedia uploader did the copyright violation, not you who just transferred the image as my copyvio note here says: According to the wikipedia uploader, the image source is the church web site just like this other image he/she uploaded on wikipedia. The image would likely not be public domain then...since the source website says "Copyright © 2014 St. James Ev. Lutheran Church. All Rights Reserved." --Leoboudv (talk) 09:01, 18 January 2014 (UTC)
Request :)
I was wondering if you could go through the files that I recently uploaded (last month) and added photo location coordinates, they are in the category Category:Interstate 75 in Georgia. I like the way you've added various road sign type categories to other photos and wondered if you'd take a look at the photos and add any categories you think would be appropriate. Thank you. --Mjrmtg (talk) 14:50, 19 January 2014 (UTC)

Re: File:Sheridan Flouring Mills & Mill Inn.JPG
The two files you uploaded (1 2) should have been given different names to distiguish between them. Please make the neccessary changes as the two files should not have the same categories. Allen4names (talk) 16:18, 2 February 2014 (UTC)
Thank you
Thank you for noticing and fixing the files of Mississippi River bridges that I had uploaded (of the North Channel Bridge which were actually of the Main Channel Bridge). The two bridges are close together and it was confusing. Royalbroil 13:27, 10 May 2014 (UTC)
Buildings in Atlanta
Atlanta is both in Fulton and DeKalb counties so we cannot assume all photos in the Buildings in Atlanta category also belong in the Buildings in Fulton County category. --Mjrmtg (int:Talkpagelinktext) 21:54, 26 May 2014 (UTC)
Hennepin Canal lock numbers
Your category and the uploader's filenames on at least a couple Hennepin Canal photos disagree and I think they might both be off. Bridge Name Question
I just took several photos of a bridge and was wondering if you could help me with a name for the bridge. It is located here :Template:Object location and would fit in these categories: Bridges in Madison County, Florida, Bridges in Lowndes County, Georgia, Bridges over rivers in Georgia (U.S. state), Withlacoochee River (Georgia), Railway bridges in Georgia (U.S. state), Abandoned railway bridges in the United States and probably others I'm missing. Thanks for your help in finding a name for the bridge. --Mjrmtg (int:Talkpagelinktext) 21:39, 3 August 2014 (UTC)
