Image Tagging Image:1880RNC.PNG
[edit]
Thanks for uploading Image:1880RNC.PNG. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. If the content is a derivative of a copyrighted work, you need to supply the names and a licence of the original authors as well.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{self|cc-by-sa-3.0}} to release it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license or {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Thank you. - Added licensing. Strange...the tag has been there the whole time, but it wasn't showing up in the information template. Nishkid64 (talk) 05:33, 7 October 2007 (UTC)
I don´t understand these many rules, so I gave up being an editor at wikipedia. I have no idea what a tag is, or what fair use means. Go ahead and delete anything you want, I don´t care anymore. --201.51.72.194 13:58, 14 October 2007 (UTC)
an apology is due
[edit]When you asked me about Pioneer 7 the timing was really not so good. For me, my sleep has been all off and perhaps too much coffee consumed at unusual times. Add to that me becoming an upload machine instead of figuring out a template or looking at one of the upload bots (I really like to look at the images though....) Your question on my talk page appeared right after I had made a few typos and I thought that I was being patrolled and losing access. I was wrong. I made a few typos....
On that day, I woke up with my guilty conscience and without the understanding of the typo (a ":" instead of a "|"), wrote my reply to you, checked your user page after the reply, discovered an admin, made some wrong guesses about hidden messages from administrators, became very angry, controlled this wrongly applied anger and proceeded since that day until now when I looked again at those uploads.
I even figured out how to hack around where I perceived my vulnerability!
Caffeine it gives and it takes (and it also defies the i before e rule). So sorry. -- carol 14:02, 20 October 2007 (UTC)

Congratulations, Dear Administrator!
[edit]
Nishkid64/Archive1, congratulations! You now have the rights of administrator on Commons. Please take a moment to read the Commons:Administrators page and watchlist related pages (in particular Commons:Administrators' noticeboard and Commons:Deletion requests), before launching yourself into page deletions, page protections, account blockings or modifications of protected pages. The majority of the actions of administrators can be reversed by the other admins, except for history merges which must thus be treated with particular care.
Please feel free to join us on IRC: #wikimedia-commons @ irc.freenode.net. You may find Commons:Guide to adminship to be useful reading.
Please also check or add your entry to Commons:List_of_administrators and the related lists by language and date it references...

Image deletion warning | Image:Iphone001.JPG has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry. If you created this image, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. If the file is up for deletion because it has been superseded by a superior derivative of your work, consider the notion that although the file may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new file. |

Your speedy delete
[edit]You deleted this when [1] clearly says that there are significant Maori groups in Australia. 222.153.9.50 22:25, 29 November 2007 (UTC)
- You reverted your speedy delete - but I'm a bit dubious about its worth where it is in the structure right now. I agree that as of now there are limited (maybe even no) "Maori in Australia" files on Commons. But there COULD be, and I am of the opinion that providing the correct structure beforehand is a good thing (I'm not talking of creating empty cats - "Maori in Australia" would be empty as of now). So that is why I changed Maori to be a top cat ABOVE countries, and then moved all current Maori images into a subcat "Maori in New Zealand" that I created. As someone else also reverted part of these actions in addition to your revert, all we have now is an empty subcat "Maori in New Zealand" within a Maori subcat that already is in NZ.
- All said and done, I think lets keep it ("Maori in New Zealand") deleted. Changing the Category:Maori people into Category:Maori people from New Zealand would ensure most of the same thing I'd want to achieve. See my comments on that (first) cats talk page. 222.153.9.50 01:02, 30 November 2007 (UTC)
That RfA
[edit]I would reply over on the RfA, but for some baffling reason, it was protected almost the instant it was withdrawn, so without the bit, I'm left with no ability to respond, but I can confirm I did point Giggy to my image related edits on Wikipedia and was still told I didn't know what I was talking about. I linked in my contributions and deleted contributions to the work I've done on Wikipedia, but again, that still wasn't good enough. I did finally get Giggy to at least admit I did know what I was talking about and he did strike one part of his comment, so that was a bit of a bonus, but I'm still seriously unhappy with his comment, as I'm sure most people would be when someone calls into question your knowledge and abilities. Nick 22:02, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
- Just so you know, I reverted your last comment as it was made after the withdrawl/protection of the RfA. Feel free to revert me if this is a major issue. Cheers, — Giggy 08:00, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

deletion of MIWULA_Dänemark.JPG
[edit]Hi, why did you delete that picture? The discussion page you are referring to does not give any applicable reason. The picture showed a model railroad layout, not a sculpture! In addition, the guys running that layout (www.miwula.de) explicitely allow publishing pictures. So maybe you consider contacting the image fotografers before deleting? -- DrTom 12:24, 26 December 2007 (UTC)
- Ok, once again: Their website said at the time of uploading, that images may be published. I didn't foresee any problem, so unfortunately I didn't save a copy of that page; currently, I can't find such a page on their site which has been modified a lot since then; but it still says that photographing is allowed. I will ask them by e-mail for an explicit permission. If they deny, your deletion is of course justified subsequently.
- The real problem is another one: You deleted the image without any warning in advance. Even if I don't supply any copyright information at all, there is a warning before the image is deleted, and I can supply that information within 2 weeks (I guess). As a result, the articles using the pictures (others have been deleted as well) have already replaced them. I won't kick out other pictures to restore mine, so in fact I don't mind if you restore them or not. But there are a lot of other images that can't be replaced so easily.
- For the future, I ask you not to delete pictures any more referencing "Mme Tussaud's" without warning. Please inform the uploaders in advance and give them one or two weeks to clear the copyright situation and provide additional permissions you consider necessary. Thank you. -- DrTom 11:00, 27 December 2007 (UTC)
- There is a legal statement one their homepage ([2]) that states, that you may not only publish any photos you made in the Miniwunderland as long as you state where it was made. Furthermore it is explicitly desired to do so. For your interest: Frederik Braun is one of the founders and CEO of Miniwunderland. What else do you, Nishkid64, need? So please, restore the photos. --Jpp 12:24, 27 December 2007 (UTC)
- Nishkid64 have now restored the pictures except for mine Image:Miniatur Wunderland - Egeskov.JPG. But it seems that we need a generel discussion about pictures of models on Commons:Village pump as well on the nationals Wikipedias to get clear what is up and down in the rules. What Miniatur Wunderland contern I am in contact with them. --Dannebrog Spy 22:18, 27 December 2007 (UTC)
- Edit: Image:Miniatur Wunderland - Egeskov.JPG is back now. --Dannebrog Spy 11:08, 28 December 2007 (UTC)

- I've got an e-mail from Miniatur Wunderland with the permission and they answered the discussion directly here (unfortunately German only).
- But the next question is, what is a sculpture (or work of art) and what is not? Especially in modern art, everyday items are used as art objects. So if I upload a picture of a piece of butter, will you delete it? It might be a sculpture from en:Joseph Beuys, who used fat for a number of sculptures. The case of Mme Tussaud's sculptures is quite easy to decide - but where does art end? Is my model railroad at home also a sculpture? Or an individual car on that layout? The arrangement (aka chaos) on my desk? We surely need a discussion on that (instead of deletions without warning). -- DrTom 22:48, 27 December 2007 (UTC)
Curious revert
[edit]Hey, just out of curiosity, why'd you revert this edit : [3] - it worked just as well, since the "new messages" bar still reminded me to deal with the image - just seems a bit bizarre. Cheers, WilyD 14:35, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

Personal Rights Infringment
[edit]Hey,
This is user:nikkul. This is regarding Image:Beggar Bodhgaya India.jpg which is an exploitation of this man's poverty and disability by exaggerating his helplessness at the time of begging. There has been considerable debate and a clear majority has voted to not have this image on the Poverty in India page. [4]. I think this image should be deleted as per Photographs_of_identifiable_people personality rights issues.
Not all legally-obtained photographs of individuals are acceptable to Commons even if they otherwise fall within the project's scope. The following types of image are normally considered by the community to be unacceptable:
- Those that unfairly demean or ridicule the subject
- Those that are unfairly obtained
- Those that unreasonably intrude into the subject's private or family life
These are categories which are matters of common decency rather than law. They find a reflection in the wording of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Article 12: (No one shall be subjected to arbitrary interference with his privacy, family, home or correspondence, nor to attacks upon his honour and reputation).

Better idea
[edit]As for Commons:Administrators' noticeboard/Blocks & protections: better than protecting it, perhaps it would be best to block 72.76.14.25/16. I have looked at the range contributions, and it has been used for a long time to troll the same user, and used almost exclusively by this user. Perhaps a ACB/AO block would be best. We have dealt with this user for a while, and the harassment is ongoing. Patstuart (talk) 19:30, 16 April 2008 (UTC)
- I'm no expert on IP ranges etc, but even so I'm not sure protecting that page is such a good idea. The trolling is annoying, but it doesn't take to much effort to revert that nonsense every now and then. I feel it's more urgent that this page is avvailable for unregistred users. Regards, Finn Rindahl 19:42, 16 April 2008 (UTC)
I was considering a range block, but to be honest, I don't have any prior experience with conducting these sort of blocks. I just did some reading, and it looks 65,536 IP addresses would be taken care of in the range block. I guess blocking this IP range for a week or so would do less harm that protecting the Commons page for 2 days from all IPs. You also mentioned that this IP had a history of trolling? Could you link me to some relevant pages? I just want to check it out before I do the rangeblock. Nishkid64 (talk) 19:42, 16 April 2008 (UTC)
- Well, you will need to add the contributions range calculator available in preferences...gadgets...Tools for admins and special users. At that point, you can access Special:Contributions/72.76.14.25/16. See also User_talk:Herbythyme/Arc4#Three-revert_rule_and_David_Shankbone. Patstuart (talk) 19:45, 16 April 2008 (UTC)
- I also have a "Worst Hits" guide to the person's behavior here on Wikipedia. I also keep track of the various community discussions here. It is worthwhile to note that although I am the main focus of this IP's obsession, they have also attacked at least five or six other editors, and their stalking has been on the English, Spanish, French, German, Dutch and Italian Wikipedias, Commons and Wikinews. --DavidShankbone 20:42, 16 April 2008 (UTC)
- Shankbone, kindly explain why this link you've provided does not work: [6].
