Thank you for participating in Wiki Loves Monuments 2012!Dear William Ellison, Thanks to the participation of people like you, the contest gathered more than 350,000 pictures of cultural heritage objects from 36 countries around the world, becoming the largest photography competition to have ever taken place. You can find all your pictures in your upload log, and are of course very welcome to keep uploading images and help develop Wikimedia Commons, even though you will not be able to win more prizes (just yet). If you'd like to start editing relevant Wikipedia articles and share your knowledge with other people, please go to the Wikipedia Welcome page for more information, guidance, and help. To make future contests even more successful than this year, we would like to invite you to share your experiences with us in a short survey. Please fill in this short survey in your own language, and help us learn what you liked and didn't like about Wiki Loves Monuments 2012. Kind regards, |

Copyright violations
[edit]
Hello William Ellison.
You have uploaded one or more files that are copyright violations. You have done so despite requests from editors not to do so, and despite their instructions. See Commons:Licensing for the copyright policy on Wikimedia Commons. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules by subject matter useful. This is your last warning. The next time you upload a file that violates copyright, you will be blocked. Please leave me a message if you have further questions. |

Modillons (corbels)
[edit]Bonjour.
Amicalement --Havang(nl) (talk) 07:33, 30 July 2015 (UTC)
Category:Absidiole Sud de l'eglise Saint-Sauveur de Saint-Macaire
[edit]If the problem with this category is that the files in it are misnamed then individual deletion requests should be made, however if this is the only problem and you intend to upload the files again with correct names. then asking for them to be renamed is probably the best option.--∼∼∼∼
Copyright status: File:Asques (Gironde) Limite communale.jpg
[edit]This media may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading File:Asques (Gironde) Limite communale.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.
If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.) If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there. Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you. |
- Hi JuTa, The problem was spelling mistake in the licence template. It has now been corrected and the correct licence is visible.William Ellison (talk) 10:27, 29 May 2016 (UTC)

Ancalagon (talk) 05:13, 29 October 2016 (UTC)

Pyb (talk) 20:20, 4 September 2017 (UTC)

Cordialement--Tyerabla (talk) 18:34, 24 November 2018 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading File:Jacques Chaban-Delmas et Antoine Priore le 21 novembre 1972.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.
Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own). The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded ([[:File:Jacques Chaban-Delmas et Antoine Priore le 21 novembre 1972.jpg]] ) and the above demanded information in your request. |

Wiki Loves Monuments France 2019
[edit]Bonjour,
--Trouverunpseudoesttropdifficlesurcesite (talk) 15:24, 13 September 2019 (UTC)

Émile-Alexandre_Taskin photo Felix Potin
[edit]Hello,
I found the original photo of Taskin that figured on the postcard used by Felix Potin shops. It was a photo taken by Nadar that I uploaded in a better quality to replace the former one.
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:CFP_Taskin.jpg
I haven't changed the name without exchanging with you. What about changing the name of the photo in TaskinNadar.jpg?
Best regards,
Noyeux (talk) 19:35, 24 February 2020 (UTC)
- Good morning Noyeux, Thank you for the information concerning the origin of the photograph of Taskin which was used in "La Collection Félix Potin". Unfortunately you replaced the image of a card from the Félix Potin Collection (see https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Collection_Félix_Potin for a couple of thousand other cards in the collection) by the Nadar photograph which was used to make the card. The two images are distinct and should be kept distinct. I will revert https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:CFP_Taskin.jpg back to the oringinal image and téléverse the Nadar photo, with the name
- into the https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Nadar - Émile-Alexandre Taskin (1893) where it has its place.
- En ce qui concerne downloads from Gallica : If you simply use the method proposed by Gallica you get the relatively low resolution image (174 ko). However, there exists a plug-in for Firefox and Chrome which allows you to download with the MAXIMUM resolution.
- For the Taskin photo the image I downloaded is 2.1 Mo.
- You can find the plug-in here : http://www.geobib.fr/tool/iiif/ (you can upload images in JPG or TIFF formats). You might find it useful for other photos by Nadar in Gallica. Best regards William Ellison (talk) 04:14, 25 February 2020 (UTC)
- Hello William Ellison. Sorry for having changed the image from the Félix Potin collection : I didn't think it could be important for you. Félix Potin was a French businessman who creates shops in France so it will probably never be the photograph of this collection. The last shops closed in 1996. Thanks for the plug-in that I din't know for the quality of the photos. I just download it and I will use it for my next downloads. All the best. Noyeux (talk) 04:58, 25 February 2020 (UTC)
[edit]Gentile William Ellison,
Grazie ancora e a presto,

Postcard of Lormont

- Thanks for your work and all uploaded postcards. Can you help to translate the first section of Commons:WikiProject Postcards in French? Like I do it for German. The project is realy new. And I wait for more participants. It would nice if we have a french welcome page under Commons:WikiProject_Postcards/fr. If you have some question, you can ask me. Best regards -- sk (talk) 10:00, 30 March 2020 (UTC)
- Hi Stefan, Ok for the translation, I will do it tomorrow. I had a quick look at the Cateory:Postcards. There's a lot of cleaning up to do ! I will help a bit, but my major interest in Wikipedia is to contribute to writing articles. As far as postcards are concerned, they are very useful to illustrate articles on sujects dated around 1900. For example the page w:fr:Crime de Langon is illustrated entirely with postcards. Whenever I am looking for postcards to illustrate a page I usually look at the web-site Delcampe, they are about 60 million postcards visible. If I found what I want, I then download the image, put it into shape with a simple image treatment programme and the load it to Commons. The resolution is not high (usually about 400 ko, but is sufficient for an image in an article. Best regars William Ellison (talk) 16:01, 30 March 2020 (UTC)
- Hi Stefan, I have translated the first paragraph into french. I think it would be a good idea if the introductory paragraph, in the three languages, are all on the project page. It avoids jumping back and forth between pages, which could be a discouragement for many. I have added my name to the list of participants, but I want to make it clear that I am not very interested in carrying out organisational tasks, except to correct my own stupidities ! However I will follow all the recommendations when I add new postcards to the collection. To give the project some publicité I will post a message on the list of wikinautes around Bordeaux and on the list of members of Wikimédia-France. It might bring in some participants. Best wishes William Ellison (talk) 07:43, 31 March 2020 (UTC)
- Hello William, thanks for your translation. As participant you have no responsibilities. It shows only that you are interested in this project. It is all free. Some week I do for the project many things and in another week I have no time. This project try to join people whit interests in postcards. - When I look at your uploaded postcards I found often the signature M.D. or LL. or AH. Last week I learned that M.D. are the signature of Marcel Delboy. LL stands for Léon & Lévy. If you see postcards with this signatures, please set also the category for this publisher. I don't know yet the name of AH (. You collect all signatures here: Logos_of_postcard_publishers#Signaturs. - If you have postcards of animals like File:Lugos - carte publicitaire.jpg set Category:Postcards of pigs or in this postcard File:Bordeaux - Maison Purrey.jpg you can set Category:Postcards of transport. Thanks for all your fine work. -- sk (talk) 08:25, 31 March 2020 (UTC)
Hi Stefan, I am interested in using Pattypan to upload lots of postcards. I have tried som experimental test, which work fine, but I have a couple of questions :
- How do I indicate that the file is to be in several categories (For example : Category:Postcards of Lormont and Categoru:Postcards published by Marcel Delboy ?
- Can I use wikicode such as {{Creator:Marcel Delboy}} for the author ?
Once I get to understand how to use Pattypan I couls write « How to use the programme for idiots » text. Best wishes William Ellison (talk) 15:59, 1 April 2020 (UTC)
- Hello William,
- two or more categories must separated by an semicolon and you need no word "Category:". For Example: "Postcards of Lormont;Postcards published by Marcel Delboy".
- Yes this work. I do this with Pattypan for all postcards in Category:Postcards by Erwin Spindler.
- If you send me an email, then I can send you my table-file of Erwin Spindler. -- sk (talk) 18:24, 1 April 2020 (UTC)
Léon & Lévy
[edit]For nearly all LL postcards, the pictures are taken by unknown local photografers, unless signed. As a general rule I only consider that the publisher and author are the same, for postcards of small local publishers who publish their own work. Travelling extensively to take local pictures at that time was expensive and time consuming, and left little time for the the publishing and running a business. So I reversed your modification for File:Arcachon postcard.jpgSmiley.toerist (talk) 09:33, 4 April 2020 (UTC)
- By the way I use the the broader PD-France license instead of the frequently used EU-Anonymous template for old French postcards.Smiley.toerist (talk) 09:33, 4 April 2020 (UTC)
- Hi Smiley.toerist, thanks for the information. I did have some doubts. William Ellison (talk) 09:38, 4 April 2020 (UTC)
- Why the reversal without explanation?Smiley.toerist (talk) 10:08, 13 April 2020 (UTC)
- Hi Smiley.toerist, very sorry, I must have spent to much time correcting others errors and I got very tired ! William Ellison (talk) 10:30, 13 April 2020 (UTC)
- We are human and make mistakes. Wikimedia work tends to all absorbing and sometimes a break is needed. The world will keep turning whatever we do. I did a Google search on 'Camaïeu' postcards. (from File:Bordeaux tram 1905.jpg). It gets confusing as it is also a printing techniek and a clothing shop. search: 'Camaïeu cartes postales' FR Wikipedia However there are also postcards of Angers and Lyon, so I suspect the postcard editor is not local. I dont see many Camaïeu postcards so I suspect it is a small publisher. Not a big name such a Levy or Nels, but needing a nummering system for ordering. So I am hesitating if it is unknown author or not.Smiley.toerist (talk) 12:03, 14 April 2020 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading File:Vignonet - Mairie et écoles.jpg.
Thank you. |

File(s) appeared in Category:Language templates with no text displayed
[edit]Hello William Ellison, it seems that your latest changes or uploads of the file(s) Ychoux - Gare 1.jpg broke a template. This assumption has been made because the file(s) appeared in the maintenance Category:Language templates with no text displayed. To fix this issue please check this category for further information. If the file(s) is/are not contained in the maintenance category anymore someone else already did the work and you can ignore this message. Thank you for your cooperation. --ArndBot (talk) 17:54, 1 October 2020 (UTC)

We need your feedback!
[edit]Hello. Apologies if this message is not in your native language: please feel free to respond in the language of your choice. Thank you!
I am writing to you because we are looking for feedback for a new Wikimedia Foundation project, Structured Data Across Wikimedia (SDAW). SDAW is a grant-funded programme that will explore ways to structure content on wikitext pages in a way that will be machine-recognizable and -relatable, in order to make reading, editing, and searching easier and more accessible across projects and on the Internet. We are now focusing on designing and building image suggestion features for experienced users.
We have some questions to ask you about your experience with uploading images here on Wikimedia Commons and then adding them to Wikipedia. You can answer these questions on a specific feedback page on Mediawiki, where we will gather feedback. As I said, these questions are in English, but your answers do not need to be in English! You can also answer in your own language, if you feel more comfortable.
Once the collecting of feedback will be over, we will sum it up and share with you a summary, along with updated mocks that will incorporate your inputs.
Also, if you want to keep in touch with us or you want to know more about the project, you can subscribe to our newsletter.
Hope to hear from you soon! -- Sannita (WMF) (talk to me!) 09:56, 2 August 2021 (UTC)
File:Saint-Avit-Saint-Nazaire - bourg 3.jpg
[edit]Hello,
I think your file File:Saint-Avit-Saint-Nazaire - bourg 3.jpg is misnamed. You probably meant "Captieux - Place principale 3" because it's the same postcard as File:Captieux - Place principale 2.jpg with the addition of a big red postage stamp. I don't know what's happened to Saint-Avit.
Philh-591 (talk) 17:42, 21 August 2021 (UTC)
ː Hello Philh-591, you are quite correct ǃ I don't know what happened , probably a copy/cpaste error with pattypan. I will ask for the file to be deleted, Thanks William Ellison
I thought rename ("Captieux - Place principale 3") rather than delete. Even though it's the same postcard as Place principale 2, some people find postcards with stamps on them interesting. But whichever you wish. Philh-591 (talk) 20:18, 23 August 2021 (UTC)
