Notification about possible deletion

[edit]
Some contents have been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether they should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at their entry.

If you created these pages, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with them, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Public Domain Day 2025

[edit]

Thanks for uploading lots of works! I noticed you're even uploading some of the stuff I put on Internet Archive :)

If you could please add Category:Media uploaded for Public Domain Day 2025 to your uploads that would be greatly appreciated!

Best, SDudley (talk) 01:06, 1 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

My bad, I actually meant to avoid IA uploads from Wikimedia contributors but I missed Hollywood Revue. I'll be sure to go through my uploads and add them to the category, probably later tonight. Thanks for the tip! hinnk (talk) 02:42, 1 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for uploading the stuff from IA. I really don't mind.
Thanks for adding the category.
Happy Public Domain Day!! SDudley (talk) 14:47, 1 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Help

[edit]

Hi Mr. Hinnk, and thank you for your uploads. I'm having an interest in Mack Sennet and Hal Roach comedies, and you seem to share me the interest in the latter, so I ask you to upload the 1928 Hal Roach videos, and to cooperate with me in uploading some other videos. I'm neither capable nor expert in uploading videos like photos! Maher27777 (talk) 10:17, 4 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I think I have some from 1927–1928, but I'd need to check to see which ones and if they've already been uploaded. The video2commons tool can be useful for converting videos to WebM, but it's not great for files that need to be cropped or trimmed. hinnk (talk) 21:32, 4 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

The Bishop Murder Case

[edit]

Do you have this one, to complete our Philo Vance collection? SnowyCinema (talk) 01:59, 6 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately no, the other one is The Benson Murder Case, which remains under copyright until 2026. I can put together an SD upload of The Bishop Murder Case from an online copy, but it'll be lower-quality than the other two. hinnk (talk) 03:43, 7 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@SnowyCinema It's at File:The Bishop Murder Case (1929).webm. hinnk (talk) 01:09, 11 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Importing file from la Cinémathèque

[edit]

Just learned about Le Cinéma du Peuple and i'm interested in uploading the video file for Les Misères de l'aiguille, a 1914 silent film by Raphaël Clamour (1885-1943). The file is available to watch at the Cinémathèque française website, which uses a Vimeo interface set to private (which doesn't allow me to download).

I turn to you because you have previously uploaded File:The Half-Breed (1916).webm and Jean Epstein's The Fall of the House of Usher directly from the Cinémathèque .--Mayimbú (talk) 19:53, 21 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Sure, I'll see if I can prepare an upload of it. Am I correct in interpreting the description to mean that everything after the cut at 14:13 is from a separate work? hinnk (talk) 00:24, 25 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Mayimbú It's available at File:Les Misères de l'aiguille (1914) excerpt.webm. hinnk (talk) 10:18, 26 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
It's from a separate work, but it remains unidentified (an orphan film). Dunno if it counts as public domain due to a lack of release date. --Mayimbú (talk) 18:23, 28 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

List of films

[edit]

You seem to be quite the collector of DVDs of old films! And you have this method of mass-conversion and uploading to Commons down to a science, too. So, I was wondering if there was any possibility that you could produce a list of all the films you're planning to upload for next year, being 1930, at some user subpage (like User:Hinnk/1930 for example)? That would be very helpful info for me to know (and possibly others), since as part of my work at Wikisource, I'm planning on doing several transcriptions of 1930 films ahead of time privately. I'll be wanting to release them on January 1, 2026, immediately with an automated system, and All Quiet on the Western Front is at the top of my "prep" list right now. So it would be great to know when the HD uploads are coming in, and who's uploading them. SnowyCinema (talk) 01:45, 27 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
